Chef Levi x Reader: An Unlikely 'Pear'

~Levi~

It was a quiet day at Midnight Shrine Diner. After many years of training in the art of food, I became a chef of my own diner with young cooks wanting to learn from me. I wasn't all that popular at the moment, but there were days it'd be busy.

As my other cooks prepared the breakfast meals for our few customers I peer over their shoulder keeping check. Taking the spoon from Eren I have a taste of the sauce. "More salt," I tell him.

"Right away chef," he says quickly adding a dash of salt. Stepping over to the next I check their work finding it adequate. I was about to check on Erwin who had been washing dishes when I heard the front door ding. Turning away from him I make my way out of the kitchen and out into the dining area.

My hostess was running late, therefore, I would step in. A young girl who seemed to be in her early to mid-twenties stepped up to the station. "Good morning Miss, table for one?" I ask.

Smiling she nodded. "Yes please," she says.

My eyes scan her outfit quickly, she looked like a businesswoman by what she wore, it suited her body perfectly. "Right this way," I say extending my arm out towards the dining area.

Leading her to a table I sat her next to the window by the kitchen door, giving me the best view of her. Setting her menu I watch her sit and lay her purse beside her. "I am Chef Levi, and I'll be your waiter for today," I inform her.

Smiling she nodded once before picking up her menu. Walking off I decided to bus some tables. I waited for her to turn to me or at least put her menu down so I could go over and ask her what she would like to order. Oddly I felt the need to talk to her more, I wanted to get to know her, befriend her at least.

The second she placed down her menu I was on my feet quickly darting for her table. Until I was sidetracked by an elder woman. She needed assistance back to her table from the bathroom. "Thank you, young man, you're very kind," she says in her raspy tone.

Smiling I quickly refill her water, then set the water on an empty table as I rush back to the girl's table. "Ready to order Miss?" I ask.

She smiled again before nodding. "Yes, I would like your Omurice with black tea as my drink," she order. For some reason I felt happy with her order, it was my favorite dish along with a cup of tea. Smiling I quickly jot it down although I knew the recipe by heart.

I took off for the kitchen and set up my station to make the woman her food. As I began throwing things together I noticed I didn't hear the usual clanking of dishes being used. It was completely silent. Turning my head away from my pan I look to find all of my cooks staring at me with wide eyes.

"What the hell are you staring at?" I ask in a grouchy tone.

They quickly averted their gaze and went back to work. I finished making the woman her food making sure it was the best Omurice I had made. Exiting the kitchen I carry the tray over to her table along with her tea and the kettle for refills.

Setting the tray on the table I take the plate and cup off, setting it before her she thanked me and smiled. Taking the tray I begin walking away when I stop. This is probably the only chance I'll get to talk to her...she does seem rather lonely. Turning back I watch her start eating.

Setting my tray on top of Eren's who had been walking by I turn and walk back to her table. Folding my hands over my stomach I bend over slightly. "Uh... Miss." I call.

Turning her head she smiled gently. "Yes?" she asks.

Scratching the back of my head with my left hand I turn my head slightly to the side, staring at the chair in front of her. "I couldn't help but notice... you seemed rather lonesome... I was wondering if I could sit and maybe talk with you?" I ask. I waited for her to reject me, to say that she was fine, to find some excuse for me not to sit with her.

"That would be nice," she says.

But... "Please sit," she says extending her hand out in the direction of the other chair. Smiling down at her I quickly took the chair opposite from her. The beginning was a little odd but eventually, we started talking more and getting to know one another. I had never found any of my previous customers as interesting at this girl. I must know her name.

Unfortunately, she finished her meal all too soon in my opinion. "Ah, look at the time, I should get to work," she says as she stands from the table. After paying her bill she also left a large tip.

"Thank you for the meal and the chat... it really was lovely," she says with a bright smile.

Nodding I stand up from the seat. "You're welcome, please come again Miss..." I hold out the end hoping to catch her name. She continued to smile before she handed me a business card.

"Names (Y/N)... I'll see you tomorrow Levi," she says. Turning away she made her way out of the diner. Tomorrow.

I watched her exit the diner and walk across the street. I suddenly became excited for tomorrow. I quickly went back to work, shoving the card into my back pocket.

As days passed by, the girl made my diner a daily stop allowing me to talk with her more and get to know her. I too noticed she had begun ordering smaller things, cheaper things. But for three days now, she hadn't shown up.

Bussing a table I looked up to the window hoping to catch her walking by. But nothing, I had really begun liking (Y/N) and out of nowhere she just disappeared.

After a week of not seeing her, I decided to call her. At home, I pull my phone out of my pocket and the card. Dialing her number I had an idea. "Hello?" I hear her sweet voice answer.

