Eren, Latina, drake lizzy, zane and everyone else in Levi's squad was heading to the Survey HQ, each of them riding their horse, except Grayson, hanji asked for his assistants because of his knowledge on titans

" fancy, yes.but absurdly impractical once The scouts got down to business, much much too far removed from either river or wall.this was the early days for us, you understand.Hope sword high, now this opulent bubble is a little more than a holding cell. the place where we store our newest toys." Eren turns his head too Latina and the gang, Zane looked bored to death with olou's speech, lizzy was just talking with Petra, Latina was just zoning, thinking about something, and drake was talking with Gunther

He turned away from the gang and looked behind him, to see Levi staring down at him. He instantly turned back around, a small sweat falling from his cheek "Do not be deceived, greenhorn." Oluo states, leaning closer to Eren, Latina looks over and slightly giggles in amusement

"Excuse me?"

"Don't be expecting the royal treatment.what are your Titan or human, don't imagine for a second we all share the good captains enthusi— " before he could finish his statement, His horse steps on a rock, causing it to jump a bit and make Oulo bite down his tongue, hard. Blood spills out as Eren leans away from him in shock

Few minutes later

The group is now at the HQ. Petra holds her hips as she scolds Oluo, "That's what you get for flapping your jowls on horseback."

" The Rockies needed to know their place. First impressions are important." Oluo adds " well you certainly made an impression on them. No question there ." Petra says

" indeed so but I'll exchange when exactly as planned" He states, " what,... Happened to you? You never used to talk like this.I mean is really none of my business, but if you're trying to act like a captain, it's kind of embarrassing. You and Levi Couldn't be less alike if you'd been born separate species."

He scoffs, looking up at her, " if you intend to hand me like a wife, Petra dear, there's rather more of me you need to be acquainted with before laying claim to the privilege." He said smugly " ha.you wish.I tell you to bite your tongue, but you've already got that covered.next time I hope you bleed out" she states harshly without pity for his injury

"Oh-ho-ho,Me thinks the lady doth protest too much," He says, Eren as he was attaching his horse to a pole with the rest of the gang, while looking over at the other scout members, Eren stands up and murmurs to drake "These people are the Survey Corp's Special-Ops Squad?"

He nods, grinning "Also known as The Levi Squad." He said, " since Grayson not here to do any introductions, I'll do it." Drake points behind him and starts explaining  "That's Petra Ral, her Solo Titans Kills: 10. Titan kills assists: 48."

Then points at oluo continues to point at the following people " That's Oluo Bozado, he's known apparently he imitates Levi a lot. His Sole Titans Kills: 39. Titan Kill assists: 9. Oh, and apparently from what I've gathered he likes to brag a lot about this kills"

he says " apparently? I think you mean does" zane grins, Eren just nods "From the looks of it, he looks like the type of person to brag things." Lizzy says unamused, still hugging her sister, who smiles sheepishly

"either way, They're elites beyond a doubt." The eren notice two other men walking together, drake as nudges Eren's arm, "next, That's Eld Jinn, he's the 2nd in command if Levi isn't around. Solo Titan Kills:14. Titan Kill assists: 32"

he said about the blond man, then points to the black-haired man

" and finally, Gunther Schultz, He has a total of 7 Titan kills and 40 assists. They're we're all elites that were hand-picked by captain Levi"

He nods and looks at the group, a sweat falling down his cheek.

Latina noticed and questions,"Hey? you alright?" He nods, "Yeah, it's just, if I go berserk, they'll be the ones to kill me." She rests a hand on his shoulder reassuringly " don't worry, your gonna be fine, you got us" she said which made him smile

From afar, Gunther places his arms across his chest, "Look at these weeds.this place has gone to hell." He states the obvious, "It's been abandoned for years." Eld shrugs, " bet the inside of shamble"

" which case we have a problem, don't we?." The two turn to see Levi, eyeing the place with disgust " Best grab a broom and get to work" One moment everyone was on the ground the next moment, Levi slams open some windows and changed into some cleaning cloths. And so, everyone's mission today was the clean the castle. Eren comes down from some stairs and announces to the captain "I am done with the upstairs, Sir. If, Uh— if I may ask, captain, Where will I be expected to sleep?" He asks, approaching him. Levi lowers his mask and states nonchalantly" you're sleeping quarters are in the cellar."

