Chapter 6

Jesse's POV

"Jesse just do it!" Archer urged me. I typed a long paragraph to Jake about Hope group and asked if I could do the report and ask him some questions. I couldn't force myself to press the send button....

"I can't do it."

"Why not? It's not like anything bad can happen."

"But it can! He can think I'm a weirdo and never talk to me."

"I highly doubt that." She swiftly reached over my shoulder and pressed send before I knew what happened.

"Archer!!"

"You're welcome."

"I can't believe you."

"Really?"

"Well I can. You do crap like this all the time."

"Exactly. Now you need to practice auctioneering incase he ask you too. You gotta impress him."

"I doubt he ask me to do that."

"Hey you know what they say, auctioneer to me."

"I'm pretty sure it's talk dirty to me."

"Not in this case."

"Why are you so quiet?" Mom asked me at supper.

"No reason." I shrugged.

"She messaged Jake earlier and he hasn't seen it." Archer said. I glared at her.

"As soon as he sees it he'll answer.  He'll be honored." Mom assured me.

"Okay." I sighed.

I laid in bed and waited for my lullaby. I closed my eyes and waited for the train to rumble in the distance. I couldn't sleep. My stomach churned at the thought of my message to Jake. I slowly got up and slipped on my boots. I snuck out the door and walked to the barn.

"Shh, it's okay girl." I soothed my horse and and open her stall door. I climbed on top of her.

"Go girl." I took off and rode through the fields. The bitter cold breeze hit my face brutally. I heard that familiar rumble and stopped. I closed my eyes and let nature take me. The coyotes howled. The sound of trees rustling in the wind filled my eyes. The whispers of the wind circled my head. This is where I felt most at home. This is my home. Beautiful Oklahoma. No matter where I go in life this will be home. I'll always yearn for this land. It's apart of me. It is me. I know my town has its faults but it has so many great things about it and I wouldn't change it. But I pushed these thoughts out of my head and stayed connected with my surroundings. I couldn't push one thought out of my head though, the thought of Jake Meyer.

I'm not sure how long I stayed there. I would've stayed longer but I noticed the train had long passed so I decided it was time to head home.

I crawled in bed and noticed my phone lit up. I clicked it on and read the notification. 1 new message from Jake Meyers...

Jake's POV

I need to clear my head. I love what I do. It's my passion. But this fame is tough. Message after message from girls I don't know. I feel bad because I ignore most of them but if I talk to a girl I want to talk to her for the right reasons. I mounted my paint and rode off.  I rode till I couldn't see my house. I looked over the Kansas prairie and smiled. I have so much pride for my home. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. From where I'm standing all you can see ahead of you is more land. Just looking out here clears my head a lot and takes the weight off my shoulders.

I turned around and head home. Inside my house my phone is madly buzzing. More messages. Yay. I scroll through them and most off them are girls telling me how good looking I am and if I'm ever there way to holler. Gold diggers. The rest are fellow auctioneers congratulating me. Those kinds of messages don't bother me at all. But one message stood out. It was different then other I got. This girl might just get a text back....

~~~A/N Sorry it's been so long but I hope you enjoy it. It's just a filler. The main events are coming. Please let me know what you think!
