Depressed Levi x Reader: Can't Lose You
~Levi~
The news played in my mind over and over again. I had been cheated on. By my wife whom I loved dearly. She had been cheating on me with my best friend Erwin. I was humiliated. How could I not know this was happening? How could I miss the signs? The late nights, the weird 'business' trips and not to mention she was always on her phone.
I felt like an idiot for not knowing. The only thing left now for me was to leave here and go back to my hometown and file a divorce. I packed up my car with all my belongings and drove off without looking back.
I lived in a small town in the state of Maine. My grandparents offered me a place to stay after I told them the news. I was to be living in my grandparents' house. They kept the place for rent and have been meaning to sell it but no one has come by to take it.
It was a three-day drive back to the small town of Freeport. The house was located outside of the town right along the shore with the perfect view of the ocean. I drive through the forested area seeing the mansion and the ocean in sight. It was a cloudy day but the ocean still looked beautiful. I park in the driveway. I was greeted by my grandmother and a girl. The girl was oddly familiar. "Hello dear!" my grandmother said as she kissed my cheek.
"Hi, grandma," I say as I hug her. I look around to see that the house was secluded, none of the neighbors could see me since the trees blocked their view. Perfect, I'd get some privacy out here.
~(Y/N)~
Levi walked up and hugged his grandmother. I hope he remembers me. It's only been what? 5 years? I was staying in the second unit right in front of his house that had a garage for both me and him with an in-law apartment right above. I was also helping with the yard work around the place and making sure everything was clean. Levi looked around before meeting my gaze.
His dark blue piercing eyes made my heart race just like in high school. I guess you could say I had a schoolgirl crush on him, but who wouldn't? He was incredibly handsome, smart and kind. I wonder what brought him back? Did something happen with Petra? "Hello..." he says. He seemed to have trouble remembering my name.
"(Y/N)... we went to school together... I'm also living in your second unit." I say pointing in the direction.
He looks back while rubbing the back of his head. "Oh, well lovely, I'll be sure to visit," he says. He turns back to his overly packed car.
"Would you like some help?" I ask.
"...Sure," he says with a weak smile.
I walk over to his car and start caring the boxes out and into the house. I look up for a split second. It looks like it's going to rain... we better hurry then. I quickly walk inside and place the box down on the floor in the sunroom then go back out to get more. It's a good thing his grandmother supplied him with furniture otherwise he'd have to have a lot more help getting his own furniture in. I stood there in the kitchen and watched as he brought in the last box before it started pouring rain.
"Well I'll be right up the road if you need me, my number is here if you need to call me," I say placing down the stick note. I begin to walk to the door when Levi caught my arm.
"Stay, it doesn't look like the weather is going to let up anytime soon, and I don't want you catching a cold," he says.
"Okay," I say. I go over to the living room and turn on the fireplace. He ran up to his room and didn't come down for quite some time. I began to worry.
"Levi?" I call. I get up and make my way to the stairs. I slowly walk up hearing whimpers. I walk through the small hallway seeing his door was closed. I go to open it but find it locked.
"Levi? Are you okay?" I ask.
"Y-yeah... I'm fine," he says.
"O-okay... well, I'm gonna get going," I say.
"Okay," he answers softly but just loud enough for me to hear. I nod and turn back and begin leaving.
~Levi~
It was silent again meaning it was the perfect time for me to go back to crying. I hadn't cried in so long that my eyes burned. I held the pillow up to my mouth muffling my small cries. I miss Petra, I miss New York... why did this happen to me? Was I not enough? Did I not satisfy Petra? I laid there in bed for hours trying to come up with the answer to these unanswered questions when I noticed it was getting darker. Maybe I should get something to eat.
I slowly climb out of bed and unbutton my shirt. I make my way downstairs and to the kitchen. I look down to see another hall containing a guest bed, bathroom, and office then a couple of doors one leading to the basement and a couple of closets. A lot of doors for one hallway.
I go over to the kitchen and make myself a small dinner. I could see the garage from the window above the sink. And above the garage was the inlaw apartment. The light was still on. I look at the clock seeing it was almost midnight. What is she doing up still? I grab my food and sit at the table. I quietly eat while listening to the rain hit the windows.
~ A Few Weeks Later~
It had been a few weeks since moving back and I haven't heard from Petra or my grandmother. I hadn't gone looking around the town. I was cooped up in the house suffering from depression. It was going to take a while to get over this. I had unpacked all my things the week before. (Y/N) would show up every day to give me my mail and ask if I was doing okay. I always answered saying I was fine but really I wasn't.
