LIAM'S POV

I stared at my mate who laid beside me sleeping soundly. She looks so fragile and soft it made me want to cover and shield her from every danger. But with Rex and Theo laying in the hospital I know she's strong enough to take on her own.

My mind wandered to last night's event. Even without alpha Stevens conclusion it was obvious that whatever happened last night was done to make people scared.

And what best way to do that, especially making them face their worst fears, even if it's imaginary.

I sighed heavily as I thought back to the pain I felt when I had those images.

My greatest fear of all time had always been, being unable to revenge my parents death but to my surprise last night revealed to me that my greatest fear was not even that.

I stroked Aurora's cheeks softly. Last night showed me that my worst fear is seeing Aurora killed, especially by the one person who killed my parents.

Maxwell.

That fucking two faced bastard. Xavier growled.

Gently getting up from the bed, I strode to the window scanning the area.

It was still dark outside, the air light and cool, making the atmosphere calm but my mind is anything but calm.

Not with the memories rushing through my head and crashing like waves.

Flashback

Dad and I were playing catch in our wolves, with Mom and Aunt Lola talking by the side. When suddenly Uncle Maxwell ran to the field shouting that we were under attack.

Mom carried me in with Aunt Lola behind us. But as we got to the house I saw Uncle Maxwell pull Aunt Lola to the side and she suddenly fell. Her clothes turning red.

I screamed and mom held me tighter, speeding through the stairs.

When we got to my room she sat me on the bed and closed the curtains.

"Stay inside Liam don't come out. No matter what happens just stay inside, okay?"

"But Mom what's going on, where's dad and why did uncle Maxwell hurt Aunt Lola?"

"There are bad wolves outside so your dad and I are going to chase them away and am sure your uncle didn't hurt Lola. So just stay in so the bad wolves don't get you".

Mom kisses my cheeks and leaves locking the door behind her.

Turning the knob I knew it was actually locked so I went to the window.

The sight was horrible. Dead bodies everywhere and more were falling.

Looking through the glass I saw Mom shift and attack

"Yeah go mummy" I cheered.

The fight went on for while with me frowning when Mom and Dad got hurt. And cheering when they killed the bad wolves.

It wasn't long before the bad wolves began leaving, I knew we we won.

Pushing through the window I tried getting down using the branch of a tree closeby to anchor myself.

I was almost down when I saw Uncle Maxwell close to Dad, they were talking when Dad turned back and Uncle Maxwell threw himself on Dad. When he stood back up dad wasn't moving anymore.

I saw Mom come out and screaming for Dad but he held Mom back and pulled her hair.

Mom kept screaming and thrashing but he held her and after a while twisted her neck before she could shift. Pushing his hand in he ripped her heart out.

Bitting my lips I muffled the scream that threatened to burst out. As quickly and careful as I could I climbed back to my room and hid in the bathroom.

Moments later Uncle Maxwell found me and took me to his house were he told me his mate and my parents were killed my those bad wolves he called rouges.

Staring at him my ten year old self knew he was dangerous but there was nothing I could do, except to hope he doesn't kill me

Too bad he did worse because years after years he used me as a lab rat. Giving me enhancement upon enhancement, making me undergo trainings and all

Little does he know what I do. With all these powers he has given me, I plan on getting the one thing that I decided when I was ten, which never changed even till now.

Revenge.

The memories still brought anger, so clenched my fist tightly and tried to regulate my breathing.

Closing my eyes I took a deep breath only to release it when I felt a soothing sensation spread from my back round my body.

Xavier purred in joy. My muscled loosened.

Aurora walked round till she was standing before me "what's wrong?".

I shook my head "it's nothing" but she frowned "well it's something cause you're still up and Cora also sensed it".

I tilted my head "what did she sense?". She shrugged "anger and hurt. Do you wanna talk about it?".

"Not really but I guess I should" she gripped my shoulders "I want you to tell me not because you owe me an explanation but because you want to share it".

I smiled at her "I actually do want to talk about it"

She nodded and pulled me to the bed, pshing me down first before she straddled me placing her head on my chest, her arms wrapped around me.

Returning the embrace I kissed her hair. After a while I spoke up "you were killed and I couldn't do anything about it"

She pulled back a bit "I don't understand"

I pushed her back to my chest so she couldn't see the vulnerability that shone in my eyes.

"My worst fear has always been my inability to get revenge. But last night I saw you get killed by the same person I want to get back at. And like the past, I couldn't do anything"

At the end of my statement I felt her emotions hit me like a wave.

