Story is not romantic (yet?)
-----------
It was a beautiful day out. Birds were singing in all of their glory, happily chirping songs of love and affection. Bugs were walking and flying around, working for their queen or their needs of survival. Some small animals like mice wandered around, searching for food and other necessities for their future families and children.
In the middle of the quiet wildlife a goopy figure materialized, from seemingly nothing. Golden Arrows plagued him, as he limped towards a tree, to steady himself on his wonky footing.
"Fuck this!", the very negative, tar-covered, black skeleton yelled in despair, leaning against a large tree from the many surrounding him, tentacles swaying behind him rapidly from pain. The wildlife seemingly shrieked to life, as it began fleeing from the overwhelming fear they felt, listening to their instincts before anything else.
The plants wilted from the negative aura surrounding the skeleton, suffocating and decaying the green life to nothing but brown and bezs colors. The skeleton wasn't bothered by it though, relaxing in the growing negativity around him.
He got injured rather badly by his brother and his team when he was attacking some meaningless Swaptale copy. They just had to come to the peoples' rescue, upon feeling his presence wreaking havoc on them. At least he caused some negativity with all the destruction and killing he did.
Not even those stupid star Sanses could revive the dead.
Be it a monster, human, or other creature.
He creaked a smirk on his face, his goop slightly shining in the sun's light.. While he had injured himself in that unfair fight, two against three, he had won, in the end, accomplishing his goal.
Yes, the black skeleton had an ally. The single ally he ever had in the wretched multiverse he resided in, for not even his brother was ever his true ally.
There was this little annoying ghost haunting him since his corruption. Since the day he had not been able to feel anything but rage, anger and other negative, painful emotions. Since the very day he had become a criminal.
That ghost being you.
You didn't remember what had happened to you in the past. Not how you lived, whom you lived with or how you died. All you remembered was being stuck with the tar-covered skeleton called Nightmare.
And you watched him killing every single villager where he had been, including his brother. But even though you were very confused as to where you were, you felt nothing but blind rage towards the victims. You had yelled in anger for them to die, HATE dripping from your eyes.
It fueled Nightmare's anger, encouraging hymns and crazy laughter echoing in his head, telling him that his actions were justified. That all those demons deserved it. That they needed to die.
After the terrorism he did, Nightmare and you met for real, getting to know each other in the lands, lingering in destruction and death. Needless to say, that Nightmare wasn't exactly thrilled by the spirits' presence. Neither were you.
Though that was the past, and it had been over 500 years ago. You lost count over the many years you spent killing and destroying. At the moment, though, you watched Nightmare, slowly healing his injuries by focusing his negativity on certain places positive arrows hit. The arrows disappeared upon the negativity overflowing and shattering them in the midday sun. Those arrows were nothing less than an annoyance to the two of you.
Regardless, no one but Nightmare knew about the ghost haunting him, and the few things you could actually do. Obviously the first one being that you kept Nightmare mostly unwanted company. The others were some simple abilities, one being passive, while the other was active.
The passive ability allowed him to heal much easier and faster. Saved him a couple of times, actually. Never once grateful to you. It sometimes really annoyed the spirit, when they were in a bad mood.
The active ability allowed you to actively heal him. The downside is that you'd have to rest after too much use.
Either one only accelerated the healing process, meaning that Nightmare would have to disinfect the wound first or reorder his bones correctly, for them to heal the way they should.
"You should've listened to me.", you argued, taking a look at the few injuries you could heal or need to heal before things got worse. "Shut up!", Nightmare snapped, not in the mood, while gathering more negative energy here and there, making sure to take a break in the forest he teleported to in panic. Who knew which AU he was in? All you two knew was that he had survived, for now, taking a breather under the dead trees. The dead land you two lingered in, crows cawing in the background loudly, fleeing from the negativity and death as fast as any other animal tried.
