I've just recently realized that I have this opinion and I felt like sharing it with the world. Even if, the world doesn't care!

There's a form of fanfiction called AU which stands for Alternate Universe! This will be more focused on modern AUs which takes place in a different setting with a different story line, but the same characters. Now, I usually feel like these are a waste of opportunity and potential. LET ME EXPLAIN WHY!

To me what makes the story your own is not your characters' personalities, but the world and special talents that you give the characters! Now, for realistic fiction it's a different story, but that's a whole other can of worms that I don't want to open up (mostly because those particular worms are disgusting and also because HOLY SHIT THEY'RE ALIVE!). Attack On Titan has a beautifully crafted world! This world gives these characters amazing powers and abilities which is what makes them Isayama's, in my opinion.

If you took away Eren's titan abilities and took him out of the world, what would he be? He wouldn't have anything to live for anymore and no real place in the world. He wanted to join the military in AOT and then he wanted to kill all the titans because they killed his mother. In a modern AU, titans don't exist though, so his mother never gets killed and he doesn't have anything to do. Congratulations! You have succeeded in making Eren the stereotypical douche bag! JK JK! Eren's got some character depth that he can keep besides having all these awesome titan powers.

Mikasa isn't extremely affected because everything that happens to her could still happen in modern times. The only thing that I think could really affect her is taking away her Ackerman ability. Also, by the way, I haven't read the manga and I've only seen the anime so I don't actually know what the Ackerman ability is, so if it has something to do with titans and something that wouldn't belong in the modern world, then she wouldn't be the amazingly strong Mikasa we know now.

Armin can still stay except that his grandfather wouldn't have died when he did in Armin's life because he originally died from titans. He could still be bullied and he could still be saved by Eren and Mikasa, but if he doesn't join the military then how does he get stronger? Let's face it. Armin has gotten emotionally and physically stronger through the years and the episodes, thought he obviously isn't the strongest. If I was being very honest, then I have to say that he is the most like myself with a clever mind and not extremely physically fit. We've both got blue eyes, but I'm not blonde.

Whenever I'm reading AUs I can't help but think that they've basically written their own story but made it nonpunishable by saying that it was a fanfic and not using their own characters. The characters are usually so OOC that they could be their own characters if you didn't give them a name and changed their appearance a little bit.

These are just some of the reasons why I will probably never write an AOT AU because I think that why the heck am I writing this about these people? Why not write this about my own people? I mean, I have to describe these characters and make my own world anyways unlike my other ones where I just take the characters and world because I don't feel like introducing all those characters, so why aren't I doing that now but with my own original idea?

You know what's funny? I used to dislike fanfiction very much because I thought that if people wanted to write something then they should just write their own stories like I did back then. I actually have several of my own stories written I just don't want to publish them because I don't want people to take my work and then I'd have to get it copyrighted and I just... don't want to go through the trouble.

Also people just out of the blue here, when you're trailing off, why do most people on here only us TWO dots instead of THREE? It's really annoying and I can never overlook it so please! For example:

Then he... he... HE STABBED HER!

They don't have to be in bold I just did that to make it stand out. IT'S FREAKING THREE AND NOT FREAKING TWO.
