"This is boring."

Daehyun sighs as his assigned partner continues to talk, completely ignoring his request of staying quiet while they suffer through their night watch shift.

"And it's boring listening to you talk about nothing. So shut up and do your job."

The beta, Claude, huffed but stayed silent.

But Daehyun swears he could hear something muttered under his breathe, but for the sake of both of them, he acted as if he heard nothing.

The rest of the night goes by smoothly, until something catches the alpha's eye. Something in the bushes, flashing. It's gone so fast that he can barley catch it, but he knows what it means.

"Hey Claude, do me a solid and go get more bullets? I forgot to get a new clip before my shift started."

"Are you shitting me? We've been out here for hours and you just now checked? Fine, I'll be back in a second."

Daehyun makes sure the beta is clear out of sight before he ascends down the stairs of his station, leaving his post and opening the front gates to bolt out into the night. Zander would kill him if he knew he left his post without someone else on guard, but he has to do this. Daehyun walls behind the crowd of bushes he saw the flash from, and he stops dead in his tracks.

"Mingi! What the hell are you doing back? Are you trying to get killed?!"

Mingi, the same alpha who defected from the pack with one of their most high ranking omegas, is standing right before him. "Yeah Yeah I know, but I need a favor. And you owe me."

"What favor is so important that you came here, in the middle of the night, needing to see me? And we have to hurry, if my partner sees you he will tell on you and me both, and unless you feel like taking me on, I'd hurry this along."

His old friend chuckles, but starts his story. "After me and Yeosang left, we started to form a pack, and right now two of my pack members are missing, and one is pregnant. They were kidnapped of sorts, and I need manpower to get them back."

"Hold on there, who kidnapped them and why do you need manpower? Who you the hell are you going up against?"

Mingi gets a pained look in his eyes, a look of fear, and Daehyun knows that look too well. It's the same look he had the night he escaped with Yeosang, knowing that the both of her were now wanted for dead.

"One of my pack members is the Crown Prince of Blue Star. And his mate, the one who's pregnant, is the other that they took. They think he took the prince against his will, but it's far from true. We can't wait too long or he and the baby will be put to death. I know you have a lot of questions and trust me, I'll be happy to answer, but I need your help and fast."

Daehyun can't even believe his ears. Blue Star? The heir ran away with a fellow omega and now they're on death row? Mingi's right, he has thousands of questions, but right now they don't have time for answers.

"Even if me and some of the alphas here agree, we'd be outright saying 'fuck you' to Zander, how do you expect us to come back from that? We all can't up and leave like you did."

"That's the thing, If we can take down Blue Star, we can come back here and strip Zander of his power. We can get rid of the ways of the pack and finally have a town you can be proud to live in. Plus, you and Jaimin can finally be together. If we get rid of Zander, there will be no more rules."

Daehyun closes his eyes, and for the few seconds he doesn't see darkness, but his love. His one day mate. His fellow alpha, who he loves so dearly but could never be with. Everytime they share a night together, full of loved filled words and sweet touches, the next morning the both of them must act as if they don't even know each other. He hates it, and if there's a chance he could finally hold his beloved's hand in public without the consequence of death, he'll take it.

"Alright. I'll gather the others, and meet you wherever you tell us. I need to do this, not just for me and Jaimin, but everyone."

Mingi grins, and as the two of them grip eachother's arm in agreement, Daehyun can feel something. A new era for his pack, if they can pull this off.

"I hope you're right Mingi, Blue Star isn't a small pack. They're an entire kingdom, and if we fuck up we're all dead."

"We won't fail, we can't." The look of pure determination in Mingi's eyes sends a chill down Daehyun's spine, and he can't help but believe him. He doesn't have a choice.

"I have to go back, but where should we meet you? We'll leave tomorrow night, since I need time to tell everyone and make sure no one else finds out. We are betraying Zander after all."

"About ten miles west of here, there's a small grove of trees. I'll leave a hint to find my territory there, just follow it and you'll find us."

Daehyun nods, and with a final hug from his old best friend, he hurries back to his post. Just as he sits back in his chair, Claude returns.

"Hey- I got your bullets asshole. Here."

Daehyun nods as a thank you, and puts the new clip in, just to keep up with the excuse that he needed bullets, since he never starts a shift without making sure his clip is full.

As his shift drags on nothing much happens, just a few deers and a coyote, but he only has one thing on his mind. Jaimin. They can finally find a house together, live out the rest of their days in peace and quiet together, just like he always wanted.

But he can't let his mind daydream too much, because there's the high chance that everything will fail, and they'll all die. But it's a risk he's going to take, no matter what.