"But this wouldn't have happened if you had listened to me!", you retorted, finishing with the little healing you were able to provide. "I told you to shut your trap, demon!", he yelled back, hissing in pain from the next arrow he shattered. You inhaled sharply, not liking that nickname at all. "D3M0N?" Your voice distorted slightly, as your negativity fed off of the feelings the negative bundle of a creature emitted. "How dare you call me that!?", you yelled at him, anger rising by the second, as the air grew colder and colder around you.
"I was trying to help a negative bastard like you! If you would have formed a group as those positive bitches did, you wouldn't have been outnumbered by them!", you argued further, your eyes dripping the same HATE that covered the skeleton. The air was freezing now, the warmth of the sun not even close to heating the forming little almost invisible ice on the wet forest ground. The negative skeleton was never bothered by it. After all, skeletons don't have a nervous system like other creatures do.
"Are you dense!? Not many people would go around, killing and destroying because of my cause! Also shut your trap already, before the negativity attracts them again! I'm not in the mood!", Nightmare yelled at seemingly nothing. The black skeleton had already gotten rid of the positive arrows that nearly turned him to stone. Though, neither of you knew what would happen to you if he 'died'.
Regardless, you didn't have any of his crap, HATE dripping further from your void like eyes, though your voice calmed itself and sounded legible again. "Yes! Exactly! Not many would, but I joined you. Others would as well! We need the goddamn firepower, Nightmare! And there are many AUs we could manipulate into our cause!", you argued further, feeling Nightmares rising anger. But deep inside that negative mess, you could also feel him get an understanding feeling.
"You could-!" "Let's talk about this later, we should get back to our base, before they find us.", he said, annoyed with your insistence on keeping the conversation going. You shut up, your eyes reverting to their original color and the HATE dissipating, the forest turning deadly quiet, as the uproar of the animals seized. They probably attracted some intelligent beings, such as humans or monsters. Instead, the ghost was looking around for any signs of people they should rid themselves of. Nightmare finally let himself become the very substance he was made of, sinking into the ground and disappearing from the AU dragging you with him. He teleported to your base, taking his sweet time doing so. He was still injured, so it was somewhat justified.
Nightmare wouldn't feel it, but the AU he left was very happy upon his leave. The relief that washed over the forest was astonishing.
You ended up in Nightmares Castle, fitting for a king, in your opinion. For both of your annoyances, the spirit couldn't leave the negative skeleton. Both of you tried to seperate each other a long time ago, eventually giving up and forcing yourself to tolerate each other.
Nightmare teleported you two to his bedroom, decorated in dark colors and majestic artworks, where the former guardian lay down, not wanting to bother with the rest of his injuries. It greatly diturbed you, as his injuries should be healed as fast as possible before any impracticalities arose. "Disinfect your wounds so I can heal them for you.", you commanded, trying to make the skeleton clean his painful little reminders of the past battle, so he wouldn't get any sicker than he already was.
Yes, he was sick. The skeleton suffered from severe brain damage. After all, he should've listened to you.
Nightmare groaned in annoyance and pain, though he made the effort of getting up and treating his remaining wounds. At least he understood that the positivity and certain microorganisms should be removed completely.
"Seems like your brain did not suffer any more damage than it already has.", you rolled your eyes, while the bundle of negativity stared at you with annoyance and anger. He should be grateful since you are the most effective medicine against positivity and injuries.
He really should be.
Nightmare got his first aid kit, holding it with his tentacle and went back to his bed, sitting down and starting to treat his annoying battle reminders. "Also, can we continue that argument now? Or are you finally convinced that we need loyal servants?", you asked with annoyance. Nightmare looked up at the annoying, transparent, floating figure before him. "And how do you recommend getting me underlings?" "You meant getting us underlings, I presume?", the spirit asked, rather offended and annoyed. "Whatever.", Nightmare dismissed, focusing on his injuries again, that you have started healing.
"Well, you know how there are many AUs you don't have to work on?", you asked, meaning that the two of you don't have to cause any more negativity in any of those AUs. Nightmare nodded, feeling relieved, that the pain slowly faded. His posture relaxed.
