Ending The Feud
Hello everyone! Don't forget to vote and tell me what you think in the comments! Much appreciated!
(Spider-Man's POV)
It was time to end this.
I made my way to the headquarters in the Trost district area and wanted to look for Mikasa and confront her.
My mind was racing. So Ernst tipped off Hannes, and then started this death squad to hunt me down. He made me the scapegoat for my own murder and if he succeeds in killing me, he'll be able to create an army of technologically enhanced soldiers to further his gains and schemes. It was time I stop him for good.
"I need to talk to Mikasa Ackerman." I said to one of the garrisons that I trust.
"She's here, Spider-Man. In the meeting room."
I made my way there and opened the door extremely casually and closed it behind me.
Once she saw me she pulled out her sword and was ready to attack.
"I have come here to tell you about Eren Jaeger." I stated. She sheathed her sword and listened.
"Talk."
"I have a strong belief on who framed me for the murder of Eren Jaeger."
"And who is it?"
"It's Ernst. He did it."
"What?" She said, raising an eyebrow.
"I found his clothes on the ground bloodied and webbed them up for the garrisons to find. But then I was framed. How utterly disappointed I am in your military's lack of... brains, to be honest."
"And why do you think that he would frame you?" Mikasa asked.
"Look at you." I said, pointing at her armor.
"You're a technologically augmented soldier capable of doing wonders. Nothing but layers upon layers of metal separates your flesh from the outside world. You lost touch with this world after Eren's death and that's what Ernst needs. Soulless merciless super soldiers, following his orders to the letter. He made you into a merciless hunter, Springer into a lighting bolt, Wagner into a flying freak and what next, huh? If you managed to kill me, what stops him from proving his task force is a great idea and establish you as his own puppets, swayed and controlled by every word he says? What makes you think he would not turn other soldiers into killing machines and makes his Death Squad, no scratch that, Death Army and then no one can tell what happens next?!"
She took a second to reflect on my words. She took a moment to take a gander at herself. All she saw was an armor, owned by a freak who wants nothing but domination and money. An armor that had war written all over it. And she knew it. She understood what I said.
"Would Eren want this? No. In fact I believe he would spit in your face if he was still here."
"No!" She exclaimed. "This would never have happened should he have stayed alive!"
I got a great idea. I'll use Ernst tactic against him.
I'll frame him for my murder!
"Oh yea? What if he was the one to murder your beloved childhood friend? What would you do then? It's obvious. A young soul who had her friend killed would be easily swayed into becoming a machine of mindless murder and manslaughter just so she can have a taste of revenge. And who's better to blame than the superhero swinging around, saving lives and stopping criminals?"
Mikasa stayed silent. She only gazed at me. She was processing my words and really putting thought into them. She was beginning to understand, hopefully. Who knew that all we needed to do was talk?
"All he needed, was to give you that little push..."
"What about the others?" She asked, her voice cracking. She was on the verge of tears. She believes, or is starting to believe, that she got played by her friend's killer into doing his deeds for him.
"What drives them, huh? Is it Eren? Or is it something else?" Her voice cracking even more.
"Have you bothered to ask them?" She was taken back by that question. "Did you even take at least a minute of your time and ask each and every one of them what drives them? No? Because you believe that you're the only one who has troubles and desires. Well, I'm afraid to tell you that you're wrong. Now tell me... where's Ernst?"
"I... I don't know... he'll be here... shortly."
She sat back down on her chair and placed her head in her arms. She was desperately trying not to shed a tear.
I really felt all of this weighing me down. Ernst's schemes, the other cadets... but nothing like Mikasa. And seeing her cry... it just shattered my soul.
I slowly walked towards her and placed a hand on her shoulder. She knew that I was there but did not say a thing.
"I can't empathize with your situation, but... I do believe Eren would want you to go back into training, graduate, join the survey corps and realize his dream of a titan-free world."
"I don't... want to live without him!" She cried.
"I know... and neither would he want that. But we both know that... this is how this cruel world goes."
I made my way to the open window, intending on swinging out of it. I didn't want to leave her in her state. But we both knew I had a job to do.
"I'll never be able to avenge him!!" She cried. "He died... all because I didn't stay by his side... and now... I'll never be whole again..."
I looked at her and knew that I am breaking her even more than she's already broken. But all of that was for the greater good.
"Maybe you're right. You can't change the past but you can shape the future. From this point forward do what you think is best. And do right by everyone. It's all any of us can..."
I stepped on the edge of the window, ready to leave. I was starting to cry myself.
"Even when it hurts like hell..."
I jumped out of the window, not looking back. I knew that she was already having doubts about me killing myself.
Man that was a weird phrase.
