MonsterMother!Reader x Sans

MonsterMother!reader x Sans requested by AnonIsReading

Also, while it does say Mother Reader, it's not specified in the chapter that you're female. So you can use any pronouns!!
I really just said mother, because the Request stated this. If it bothers people too much I will change it to parent reader.

TW: (poorly portrayed) panic attack
Trauma
suggesting child/monster death
Cursing/Cussing

There'll be a danger zone for the panic attack. I'll explain underneath what happened!

--------------------------

"*so, you want to introduce me to the human you have been taking care of? *and that's why you wanted me to take a day off?", the small skeleton next to you asked. You hummed in response, looking around, searching for anyone possibly following you two.

You've been taking care of a human child named Frisk ever since you met them, trembling in the forest, looking around frantically, as if searching for danger. They agreed to go with you, though and you've been taking care of them since. It's been a few months since then.

"*you should've probably told me sooner. *i thought you just wanted to hang out with me.", Sans continued looking at you. This caught you off guard.

Sans thought you wanted to hang out. With you. Do fun things with you. Just the two of you!

...

Or he took pity on you. Because most monsters didn't even know that you lived. Ever since the Queen disappeared you hid in the snowy forest, far away from Snowdin so nobody would find you. You supported the Queen's ideals of saving humans that come into the Underground and didn't want to take their souls to free monster kind. So you disappeared like her and hid somewhere in the underground. Or at least, you hoped the queen did as well and didn't die trying.

Sans knew that.

Hence you were a bit lonely. Only a bit though. You had Frisk after all. And Sans also accepted you. So, everything was fine.

But...

"I am worried about them, Sans.", you said to him, while hiding your tracks in the snow. "They keep having nightmares and they get worse. Not only that, but kids their age should socialize more and have fun with other kids."

"*so i'm a kid now?", Sans interrupted you while holding his chest, making him look hurt. What a comedian.

"I didn't say that.", you looked at the grinning skeleton. "Maybe your act would be more believable if you didn't grin all the time.", you remarked, looking Sans in the eye sockets. He stopped posing and hid his gloved hands in his pockets as you sighed, feeling a weight on your chest. "I wanted to introduce you first, since you wouldn't kill them on sight, unlike other monsters I know... or knew... It would be a healthy way for them to get used to monsters and other people."

Sans nodded in understanding, looking at his surroundings. It was his first time going to your home after all. You only talked to him when he was by his station. You two met when he was patrolling around the area you were in. His puns immediately warmed up to you. It was a funny meeting.

Hopefully Frisk would feel the same way. You told them that you would bring someone with you that day so that they could meet new people. They seemed very nervous at first, but they were determined about something. Maybe they wanted to make you happy? Or maybe they wanted to show you that they were able to meet new people?

It was cute.

"*i can see that you're not kidding about this. *hope they won't get spooked.", he punned. "That was horrible. Are you still half asleep?", you asked, somewhat concerned for your short friend.

...

'Friend' sounded so wrong...

"*is that your house there?", Sans asked while looking up ahead. "Sure is.", you nodded. The lights in Frisk's room were on. They were probably playing in there with themselves.

It's concerning how they haven't asked for a friend to play with yet.

But Sans is a punny person. They'd probably get along well.

"*looks nice.", the skeleton said as he looked at your home. "*i'll see ya up ahead.", he said, turning on his feet and walking away. "What do you mean?", you asked as you turned around, seeing Sans just walk further and further away. You gave him a questioning look. "MY HOUSE IS THIS WAY, SANS! ARE YOU BLIND??"

The skeleton turned around and waved you off, gesturing for you to continue towards your home. You stared at him for a moment. Was he ditching you? No, wait, it's probably another prank of his.

Deciding to play along you walked towards your house. Nothing happened the whole way there, which made the idea of sans ditching you even more believable. You stood before your house door, looking around for any signs of the skeleton.

No one.

What a prick.

You pulled your keys out to unlock the door. You groaned in frustration at the thought of that skeleton.

Like, seriously. That was a prick move. Maybe you should call him names next time to annoy the fuck out of him.

How about 'child'?

Wait, that's just mean. Pointing out his size like that would surely give you a hard time later. Especially since you didn't want to hurt him.

"*whatcha thinking 'bout?", a baritone voice asked. "You.", you bluntly replied not registering whom you were talking to.

...

But it soon did.

You turned your head towards Sans, cracking some bones unintentionally. Said skeleton stared at you with eyeholes, void of anything. You could feel your cheeks heating up, realizing how that sentence sounded.

