Behind Enemy Lines

(Spider-Man's POV)

"Help!" I heard someone scream. It was the voice of an old man and he didn't seem pretty fond of the situation he's in.

I quickly leapt into action and witnessed someone who was indeed an old man hanging from the roof of his house. Below him was a broken ladder that, even if placed again under him, cannot even reach him.

I swept in, swung through the air and grabbed the man from the waist and slowly and carefully placed him on solid ground.

"Are you alright, sir?" I asked. "That was quite the height."

"Yes, yes. I'm fine. The only thing I have to worry about now is pigeon poop on my roof, now that this old ladder is worthless." He said.

"Yea well the important thing is that you're safe and sound. I don't believe that cleaning pigeon feces is worth risking your life." I stated.

I looked at him and rather than seeing the tired eyes of an old man, I saw passion, excitement and most of all a great boost of energy.

"Nuff said, Nuff said. Thanks Spider-Man. Not just for saving my life, but for inspiring me and giving me new ideas!" He said.

"Uuh... and you mean..."

"I'm a professional writer, son! For years I've been suffering from writer's block. But thanks to you I've been given new inspiration!
I'll make a novel that talks about the journey of the masked hero." He said, driven by excitement and a burst of energy.
"A book I'll title: The Amazing Spider-Man."

"Uuh yea. Thanks. I'll be sure to swing by and check it out. I didn't get your name sir." I said.

"Stan. Call me Stan." He replied.

"Sure thing Stan! See you around!" I said as I swung away.

As I was swinging around I was thinking that the sudden attacks from Mika's team are getting more and more frequent. If they can attack at any time they please, they must have established a base of operations somewhere around this district.

The military HQ wouldn't be a bad guess since it easily provides all the equipments, training grounds and sleeping bunkers they need.
From there, they can always retreat at any time, resupply and then redeploy any time they please.

I decided it's best if I swing by and try to sneak myself in and learn anything useful. Maybe find out what they're planning and what's their next move.
Swinging by the base I find them still trying to repair the damage that was caused from my battle with Mikasa and whatever the heck happened back then.
From what I could tell they were done rebuilding most of the place and only had a couple of rooms left.

I've noticed that in recent times the garrisons attack on me have declined in numbers. Possibly due to them realizing that I am not a threat but a helping hand in maintaining the peace and safety of the people but Mikasa's team is only focused on hunting me down and unlike the garrisons, their number of attacks have increased.

I spotted an open window that leads into a big room. I jumped through the window and web-zipped myself up to the ceiling.
I took a glance at the room and realized that it's a meeting room of some sorts.

Inside the room was a big, detailed map of the district with red circles around areas that I assume are the areas I have been spotted and areas with spider logos inside circles are the areas that Mikasa's team and I have fought each other. I was definitely sure of my second guess because I could easily remember and identify all the locations with the circled spider logos as locations we definitely fought each other. How could I forget locations where none other than Mikasa tried to kill me in?

But then I noticed something weird. On the table was a newspaper that someone may have brought it to a meeting as evidence or a clue of some sort. I grabbed the newspaper and read it and was horrified to read the following.

Spider-Man committed a murder?

Yesterday morning what seemed to be discarded clothes were found stuck to a wall in an alleyway in south Trost district. The clothes seemed to have been webbed up by none other than the vigilante known as Spider-Man. The clothing items consisted of a shredded shirt that was riddled with blood and a pair of pants that suffered the same treatment. The witness who found the bloodied ensemble claimed that the scent of blood was fresh and whoever disposed of the clothes left a trail of blood leading away from the scene with the trail leading to no body. The reasons that compelled the vigilante to dispose of the clothes away from the body is unknown and as of now the military police is conducting an investigation in the trost area. This incident leaves a question to be asked: Is Spider-Man a murderer?

"Now that's what this is all about!" I said to myself. "But isn't it obvious that these could be my own bloodied clothes and I discarded them to switch to my suit? Or it could be possible that they are deliberately ignorant to try and frame me for something I did not do and give me a bad reputation, thus giving a negative perception to people and affecting my public opinion."

The article is old at this point. But someone kept it with them. And I believe I know who did.

I jumped out of the window and started crawling around the outside of the HQ looking for the room that has my clothes.
As I was looking I overheard two guards chatting and patrolling the base and what they were talking about was very interesting.

"So what are those trainees doing here all the time?" One asked.

"They're trying to catch the Spider-Man." The other replied.

"What? And how are they supposed to do that? I mean we are fully trained garrisons and they're just trainees. Remember that one time where we got him cornered in our base and he easily bested us all? Every single one of us! I mean garrisons left their posts to try and stop this guy and none of us did!"