Guilt.

It made me wonder why she felt bad.

"How did you get the images?" She asked hugging me tighter.

"I was trying to link with Maxwell when I saw his images, they were linked to me. Guess that's why I had mine".

She seemed to be in thought before she gasped loudly.

"Hold on why and how is Maxwell's worse fear related to yours?"

Pulling her back a bit I nuzzled her neck "let's not talk about this okay?". She nodded and went back to her position.

"Cora felt your pain. When I searched round for you I saw you standing from the floor with a baby so I assumed you fell".

"Yeah that was when a lady fell almost trampling on her child."

"Good thing you were there. Great save dude" she chuckled kissing my neck.

Falling back to the bed I held her close breathing her scent in.

"I'll be careful and nothing's gonna happen to me. I promise" she swore quietly.

Hugging her tightly I kissed her head and not long after I as out like a light.

Strolling through the hallway in the pack house I thought back to my conversation with Aurora.

I still don't know why it bothered me when she felt bad about my worse fear.

Maybe she's just bothered that she's the reason. Xavier reasoned.

Yeah but I feel it's more than that. Do you think she was affected?

Not sure. Would have felt her pain like she felt ours.

I sighed. It was certainly something but I just wasn't sure what it was.

Knocking on the Alphas office I walked in when I was called.

Both Alphas and enforcers, Nathan, Mark and Damien were already seated.

"You're late and why's that?" Maxwell growled out the moment I stepped in.

"Sorry am late, had to go for a run" I apologized looking at the Alphas.

"Well it better not happen next time" Maxwell grunted.

Xavier rolled his eyes. He's just pissed about us being his worse fear.

Certainly. I wonder how long it will take before he attacks me.

Then we'll show him who's the boss.

Damn right about that.

I took a seat by the edge of the room close to the door. At this position I can see everyone clearly.

"Let's get this meeting started shall we?" Enforcer Michael stated looking round.

Alpha Miguel cleared his throat "Liam what do you have on the footage".

"The camera had a glitch but we were able to clear it out. We didn't get the face of the intruder only his body outline. He's between 5'5 and 5'9 and for someone who is short he sure is muscled and fast, really fast. He wore a black jacket and has black hair. That's about all we could get."

"So he got outside the border?" Mark asked.

I nodded "at least that what we think"

"What do you mean you think, as a tracker you should be sure not guessing" Maxwell boomed.

The office was suddenly quiet "is there something you want to share with us Maxwell?" Alpha Stevens asked. Maxwell shook his head.

"Then I suggest you stop calling Liam out unnecessarily" Alpha Miguel scolded.

Maxwell nooded his head "I apologise Alphas". Enforcer Micheal shook his head "you should apologize to Liam also". The Alphas nodded in agreement while Maxwell looked like he was told to kiss my feet.

Well to him it's equivalent to kissing your feet. Apologizing to you would make him seem little. Xavier scoffed.

Like I care it's his fault anyways.

Smiling I waved my hand "it's okay Alphas, it seems he's in a bad mood from last night. Right Uncle Max?"

I smirked when he stiffened and glared. I knew he hated when I called him Uncle Max.

"To answer your question Mark, I think he's still around the territory. The guards who gave chase said he ran towards the pack border but at a point they lost his scent. But few minutes later they sensed his power close to the pack house by the training ground."

"That close?" Damien asked. I nodded "he's probably still in the pack territory or he's done his work and left".

"What do you mean his work, do you think he's responsible for what happened last night?" Nathan asked looking round.

"Of course he is, that is why he ran out but the problem is why he came back and how the hell he got into the great Hall" alpha Stevens growled out.

It was quiet for a while before I decided to lay my main thoughts out, "He's a member of this pack or has a friend in this pack"

Everyone turned to me, "what do you mean?" Maxwell asked.

Sitting straight I traced the band in my hand "he knew where Luke and Aurora were headed, he knows where the cameras around the territory are placed that way he avoids them, he has access and freedom to move round freely and he knows all the routes in the pack territory".

They glanced at each other. Maxwell turned to me anger all over his face "what exactly are you saying and how does Luke's disappearance concern this?".

I shrugged "this all began after Luke's disappearance although he dominated us once but after that everything was quiet".

Alpha Miguel tilted his head "so you think this guy is responsible for Luke's disappearance, he stays in this pack either as a pack member or visitor".

I nodded.

"How about going through the visitors and seeing if any of them matched the profile of the intruder?".