Damn it.

Focus Y/n. Focus.

"H-How about we go inside?", you asked carefully, trying to change the subject. Sans hummed in response, his eye lights reappearing in his eye sockets. They quickly darted away though, probably feeling awkward about the situation.

You unlocked the door and welcomed Sans inside. Your home wasn't anything special. It had a living room, bathroom, kitchen, and 3 bedrooms. Originally it only had 1 bedroom, since you thought you would be alone for the rest of your life. Then you thought about taking in human children, hiding them from other monsters. It gave you enough motivation to make the house bigger.

"*it's pretty 'cool' in here.", Sans said as he looked around. You weren't sure if this was meant to be a pun, a compliment, or a remark stating that it was cold inside. Could he even feel the temperature?

You heard a little commotion coming from Frisk's room, pulling you away from your thoughts.

"*was that the human?", the skeleton beside you asked. "Yeah, they are in their room. You can leave your jacket and slippers here." "*pfft, what slippers?", he asked, while looking at you with a shit-eating grin. You looked at his feet, noticing the blue sneakers he wore. "*you slipped up, don't ya think?", he grinned.

You left him at the doorway, instead focusing your attention on Frisk. They normally always come once they hear you coming back from outside. They missed you after all. "*oh, come on. *don't ignore me like that."

Did you hear something? Nah, must be your imagination. Probably just the wind outside.

(This is the danger zone. Please skip this part if you're uncomfortable with panic attacks. It'll be over before you even know it!)

"Frisk?", you peeked inside their room, immediately noticing all the paints and paper on the floor. They were probably drawing before you came back. "Frisk? Where are you? I brought someone with me just as I said. They want to meet you.", you called out, looking around the room in search of them.

But there was nothing.

"He won't hurt you. I promise. I bet you'll be great friends as well.", you explained, hoping that Frisk would come out. You heard a little whimper from the bed's direction. You looked underneath and saw frisk hiding desperately from something.

... not from you right?
You would never hurt Frisk.
Did they perhaps have a nightmare again?

"Everything's all right, Frisk. I am here. Would you please come out?" You carefully extended your hand towards them, waiting for them to take it. Frisk seemingly looked towards your direction, debating whether to take your hand or not. They slowly reached out for your hand. You smiled at them.

"*is everything all right?", Sans asked from the doorway. Frisk flinched at the tone and pulled away backing into the bed's corner even further. The new voice probably scared them, you guessed.

You looked at Sans, who eyed the bed worriedly, his smile not leaving his face. You shook your head no in his direction, smiling at him. "How about you settle on the couch? We'll come to join you later.", you said, trying to get some alone time with Frisk to prepare them. This wasn't how you should treat guests, you were fully aware, but Frisk came first. They were a lot more important to you than the way to welcomed and treated Sans.

At the moment at least.

After all, his opinion somehow mattered to you.

Sans nodded in understanding, closing the door upon leaving. You looked back under the bed, seeing Frisk sobbing uncontrollably, trying to muffle the noises in their comfy sweater. They stared at the air before them with wide eyes. As if they were in danger. As if they were being hunted down. As if a horrible creature wanted to kill them.

"Frisk, listen to me. Everything's ok. You're all right. There is nothing that could hurt you.", you said, reaching your hand out again. Frisk eyed the hand, staring at it in horror. "...", the human mumbled, but not loud enough for you to understand. "Frisk, everything is ok. Come on. Take deep breaths with me-" "GET AWAY!", they suddenly yelled. It made your hand flinch away.

Frisk was genuinely scared of something, mistaking it for you. Or maybe it was you?
That couldn't be it, right?

"HE-He'll do it again. He'll do it again. And then I come back again and again and again and again and again and-", Frisk mumbled, gripping their hair tightly, pulling on it. You were at a loss. Frisk feared something and you didn't understand what.

"heheheHAHAHHAHAHA", they suddenly laughed, your hand flinching even further away. "I am just... pathetic. A dirty... I shouldn't have... I am a mistake... I-I made them suffer... And he's back... He-he'll... and again... and I come back... and again and again and again!", they continued.

You climbed underneath the bed, gripping onto Frisk's arm, stopping them from gripping their hair anymore. They looked at you with hatred and fear in their eyes. "Listen to me, Frisk. You are okay! You are fine! You are not a mistake. Calm down, so I can help you.", you tried getting through to them.