" The cellar? But, sir, again?" Eren slightly groans," I was safest option.your abilities are far from being under control.you might go tighten in your sleep one of the conditions of my having you in custody at all is that I keep you under strict security morning, noon, and night.while we're in dreamland, you're in restraints, that's the rule" Levi glances over Eren's shoulder and lets out a quick sigh,

"Check your work.take over here.I want it spotless"

"Yes sir." He watches him leave and lets out a huff, continuing to clean. Petra comes down from the stairs, brooming, 'till she spots Eren. She smiles, "Oh, eren. Try not to look so discouraged" He quickly shoots over, surprised

"sorry.I hope you Don't mind me calling you eren. Just the carpenters and, well, he pretty much sets the tone for the rest of us."She continues to smile at him,

" whatever. just that I, Uh...well...Did I really like discouraged, or were you  just saying that?" He asked " everyone react that way.up close and personal, captain Levi doesn't seem much like the hero he's coming up to be.for one thing he is a lot shorter.bit on the temperamental side, to not exactly imbued with what you'd call the social graces." She joked

  "It's not that.I am more put off by the seriousness.he is so dead Earnest about following the higher ups rules " Eren says, playing with his fingers a bit, "Let me guess don't you think strength means living by your own rules, than everyone else's?" Petra guesses, He pushes his body together " well, he didn't strike me as the type to take orders" he said "Time was he would've lived up to your expectations, that's what I understand anyway.I don't have the details.story goes he was quite the rouge before joining the scouts, A higher role in the Capitals black market."Petra explains, brooming the floor,

" how the hell did he— I mean...?" Eren questions. She shrugs "No clue. Folks talk, but who knows what really brought him here, right? The most popular version involves Erwin and Donna, they say they dragged him to the scouts are kicking in screaming"

"The Commanders?"

"whats going on?" Levi calls, coming down the stairs

"S-sir?!" He jumps as Petra acts like she wasn't slacking off, " your cleaning is lamentable, back upstairs now." Levi glared

Meanwhile somewhere

"We are 30 days out from expedition to set up a logistics base be on the wall.And now you're saying will have a crop of green recruits along for the ride?"Mike cocks a brow as Erwin was apparently making a map for the outside walls

"Assuming any sign up, yes." Erwin replies " not to be a naysayer, but doesn't that seem right to you? Obviously, what are their odds?" Mike asks " our custody of eren, violet and her crew is conditional on the results of the submission, right now the first order of business is persuading the brass we have them under control, that there an asset, not a threat, and last thing we want is for the military police to throw in their lot. or someone else"

" and you don't wanna give me a straight answer.is that it?" Erwin stops making coordinates and turns to Mike, who had his back turned away from him, "Your nose is and as sharp as ever, hah? Not bad." He raised an eyebrow with a grin, Mike sniffs, "Yeah, well.not as sharp as yours on a good day." Erwin gives him a small smile before going back to his map" You'll have the facts soon enough"

" technically isn't it Donna you have to get permission from?" Mike asked " she already said yes" Erwin answered " just like that?" Mike raised an eyebrow

" indeed" erwin said " i guess of all people she said yes to you, you still haven't told me how are you two met"Erwin thought for a moment about the day they first met, which wasn't what he expected

Flashback

The scouts were once again out side of wall rose, climbing the mountains, not too far from the walls, just then they heard the sounds of loud thuds " everyone stay alert" They climb down from the horses, and slowly making their way through the bushes " careful" Erwin whispered, just then a titans body fell, making the scouts Yelp, but stopped when they noticed the stream erupting from its nape, hanji inspected it, with Morblit by her side, she gasped

" it's been cut" she said " by who?" Morbilt questioned, just then there was a titan roar, not to far away " more titans!" Hanji exclaimed in excitement, charging forward " section commander! For the love of-" morbilt didn't finished and just jumped back on his horse, following the crazy woman, shadis gave the word

" all units forward!" The rest started following her, when they found her, she was hiding behind a giant boulder, observing what was happening in the open in front of her " hanji stop being reckless!" Shadis scoulded " but look!" She points out, gasped collected at what they saw, a field of titans, massacred titans that is, it what looked like a small village in ruins " what the hell?..." shadis whispered, past the mist they saw a titan fighting something, but because of the mist and how fast it was going they couldn't identify what it was, just as it was about to make a strike at the nape, the titans hand smacked them with such force it sent the, flying into one of the ruined homes, Erwin gasped, other members said