Today it was raining yet again. I was in the kitchen making lunch when I hear a knock at my door. I put the plate down and walk overseeing (Y/N) through the glass. She smiled and waved. I open the door. Her hair was wet but she still wore a smile. "Here is your mail... how are you doing today?" she asks.
"Not all that well... why don't you come inside and dry off," I say. She nods and steps in. I walk into the bathroom and grab a towel for her hair.
"So what's wrong?" she asks.
"Sit, I'll make you something and tell you," I say.
She quietly takes off her coat and hangs it up on the rack while I stood in the kitchen making her a sandwich. I walk over and set the plate in front of her while I sit across from her and watch her eat. "Petra and I are getting a divorce," I say blatantly
"I'm so sorry," she says putting her food down.
"Thank you... but really it's for the best... because she cheated on me," I add.
"What? Why? Who would want to cheat on you!" she says in complete shock. She clasped her hands over her mouth regretting what she said.
"The truth is, I haven't been fine these past few weeks... I've been depressed, to be honest." I tell her.
"Why not go out? Walk around see some old friends?" she asks.
"Because then I'd get annoyed with hearing the 'sorry's' and having to say I'm okay," I answer.
"Okay, how bout this, we can go out for a little while, away from town and just hang out and not think about Petra or the divorce." (Y/N) suggested.
I sigh. "Alright fine," I say. She smiles which made my heart race a little. She stood up and made her way to the kitchen to dispose of the leftover food on her plate then cleaned the plate. I get on my coat and grab hers to handoff.
We walk over to my car and get in. She decided to drive this time since she knew a place. We drove away from the town finding ourselves in an open field. The sun peeked out of the clouds brightening up the surroundings. She got out of the car and took my hand leading me into the wet grassy field until we made it under a tree. "So this is the place you wanted to show me?" I ask.
"Yeah, this is where I used to come in high school whenever I was really stressed or needed a getaway to study or something," she says as she sits on the ground. I join her by her side and sit there silently taking in the view. The air was fresh and sweet. I look over to see (Y/N) looking out in the distance.
"So what did you do after high school?" I ask.
"I went to college but dropped out and started doing yard work for the elderly then I needed a place to stay and your grandmother offered me the inlaw and had me help around the house," she answers.
"So you haven't had any boyfriends since?" I ask.
"A few but they all turned out to be douche bags, so I just decided to stop and just be alone for a while... so it's just me and my cat right now," she says.
"I see," I answer.
The sky began to grow dark again and the rain began to fall once again. We both get up and run to my car. We drove back home after our little afternoon of catch up. She came inside and dried off once again. "You can stay the night, I don't want you walking in the dark by yourself," I say.
"Okay," she answers.
She made her way to the guest bedroom. I had almost forgotten that she knew this place like the back of her hand. I decide to make an early dinner for us while she changed into some clothes I got out for her. She came back into the dining room with a flushed face making her look absolutely adorable. I hadn't realized how much smaller she was compared to me. She walked over and sat at the table quietly.
After dinner, she went into her room and closed the door leaving me in the silence. I sigh and finish cleaning the dishes. I make my way upstairs to my bedroom where I took a quick shower and brushed my teeth. I walk into my room with my shirt off where I was greeted by someone in my bed. It was (Y/N) hugging a pillow. "What are you doing here?" I ask.
"There was a spider... like a really big spider," she says.
I sigh and walk alongside the bed and get in next to her. "Alright, I'll be sure to kill it in the morning," I say.
I turn off the light and lay there on my back. I couldn't quite fall asleep so I just laid there watching (Y/N), that was until she scooted closer to me. Her head laid on my chest while her arm wrapped around my waist. I sigh and close my eyes and fall asleep.
~Month Later~
~(Y/N)~
It had been a month since Levi arrived back here, we've gotten much closer and he seemed to be feeling much better than before. Tonight we were invited to a birthday party of one of Levi's grandmother's friends. They always through big formal parties. I had my dress picked out for the occasion. My feelings for Levi had sparked once again just like in high school but I knew that I'd still wouldn't have a chance considering he's still getting over his divorce with Petra.
I walk over to his door and knock. He came wearing a smile on his face. He seemed happy to see me. "Here is your mail, you seem happy today," I say.
"I am, the divorce has been finalized," he says.
"Oh, well congrats I guess," I say.
"Would you like to come in?" he asks.
I stood there contemplating whether or not I should. "Oh... It's okay... I-I have some work to do until later tonight so... maybe another day." I say.
"I see... pity I would have enjoyed the company," he says with a smirk.
