Draco Malfoy

It's the summer just after Draco's first year. Draco and Luna have just turned 9 and 12. Lucius was angry that Hermione had better grades than Draco. His loud voice boomed throughout Malfoy Manor as he yelled at his son for not being good enough. The yelling continues on for hours. A 9 year old Luna is hiding under her bed. Tears are flowing down her cheeks as she hears her fathers rage. She worries about her brother but knows she cant do anything. So she waits. And waits. And waits. She waits until the yelling and screaming stops, she waits for the tears to stop, Malfoys don't cry. Draco is strong, he doesn't cry. She's never seen her brother cry, not even when he was injured. Luna knew that her father would have tea with his food that night. The screaming had been intense and scary. She climbs out from under her bed and shivers. The air is cold. The soft carpet feels nice on the bottoms of her feet. The walls in her room are green and the carpet is white. Her bedspread is green, black, and silver. Draco says that their father has been shoving Slytherin down their throats since they were born but she doesn't think that's true. He had to have been nice at some point, right? She didn't believe herself. While she was wandering around the room that was about as big as an apartment in New York City, she heard footsteps. She silently crept over to the door and opened it slightly. She saw draco going towards his room and lucius wasn't around, so she quickly grabbed her soft blanket and went to Draco's room. She knocked softly and called out, "Drake?" She bit her lip as she heard shuffling in the room. Worry ran through her mind as the shuffling stopped but the door didn't open. Maybe he was in trouble, yeah, that's it. "Is daddy mad at you?" She hadn't meant to ask him that. The shuffling started again and after a few moments her older brother opened his bedroom door. He immediately pulled her into the room and hugged her. She wrapped her small arms around his waist. They didn't hug very often. "Father's angry." "I know." His voice was strained, likely from all the yelling. Luna was sad and angry. This felt awfully similar to Christmas. This past year, they hosted their annual Christmas Ball and all of the others came. Some they liked more than others, but they still appreciated having more people in the house. Except, Draco and Lucius had gotten into a big fight that morning and Luna had to once again hide under her bed. She pretends not to notice Draco's wincing, she pretends everything is all right and they have a happy and normal family. She pretends that their father doesn't have an ugly tattoo on his left arm, she pretends that everything is happy and normal, at least, she tries to. But she can't ignore the obvious. "Do you want me to get mummy to heal you?" Draco doesn't say anything for a while, so she unwraps her arms. Draco moves over to his bed. "I can-" "no it's fine Luna" she sighs and goes over to his bed. "You can sit" she nods and sits, playing with her big brothers hair. "Mummy'll make it feel better" that's a lie. They both know it is. Her father uses magic. You can't heal magical injuries. "We can go see Severus? I'm sure he has potions that could help" but Draco only shook his head. Luna frowned but respected his wishes. She climbed in the bed and cuddled into her brother. "Do you need anything?" "Just this" Luna smiled at her older brother and laid her head on his chest. "Love you LuLu" he muttered, half asleep. Luna smiled wider and returned the words, drifting into her own peaceful sleep. She knew they would be okay. It just might be more of an uphill battle than most. But they'll make it.
