LIAM'S POV

I knocked on the door but entered without waiting for an answer. The Alphas were seated close and seem to be in deep discussion with both enforcers.

Alpha Stevens spoke first "Liam, what brings you here?".

"I know we have a lot to deal with now but I need to know if there's any news on Aurora's search?" I asked frantically.

Maxwell rolled his eyes and Alpha Miguel sighed heavily, "you know we're doing all we can and my daughter was also taken".

"With all due respect Alpha, it doesn't seem like anything is being done. I know your daughter was taken but Aurora is my mate and she could be hurt for crying out loud"

Stevens nodded "I understand but we just have to be patient and..."

"Patient" I growled cutting him off. "She's my mate, do you know how much it hurts my wolf to not hear anything, not even a peep from her. It's killing me".

"And she's also my daughter, but you don't see me throwing a tantrum" enforcer Micheal snorted.

I growled loudly and he looked down scared.

Xavier growled. He better keep his stupid face down or I'll smash it.

Turning to the alphas I plead. "I need you to consider this, if it was your mate that was taken. I just want in on her search"

Maxwell scoffed "and what makes you think you can be of any help to the search. Last I checked you were gone for a week and didn't get any positive response. What's gonna change now?".

Do you think if we kill him, it's gonna ruin our plan.

Yes. So let's just stick to ignoring him.

Xavier growled in anger but kept still.

Placing a defeated look on my face I slowly sank in a chair, letting out a frustrated groan.

"I just want to cover more grounds, I feel like there's something missing. I'll be out of the others way, I just need your permission to search for her".

Alpha Miguel shrugged, "I don't see any need why you can't then. You're free to join them."

A smile appeared on my face instantly and I let out a breath of relief, I stood up immediately, "thank you Alpha."

I turned to leave but enforcer Micheal spoke, "remember Liam, she's not yours, she belongs to Rex. I would never have my daughter mate you".

Fighting a smirk I turned to him, "how about we wait and pray for her to come back. When she does it's gonna be up to her to choose".

Walking out of the office I headed to the training ground. But I got intercepted by Rex.

That's seems to be he's routine now. Xavier snorted.

And surprisingly he had just Theo and Luke with him. Which means Mark had fooled him good.

I cocked my head waiting for him to make one wrong move so he could go back to his room in the hospital.

"Well, why aren't you bowing?" Rex glared.

I folded my arms confused "now why should I do such degrading thing?".

"Because I'm an Alpha" he hisses out.

"Young alpha and last time I checked, it doesn't make you any stronger than me. You just got an all clear from your physiotherapist and you think you're stronger."

He growled not liking my reminder but I just stared at him bored. Theo and Luke flanked his sides growling too.

"Do you think anyone would notice his absence when he's in the hospital?" Luke asked growing.

I chuckled, "the three of you just got out of a special room in the hospital and you're all itching to head back?"

Theo stepped forward but footsteps stopped him midway.

"What's going on?" Mark interrupted as he got I closer to us.

Rex stood straighter, "nothing just  Liam deciding to be a prick today."

Mark looked at me but I shrugged as if saying I was innocent. "Come on Rex, don't engage Liam, you just got an all clear from you doctor. I'm not sure your dad would like you fighting and ending back in the hospital".

Rex turned to Mark so fast I'm surprised his neck is still intact.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Mark shrugged, "you're not strong enough to fight. So let's wait for you to get healed before confronting Liam then you two can spar, if you want to beat him".

Rex glared then sputtered, "I didn't say I wanted to spar with him you idiot".

With one last glare my way he left, Theo and Luke leaving with him.

"Well that was easy" I snorted.

Mark shook his head, "I can't believe he's an Alpha and that I'm his beta."

I raised my brow at him, "well I guess with your parents being a beta means you get to be one. Isn't that want you wanted".

Scrubbing a hand down his face he shook his head, "you don't get it. My parents only care about being in the high ranks. I never wanted to be a beta or anything. I just wanted a normal life without popularity".

"And then I found out some shit and when I sneaked some talks about it to my parents they shut me down immediately. And now the more shit I uncover I just want to end it all and make my mate safe".

"Wait what?" I asked confused.

Mark started walking and I fell in step with him.

"It was after my fight with Aurora that I knew something was wrong. All my parents kept saying was that I should have killed the nuisance even after knowing I was wrong. But then I heard the alphas and her parents talking about forcing her into the assassins league".

"I was still bedridden and not healing but I could hear it all. I heard about the death count, how they lied to each families. And more importantly I knew they were after unmated ones cause, it was less stress and no one would knew they were dead".

"And then you came into the picture, Rex was getting angrier, Lisa was pushing herself to Nathan, the alphas were trying to convince us on joining the league. But I knew you hated it, you hated being an assassin and it was weird coming from the alpha of the assassins".

"But you didn't like the title, you didn't care about the streny, it was obvious you wanted out of it"

Understanding dawned on me, "that's why you began helping me, you needed me to do something?".

He nodded. "The night I found Kassandra, that was when I knew it was crazier than I thought. And you were the only person that could help. I initially started helping you because I hated Rex. I only kept with him cause I'm his beta".

"Why would you think I could do something"

Mark smiled, "just the way I don't want anyone or anything to hurt Kass. It's the same way I knew you would do anything to get your mate out of their eye sight. You were always tensed when they brought up the topic of her joining".

I grinned "well you got that right Mark".

We stopped before the hospital, "why are we here" I asked.

"There's something I need you to see. That's why I took long".

We entered, heading to the lower levels were the new intakes for the assassins were taken.

It wasn't unusual for us to be there and we knew the alphas would be notified, so we just hung around, with Mark showing me the cells on the right, after that he showed me those on the left.

And I nearly lost it.

Those on the left, looked like they were about to die any moment. I could tell that it was just their wolves keeping them alive.

We left there moments later.

"What the hell was that?" I growled.

"They upped the doses, and the effects doubled, so far no one has survived it. It's been on for four days".

I growled "Shit. We have to act fast, this can't continue for long".

"I know. That's why I wanted you to see it yourself besides if..."

Mark suddenly lunged at me growling, his fist gripping my shirt tightly.

Luke and Theo are watching. He linked.

Next time give me a warning.

After a while he pulled back and walked away.

I threw a glare towards Luke and Theo who were smirking, before heading to my quarters.

I linked with Mark. We meet at midnight during the shift.

I had shuffled the schedule so Mark and I could guard the same area together. But I still have to use the link.

I couldn't risk anyone knowing we worked together.

The alphas agreed to me joining the search. So I'm gonna be gone for some days.

Great. What about the back up story?

We'll work on it while I'm away.

Think you can make Rex desperate to see Aurora. I need him very pissed by the time I'm back.

He chuckled, hell yeah I can.

Good. I leave first thing tomorrow morning. And I'll have your mate contact you.