Your brain couldn't process the information given to it. It could only focus on your little Frisk. The little child you've been taking care of. The same little kid currently before you is sobbing and in pain.

Frisk stopped all movement and watched you carefully, looking for any kind of danger. You reached out for them, pulling them close to you. It calmed them down somehow. You stayed like that for a while, just taking in each other's presence.

(SAFE ZONE!!! Frisk had a panic attack up above, fearing something to the point of mistaking it for the reader. Or was it the reader? The reader is puzzled by this but can only focus on calming Frisk. (I feel so bad for making Frisk so unstable. You'll know why they're like this at some point in the chapter.))

Meanwhile Sans sat in the living room, looking around the place. You and the human were in that room for some time now and the yelling and loud cries of the child calmed down.

In all honesty, Sans was worried about the kid. No kid should feel the need to hide like that. No kid should even feel the need to be scared like that in the first place.
If the kid was even scared in the first place.

He sighed. He took this day off in hopes he could spend some time with you. You did say that he should take a day off because of something. It was so vague that Sans thought that it was meant to be a casual hangout. He could've gotten to know you better in that case.

But that wasn't the case. Not that he minded. He could get to know you this way as well.

Just not how he wished for it to be.

He even dressed up! Getting those annoying shoes on was very difficult. Especially since he never wore them besides when he needed to.

Which was rarely the case.

Regardless, you couldn't even spend time with him now? He couldn't tell you the awesome new jokes he's been practicing and making. It frustrated him.

But the kid's well-being came first.

Suddenly a door creaked open. Sans glanced at the door carefully, putting on a lazy smile on his face. He didn't want to scare the kid any more than it already was. The kid was hiding behind your legs, glancing at the skeleton carefully and wary. "Sorry for the wait. I hope this wasn't much trouble for you.", you asked the skeleton apologetically. Sans just shrugged it off, sitting on the couch.

"*it's all right", he answered. The kid flinched.

Damn, was he that scary?

Yes, he was a skeleton, but he wasn't taller than a child, he smiled all the time and he always joked. He wasn't scary.

The kid was probably just afraid since they didn't know what he was like. They just had to get to know each other.

"*hello there, kid. *i am sans. *sans the skeleton.", he grinned in the kid's direction, who stopped in their tracks, making you stop as well. "*it's nice to meet ya.", Sans continued, trying to seem trustworthy. You looked down at Frisk, who had been hiding behind you. "As you can see, there is no reason to be afraid. We can also kick him out if he starts being rude.", you joked, trying to lighten the mood. Frisk looked up at you, nodding their head after a while.

"*kick me out?", Sans asked with fake hurt. "Yup, so you better behave, right Frisk?", you asked, kneeling to be on Frisk's level. Said human eyed you for some time, debating whether to answer or not, eventually deciding against it, but nodding slightly. You smiled at Frisk happily.

The last few hours were pretty tiresome. Frisk seemed to have some deeply rooted trust issues. Or maybe they fear monsters a lot.

But that wouldn't make sense, they trusted you rather quickly.

You shouldn't think about that now.

Wait, was it even hours that passed?

"*so, what are we gonna do now?", Sans asked, looking you in the eyes. "How about we have some brunch?", you asked, looking at Frisk for confirmation. They nodded eagerly, probably being a lot hungrier than you first thought. "*yeah, sure.", Sans replied, sinking further into his seat.

With the confirmation from both, you went to the kitchen and brought some chocolate chip muffins you made yesterday, Frisk helping you. It was very 'sweet' of them to help you.

You settled at the table, Frisk scooting very close to you, while Sans sat at the other side of the table comfortably, eyeing Frisk with a sad look in his eyes. Not that you noticed. Frisk stared at Sans, looking at every move he did, sometimes gripping your arm in search of comfort or protection. You couldn't tell.

"Eat away! I made them yesterday evening, so they aren't warm anymore, but I can assure you that they are great!", you said, full of confidence. You loved baking for Frisk ever since you took them in. They loved anything that had chocolate in it, so they grew to love your baked goods.

Frisk grabbed 3 muffins after you gave the 'go!', seeing how they could only grab 3 at a time, and stuffed one into their mouth after unwrapping the paper around the sweet treat. Their posture noticeably loosened up at that. Your baking worked wonders.

It made you feel proud.

