Bertolt lands on top of Reiner and Eren as the impact nearly knocks the surrounding trees down, threatening to blow away all of the soldiers as well. Reiner screams as Eren is forced further and further into the ground when it stops. The steam starts to clear as everyone looks over the edge of the wall after getting to the top of the wall to take refuge.

"What's going on?" Armin asks as he tries to look around.

"Armin, Evelyn's missing!" Mikasa says as she doesn't spot Evelyn anywhere.

Reiner feels something on his back and he glances as he spots Evelyn holding Bertolt up with her bare hands.

How is she doing this? She's just a human!

Reiner asks as he spots the crystallisation all over her body, apart from her joints, protecting any bones from breaking.

She gets attack strength from Eren's titan, the crystallisation from Annie's titan. What would happen if she gets a hold of Bertolt or I's blood?

Reiner asks as he struggles to force Eren further into the ground.

"Eren! Get out of the way!" Evelyn yells as she grabs Reiner's arm, leaving one arm to hold up Bertolt, the other pulling Reiner's arm away from Eren's head, "Hange, I need the troops to cut Bertolt!".

"On it! Everyone, attack the Colossal titan!" Hange orders as everyone rushes down and starts to cut Bertolt.

Evelyn shuts her eyes and opens her mouth as blood drips onto her, majority spilling into her mouth. Eren manages to wriggle his way out from underneath Reiner as he jumps backwards, watching Evelyn slowly lose strength, Bertolt crushing her.

Evelyn. No, stop it. Please... don't kill her again. Please, Evelyn! Wake up!

Eren yells internally as he screams, Evelyn feeling Bertolt's blood mix with her blood as she starts to grow stronger. Evelyn starts to stand up again as she grabs Bertolt, throwing him to the other side of Eren. Bertolt dissipates from his titan, laying Ymir down on the ground as Reiner sees this. He flips over and grabs Evelyn, throwing her towards Bertolt so he can grab her. Eren jumps in the way as he grabs Evelyn and the two crash to the ground. Eren lets go of Evelyn as he looks at her as she stands in his hand. Eren lets her down as Reiner charges towards them.

"Eren, don't let Bertolt get away!" Evelyn yells as Eren gets up and charges towards Bertolt.

Evelyn runs at Reiner and grabs his legs, holding him from getting to Eren.

Come on Evelyn. You've just got to hold out a little bit longer!

Evelyn says as she struggles against Reiner's strength and speed. Reiner ducks down and grabs her, throwing her into the ground, knocking her unconscious.

"Evelyn!" Hannes yells as they all watch Reiner throw Evelyn into his mouth.

"He's not killed her. He's just doing what Annie did with Eren. We can get her out of there!" Mikasa shouts as she gets up.

She stops as she watches Reiner tackle Eren and rip his nape. Reiner grabs Eren and puts him in his mouth as he runs towards Bertolt. Bertolt uses the ODM gear from the soldier he ate earlier and connects his wires to Reiner and he carries Ymir in his arms, the two of them making their escape.

"Eren!" Armin yells as Sasha holds him back, Armin watching Reiner run off into the distance with his best friend and someone he calls his older sister.

--- Trost District ---

Commander Pixis sits on top of the wall overlooking Trost District surrounded by bottles of alcohol as he sits up, sleeping peacefully.

"Commander. Wake up, Commander Pixis" a female captain of the Garrison says as she comes over, "you'll get sick if you fall asleep here" she says as she hits him over the back of the head and kneels down, "I can't believe you drank all of this. You're not young anymore. And I'd rather not spend my days changing your diapers".

"Being cared for by a pretty lady sounds alright to me" Commander Pixis says as he looks at her, "so, what's the situation?".

"Patrols were sent out once the titans were gone from the first and second defensive lines" the woman explains as she takes the bottle of alcohol away from Commander Pixis as he tries to drink it right in front of her, "but any titan sightings were far and few between".

"Hmm, if Hannes and the advance squad followed the wall without problem, they'll be returning any minute now" Commander Pixis says as he pulls out his watch from inside his pocket, "it would mean they met the unit from Krolva District and turned around halfway. And they couldn't have encountered many titans, if any. If there is was a hole in the wall, it would never turn out that way".

"Commander Pixis" Commander Erwin says from behind the two of them as he makes it to the top of the wall.

"Hmm? Oh, if it isn't Commander Erwin" Commander Pixis says as he turns to look at Erwin, "I hear you've captured one of those troublesome mice".

"Yes. Unfortunately, we are one step behind" Erwin says as Commander Pixis stands up.

"Hmm. But at least it will get those fools in the interior thinking" Commander Pixis says as he puts a hand on Erwin's shoulder, "maybe they'll reconsider how important their stale beliefs and motives are to them".

"Yes, it appears they have" Erwin says as he looks over Trost District, "look over there. The Military Police have been forced into an area with titans".

Down below, everyone is discussing the titans that were apparently in Wall Rose.

"Hey, Levi. Where are you hiding the titans at?" one of the soldiers asks as he looks at Levi.

