The Good In Her Heart

(Spider-Man's POV)

Jumping out of my apartment window I attached a web to a building and swung around it, landing on it and wall running on it's side. I then jumped from that building onto the next, doing a frontal flip midair and then landing on the edge of the roof with my hands before pushing myself off the building, giving me a boost of speed.

That's when I passed the area I fought Mikasa in a while ago. I swung so low, passing some citizens and workers.

"Comin' through!"

"Looking good, Spidey!" A woman shouted.

"Hellooo Districts of the Walls!" I jumped on the back of a cart and then ran on its roof before jumping off and webbing two buildings and pulling myself for an extra speed and momentum boost.

"New suit! Same old me!"

I zipped myself past some buildings, making my way towards the Garrison HQ.
I wanted to find out who made that suit for Mikasa and try to stop them from making more. If I know my schemers well, I'd wager they are already creating and designing a new suit for her. Maybe even improving on the flaws of the predecessor while also adding new features to it.

I have to keep myself ready and assume all possibilities while also be focused and prepared.
Gladly I got myself some web shooters now which should give me stronger webs with a more accurate web discharge and longer range.

Arriving at the HQ I landed on a wall, above a window where I saw a group of soldiers discussing.
I overheard them talking with someone quite unfamiliar. Someone shady.

"The mission was a failure." Mikasa's voice was too obvious for me. I was pretty much used to her dead but sometimes sweet and beautiful voice after all the time we spent together. "The suit and gadgets you gave me did a pretty solid job. But he was way stronger than any of us anticipated."

"You assumed he is just a man with a conspicuous suit and cool moves that swings around the place. A daredevil with a knack to stop criminals. You were wrong and all the evidence that was gathered by the garrisons suggested so. But I guess you like to just jump head first into things rather than try to learn your opponent first." The individual said.

I peeked through just a little bit to see what that person looks like. And what I was able to see that he was an old man with grey hair, sporting a tuxedo along with a fedora with matching colors, that being black. He also held a cane in his hand. I would assume it's for walking, but from what I can see, he walked around the room just fine.

His voice was deeper than most and did give off this old and experienced vibe. Although I have never seen or heard of him before and he does look evil. Is he the same individual I overheard talk about all around the criminal underworld?

"Okay. He is evil."

"Let me ask you this, Mikasa. Are you great at multitasking?" The shady man asked.

"What?" Mikasa replied.

"Are you great; at multitasking?" He repeated, taking breaks in his sentences to make sure Mikasa heard him right.

"I suppose so. Why?" Mikasa looked so confused at that point. But I wasn't. I knew he's planning to make her do more than just fight.

"I'm going to make sure you learn how to grasp all the knowledge you need out of your opponents' fighting techniques while in the middle of combat. I want you to learn how to predict your enemies moves long before they do them and be prepared to act accordingly. That while also using your gadgets and trying not to get killed."

"All these tasks? Do you think that I am some form of a Taskmaster or something?" Mikasa asked, which got her a smirk from the individual.

"No. I do not think that." He answered.

"Good."

"I am pretty sure of it." He doubled down.

"What?"

"Taskmaster. I like it. Let's make it your codename." The evil mastermind stated "Anyway, I've seen what you're capable of. You know your way around a sword. And now you are very well aware of the ways to wield a firearm. These skills are easy to learn but difficult to master. With time I can make you the strongest soldier humanity has ever known."

"Even stronger than Captain Levi?" Connie jumped into the conversation, which makes me wonder why I didn't notice him there to begin with.

"Of that I am quite certain." The shady man replied. "Also Connie, I think I might have something for you too."

"What?!" Connie jumped off his chair from excitement. Literally. "What is it?!"

"You'll see once they get out transportation ready. Both of you are coming with me now. I have already started work on the new armor model for Mikasa. I'll call it 'TaskMaster' since I like that codename of yours. It's better than 'Spider Crusher', is it not?"

A garrison then walked inside the room and announced that the transport cart is ready.

"Right on cue." The shady man commented. "Now then. Shall we?"

Mikasa, Connie and him walked out of the room while leaving the rest of the squad inside.

"I really don't like that guy." Armin stated.

"I'm not really fond of him either. I really don't have the slightest of clues into what he's really scheming. But I'm sure that he's not here to just catch the Spider-Man."

"Speaking of catching, I'm gonna go catch some Zs." Jean said before heading out of the rooms. "See you guys in a few."

"Why is he so obsessed with Mikasa? He gives her all the good stuff and leaves us with nothing." Annie stated.

"Are you jealous?" Armin asked, getting a glare from her.

"I am not. It's just that he gives her everything and we don't. Why doesn't he give something to you for example? Or Reiner? Or Jean? And yes, or why not for me as well?"

"I'm not sure. But from what we can see he's giving something to Connie." Armin stated.

"All this thinking is making my stomach rumble. I'm gonna go and get myself some meat off the garrisons' table. Annie coming with?" Reiner asked.

"No."

"Okay, it's your loss. Armin?"

"Yea sure. I'm pretty hungry as well."

Annie was the only one who stayed in the room. And like the sneaky little spider I am, I snuck inside and just attached myself to the wall to see what she would do next.
She only sat there, arms crossed and doing nothing. It creeped me out. I decided to initiate a conversation.

"How are you doing, beautiful?" That last word seemed to catch her off guard so I used it for quips sake.

"W-What are you doing here?" She asked

"Who me? Nothing. Was just swinging by." I said as I jumped down and sat across from her.