Sans took one as well, looking at the muffin before it disappeared from your sight. "*these are good." You stared at the skeleton for a couple of moments, processing what had happened. "D-Did you just eat it?", you asked while looking at Sans's empty hand. "*yeah. *i did say that they were good after all.", he deadpanned at you, grinning ever so slightly wider than usual. You looked at him with widened eyes, feeling confused and something else you couldn't describe. A light giggle sounded beside you.

You turned your head towards Frisk, who continued to giggle. It made your heart feel warm, a huge weight lifting from your chest as you started giggling as well. Somehow, Sans stayed immune to the infectious giggling and just stared at you two amused.

"*oh c'mon. *'m not a clown, you know? *I consider myself to be a comedian.", he joked lightly, taking another muffin from the many on the table. "Pfft- that was horrible. Do you need a wake-up call or something?", you asked the skeleton across the table. Sans just shrugged and winked playfully in response before his second muffin disappeared from sight. You stared at him again.

Frisk giggled more, seeing the funny interaction between you and the punny skeleton. You glance at the little human, seeing their cheerful posture. It made you smile.

You grabbed a few muffins yourself and began munching away on them. The others followed suit, eating the magical treats. Sans and you talked a bit about this and that, mostly about what's up in Snowdin and how the skeleton brothers were doing.

You didn't have any exciting stories after all.

Frisk just listened, which was a good thing. Not that they couldn't join in the conversation, but they are slowly getting used to other people, or monsters for that matter, around them. You didn't exactly know what the cause of their panic before was.

After all, you weren't aware of the RESETs and LOADs.
So, you wouldn't know how terrified Frisk was of Sans after their first attempt at a genocide run, in the end, RESET-ting after getting 'dunked on'.

You didn't know, and probably never will. At least Frisk healed a lot easier since they knew Sans from all the neutral and pacifist runs, they've been doing.

After eating all the muffins, the majority stomached by Frisk, you three settled in the comfy living room. You decided to spend the day with a few cards and board games so that Frisk could have fun while getting adjusted to another presence in the house.

It was your perfect plan! Frisk would surely loosen up a bit more when having fun!

You played some poker, either Sans or Frisk winning since the two of them had perfect poker faces. Sans with his stupid grin and Frisk with their unbothered and seemingly uninterested neutral face.

You even rose the stakes, feeling confident enough in your cards, saying you would make double the number of muffins you had presented that day the next time you three would hang out.

Needless to say, you lost.

After a few rounds of poker, you played some board games, enjoying your time. Curse your damned luck though. You barely won one game of the many you played.

But that didn't matter that much to you. After all, Frisk laughed and giggled a lot more than usual. Sans really was a great choice to bring along. He doesn't look threatening, he likes to joke around, he has a little brother, so he knows how to handle children, and he didn't have anything against humans.

It was perfect.

It was getting late in the Underground though, and Frisk had fallen asleep on the couch while watching a movie. It was one of those comedy movies for kids. It was around 8 p.m. at that time. Not too early and not too late. The perfect time for kids and even adults to sleep and energize.

You grabbed the little human and put them comfortably on their bed, tucking them underneath the warm sheets.

You sighed contently, feeling that the day was a success as you closed the door to Frisk's room as silently as possible. You walked back to the living room, seeing Sans look at you from his seat on the couch. He looked half asleep, and half awake himself, probably missing all his naps throughout the day. You smiled at him warmly, "Thanks for coming today, Sans.", you whispered as you plopped down on the couch beside him.

"*no problem. *I can understand why you like the kid so much.", he answered while smiling lazily. The movie noises played silently in the background, as you looked at the skeleton's features. "Say, what now? Will you be going home? I can show you the way back if you want me to.", you offered, as he looked into your eyes. Sans lightly laughed, while looking at you amused. "*seems i won't be kicked out. *i live another day." It earned a few quiet chuckles from you.

"*though i won't be needing your help to get home.", he said while standing up from the couch. He winked at your confused expression. After all, it was his first time coming here. "*i know a shortcut.", he said still winking playfully.

He said that phrase many times before. You never questioned his shortcuts since he worked as a sentry and probably knew his way around the woods near the road better than you. After all, you didn't want to be discovered.

But these were the parts in the woods that you knew best about. It was your home after all.

So, how did he already know the perfect shortcut home?

Was he trying to tell you that he wouldn't want to be any trouble for you in his way?

Was he just prideful?

Sans chuckled at your expression. "*what? *cat got your tongue?", he asked while motioning toward a wooden cat sculpture on a shelf. What? Of course, you'd pick up a few hobbies while staying alone for so long. And there was plenty of wood and material in the forest.

You were pretty proud of that one chess set you made.