I gulp about to reconsider. He went to close the door but I stop it with my foot. "I'll stay... but only for a little while," I say. His eyes brighten up as he opens the door wider letting me walk in. He closes the door behind me and his arms wrap around my waist unexpectedly. It made my heart pound so hard my chest began to hurt. I stay silent and let him hug me from behind. At least he's moving on... he should at least let me know when he wants to hug me.
My thoughts were cut off when I noticed his arms were missing. I look to see he was smirking. "Want anything to eat?" he asks as he walks past me.
"No, it's fine I'll grab something later," I say.
He let out a 'tch' then went into the kitchen grabbing out a package of ramen noodles. "Aren't you going to eat?" I ask.
"Already did sit and I'll bring you your food shortly," he says.
"O-okay," I say as I sit in the chair in front of me. He brought over the bowl of ramen noodles and sat it in front of me. He handed me a fork and I begin to eat while he watches me intently.
After finishing my food we sat and talked for a little while before I headed back home. I enter finding my cat sitting in front of the door. "Hey (C/N)." I greet as I pick (him/her) up. I went to the kitchen and set the cat down by their food. I look out the window seeing Levi outside taking the trash out. After doing so he looked up toward the window I was looking out. I smile and wave before watching him go back inside. God, I love him. I go into my room seeing the dress and shoes laid out on the bed. It was a midnight blue long dress. It was perfect, I had never worn it so I was glad to be going to this party so I could finally wear it.
I look to see that I still had a lot of time before the dance. I decide to go around and clean the house hoping the time would go by fast. When I finished I found it was only an hour later. I sigh and flop down on the couch. Maybe I should try on the dress to make sure it still fits. I get up and run to my room and undress then slip into the dress on the bed. I zip it up in the back and go to the mirror to see it fit like a glove. I nod in approval and take the dress off. I change back into my regular clothes and go outside for a little walk up and down the road. As I was walking I see a baby deer staring at me.
I stop and watch it as its mother comes to its side before they both run off further into the forest. I continue my walk until I hit the end of the road. I turned around and started heading back. How much longer? I enter the door once again I see my bedroom door open. I walk over to see Levi in there looking at my dress I quickly go and grab it and put it in my closet. "I didn't know you were coming by," I say standing in front of my closet. Silent he walked over and propped his elbow on the closet door. He stared down at me intently. My heart began to pound again.
"I have a key you know, besides you left the door unlocked," he says as he leans back away from me.
"Oh... oops," I say.
"Anyway, was that your dress for tonight?" he asks.
"Uh... one of them... I-I haven't chosen one yet." I lie.
"I see... Well, I'm sure that you will look lovely in whatever you choose," he says keeping his gaze away from me.
"T-thank you." I stutter.
I place my hand over my pounding heart. He looks over almost concerned. "Is something wrong?" he asks.
"W-what? N-no I'm fine." I say behind a fake laugh.
"I see... well do you want to come over for dinner before we head out to the party?" he asks.
"That would be nice," I say. He extends his hand out to me inviting me to take it. I, of course, take it. His grip was gentle as he pulled me closer to him. We walk out of the apartment and over to his house. It was already getting dark. I walk in seeing that he had the plates set out and candles lit. Is this like a date or something? He never does this when I'm over for dinner. I look back at him seeing his lips form a smile. I look forward and begin walking into the dining room where I sat myself down. Levi brought over the plate of food and dished it out onto my plate before doing his own.
"This is lovely Levi, thank you," I say.
"You're welcome," he says before taking a sip of his wine. I take a sip of mine then start eating quietly. We had a light conversation while we ate.
After we ate he took me back to the inlaw apartment. He took me up to the door and we stood there for a moment. "Well, I'll see you there I guess," he says while rubbing the back of his head.
"Yeah, well... see you soon I guess," I say. Next thing I know his lips press against my cheek softly. His hands held my forearms gently making sure I wasn't able to move back. After he pulled back he wore a smirk.
"See you soon," he says. I put on a smile and wave him off then rush inside. It was almost seven meaning I had an hour to get ready. I go to the bathroom and curl my (h/l) (h/c) hair. When I was satisfied with my curls I begin doing my makeup, I keep it simple to save myself the trouble of cleaning it off later. I check the clock seeing I had fifteen minutes. Just enough time to get my dress on. I run into my bedroom and get my dress on. I slip into it just like before then get a necklace and earring on. I grab my heels and run out to my car. I slip on my shoes and turn on my car and drive away. It was a good thing the people hosting this party didn't live too far.
I arrived just a little after eight. I park my car and brush myself off and clean off all the cat hair I had. I get out of the car and make my way inside the rather large house. I walk down the grand step they had seeing Levi staring up at me. I smile and continue down the steps.
