Interview 41

Where are you from?

The lovely rainy UK

How old are you?

I'm 14

What and who inspired you into reading and/or writing?

I've always Been a big reader, but it was actually my English teacher who inspired me or kind of pushed me to actually write for fun.

What was the first book that you read that started your love for reading?

I actually couldn't tell you, because I've read so many books that my mind is scattered, but my favorite book currently Is 'Six of Crows' by Leigh Bardugo.

What was the turning point in your life that you decided to take your writing seriously?

So I had been writing for a long time, but it was when I published my first book on wattpad that I realized I really enjoyed it and decided to take it more seriously.

What is the inspiration for your stories?

So, I have a range of stories, so it tends to be completely random. One of my books came from a dream, one is from my friend's awful relationship situation, one was born because I got a bit worried about the state of the earth and the other was written bc my friend asked me to write a story about her.

Do you outline your stories or write whatever comes to mind?

Recently I have begun to outline my stories, but I still tend to run away with my ideas.

What is your method of beginning to writing a book?

So I tend to come up with random ideas in my mind, and it's the ones that I can't shake that end up in a book. I write it on paper first and edit it before I put it onto Wattpad. Everything on my page is like third or fourth drafts.

Do you ever get attached to the characters in your story? If so, what part of their personality or quirks do you find relatable?

I am madly in love with all my main male characters, and so I think they've ended up being quite similar. My favorite character is definitely Lacey from "surviving you' because she is literally me, in all ways. She's the one character who stays consistent throughout the whole story.

Do you base your characters on people in your personal life, imagination, or both?

It is usually a bit of both, obviously my favorite character, Lacey is based on me, but all the friends and Male characters tend to be figments of my imagination.

What is the best part of writing a story?

Finishing it, and reading back, and just realizing that you've accomplished a finished book, and you've put it out to the world.

How do you deal with writer's block?

I have a nap, or I just keep writing through it. I tend to write a lot of dialogue, so I don't struggle with writers' block very often. I'm a very hyper person and I have like a million thoughts going through my head at once, so I always have something to write, I guess.

Would you want to see your story or stories be adapted? If so, who would you want to play your characters?

Yes, yes, yes, a million times she's. The story I most want to be adapted to is the one with my favorite character and I would either want to play Lacey or have Marsai Martin playing her. The male character Leo doesn't have an equal in real life, and I'm still trying to find him. But I will, I swear.

What kind of advice would you give to an aspiring writer?

Don't worry about what people might think of your stories. You should just pour your heart into it, and someone out there will appreciate it, and you will get the recognition you deserve. It just takes time and you have to be patient.

Are you working on a new story?

Always! I'm trying to keep this one a secret for the time being, but I know people are going to like it! It's about breaking the cliches, cliques, and stereotypes you find in schools. And maybe, just maybe it won't end up being a romance book!