" what do we do?!" " do we attack?!" He spared no effort, and zipped off his horse onto one of the walls of a decked building " Erwin!" Shadis called out but he ignored him, just before the titan grabbed whatever it was after, he zipped towards the nape and sliced it, he saw a figure of a person which surprised him, lying unconsciously on the ground in the room,

the titans body was about to crash onto them, if he hadn't zipped over, grabbed the persons body and dragged it out with him, before the titans body crashed down, him and the unconscious body skid to a halt

Ignore the kiss, just the part where they crashed and skid on the ground

" Erwin!" Shadis along with hanji, morbilt rushed over, he moved the persons body upright so their head was lying against his shoulder " damn it Erwin! You almost got yourself-" Shadis stopped himself when he saw the body in his arms, a person in dark clothing with a hood " is this person responsible for?..." he looked towards the titans massacre

Erwin lifted the unconscious persons hood to reveal a woman, dark brown hair in a pony tail, cream skin and goggles over her eyes " a woman?!" Shadis exclaimed " titan incoming!" They looked towards one 15 meter titan charging towards them " braise yourself!" But all of a sudden the unconscious persons body moved " what the?!" Jumping and flipping upwards and lands onto one of the roof tops to everyone's surprise

Like this, it's close enough

Then, Hand pressed against the floor beneath her, pushing herself forward towards the beast " what the hell is she doing?! Is she mad?!" When she got the close, the titan swung its fist towards her, but missed when she flipped out of the way

then runs up the titans arm, when Erwin got a closer look, his eyes widened, out of the woman's wrists, blades shot out, she let out a battle cry and she sliced the titans nape, which howled, before it fell to the floor dead, it's impact made the whole ground shook, forming a giant dust cloud, the woman, who was slightly injured jumped to the rooftops, then collapsed against one of the rooftops, she looked up and noticed a certain mans presence in front of hers, Erwin

"....are ya gonna kill me?" She asked which surprised him " why would I kill you, you just saved us" he said

" all you people of the walls would call me a freak, everyone calls me that" she said lowering her head, which made him raise an eyebrow

" why are you out here by yourself, it's dangerous" he said " i'm dangerous, that's what I'm forever to be labelled as "

" by who?" Erwin asks, not to far, hanji, morbilt and Shadis launched onto the rooftop opposite the two, he stopped the two before they could launch onto the roof they were on

" everyone" was what the woman answered " they think it's okay just lock me up....do you what do ya want...kill me....I don't care anymore" he just sighed " I'm not gonna kill you, or lock you up " he kneeled down in front of her " not just by the look on your face, I can tell you've been through a lot" he then lent his hand out, with a soft smile " my names Erwin smith, what's your name" he asked, the woman was surprised, for the first time in so many years, someone was being nice to her " Donna blitz"

Flashback end

The moment the two met, changed his life, yet he didn't even realise it, until they grew closer

Meanwhile, Donna was working on some documents in her office, when all of a sudden, she let out a sneeze

Back at hq

It was now nightfall. Everyone was at the dining tables, drinking their drinks

Eren sat at the end of the table while Latina was sitting to the right of him. Drake next to Gunter, lizzy with Petra and sadly for him, Zane with oluo, Levi places his teacup down and looks up at the group, "It's safe to assume our standing orders will stretch into next week" Eld then adds in

" Word through the grapevine is we are gearing up for a big mission a month from now, one where a bunch of wet behind the ears graduates are slated to be our main backup"

"That can't be right.why do you something like that? The cadets have been through enough with the last Titan attack.why subjected to that kind of danger again?" Gunther tags in, "You have to wonder how many of those snivel job runs peed themselves." Oluo picks up his cup, taking a quick sip before replying, " surely this can't be the case"Petra turns to Levi

"Mission planning isn't my responsibility.but it is erwin's and Donna's, and you can bet that man is obsessed over every angle" he said"That's the truth.especially given how unique the situation is.considering how many people died on the path to taking back wall Maria, then Hope comes in the form no one expected, One that we are not even entirely sure how to deal with" Eld looks at Eren in the corner. Eren tenses up as everyone looks at him. He looks down at the table as Eld continues,

"Most of us still find it hard to believe.so how does it work? This whole changing into a titan trick. really?" A sweat forms on erens cheeks, He looks up and looks between all of them,

"Wish I could tell you, but the fact is my memory is not clear.guess it's kind of like being in a trance, I do know the trigger seems to be hurting myself in someway don't like biting my hand," He was then surprised at what he said ' wait.why do I know that, but nothing else?'

