Iris ended up staying.
Maybe Sunny had nothing to do with it and it was just a ploy for Iris to get boys to flock to her side. If anything, Iris didn't need to use these tricks because they already flocked to her side. All she did was smile and everyone fawned over her.
Iris was the it girl. She was blonde with those green eyes that captivated anyone. Iris could get just about any boy to be with her and everyone would claim she bewitched him but in a good way. Never would anyone think she was ever in the wrong though.
When Sunny saw Iris in the locker room on their first day, both girls having physical education for their first period, she sighed. At least Iris was there.
Although Sunny didn't know the blonde girl, she wanted her around. They weren't friends nor were they acquaintances. They were just people who knew names and not faces. Strange because Sunny felt a longing for more than nothing.
"Can you show me to P28?" Sunny asked her sophomore friend.
"Yeah, I'm heading that way anyway, I can drop you off," her friend answered.
Sunny felt her anxiety settle as someone was there for her. Her friends were all in different classes and all she knew was that she had a set group to be with during PE. Sunny hadn't gone to orientation for the freshmen because her parents didn't want to take the twenty-minute drive across town.
Sunny's home was far from her school because she was able to catch the school bus. Her school was strange as it allowed anyone within bussing zones to attend it. If anything, Sunny was lucky that she didn't have to catch the city bus to get to school. Her anxiety about missing the school bus was already high that she didn't need the added stress.
"Thank you," Sunny said to the sophomore as the girl walked away.
"Take a card!" Sunny's teacher told her.
Sunny smiled at the overly cheery math teacher that was shorter and took a card from the deck she was holding. Sunny looked at it and her card had an ace on it.
"Now, find the corresponding table. It has to be at that table but where you sit at them doesn't matter," her teacher suddenly said.
Sunny simply nodded as she entered the cheery room. There was words of inspiration written all over and placed perfectly. Math equations filled the front of the room and class project sections filled the back. Sunny knew this teacher was going to be hard to get along with because Sunny herself wasn't always happy.
"Oh, finally someone I know! I didn't see anyone outside that I knew but I feel fine now that I know you're here," Iris said as she sat down at Sunny's table.
"Tell me about it," Sunny laughed.
As the students filtered in, Sunny and Iris watched. The girls didn't talk more than how tired they were of the barely started school day. Sunny didn't expect Iris to know her.
Sunny wasn't overly popular and most didn't know her name. Most hadn't ever seen her as she stuck to the same group of friends. Sunny wanted to use high school to branch out her friends but she would start slowly.
She'd start with Iris.