~Levi~
I look up to see (Y/N) and boy did she look stunning as ever. She stopped and smiled at me before continuing her descent. She walked up to me and stopped. I take her hand and kiss her knuckles. "You look absolutely beautiful," I tell her. Her face turned a light shade of red.
"Thank you," she says.
I lock her arm with mine as we walk over to my grandmother. "Hello Levi," she greets. She looked over at (Y/N).
"(Y/N) you look stunning, I didn't know you two were dating," she says pointing at us.
"Uh, grandmother we're not dating," I tell her.
My grandmother laughed. "My bad dear, go dance go on!" she shoos.
I take (Y/N)'s hand and lead her out to the dance floor. I stood there and wrapped my right arm around her waist. "Just a warning, I am a horrible dancer," she says.
"Don't worry, I got you," I say as we both start swaying slowly to the music.
~(Y/N)~
I look down at my feet making sure I didn't step on him by accident. He placed his pointer finger under my chin he lightly pushed up making me look at him. "Eyes on me," he says.
"But I don't want to step on you," I say. He takes his hand out from under my chin and resumes its position on my back.
"You won't," he says. We danced for most of the party until I started to feel dizzy. I ended up going out to the back to the garden by myself. I heard footsteps behind me stop. I slightly turn to see it was Levi. He seemed concerned.
"A lot has changed... it's not like it used to be back in high school." I say as I look off.
"Yeah," he answers.
"Levi... I'm leaving." I say blatantly.
"What?" he asks.
"In a few days... I'm leaving... I was offered a job in the state of Washington and I took it." I say as I turn to him.
"But why? You love Maine?" he asks.
"There isn't anything here for me, my friends have all gone away, I don't have any family here anymore so why stay?... I just need a new start." I say.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" he asks.
"I didn't know how... I didn't want you getting all depressed again... but I also didn't want to leave without saying goodbye." I say.
He walks closer to me taking my face into his hands. I take his hands off my face and hold them into my hands. "I'm gonna go... goodnight Levi," I say. I get on my tiptoes and kiss his cheek before walking past him. I felt my heart tear into two. I get into my car and drive home with tears blurring my vision. Luckily I made it home safely. Crying now I make my way up the stairs and open the door. I take off my dress and rip off the necklace not caring if I had broken it. I go into my room and change into my pajamas. That night I cried myself to sleep for the first time in a long time.
~Levi~
I arrive home seeing (Y/N)'s lights turned off. Why does all this shit have to happen to me? I had fallen in love with her and yet she's slipping out of my grasp. I walk through the door slamming it behind me. Angry I started throwing things while trying to fight back the tears. I love her. And I'll never have the chance to tell her... unless I go over there and tell her. No... she's sleeping. I wipe away the tears that fell from my eyes. I loosen my tie and go upstairs to change into my pajamas. That night I cried myself to sleep, it was happening all over again... I was losing the people I love.
~ A Few Days Later~
I heard a beeping down as if a truck was backing up. I sit up and look around. I then get up and go to the window to my left finding a moving truck outside the inlaw apartment and (Y/N) with her cat in the cat carrier. I quickly get some shoes on and run out. I have to tell her. I run up the road only for her car to drive away. "Dammit!" I yell. The truck left moments later. I stood there in the road feeling abandoned. I get in my car and follow her to the airport. I get out of my car and run to her catching her arm. She turns partly so I was facing her side. She wiped tears away.
"Don't go, you have people here, you have me," I tell her.
She looked at me with wide eyes and tears building up. "Levi... it's too late," she says.
"No, it's not, there is still a chance, you can come back home with me," I tell her.
"So I can do yard work?" she asks.
"No, so I can wake up seeing you every morning, so I can kiss you and tell you how much I love you, so I can hold your hand in public... things may not have gone right with Petra but I think that because it didn't work between me and her, it led me to you," I say as I take her hand in mine.
She stood there shocked seeming lost for words. "I love you (Y/N) and I don't want to lose you," I say.
"I-...I love you too...Levi." she says as she looks to the ground. I place my hand under her chin making her look up at me. I press my lips against hers as my arms snake around her waist pulling her in closer, deepening the kiss. Her arms wrap around my neck pulling her up a bit. She pulled away and smiled at me.
"Took you long enough." she giggled. I couldn't help but smile like an idiot. I took her home and she called the people who took her belongings and canceled it. She would be getting her stuff back soon. I told her that she could come live with me instead of the in-law, so we could be closer. That night instead of crying I held (Y/N) in my arms as we fell into a deep sleep.