"Oh? You all seem so disappointed" Levi says as he looks back at them all, "sorry. A shame you couldn't fight titans today. If you're looking for another chance, there's plenty of expeditions outside the walls. How about we join forces and face some titans together?".

"Um, well, you know. We're busy with work inside the interior" the same soldier says as he rubs the back of his neck".

"The advance squad's returned!" a soldier nearby announces as everyone looks in that direction, "inform Commander Pixis!".

Everyone gathers as the advance squad gives their report on the situation.

"I see. So there was no problem with the wall" Commander Pixis says as he looks down at the soldier who's completely exhausted on the ground, "as I thought".

"But there's a bit of a situation!" the soldier says as he looks at Commander Pixis, "we were heading back to Trost to give out report when we ran into the Scout unit led by Section Commander Hange and Captain Evelyn. Along with them, there were recruits from the 104th cadet corps, some without their uniform and gear. Captain Levi has previously come back to keep an eye on Pastor Nick. And it turns out, three of them were titans!".

"What are you talking about?" Jean asks as he looks at the soldier, "are you saying there were more? Three more of them? Who was it?".

"Uh, well" Sasha says as she spots Jean looking at her.

"Jean, relax" Commander Erwin says as he puts a hand on Jean's shoulder, "what happened when their forms were revealed?".

"The scouts engaged the Armoured and Colossal titans in battle" the soldier reports as he looks at Commander Erwin, "Evelyn and Eren took on the Armoured titan whilst the rest of them took on the Colossal titan. But by the time we got there, it was all over".

"What do you mean it was all over?" Levi asks as he comes over.

"Ymir, one of the people revealed as a titan, Eren and Evelyn were all taken" the soldier says as he looks at Levi.

Levi starts to walk off as Erwin goes after him.

"Levi, stop this at once!" Erwin shouts as everyone looks at them.

"They took Evelyn. I'll fucking kill them. I don't care who they are!" Levi says angrily as he goes to grab some manouver gear.

"Levi, I order you to stop right now!" Erwin says as Levi's shoulder slump.

"If she dies because I couldn't get to her because of your orders, you'll never hear the end of it. You got that?" Levi asks as he turns to look at Erwin.

"If they so much as pull a hair from her head, I'll kill them myself" Erwin says as Levi nods, "we'll get her back, Levi".

--- back at the sight of the attack ---

Armin walks over to Mikasa who is laid down on top of the wall unconscious, her jacket over her torso, as he sits down next to her and looks down at Trost District.

"Unbelievable! What a disaster!" Hannes says as he walks up behind Armin, "luckily we were above so we go off unscathed. Everyone underneath got blasted with steam and wind. There's nothing they could do. How's Mikasa doing?".

"I don't see any bad wounds, so I'm guessing it's a concussion" Armin says as he looks at Mikasa.

"I see. Armin, you haven't eaten yet, have you?" Hannes asks as he looks at Armin, "I'll get you something" he says as he pats Armin's head, "you've got to eat".

--- flashback to before the walls fell ---

Armin runs through the busy streets of the Shiganshina District as he tries to control his breathing.

"Mikasa! Evelyn!" Armin calls out to Mikasa who is buying some ingredients with Evelyn from a nearby stand.

"Armin, what's wrong?" Evelyn asks as she and Mikasa turn to spot Armin.

"It's Eren!" Armin says as he puts his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath.

"What happened to Eren?" Mikasa asks worriedly as she forces the ingredients into Armin's arms.

"It's those three bullies again" Armin says as he looks at her, "they took some bread I bought from me. So he went on his own to get-", he says as Mikasa and Evelyn run off, "I tried to stop him! Wait!" he says as he chases after the two of them.

"Give it back!" Eren says as he confronts the bullies.

"I thought I told you already. There's none left because I already ate it" the bully says smugly.

"That was three days worth of food for his family" Eren says angrily.

"You've got to be kidding me. Those table scraps?" the bully behind him questions.

"Quit it man. I feel bad now" the blonde haired bully says as Eren glares at him, "if you're fine with vomit, I'll give it back" he says as he pretends to throw up, making his two goonies laugh.

"Pay him back for what you took!" Eren shouts as he grabs the blonde haired bully and headbutts him.

He then swings him around and throws him into a wall. He gets on top and starts to repeatedly punch him.

"Hey, knock it off!" a nearby seller shouts as he looks at the two boys before turning his attention to the nearby Garrison squad members, "hey you good for nothing drunks. Do something about this!".

"Put a sock in it!" Hannes slurs as he turns in his seat to look at the seller, "can't you see the kids are just fooling around?".

"Like hell they're fooling around. Come and stop them!" the seller says as someone runs by him.

"Hey, get the fuck off my little brother!" the bully's older brother yells as he grabs Eren and holds him up by his collar.

"Let go of my brother" Evelyn says calmly from behind the bully as she puts a hand on his shoulder.

"Finally I get to meet the fucker's older sister he goes on about so much" the brother says as he drops Eren and he turns to look at her, "you her?".

"Yeah. I'm her!" Evelyn says as she punches the man, making him stumble back slightly.