" you're not going to get anything out of him.apart from what the scribble is her mood out in the report" Levi says to everyone besides Eren and the others, who knew what had happen " and what about you kids? Nobody would have guessed humans with supernatural abilities would be possible" the others hang their heads low " the one person with the answers isn't here at the moment" drake said"Huh. Not that you know who would have a go at it," Levi takes a sip from his cup, " you be lucky to come out of it alive if that one lays into you. Course it's only a matter of time." Eren and the gang felt a slight bit of nervousness "Who're you talking about?"

BANG!

" Oww!" A female voice yelled The sound of someone hitting against the door causes everyone to jump, well, except for Levi " oh crap!" A familiar voice followed, The person whoever hit the door knocks on the it, making Petra shoot up and open it. There stood Hanji, rubbing her forehead, and Grayson standing behind her

"I'm so sorry.good evening, team Levi! How was Castle  life treating everyone" hanji chimmed

"You're too early," Levi states, drinking from his cup" Am I? S'pose I couldn't help myself." She said as she stepping with the blond boy, inside the dining hall,She then starts to approach eren and the gang, "Section commander Hanji?" He cocks an eyebrow "hello eren, Latina, drake, Zane and little lizzy! In the event you haven't pieced It together yet, it's my job to spearhead the scout regiments research efforts.essentially, I poke and prod captive titan specimens, I'd very much like your help." She smiled, Eren shifts in his seat

" our help? In What way...like, what would we have to do?" he asked nervously "Join me, of course! On a quest of scientific discovery!" Hanji replies quickly, playing with her fingers as she starts to fantasize. Eren sweats, scooting a bit away from her like the others

"Well,Uh... happy to help, except we're afraid it's not up to us .we're under close restriction by order of the higher-ups, you see." He explained while the group nodded

"Levi, whats on the docket for him and the gang tomorrow?" Hanji asked "Clearing out all the weeds." Levi answered " excellent, then! It's cinched" She turns back to Eren, grinning from ear to ear.

She kneels down to his level and holds his hand into hers" my friends, Tomorrow will be grand" she said in excitement to the group "Uh. Key...but, Uh So I'm clear, what exactly will we be eren He asked "hm ?" She raised her head up which he flinched" are you running experiments or something?" He asked

" idiot. Shut up" oluo muttered, "ah, I knew it. You possess a singularly curious mind, don't you?" At this, Levi and everyone else starts to get up, leaving only drake, Latina, eren, Grayson and hanji, As soon as she confirmed it was alright, hanji pulled her back on her seat and let go of Eren's hand, sitting across from sarah and beside Eren. Grayson sits next to drake " The hell of you been?" He asked, Grayson just grinned " commander hanji will explain" Hanji gets herself comfy on the seat and then explains

"Well, my Inquisitive friends, if you insist, why not lay it all on a table? I intend to get better acquainted with the Titans we lucked upon in trost" she said " As a scientist, naturally I started with the standard battery of tests we conduct on all such captures

Few either days or hours

Earlier that week...

"hello beautiful," hanji walked forward, with Grayson holding a notebook, Hanji smiles at the two chained up Titans in front of her. The first Titan was panting and wheezing, it looked like it wanted to eat everyone on the spot

. "First was an attempt at communication" Hanji takes a step forward to the Titan, still smiling " How're we feeling? do you have a name? Are you in pain?" As the Titan starts getting more active, the soldiers around her start to grow warily for her "Section commander, you're too close!" Morblit exclaimed, while Grayson took notes on the titans response, next Hanji approached the other Titan they captured.

She repeated the same steps from before, "hi there!," She leans a bit it forward, "lovely weather, dont ya think? Are You hungry?"