I swung all the way to the stable area where I had hitched my horse. I had already brought my civilian clothes with my before I left to go to the training camp. If anyone knew where I could Find Erst's lab, it's Shadis. And I was planning on making him talk by all the means at hand.
Arriving late at night to the training camp, I decided to try and head inside unnoticed. I hitched my horse somewhere outside and used the shadows to my advantage once again.
I snuck through the camp undetected. Trainees were on patrol for some reason but what can they really do against a wall crawling, silent running, web spinning badass that is sneaking all over the place.
I easily and effortlessly made my way into Keith's office and awaited him there. At the time I snuck in he usually was here doing something. Probably to do with paperwork and stuff.
And as expected, he showed up and sat at his desk and did paperwork.
I webbed the door to make sure no one can distract us and then I jumped down.
"What's up, Keith? Sending your trainees to hunt me down huh?"
When he saw me he nearly fell off his chair.
"What are you doing here?!" He yelled. His voice still strikes my ears like a hammer.
"Ouch! That really hurt! Can you shut up and listen for a second?" I shot a web at his mouth. Shutting him up before I jumped on his desk.
"What came into your head that you sent your trainees that have a zero combat experience, inside the district, to take down a superhuman individual and expect them to win?!" I removed the web off his mouth.
"Argh! I will-" I cut him off by webbing his hands to the chair.
"Thank whoever you believe in that I don't take lives, otherwise I would have killed your cadets the first time I saw them. I suggest you talk now because I'm not feeling myself lately." I wasn't going to kill him. It was just a threat.
"You are a menace to humanity! You deserve to be put down!" He exclaimed.
"Who me? I'm the menace?! Says the former commander with... how many casualties were there under your command again?"
That really hit him hard. He didn't speak afterwards until I finished.
"See? And how many lives did I save? Can you count them? Can I myself count them? No! Wanna know why? Because I saved countless lives!"
"I got word that you injured Connie and left him nearly dead." He stated calmly, still in shock by my previous statements.
"Oh don't kid yourself. We both know Connie did that to himself. Me more than you, but still. We both know Connie zapped himself after trying to summon lightning with most of his armor destroyed. And wasn't it you who sent them after me in the first place?" I exclaimed.
"You are a danger to the peace and tranquility of the walls. Plus you killed Eren Jaeger. A former cadet that was training under my wing!"
"Let me make this clear to you so you don't have to speak BS next time something comes out of your mouth." I grabbed him by the collar. "First, am I seriously the one that's a danger to the peace and tranquility?! By stopping criminals and putting an end to lots and lots of crimes in the district? Or is it the death squad you sent after me that will try to kill me by any means necessary, with reckless abandon and with no care in mind as to whom they injure or kill in the process?! Do you realize that I had to save all the garrisons that were in the headquarters when whomever the idiot was ordered the cannons to fire at the base, while Mikasa and I plus dozens of soldiers that were inside and outside the place, and would clearly have been severely injured by the debris?!
That's first.
Second, I do NOT take lives! It was YOU who kicked out Eren Jaeger from the cadet corps! If you were not that harsh on him that day he might still be here, learning how to kill titans so he can secure a better future for humanity!
Third, you don't even care who's training under your wing. Otherwise you wouldn't have sent your cadets after me. And especially would NOT have made a maniac make them suits of war in order to make them even more of a danger to everyone who's in their vicinity!"
Keith... clearly in shock by my outburst just gawked at me.
"I have seen this rage before... in someone I regret letting go..."
I took my mask off to confirm his suspicion. His eyes got opened even wider and his jaw was sent falling to the floor as he sucked the entire air out of the room with a single gasp.
"Yes... I am alive... most importantly, I am Spider-Man."
"Why... why didn't you tell anybody?!" He exclaimed.
"If my identity wasn't so much of a big deal, I wouldn't have kept it hidden under a mask. You sent people after me. The entire garrisons was after me as well. If my identity was not a secret I would have put a lot of people in danger. That is why I kept it a secret. But I want you to know so you could see all the damage you have done. Imagine if Mikasa succeeded in killing me. Imagine the horror she'd experience when she finds out that the person she killed was the same person she was trying to avenge. Every time we fought. Every wound I hade to tend to and every tear in my suit... nothing hurt me more than the fact I could not tell her. And when I realized that it was you of all people to send her after me, I was gonna snap. I brought a gun with me, intending on shooting you right between the eyes. Thank goodness I kept myself in check. And I didn't do it for you. I did it for Mikasa. Now tell me... WHERE IS ERNST YURVASS DIABOLUS?!"
"His base isn't far from here. I'll give you a map."
Before I exited his office he stopped me.
"Eren. I am sorry. If only I knew earlier. Your secret is safe with me. No one will know."
"Not even her, understand?"
"I do. Good luck."
