Chapter 17
Linh's POV
Linh glared at Glimmer. Seriously, what was it with that girl? She couldn't leave Tam alone for two days? Ugh. This was so annoying. And now, not only was Glimmer there, so was Fitz and Bex, Dex's younger sister. What had they done to convince Sophie to take them?
"Um, so... I was thinking that we might need another Flasher? On the trip?" Sophie attempted. Everyone looked at Sophie skeptically. Linh made her way over to Wylie. "Wylie is a great Flasher," she said loyally. Wylie smiled at her, and she blushed.
Tam glared at Wylie, and Linh rolled her eyes. Why was he so overprotective of her? "I agree with Linh," Marella said with a glance at Glimmer. "Do we really need all these extra people? I mean, why is Fitz here? Didn't Bex say she didn't want him to come?" Once again, Marella's brutal honesty had people wincing. Glimmer seemed to shrink, and Linh felt a little bad for her. Fitz glared, and Bex nodded thoughtfully.
"That's true, Sophie, why did we bring Fitz too? I mean, Glimmer makes sense because she's-" Bex was cut off by a look from Keefe. "Look, we just think that the more people, the better. Okay?" Keefe asked. Linh, Marella, and Biana didn't nod along with the rest of them. Biana crossed her arms and Marella rolled her eyes.
"Okay, but why Bex?" Dex asked. "She hasn't even manifested yet," he pointed out. Bex gave a sheepish smile and stepped forward. She held out her hands and a flash of electricity zapped the ground, leaving it burned and singed. "WHAT?" Dex exploded. "YOU'RE A CHARGER AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME?" Bex shrugged. "All of us have manifested. Lex manifested even before you. We just agreed not to tell anyone."
Dex looked ready to punch something, but thankfully Tam was standing right next to him, so he wouldn't dare punch someone who could cause him ten times more pain. The funniest thing was, Sophie and Keefe's eyes were wide. It looked like they didn't know that Bex was a charger. But if they thought she didn't have an ability yet, why would they have brought her?
"Lex is a Froster. Rex is a Polygot and a Conjurer. We just knew you would have way too much fun disabling our abilities or something." Dex winced at this. Linh knew all about the time when Dex had created a circlet that turned out to be for Sophie. Sophie's face had hardened, so she must have been thinking of that time, too.
Sophie and Keefe were definitely hiding something, but Keefe's eyes had widened. He nudged Sophie and pointed to the ogres. "There are two huge ogres behind you. WHY ARE THERE TWO HUGE OGRES BEHIND YOU?" Keefe said. Ro leaned forward, squinting. She put her fingers up in a camera position and walked around them. She gasped, and everyone turned to her. "Nope, doesn't ring a bell. Who the heck are you guys?"She asked, stumped.
After introductions had been made and stories had been told, Linh sat down and refused to move until they explained who Glimmer was. Sophie and Keefe seemed very determined to not mention anything, so Linh turned to Glimmer. "You know I'm a hydrokinetic, right? I could drown you in water if I wanted to." The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them. Eakant and Batair sucked in a breath and turned to her angrily. "No! I would never do that, I promise!" Linh cried, mentally kicking herself.
Surprisingly, it was Batair who calmed Eakant down. "Water girl saved us. She is good. Not bad. Just angry. We don't like secrets. Water girl doesn't either. She is a friend. Brother, please. It is okay." Linh held her breath until Eakant smiled. "I'm sorry. I must be extra nervous because of what happened. You are a good friend. My brother is right, though. We don't like secrets. So Linh deserves to know this." Eakant and Batair stood on either side of her, like bodyguards. Linh swelled in warmth, happy that the ogres weren't mad at her.
Keefe and Sophie still hesitated, but it was Glimmer who nodded her head. "Privately, though. Only she can know." Glimmer said ominously. Everyone seemed to be okay with that, Tam because he knew Linh would tell her everything, and the rest because they didn't seem to really care that much. Glimmer led Linh into the forest and made sure they were out of sight before turning to Linh.
"Okay, you're going to be very surprised. But please, don't get mad," Glimmer pleaded. Linh didn't reply. Slowly, Glimmer pulled down her hood. Linh sucked in a gasp. Her head was spinning. No. This couldn't be happening. How- how could this be happening? She heard a voice that seemed very far away. That voice. It was her voice. But...how? When she had finally calmed down, she looked into the face of Glimmer. She was staring at her own reflection.
"How?" Linh whispered. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I'm a Polygot. I disguised my voice. I-Lady Gisela said she would tell me about my family. That's why I joined the Neverseen. She bribed me, and I needed to know. But when I saw you...I knew I had found my family. Linh, my name is Gwyn. I-I'm your sister," her triplet said.
Sooooo, cliffhanger! Sorry about that... but yeah! Glimmer is Linh and Tam's triplet. You'll find out more in the next chapter! Sorry I haven't updated in so long! It's summer now!