At that instance, the Titan goes to bite her, but Hanji moves away just in the nick of time, laughing like a madman, "Whoa. That was Close!"

"That's what I've been trying to tell you!" Morblit yelled "Sadly, my findings were consistent with all other past attempts, no communication with them seem possible" As Hanji goes to approach it again, it tries to bite her, she yelps backing back up "That said, my time is spent in intimate proximity to these creatures did indeed help me cope with the seriousness of day-to-day tasks

"Once upon a time, many centuries ago now, There lived a vicious tribe of cannibals.,"

Hanji starts, telling the story to each of the Titans, pacing back and forth,

"You may think I am speaking of your kind, but in fact, these cannibal were human. They would Maraud unwary travellers near the cave. The ruthlessness pilot did not discriminate between merchant and clergymen; high born or low.valuables were taking, flesh feasted upon." She stops pacing and faces the two Titans, makes two soldiers groan." we gotta go through this again? Her naming scheme is so weird" The first soldier whispered, " yeah.what'd She end up going with last time?" The second asks,

"It was Chicachironi and Albert." The first answered

"In the end, these cannibals subsisted on human meat for 25 years, give or take.historians suspect they killed somewhere around 500 people during that time.that's probably more victims than the two of you have gorged on, combined." Hanji smiles, " to their credit, though, they perfected the art of repairing flesh.steaks cut from hind quarter meet.leg meat diced and added to stew. belly fat grounded into parties and fried. Sausages made from blood clots and intestinal lining" As she progressively continues her story, soldiers tense up, She removes her glasses and places them on her head, leaning forward to them, "In fact.one might even suggest they further the culinary arts. in that respect they were distinct from you." She then points at the two Titans with glee,

"Alas, this tribe of gourmandising cannibals were caught and executed by the providence of a single mistake." At this, several soldiers start to throw up

"In that respect you aren't so dissimilar. You both underestimated your quarry's resourcefulness and wound up captured.victims of your own appetite" She then starts to take steps forward to them " in honour of the cannibal tribes notorious leader, I'm going to christen you beauties accordingly." She stops and points at the shortest Titan, "You'll be Sawney," She then points at the tallest Titan,

"you are Bean, no need to threat, though.we're not going to publicly disembowel you or burn you at the stake" She then does the most unthinkable thing she had down, she goes and holds Sawney's finger, "Pleasure to meet you, Sawney," She then does the same with Bean, "likewise, Bean. Let's be chums, huh?."

"That's how we came to name the seven meter titan, bean, and his green in four meter companion, sawney"

The next plan was to the cover the Titans up in a tent, to see how they react in the dark

"Next step involved sensory deprivation, denying them sunlight stop observing as we do that Titans are less active in the nocturnal hours, we may extrapolate From this experiment that the Sun is likely a key source of energy for them. Nevertheless we discovered a profound difference between the two".In the tent Sawney was in, Hanji was holding a lantern, giving him a warm smile,

"Well done, Sawney. see you in the morning, sweetdreams ya lug."

"Corroborating previous data, sawney grow notably sluggish after only an hourlack of sun" however in Grayson tent with bean, knees to his chest while the lantern sits beside him,

"wow! Someone certainly the night owl, hah, you're going to wear me out. ah well guess this is my first all nighter in the name of science" Grayson shrugged, looking at the watch"bean, however, still beamed three hours in"

" a Staggering find, believe me.they don't require food or water to survive.they possess vocal organs but have absolutely no need to breathe.the only thing the body is metabolise into energy is sunlight"Eren and Latina give each other quick glances before looking back at Hanji " every tighten may have a different threshold for some light withdrawal, so I have to be careful.don't want dying on me, you know? Several have passed on in Captivity owing to my ignorance, sad to say.2 in particular perished off decapitation when we asked for the struck a soft spot. poor devils.Chikatiloni and Albert, Their names were.such adorable, ear to ear smiles.what I did to them was terrible.it haunts me" Hanji sighs, looking down away from the two, Grayson patted her back"I mustn't let that happen again.I couldn't bear it."

