Chapter 3

Starting in this chapter, there are major Legacy spoilers, so if you have not read it, STOP READING!! I don't want to spoil anything for you!

Keefe's POV

When Keefe heard that Edaline had gone missing, he certainly didn't expect Sophie to sigh in relief. Everyone turned to her. She looked up at them and said, "What? If Edaline and Juline are both missing, at least they're together! And, even if they didn't leave a note, they are sisters, so they probably just went somewhere together."

Everyone glanced at Alden, except for Keefe. He narrowed his eyes. You know, Foster, I can still fell your emotions. What's going on? Sophie jumped, having forgotten that Keefe's mind was still linked to hers. She glared at him and transmitted back. Nothing. Everything is-oh, forget it. Ugh, stupid empaths. Whatever. I just want Dex and Kesler to feel reassured.

Keefe glanced over at Dex. He was sitting up straighter, and looking a bit better. Well, it worked. But are you okay? He grabbed her hand and squeezed it. Sophie tugged out a loose eyelash with her free hand and nodded. He could tell she was upset, but didn't press it.

He felt anger coming from someone and glanced up in surprise to see Fitz glaring at the hands. He quickly dropped Sophie's hand and focused his attention on Alden.

"Sophie may be right, but as we still can't access either of their imparters, we will be sending out search parties." Alden was saying. Keefe's eyebrows furrowed. "Why can't we just track them with their registry pendants?" He asked.

Alden shook his head and gave a grim smile. "The council tracked their registry pendants and found them both next to each other on the ground in the Wanderling Woods. So once again, Sophie is probably right and they are together, but we're not sure why they would take them off." From the look on Alden's face and the worried emotions radiating off him, Keefe guessed that he didn't believe that Juline and Edaline had just gone off on a shopping spree to Atlantis.

Fitz's POV

Ugh. Why did he break it off? He regretted his decision so much. Fitz knew that there were much bigger things to worry about, like someone had gone missing. Was it Kesler? Oh wait, he was right there with them.

He had tuned out other thoughts as he watched Sophie and Keefe have a telepathic conversation together. Why didn't Sophie want to talk to him? Granted, things were still a little awkward between them after Sophie had found out one of her biological parents.

He just didn't understand why she couldn't tell him! He was her boyfriend, after all. Well, not anymore, but at the time he was, and Sophie still kept secrets from him. They were cognates!

She probably told Keefe. So what if he was an empath? She was good at keeping secrets. Ugh, Keefe was holding her hand again. Probably calming her down. He could calm her down, too. He glowered at their hands. Keefe looked at him and quickly dropped Sophie's hand. Yes, he was probably obsessing over it, but it was so frustrating. He did like Sophie. Truly. But he just couldn't be a bad match. The game of base quest earlier was great. She smiled at him, and it looked like she wasn't even mad at him. But then Keefe ran in and ruined the moment.

Ugh, don't get me started on Keefe. He thought. Some best friend he was! He suddenly noticed everyone staring at him and looked down. He had been squeezing his hands into fists at his sides. He quickly relaxed them and looked up at his dad. "Sorry," he mumbled. He nodded his head to signal Alden to continue.

Sophie's POV

Sophie smiled at Keefe. He was keeping her calm by making jokes in their heads and sending blue breezes. She glanced over at Fitz and saw that he was staring right at Keefe. Keefe glanced over too and quickly dropped her hand. She focused her attention on Alden.

Sophie slowly made her way over to Dex. "We will find them. They're okay," she whispered to him. He gave her a strained smile and hugged her. She was so happy that she had her best friend back. Things had been awkward for a while, but everything was fine now.

Dex nudged her and nodded his head in the direction of Fitz. His fists were clenched and he was still glaring at Keefe. She rolled her eyes. When would he realize that Keefe didn't do anything to him? Everyone had turned to look at Fitz and he turned red. Sophie smirked then immediately regretted it. Fitz had been a jerk, but that didn't mean she should act the same.

She couldn't help feeling a twinge of annoyance every time he looked at her or Keefe.
