LIAM'S POV
I cocked my head to the side "so what exactly do you mean?". Nathan shrugged "it's either that or nothing else". Glaring at him I sat straight crossing my legs "so you think she doesn't know what she wants?"
He shrugged again "they're mates Liam, the mate bond can't be broken because of some silly misunderstanding". "But it can be broken when they both reject each other" I countered.
Lisa stiffened shuffling in her seat. I watched her a bit, she has been acting weird this past weeks and I was getting really suspicious. It didn't help that she suddenly distance herself form her friends.
"Do you have something to add Lisa?" I questioned. She glanced round the room before exhaling slowly "I think Liam is right, the mate bond is broken and she has moved on with it, there's no need trying to force her back to you Rex"
At least someone is smart today. Xavier scoffed.
Rex growled or tried the best growl he could give "I want her before the next full moon and it's barely two weeks away. Why don't you just think of something rather than giving up".
I rolled my eyes at his tantrums with a smile on my face.
Too bad he's already hurt, I would love to beat him up. Xavier grumbled.
I looked outside the window, tuning out the conversation around me. Rex's been up for just two days and he's already pissing me off.
This morning he called for a meeting with all his friends. A stupid meeting on how he would win and get back Aurora as his mate and possibly mate her before the full moon.
And am pretty sure the reason he called for me was to rub it in my face since he's not sure if we're mates but he's certain nothing is going on between us since we haven't mated yet.
Turning to them I stood "I've got nothing else to say so I'll be leaving", looking straight at Rex I smirked "good luck with getting her back".
Walking out I linked Aurora. Where are you?
Forest grounds.
What the hell are you doing there, it's dangerous.
Chill Liam am just finishing up my assignments.
Why don't you do that in your room. Am about heading to your room now.
I need air Liam, plus Cora wants to run for a while. I promise I'll let you know if I see anything suspicious.
Don't just let me know, run while you do that.
Sure thing boyfriend. Well you're distracting me so, am out.
I rolled my eyes and took a turn towards my lodge. I had just flopped on my bed when I felt Alpha Miguel reaching me.
Opening the link I frowned, Hope no problem Alpha?.
He chuckled. It isn't a problem Liam but a getway and good news. I need you in the office now.
Huffing I got up and headed back to pack house. Alpha Miguel sounded excited so I was in a rush to the office when I bumped into someone.
It's was one of Aurora's female friends. Mary. "sorry wasn't paying attention".
She shook her head "it's okay I was searching for you actually"
I raised my brows "what's wrong?". "We haven't been able to link with Aurora for the last hour and we're worried she left..."
"It's okay" I interrupted "I spoke to her not long, she's busy with homework"
She frowned a bit before her eyes lit up "that's true, back at school she made mention of needing a little space for her assignment".
"That's good, tell the rest not to worry. Well I've got to leave" moving past her I hurried towards the office.
When I got there Maxwell was about opening the door. We both stepped into the office where both Alphas, enforcer Michael and two other soldiers who were always in the security room were seated.
But what got me weary was the fact that they all had wide grins on their faces.
"Come in have a seat" Alpha Stevens called out. I sat down cautiously.
"We have good news, probably the best new in while" enforcer Michael spoke up practically bouncing in his seat.
"And what is it?" Maxwell enquired as confused as I was.
"Remember last week when that wolf came to our territory wrecking havoc. Well one of our soldiers who died during the attack was able to get a shot at her" Alpha Miguel smiled widely.
"And why is that a good news?" I asked annoyed and tired of seeing their smiley faces.
"It's a good news because it wasn't a normal gun. It was a tracker" one of the tech guys answered.
I felt a smile bloom on my face "well that is certainly a very good news". Maxwell whooped loudly getting up to check enforcer Michael's hand.
"So where's the tracker's signal now?" I inquired.
"We're about go check that out but there's a glitch in the system. Robbie here is working on it, in a few minutes he should be able to get through."
"And when we get the location, it's the end of that wolf" Maxwell seethed.
While everyone was smiling and feeling light I wasn't sure why all I felt was dread.
~~~~~~~~~~
It's been over an hour since I was called to the Alphas office. The tech guy hasn't been able to get through the system yet but he had made some progress.
The trackers signal is on which means it's still on the oblivious wolf or whoever is the wolf.
Within that time I noticed that Maxwell's eyes glazed over frequently and at a point he gripped his chair in anger. Linking with my informant, I found out he isn't aware of Aurora's location. And that Maxwell has told someone to scout round for her.
I so wanted to stretch out my hand and squeeze the life out of him but I knew it would seem bad in front of the Alphas.
I certainly don't care about the Alphas thoughts on his blood splattered around the walls. Xavier growled lowly.
Yeah but I do, we don't want to be an enemy of the Alphas.
Fine then.
Robbie suddenly shouted "I've got it, I've got the system running". We all rushed to his seat, he clicked some buttons and the map of our territory was shown.
But suddenly a red light was visible on the map.
"Why's the red light in our territory?" Enforcer Michael asked the question bothering me.
Robbie looked at us "the shifter is in our midst. I'll try to get it's exact location" and he began pressing random buttons fast. I couldn't even tell what buttons he pressed.
After a while the map got larger and the red dot brighter. Scanning the map I felt all the blood in my veins freeze.
The person is in the forest grounds.
All around me, the Alphas barked orders on gathering guards telling then to secure the border and creek so no one would leave. While Maxwell was linking with some assassins.
But one thing ran through my mind and it was the reminder that my mate is doing her assignment in the forest grounds and she could possibly be in danger.
I tried linking with Aurora but I didn't get anything.
Mate. Go get mate. Xavier growled.