"We'll do that this evening. And Michael am going to need the names of pack members who have recent visitors. Maxwell check on the guards sent out, Nathan and Damien I need you two to check on Rex and Theo. Finally Liam I need you and Mark to track and investigate where the Intruder's scent stopped last night" Alpha Stevens ordered

We all nodded "good then off to work everyone" Alpha Miguel concluded.

We all stepped out but when we got outside the pack house, Maxwell pulled me to the side "what were you doing and where were you last night?".

"Sleeping, why's that?"

"I came to your room but you weren't in, so where were you"

I raised my brows "how did you know I wasn't in?" He glared at me "I didn't hear your heartbeat"

More like you didn't see us when you broke in. Xavier scoffed. And he doesn't even know we're aware he breaks into our room.

I shrugged "couldn't sleep, had to head out"

"By heading out you mean?". I pulled my hand from his grasp "I mean it's none of your business Maxwell. I suggest you get to work"

Brushing past him I walked to Mark, "let's begin with the training ground"

Aurora's POV

Sighing I ran a hand through my hair. It's 8am on a Saturday morning and am up, sitting before my laptop trying to concentrate but I can't.

Liam left early this morning for a meeting and I haven't been able to go back to sleep. Certainly not with my thoughts on a rampage.

My conversation with Liam made me realize three things.

First, Liam being Maxwell's worse fear.

Second, Maxwell is the person who killed Liam's parents.

And third, am falling real hard for Liam.

Took you long enough to figure that out huh? Cora snickered.

This is going to be a huge disaster Cora.

She huffed, I know that, so let's enjoy the peace for now till when we'll spill our guts or worse of all Liam finds out.

I shook my head chuckling a little.

But my good mood died down when I remembered that Maxwell is the culprit behind mine and Liam's parents death.

Seriously what the hell is that guy's problem.

I don't know Cora but I think I have an idea on what he aiming for.

And what's that?

Like Luke said, Maxwell is power and fame hungry. He has always wanted to make history. Luke mentioned that at a young age Maxwell found a way to make his sister's wolf dominant. The success of the project led him to experimenting on rouges trying out different things on them.

Explains a lot but not the reason he killed his own sister her husband and her best friend who's also his mate. How can one be so cruel.

I don't know girl but that is what we're gonna find out.

And how do you wanna do that?

Don't know yet but we'll get there.

When do you think Maxwell enhanced his sister's wolf.

Probably before she got mated or pregnant. Why?

If that's the case then Liam would have gotten a little of the enhancement.

But he's an assassin he got the enhancement and all.

And yet he doesn't have their stench. He smells different and not because he's our mate.

What exactly does this mean?, he's in the league and he even defeated Nathan and Rex.

He did. So it makes me confused as to why he's in the league if he's already enhanced. Although I think he's an enhancement himself. He doesn't have the scent wolves have.

Wait what?

Yes. I don't think Liam was convinced naturally. I think he was made.

I shook my head. Let's talk about this when my head isn't on the verge of exploding.

Standing I head to the bathroom. It's time I got real busy with Luke.

I took the stairs down. Getting to the kitchen I met up with my friends.

"Hy guys who's up for a run?" I asked knowing fully well that they had gone for their runs.

"Lady it's 2pm we've gone and we're back" Dave snickered.

"But why didn't you guys call me" I grumbled.

Mary rolled her eyes "girl the last time I came to do that, you argued that your sleep is more important. Besides Liam spent the night with you so I didn't want to intrude"

I turned to her "how did you know that?". She chuckled and waved my phone "you forgot this with me last night. Don't worry I only saw you two hugging".

The rest of them laughed as my face turned red "stop it guys we haven't done anything yet"

"OMG she said yet, which means you actually want something to happen" Dave squealed.

Taking my phone from Mary I shook my head walking away "am off for a run"

"Link us when there's something wrong okay" Kate yelled.

"Sure thing" I called back.

If only they know that we're the one they should call when in danger. Cora grunted.

Jogging to the field I spotted few people running round and some wolves playing around.

Heading to the edge close to the hospital I began jogging round. My mind going to the meeting held in the Alphas office.

This is getting interesting. Cora murmured.

I rolled my eyes at her. It is but Liam's getting close at least he has a hint of things. We've got to be more careful.

Now that's our mate. He's really good but not good enough to get us unless we want him to.

It seems you enjoy this game of hide and seek we play with them.

Cora howled in laughter. I certainly do but so do you and don't deny it.

I smiled. I do, I most certainly do.