"Hey, (Y/N)... how are you?" I ask.

"Oh, Levi hello, I'm fine, sorry I couldn't see you... I was sick," she says.

~(Y/N)~

I quickly turn to Petra with a panicked expression. "I'm glad, look... I was wondering if you'd like to go to dinner tonight... if you're feeling up to it and not busy." Levi asks.

Smiling to myself I turn away again. "Yes... I would love to." I answer.

I heard him sigh on the other end before chuckling softly. "Good, I'll pick you up... I'll make you the best meal you've ever had," he says.

Finishing the call quickly I text Levi Petra's address instead of my own. "Petra... he's coming here to get me." I tell her.

Turning from her closet she looked at me a little disappointed. "Why? Thought you said you'd be able to have him come to your place-

"Petra, the second he finds out he's gonna cancel... I really like this guy, he doesn't seem like the type to like poor people-

"So, you're lacking money, with your new job you'll start being able to save up-

I placed my hands on my hips and gave her a slight glare. "This job doesn't pay as much as my last one... I shouldn't have moved into such an expensive city." I sigh as I sit on her bed.

"You will have money soon, in the meantime just continue borrowing my clothes, it's fine. Just don't lie to him," she suggests.

Suddenly I felt more nervous than ever. The day seemed to go by horribly slow, by the time Levi said he'd come to get me I stood out front in the dress Petra lent me watching as his expensive-looking car pull up.

Watching him get out he was dressed in a nicely fitted suit. Walking down the step I made my way over to him. He took my hand in his and smiled down at me. "You look beautiful," he mutters.

My face immediately grew warm after hearing his compliment. "Thank you," I whisper.

Walking around to the passenger side I quickly get in. The car ride was rather silent as Levi drove us to his diner.

As we entered the diner all the tables except one was put away. The only table out had a candlelit in the center with a single rose in a small vase. "Go ahead and sit, I'll go grab the first course," he says whispers.

Darting my head I smile shyly. First course? Oh no. Quickly walking over I go and sit in the seat closet. Watching as Levi brought out a tray I sat there nervously.

Revealing the lobster I mentally gasped. Lobster was very expensive. He must have seen my reaction, as I darted my eyes up he seemed a little concerned. "Do you not like lobster?" he asks.

I quickly smile and shook my head. "I've never tried it... it's too expensive." I answer, muttering the last part. He smiled and began taking it apart for me.

"It's very good, here," he says giving me a piece of the tail. I picked at a little slowly eating it hoping he'd forget the other courses. As the minutes passed by we were both started to feel uncomfortable.

"Are you not hungry?" Levi asks.

Smiling I nodded as I began eating a little more. "I'll go get the second course," he says as he sets his napkin on the table. Smiling I didn't stop him, I wanted to enjoy his company and forget about how much everything cost.

By the end of the date, Levi walked me out of the diner while I sifted through my pockets for loose change. I wanted to help pay for tonight's dinner but didn't have much to offer. As we came to his car I quickly turn to him holding out my hand filled with two dollars and a couple of quarters. "For tonight... it's not much but it should help pay." I quickly say.

He looked at me confused. "It's alright, tonight was my treat," he says.

I jerked my hands forward, I felt bad he spent so much on me. "Really... take it, you spent quite a lot on me for our first date it's the least I can do." I say.

He pushed my hands back gently. "Even if I accepted, it wouldn't be enough," he says.

"I can give you more when I get paid-

"No- That's not- I don't want your money... I've got it covered- Is that... you weren't sick were you?" he asks.

I quickly look down and nod my head. "I didn't have the money to come in this week... I really did want to see you but... I'm tight on money... and the house you came to is really my friend's- and this dress." I say pulling at the skirt.

He seemed to feel sorry for me. I hated being pitied, for it made me feel helpless. "Why didn't you just tell me?" he says with a sad smile.

Looking up I felt like I was going to cry. "I like you... and I felt like- like the moment you found out I... I was poor you'd just avoid me." I say softly. Levi quickly pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly.

"I don't care if you're lacking money... I wouldn't care if you lived in a box or in a mansion, I like you for you," he confesses. Holding me for a while longer I let out a relieved sigh.

"If you'd like I can offer you a job here, I pay very well and can have you as a hostess." he offers.

Smiling I push myself back and nod. "I'll think about it... sorry to drop that on you... I didn't mean to spoil tonight." I say wiping my wet face. Shaking his head he pressed his forehead against mine.

"It's alright, you didn't I'm glad you told me," he says softly. The night ended pleasantly as Levi took me home, to my actual home. Before I had left we planned our next date. Down the road, I would soon take up his offer to become his new hostess at his diner.
