            Lucienne (Lucy) Evans was my favorite friend. Even if she wasn't mine first. Junia, my twin sister, and I—we shared everything. Friends, straws, orange slices, and clothes until I grew a foot taller than her. She liked wearing clothes meant for boys, but I left her closet be. I spent years choking back I love you, hoping one day I'd garner enough courage to tell Lucy how I felt.

The days stretched. Summers passed. Winters thawed. We outgrew our youth. And all we ever remained was friends. It's what I thought we were meant to be, no matter how much I hated it.