Latina had her eyes furrowed, sympathy spread across her face, "Hanji..." But then, she stood up and grab both their shoulder, squishing them together as she exclaims,

"carrying on!," The two start to sweat furiously against each other, "physical contact with them was the next obvious step, because I simply had to know whether or not they experience pain as you or I!" The painful memory flashes in her eyes, remembering the blood spewing from the Titan's eyes. She was crying furiously in her memory as she had a spear stuck up in Bean's eye. One of her soldiers approaches her, trying to calm her down, "Woah! It isn't necessary for you to scream, section comma—!"

"I can't do this and not scream, Damn you! Look at him!He's an absolute agony!" She screams, pulling out the spear, "my poor Bean! I'm so sorry!. Hang in there!"

She then goes onto the next eye, stabbing it as she cries even more

Eren and the gang stared in shock, "It was the only way to learn if they had any weaknesses. apart from their napes, You see. I hated myself for it." She looks, Grayson Hadn't said a word, back in his memory when he stabbed Sawney in the heart, who the Titan was breathing heavy,

"Sawney. buddy?. I've skewered do you straight through the heart.does it not hurt, dear? Don't you feel that?" He smiled nervously "Sawney Was more, shall we say introverted than his counterpart.if he felt pain, he was unwilling to show it" he remembered Sawney making some noises, causing him to perk up "go on, Talk to me" Sawney goes to bite him, but he yelped and moves away"For the love of god! Grayson stand clear!" He then starts to laugh maniacally, "You almost got me that time, didn't cha, Sawney."

Hanji joined in the laughter

"You want your head chomped off?!"

Eren looks down from Hanji as she continues to explain"Sawney's Range of expression is, somewhat limited, I think the only thing is he knows to do his lunge and bite" she says

"Commander, all do respect..." The group look at Eren as Hanji hums, " but how can you be so lighthearted about them? You talk like that badly behaved pets.it's just—There is the single greatest threat to mankind has ever faced.they've nearly driven us to extinction" He looks up, " you're a scout, you know that.you've seen them in action countless times."

She turns her head away from him, nodding, " True.in fact, more than my fair share of friends have died in the jaws of a titan, right in front of me.when I first became a scout, I fought them out of pure, white-Hot hatred. But one day, I came to a realisation." In hanjis flashback, she was surprised as she had kicked a severed head of a titan " i'd kick the severed head Of a 3-meter titan out of spite. I's weight next to nothing but might as well been a feather"

Eren's attention grew as their mouths were once again parted.

She turns to the two and states,"In the realm of improbability, that fact would seem to rank fairly high, there, other strength argues against it.and such was the case with every titan. Contrary to the appearance of density and great mass, the severed limbs were light as treebark" She then turns to Eren, "I've been given to understand that when you transform, your titan body materialises as if out of thin air.it's so bizarre.in fact the only way I can think to describe it is to say their appearance stands In short contrast to their true substance" She pours the some cups of tea and hands it to them before turning away and pouring herself one,

"we've been fumbling around in the dark. our prime offensiveTactic based on content and fear.we need a fresh strategy, one guided by knowledge got a whole new way of looking at the enemy.of course it would be a complete waste of time.still, though nothing ventured, nothing gained"

They stare at her with astonishment,  Eren goes to grab his cup of tea and take a sip out of it,

'joining the scouts has been an eye-opener, shock after-shock' he thought, placing his cup down' and it's not just section commander hanji. Everyone here is a little off, it's like I wandered into a sanctuary of crackpot. but— there are striving for change.that's been the appeal of the scouts all along, right?' " commander hanji!"

The everyone's attention turn to his sudden outburst as Hanji raises a brow, "If you don't mind, I think I should hear about these experiments in greater detail."She flushes, never has someone ever wanted to know the experiments she's been doing, "What, really?" She asks surprised

"Yes! I want to know everything! If I'm going to help you tomorrow, Ill need it":Eren asserts, "Ah. Good point.well, I might have glossed over one or two important details.Right! Full disclosure, then! We might be here awhile" They just grin," Good."

" I ought to start from our first captured Titan.that was the birth of my first hypothesis, you see."

Next day

"Carried to its natural conclusion, though, the experiment yielded nothing of positive value, but listen to me rambling on! I'm sure you summarise all this from your training, They discovered this stuff, right?" Hanji kept talking and talking as the three weren't expecting it to be this long. Latina and drake had gradually fallen asleep on the table while Eren had bags under his eyes as he spoke tiredly,

"Yes, they did. Every last bit."
