Chapter 4
Jesse's POV
*Dream*
"I know, you don't wanna break his heart, but that ain't no good reason to be keeping us apart look,
just tell him, it's you, it ain't him,
and maybe you can lie to him and say you'll still be friends
Whatever you got to say to get through to him that you ain't in love
C'mon you can't deny that you and I kinda fit like a glove. I know you ain't in love with him, break up with him."
*End of Dream*
I open my eyes and hear the rooster crow. I groan amd crawl out of bed. I slipped my boots on and throw my hair in a ponytail.
I meet Archer in the hallway.
"Your turn to water." I tell her.
"Ugh!!! I hate watering." She gripes.
"You hate everything that involves physical activity."
I feed the horses, chickens, and pigs. While I'm doing that Archer waters them all.
I lean against the fence by the water trough.
"You still haven't told me where you were."
"I said I'd tell you after church."
"Or you can just tell me now and get it over with."
"Or I could just not tell you at all."
"Fine. Fine. I'll wait."
"That's what I thought." She smirked.
When all the chores were done we went back inside to get ready. Mom cooked eggs in the hole for us.
"Hurry and get ready. I gotta be there early. It's the first Sunday of the month." Mom told us.
"Yes ma'am."
The first Sunday of every month we have a big potluck dinner at church. Mom always takes enough to feed an army so it takes her a while to get everything set out.
I put on a simple dress with a denim jacket and my boots. I brushed my hair and just left it down natural.
I walked to the living room and Mom eyed me.
"What?" I ask confused.
"Come here."
"Ok." I walked over to her. She smelled me awkwardly.
"Goodness child haven't I taught you better?"
"What?"
"Never leave the house without your signature perfume on!" She said.
"Oh sorry. I forgot."
"You'd forget your head if it wasn't attached." She mumbled.
I went back to my bedroom and put my perfume on. I grabbed my Bible and met them outside.
"You're slow this morning." Mom said.
"She's thinking about her man." Archer teased. I looked at her confused.
"Dakota?" Mom asked.
"No. That young auction on tv."
"Jake Meyers?" I asked.
"That'd be the one. I saw the way you looked at him." She smirked.
"I just thought it was cool he's so young and already doing that." I shrugged.
"Whatever."
After carrying in all of Mom's dishes my arms were about to fall off. We have a kitchen full of food and about 20 people. I don't think anyone's gonna go hungry today.
Our lesson was about purity. Since most of the kids are in high school now the preacher makes a point to talk about it at least every few months. I notice Archer looked uncomfortable. Wonder what's wrong with her?
After the service we set up tables and chairs. We said a prayer and then fixed our plates. The Smith's sat by us. Jason is my ag teacher. His oldest son, Daniel sat by me. He's really funny but he gets annoying fast. Archer leaned towards me.
"Daniel is totally flirting." She whispered.
"Oh Lord."
"I gotchu." She said.
"Hey Jesse have you talked to Jake today?" She winked at me.
"Uh..yeah. He's coming over this weekend."
"You two are so cute together." She squealed.
"Yeah I know. Thanks."
"Well I'm gonna go. Got cows to feed. Bye." Daniel stood up and left. Me and Archer look at each other and laugh.
"Race ya!" Archer zooms by me on Blanket.
"You're on." I make Joe go faster and easily bet Archer to the pond.
"I win. Ha. Ha." I joke and slide off Joe.
"Don't get to cocky."
"You still haven't told me where you were."
"I was out." She sighed.
"Be more specific."
"I was out with Sam."
"Where?"
"At a hotel."
"Why?"
"What do normal teens do at hotels?!" She yelled.
"I would probably watch TV and eat food and go relax in the hot tub but I'm not a normal teen." I said.
"We did it ok!"
"It? As in...it?"
"Yes it as in it!" She walked off. I laughed.
"What's so funny?" She asked.
"You were literally a whore in church. I was wondering why you kept fanning yourself!" I rolled on the ground laughing.
"Shut up!"
"I'm kidding. I can't believe you did that!"
"Neither can I. It just happened."
"You officially beat me at something."
"Mom doesn't need to know."
"I gotchu."
"Thanks Jess."
"I have so much blackmail on you."
We ride around our place for awhile.
"What's on your mind?" Archer asked me.
"Nothing." I sigh.
"I know you. And I know somethings bothering you. Tell me now."
"I had another dream that's all. I've been having really weird dreams lately."
"About the same guy?"
"Yeah. I know him but I don't know him. I never see his face. And I don't recognize his voice but I've heard it before."
"Sounds like the Lord's trying to tell you something."
"It'd be some much easier if I could see his face."
"You will one day."
"But I want to now!"
"Patience is a virtue."
"But I have no patience!"
"Apparently neither do I." She referred to last night.
"Disgusting." I gag.
I lay my head on my pillow and wait for my lullaby. The sound of the coyotes howl and the rumbling of the train. I don't why but it always sooths me. When I hear it I close my eyes and smile. I can't help but think about my dreams. They have to mean something. I just can't figure it out.