Standing up, you eyed Sans unamused. "You sure had fun looking around.", you whispered, trying to make the serious and uninterested face Frisk would do whenever they found out about you doing something stupid. But we don't talk about that one fire in the kitchen you caused or that time you played with a ball in the house, knocking a vase over in the end.

You were really bored that day since Frisk was sleeping and you just couldn't.

In the end, you ended up waking them anyway.

And they weren't exactly happy about that. Nor about the broken vase.

But we don't talk about that.

"*don't make that face.", Sans said, his eyes pinpricks disappearing and his smile looking somewhat strained. "*the kid's face doesn't suit you that well.", his eye lights reappeared, looking at you somewhat amused and serious.

It made you giggle a bit. Yes, that face he made before looks creepy, but it wasn't the first time you saw it. "*i should probably leave. *papyrus gets antsy without his bedtime story.", he said, while gesturing towards the door with a lazy wink. "Yeah, are you sure that I shouldn't tag along?", you asked, concerned as you walked towards the entrance. "*nah, 's fine.", he said, as he put his shoes on, struggling with the laces for a few moments, eventually just tugging them inside the shoes to not bother him.

"But I insist. It's getting pretty dark, and I'd feel horrible if you didn't make it home.", you argued quietly. Sans sighed, looking you in your worried eyes. "*really, i can make it. *besides, I have a very convenient shortcut i can take. *don' worry, 'kay?", he tried reassuring you as you looked into his literally and metaphorically magical eyes.

"How believable do you think you are?", you asked while crossing your arms. Sans stood up straight looking at you from his position, putting his gloved hands into his jacket's pockets. "*very.", he answered winking and shrugging in the process. "Wrong.", you deadpanned. Sans chuckled lightly, "*see you around." Sans opened the door and disappeared with a somewhat loud 'ping', startling the heck out of you. You wouldn't be surprised if you lost a few HP from that move he just pulled.

You stared at the spot he was previously in, looking confused and surprised with a bit of shock as realization hit.

That was how he was almost always able to scare the HP out of you. He could just disappear and reappear somewhere else.

No, you didn't know that he could teleport before. He always made an effort to stay mysterious, probably waiting for such a moment to see your stupid reaction. Maybe he was lurking around the area, laughing at your dumbfounded expression.

But you were a bit tired after today. You closed the door, walking back to the couch. After all, you had your first guest in your house today and it was Sans no less.

... wait...

Wait wait wait WAIT WAIT WAIT!!! YOU JUST HAD SANS OVER FOR THE WHOLE DAY!!!!
Okay, wait, calm down, everything's fine, it was JUST Sans.
Shit, it really was Sans. And not JUST SANS!!
You had him over... What's so bad about that again?
Oh yeah right... you had feelings for him... at first, you brushed them off, dismissing the few thoughts that randomly wandered in your mind... but now?

Hopefully, he didn't notice anything in your behavior.
But you were probably too busy worrying about Frisk... so you didn't even notice what you actually did...

You yawned, feeling tired all of a sudden, even though your emotions and thoughts should make you restless. Give you a magic boost, similar to adrenaline for humans.

Who knows, maybe you won't be able to sleep for the next few hours.

What a pain.

But... imagine Sans feeling this way as well. The thought made you giggle. But it was only a thought. It couldn't be real.

...

Little did you know that Sans was internally panicking as well, sometimes messing up while reading his brother's bedtime story. After all, you invited him to your house. The very place you tried hiding. The place you always kept a secret.

Oh, in the name of Toby Fox, he was in love with you, wasn't he?

---------------------------------

A/N:

Finished! Damn, this is one hell of a mess. Yes, I didn't want to put love in the spotlight. After all, I believe that moments exactly like these make love so beautiful. Thanks for the Request by the way. Thinking of a good plot was somewhat hard, and to be honest, I am not very proud of this one. I mean, I tried...

Regardless I hope you enjoyed this one shot as well. Even though I wanted Frisk to slowly heal from the Trauma they experienced, I soon realized that it would complicate a few things. Especially your and Sans's relationship. Maybe this would be a good idea for a book. Who knows?

Feel free to give Feedback, comment whatever you want, and vote and follow as well! (But... why would you follow me? After all, I am pretty new to this and the ideas are pretty random. But feel free to nonetheless lol)

Also, who thought I'd make Sans panic in the chapter? Did it surprise you when it was Frisk having a panic attack instead?
(You can also ask questions about some unclear things)