She did seem somewhat feeling unease. I wanted to ask her what's wrong but I did get the feeling she does not want to talk about it.

"They want you dead." There you go! She said it herself.

"I'm kinda sure that's what they wanted, judging from the last time we fought. Also, wait wait wait! Did I just hear you being concerned about me? Aw that's sweet of you!"

"Don't kid yourse-... Alright, I have to admit you made me change my mind about some things, see this place from a different perspective. Today I decided to take a walk down the street while thinking about what you told me before. That's when I saw a bunch of kids playing around. They seemed happy and living life without any worries."

"It warmed your heart, didn't it?" I crossed my legs on the table.

"It... it did."

"And?"

"I think I get your point."

"Aha!"

"These people, they... they do have lives and bright futures ahead of them. It's not a sad place after all. I'd hate to see it go."

"See? This is where I come from. These people. These lives and bright futures. They need saving and it's my job to do so. Otherwise they'd all be in jeopardy. I'll ask you this. I have powers, and these people are in need, right? Why shouldn't I use my powers to help them and do an overall good thing?"

She stayed silent. Only looking down while having her arms crossed. She really was thinking about all this. Did I really bring my point across to her? To Annie of all people?

"I have powers. And I've made sure that the lives of the powerless is my responsibility. When I save lives and see the smiles on people's faces, them knowing that their lives, along with those of their friends and loved ones are no longer in danger, that brings me indescribable joy. Why don't you do your part and help me do the same? Or even go and do it on your own! Go see for yourself how much good you can bring into the world. It's a worthwhile thing. With all the hard work, pain and suffering, in the end it's all worth it."

I think my words really did get into her head. But she did remain silent and seated.

"I'll... I'll try." She said, referring to the helping people part.

We stayed silent for a while then. I said everything I had to say and she did so as well.

"Ernst Yurvall Diabolus." She spoke after getting her head up.

"Hm?"

"That's his name, If you didn't know already."

"Wow, Thanks!"

"You're welcome." She replied.

I really saw the look on her face and really felt bad for her. She really didn't want me to die, seeing who I am and what I do for these people. I did not expect Annie Leonhardt, of all people, to start caring about lives. I did feel bad for her and so I came up with a great idea.

I jumped up on the table and got my hand out for her to reach. The look on her face with the raised eyebrows was very telling that she's confused.

"Come. I want to show you something."

She gladly accepted and grabbed my hand, all that without saying a single word though. I could tell she was blushing.

To her surprise, I lifted her off her feet bridal style and jumped out of the window with her. By the time we exited the HQ it was already nighttime.

"Where are you taking me?!" She asked.

"Somewhere with a great view!"

I was still carrying her bridal style while leaping from one building to the next. But when the situation called for zipping and swinging I gave her the opportunity to wrap her arms around me from the back. That gave me the liberty to swing freely.

I swung as fast and spectacular as I could through the district, reaching the south side of the wall. There I started climbing the wall, and shortly after running on it to the top.

There, I let Annie go and both of us sat on the edge with feet dangling over the district. The moonlight glimmered everywhere.

"This spot is... beautiful." Annie stated. It warmed my heart to know she could feel such things and acknowledge the beauty of things.

"It is." I started to feel the sensation commonly known as 'Butterflies in my stomach'. And I had the feeling Annie felt it too.

"See this?" I asked pointing at the buildings and people walking down below and then moving it across each of our field of view. "This is the future. My responsibility is towards the safeguarding of that future."

"Then let me help." She said.

I looked at her with a smile invisible from under the mask. But that's when I saw the light in her eyes. She really wanted to do this. I was certain now that I have changed her for the better.

She then looked at me and said it again. This time with more enthusiasm.

"Okay then. It's settled. Once we deal with Ernst we will get you started on your superhero business."

"I'll join the garrison and help you from the inside as well!" She said.

That's when I remembered what my original goal was. That memory hit me like a fist from the colossal titan. I got up and looked at the horizon outside the wall.

"Is everything okay?" Annie asked as she got up to check on me.

"You know what? You'll be doing a greater deal to the world if you joined the scouts."

Annie stayed silent. I got the feeling she was confused.

"What's better than to make sure humanity is no longer bonded by the fear of titans and giant walls to protect them? What if you could help humanity conquer their greatest enemy and regain a land long lost from us? To avenge all those people who died in Shiganshina district at the hands of those damned titans..."

"You remind me of Eren Yeager right now."

Oh shit.

"Do I now?"

"Yea. He had that same idea of yours. He wanted to rid the world of the titans while also freeing us of these walls."

"Then I guess him and I were not so different after all."

"Yes. You two are very similar. I guess you would have made great friends with one another."

"We sure would've."

"By the way" Annie said, snapping me out.

"Hm?"

"Nice suit."

"You like it?"

"Y... yes." She trailed off.

"Maybe if you decided to become a crime-fighting vigilante like myself, I'd make you one." The glimmer in her eyes when I said that was never more apparent.

"Really?" She asked with enthusiasm. Like a child getting a new toy.

"Sure. But first get through the training corps and then come find me. I'll make a great heroine out of you."

We then sat back down and discussed all about the training corps and the evil schemes of Ernst.

I got the feeling Annie was really into this superhero gig. I don't know whether it is for me or because of me. Either way I'm glad I got her on my side. She could help me deal with Diabolus and get through to Mikasa.

She's a lot nicer than she looks.

I like her.