"Well, what if we direct their anger at the star Sanses, Ink in particular!", you said excitedly while smirking. Nightmare thought about what the exact plan was. He understood that directing anger and amplifying it is beneficial, but how would one do that? You noticed his slight confusion, smiling at the skeleton widely, almost menacingly. "To do that, you could just say that the Squid created their miserable lives! That he was the one responsible for all of their suffering and pitiful existence! Or you could supposedly rescue them, becoming their 'hero' if you will. That's how you get either loyalty or allies!", the spirit continued, healing a few bones here and there.
Nightmare smirked at the thought, his one eye glowing dangerously at the idea of having the additional power. The star Sanses would make such miserable faces when they realize that they had more problems than just the supposed destroyer and him!
The negative skeleton stared at your transparent figure, "You do realize that helping AUs would make me weaker. And treating underlings harshly would give me more negativity to feed on, but would also risk disloyalty and rebellion against their master. Their king. And last time I checked, neither of us can perform mind controlling or altering magic.", he argued back, trying to get over all the problems the plan had. Or he was still insistent on not listening to some ghost like you. One with amnesia at that.
The spirit smirked at this. "Are you dense or are you just playing with me? See this as equitation. If you manipulate them into rebelling against Ink, us growing from their malicious intent and growing anger directed at the squid in the meanwhile, they will become temporary soldiers to you, that will follow you. If you win the war, they will stay either neutral or loyal to you. If they get the idea that Ink isn't the one being the cause of their misery and existence, they will rebel against us for lying or the fact that we're the actual problem here.", you started explaining the possible faults in the plan. Nightmare nodded, looking at his healing rib cage, feeling the relief wash over him.
"But the other method ensures loyalty over immediate negative feelings and thoughts. By helping AUs out through deals, and requesting loyalty for whatever they need, you can ensure their loyalty. Yes, they might feel great and disgustingly positive about the situation, but with the additional backing and power, you can cause more negativity than before! So you have to consider what you lose and what you gain, you negative bag of bones!", you continued, explaining what you had in mind. Nightmare looked lost in thought, considering the options. He wasn't exactly bothered by that nickname or maybe even insult. After all, you never said you were nice and friendly towards each other.
That would be disgusting.
"So, we'll take over AUs and make them our territory?", he asked, smirking ever so slightly wider than usual. You nodded your head, chuckling at all the thoughts ravaging your mind.
Maybe Nightmare should've listened to you before. After all, this basic idea would surely give them the advantage in the upcoming war.
Right now, it was nothing but a little fight. But it would surely escalate sooner than later.
And he would need the upper hand.
Who knows, maybe he could even make an alliance with the destroyer.
They were known to destroy because it was fun to them, though rumors are often wrong or half of the truth.
Some even claimed them to be a black skeleton with terrifying eyes, while others said that he was some evil creature that crawled up from hell, destroying everything in its path. A demon or the devil himself, in simpler terms.
The rumors about Nightmare weren't much different, in all honesty.
The self-proclaimed king laid down on the bed comfortably, seeing the annoying spirit above him, smirking down at him with a few drops of HATE dripping from their eyes.
If he didn't know any better, he would say that the absolute annoyance was some kind of version of Chara. He was pretty sure, though, that that wasn't the case.
"Sleep well, future king of negativity and nightmares.", you said, looking down on the dark figure. Nightmare closed his eye and was ready to recharge his drained energy.
He had a lot of planning and action to do in the future. A plan to overthrow the multiverse and show everyone that he was, in fact, not what those demons called him.
He was much worse.

Y/N:
Holy sheesh. I don't know if I should be proud or not. The basic idea wasn't even half as good as the result.
I didn't exactly plan this like I normally do. I just went straight into this without much of a plan. Was this good? I think it was all right for my first few tries on one-shots. (I bet that older me will be very disappointed in me.)
And, yes, another one of those oneshots without any love. If this was an actual story, I would likely make a ship for Y/n, though the relationship with Nightmare would likely be like this in the beginning of the story.
Don't forget to comment, vote and follow if you enjoyed this! I would greatly appreciate it!
Check whether requests are still open when you read this and want me to write your idea down!
(Also, how did people find this book XD )