Yea I wouldn't say that about Mikasa and her team. They sure are something else.

"But do you know what happened after that? The raven haired girl who was very close to the murder victim and who I think is the leader of their group fought him to a standstill inside the base. And I heard they even had a fight of attrition where the spider guy barely came out on top." The other said.

"Yea I know that. And after all that you said, he came out and made sure we evacuated the base before it's eventual collapse."

"Do you think he is a cold blooded killer like everyone says?"

"I don't know man, but I won't judge until I see with my own eyes."

"Well we do have this evidence right here in HQ, inside that room." He said, pointing to a nearby room "And the press heavily suggest that that was murder."

"I'm not sure man. But lemme tell you something. He saved my life back there. And yours. And our buddies. And I'm grateful."

"Yea man same here."

"Good to know I have fans in the garrison." I said to myself before continuing my search.
"And they helped so here's that."

I ceiling-crawled my way to the room and entered it while still crawling on the ceiling.
Inside that room was tons and tons of files for crimes and evidence. As I was looking around my gaze landed on a plastic bag that contained shredded clothes. I webbed it from the ceiling and pulled it to me and started inspecting the clothes it contained and turns out they are indeed my clothes and the smell was unbearable. I immediately placed the clothes back into the bag and threw it back on the table.

But one thing caught my eye was the fact that the clothes were shredded in places that I didn't even get injured in. As if someone deliberately tampered with the evidence.
And I do remember where I got attacked since the pain of knife slashes are hard to forget.

"Ugh why the hell did I do that?" I asked myself as I crawled my way towards a nearby window and jumped out.

I searched the entire base for them and did not find a single member of the team. Which could mean that they have returned back to the "training dump" as I'd like to call it. Because I feel that it kind of is in a way.

My mind was conflicted. I was stuck between either revealing my identity to Mikasa and make them stop attacking me, but that would get me into lots of trouble with Mikasa and the law and everything else. Or on the other hand, I could keep my identity a secret and avoid any risks but I'll have to continue suffering from getting attacked every once in a while and pushing my luck even further.

I'll go with the second option because let's face it, in the end it's the better one.

As I was swinging near the wall gate I noticed a cart that had a broken wheel. Three men were down on ground level trying to fix it but the wheel is broken beyond repair. I descended down to them to see if I can help.

"Hey fellas!" I said. "Need help?"

"Oh hey Spidey! We are moving a shipment when this damn wheel decided it's a good time to break! And we don't have any spares!" One guy said.

"Ok just wait here I'll go to the cart shop on the other side of town and bring you one. Be back in a minute!" I said before swinging away to the cart shop.

Once I arrive there I met the shop owner.

"Hello sir!" I said to the man who was surprised to see me.

"Oh hey Spider-Man! Anything I can help with?" I asked.

"Well yea. Do you have any spare shipment cart wheels? A cart broke down near the gates and I need one ASAP." I stated.

"Oh sure! Anything for you buddy!" He said.

"Really? I mean thanks!"

"No thank you! You saved my daughter from the burning building a while ago! I can't thank you enough! This wheel is on the house!" He said.

"Thanks again!" I said before swinging away.

"Any time!" He said as he waved at me.

I returned to the cart driver and helped him win the wheel.

"You're pretty strong!" The owner complimented.

"I work out a lot." I replied. "Where's this shipment headed, and what is it that you're delivering?"

"Delivering a new batch of 3dmg steam. Their supplies are running low with all the training they're doing." He stated.

"Oh yea? Mind if I tag along?" I asked.

"Really? What for?"

"Well I need to get to the training areas and smooth things over with the guys in charge there. I don't wanna stay on their wanted list and get jumped every other day." I stated.

"I do owe you for helping us with the wheel and all. Hop in!"

I entered the cart and had some friendly chat with the delivery crew while heading there. My intentions weren't quite as I stated them, I wanted to see who's in charge of Mikasa's crew and who's overseeing the coordinated attacks.

I need to find out who's the one giving the green light on these operations and why.
I don't believe the orders are coming from whoever's in charge at trost district because of that was the case I would have garrisons on my ass and not Mikasa and her gang of misfits

The shipment isn't due to arrive until nighttime due to the wheel incident which had happened long before I helped fix the issue.

I decided to tell the crew of what I truly aim to do and surprisingly they were pretty understanding. We decided that once they nearly arrive I'll hide under the cart and sneak my way under the cloak of darkness. They would not be involved in my escape plan despite them strongly wanting to help.

And after everything was sorted out with the crew all I had to do was wait and hope I don't get caught.