I stood straight "I'll head in with the first set of troops to clear the area".
Maxwell nodded "20 men are outside". Robbie handed me a tablet "this shows the location of the shifter the trail will lead you right to him".
Nodding I rushed out and tried linking with Aurora again but it was blocked.
Standing before the assassins I called out "we have to head out now, the trail has been sent to some of you, so break out in groups and spread out. And remember we want him alive".
I picked out 10 men and we took through the training ground towards the forest.
I tried linking to Aurora but still nothing. Xavier was getting antsy and it wasn't helping that I couldn't hear a think from her.
The trail we took was taking us closer to the middle of the forest when suddenly the red dot began movie further from us.
It's moving away. I said through the open mind link.
We've rounded the territory and are coming from your front.
We're at the side
We are coming from the creek
Okay then we have him surrounded. Chase and don't stop till we get it. I ordered.
We advanced to the middle of the forest where it was quiet and no scent could be gotten.
I could see the other troops and it was obvious we have the shifter surrounded.
"Show yourself now and we'll go easy on you" Maxwell boomed from the left.
Then it hit me.
Mate. Mate is in danger. Xavier growled.
I could feel Aurora's fear and pain.
Aurora. But I got no reply.
Damn it baby talk to me where are you?
Still nothing except the fear and pain.
"So you want it the hard way right?. Set it on fire" Alpha Miguel ordered.
My eyes widened. Aurora can you hear me I need to know where you are?.
The first grenade hit a tree setting it on fire, the second spread the fire. It became hot but still no sign of the shifter.
"He's on the move" someone shouted.
Looking at my tablet I saw the tracker moving towards the border but Alpha Miguel threw another grenade at it's front and it turned towards our direction.
The fire spread round and the heat was blazing.
Almost like an apparition a red glow became prominent in the middle of the fire and the red wolf stood on its hunches growling at us.
"Shoot it down" Alpha Stevens ordered and shots rang out. The wolf growling in pain.
With each growl Xavier whimpered and I felt a sharp pain.
Suddenly a body was thrown towards Alpha Miguel, Knocking down two soldiers. Next was something bloody and it was thrown directly at Maxwell.
The wolf turned and I could swear it looked straight at me. Growling one last time it turned and ran towards the pack border.
Liam help. Aurora called out.
I looked towards the running wolf but we couldn't give chase because of the fire. But it didn't seem like it was hurting the wolf.
"Don't let it out of your sight" Maxwell ordered the guards at the border. But the link was filled with screams and groans. After a while it was silent.
Anyone there?. Alpha Miguel inquired in the link but it was met with silence.
I knew they were all dead but I didn't want to believe the wolf had my mate.
"Let's head back to the pack house. Troop 3, give chase but take the trail through the creek. We shot it lots of tranquilizers so it won't get far". He continued
"Alpha we have a problem" Maxwell growled "it took the tracker out but good news we have Luke with us".
Alpha Stevens growled "let's head back and regroup"
We all headed back but as we got to the building Aurora's friends ran out.
The Neil guy was the first to speak " good evening Alphas but we can't find Aurora".
I clenched my fingers trying to contain my emotions.
"Where was she?" Maxwell asked. "The creek. She said she needed somewhere quiet to do her assignments before she heads for training" kate answered.
The Alphas looked at each other, "have you tried linking her" I asked.
Neil nodded "she just kept screaming for help and after a while it was silent".
"But she's still alive, I can still feel her pain and fear" Kate rushed out.
I nodded not saying anything, I could still feel her fear and pain. It was like a million punches to my gut.
"It's okay, we sent some people to give chase. But am sure she's around somewhere probably got scared of the fire and all" Alpha Stevens tried to assure them but it was obvious from him tone he wasn't sure either.
Mary gasped "is that Luke?". We all turned to the soldier who carried Luke. She began crying "that psychopathic wolf is going to hurt her. You have to do something"
Enforcer Michael growled and walked inside the pack house, both Alphas and Maxwell followed behind.
"Take Luke to the hospital. Come on guys we have to talk" I ordered my voice sounding firm but I was certainly not strong. The soldier nodded and headed to the hospital. Gesturing to Aurora's friends I headed to the training grounds.
The moment they surrounded me I closed my eyes clenching my fist tightly, my throat closing up "am not going to mince my words. I think she was actually taken."
Mary's cry got louder while her mate tried to console her. "What do we do?" Dave asked his voice wavering slightly.
I shook my head "nothing for now, just try to keep contacting her and stay together at all times in case she turns up. And please keep this information to yourself".
They nodded and I walked away heading towards the pack house for the meeting. Taking my time to compose myself and keep my emotions in check.
~~~~~~~~~~
In the Alphas office, enforcer Michael was seething with rage. I turned to Maxwell "what do we have?"
He cleared his throat gaining the attention of everyone in the room, he waved a bloody bag "this is the tracker in his body. He probably overhead our conversations and picked on the fact that he has a tracker on him. So he dug the tracker from his body but it has no hair or fur and it was wrapped in Luke's cloth so we can't even get a scent.".
Alpha Miguel nodded "it's obviously smart and cautious. I think he came back to drop Luke but we surprised him by ambushing him".
"And my daughter?. We have to do something, she's in pain and I know it" Enforcer Michael growled.
"Wrong place, wrong time. I think he took her as a means of escape because the fire pissed him off" I answered.
Alpha Stevens nodded "we'll do everything we can to get Aurora back. She's not just your daughter she's also my son's mate".
Xavier growled but I calmed him "we have to concentrate on getting her back not on their high hopes of her being Rex's mate".
The moment the meeting got dismissed I ran to the garage. Starting up my motorcycle I sped out of the pack house.
I need to find my mate.