The man chuckles before he slaps her, Evelyn keeping her feet firmly planted on the ground.

"Wow, Hannes. It's all kicking off" one of the Garrison members says as he nudges Hannes' shoulder.

"She'll be fine. Let's enjoy this booze" Hannes says as he pours another drink.

"Evelyn" Mikasa says.

Evelyn smirks as goes to punch the man but she ducks under his attempt to swing for her. She puts him into a headlock and flips him over until he's on the ground. She gets on top of him and then roots around his body until she finds his wallet.

"Your asshole of a little brother took my brother's friend's food for his family. Since he's such a fatass, you're going to pay the money back so he can get some food" Evelyn says as she opens his wallet.

"Please. You don't understand. My family has no food either. We have a mouse problem and they keep eating our food" the boy says as he looks up at Evelyn.

"You sure it's not your little brother? Looks like he could lose a few pounds" Evelyn says as she gets off the boy, "here Armin. Make sure you can have a good meal for once".

"Thanks Evelyn" Armin says with a smile.

"Now run!" Evelyn says with a chuckle as they all leg it.

--- present day, at the sight of the attack ---

Mikasa gasps as she wakes up and sits up abruptly. She looks around and sees all of the wounded soldiers near her.

"Mikasa?" Armin asks from next to Mikasa.

"Armin! Where's Eren? And Evelyn. Where are they?" Mikasa asks as she grabs Armin by his collar.

"Mikasa, calm down" Armin says as he looks at her as she gets up, "you shouldn't be moving! We don't know how badly you're injured!".

Mikasa runs to the edge of the wall as she kneels down and looks over the edge, only to see the crater where Eren, Reiner and Bertolt were, two small titans sat down looking up at her.

"Where is they?" Mikasa asks as she turns to look at Armin who caught up with her.

"Eren and Evelyn were both taken away" Armin says calmly, "Ymir, too, by Bertolt and Reiner. They both lost to the Armoured and Colossal titans. It's been five hours since then".

"Is anyone chasing them?" Mikasa asks as she looks out a the land below them.

"No" Armin says as he looks down.

"Why not?" Mikasa asks angrily.

"All the horses are on the other side of the wall" Armin says as he looks away from her, "in order to rescue them, we have to wait for the lifts to come so we can move the horses. There's nothing we can do. Section Commander Hange and the other officers are too injured to move. To even send out a small scouting party, we're going to need more soldiers than this. Soldiers with experience. Do you understand?".

Mikasa nods just before feeling a pain in her head as she holds the side of her head, "not this again" she says as she flinches.

"Does it hurt somewhere?" Armin asks worriedly.

"No. I'm must've hit my head pretty hard, but I'm fine" Mikasa says as she looks down, "but, when Eren was taken away by Annie, I chased them right away. And with Evelyn's skills, we were able to get him back right away. But if it's already been five hours..." she says as she spots Eren's scarf on the ground and she wraps it around herself, "hey, Armin. Why? Why does Eren always go somewhere far away from us?".

"Yeah. Now that you mention it" Armin says as he realises she's right, "Eren has always been running away on his own. I guess that's just the way things are supposed to happen, for Eren at least".

"But all I want is to be by his side" Mikasa says as she hugs her knees to her chest, "that's all I ask for".

"Mikasa? So you're up, huh?" Hannes asks as he walks over to the two of them, "I bet you're both hungry. Here, eat this" he says as he passes the two of them some crackers before sitting down, "as usual, field rations are all there is" he says as he takes a bite out of the crackers, "hmm. Tastes neither bad nor good, same as always. Speaking of which is the same as always, too. Ever since the good old days, the two of you have always been there to clean up the mess of that brat. That's what I call a lousy relationship. Sheesh. It's a different time and a different place, but you kids are doing the same thing you always have. Am I right? The thing is, that brat isn't even all that good at fighting. But no matter if he's up against three or five, he'll charge in all the same. By the time Mikasa or the soldier's showed up, he'd be beaten up all the same. But you know, I've never seen him win a fight before, but I've never seen him get beat up and give up either. Sometimes he's so tenacious that even I think it's scary. And we all know Evelyn won't go down without a fight. No matter how many times the two of them are knocked over, they get right back up. That's the kind of people they are. You think they'll be taken away without a fight? Nope. They'll keep resisting as long as they have strength. Even more so when they're up against just two. They'll give them hell no matter what they're up against. Until you or I show up to help. That's how they've always been. I loved those good old days. If you asked the two of them, they'd tell you those day were nothing but false peace. But for me, I'm more happy to be a drunk, useless soldier getting told off by Evelyn everyday. If it means getting back to those plain ordinary days, I'll do whatever I have to. No matter how long it takes to get there. I'm coming too. Without you three together again and Evelyn there to talk my ear off, I can't go back to the good old days".

The three of them nod as they all start to eat their crackers when they hear the sound of horse hooves against the stone on the walls. They all stand up and group together.

"They're here!" Mikasa announces as they watch the rest of the Scouts show up.

"Hey, isn't that...?" Armin asks as he notices someone at the front of the group, "Commander Erwin!".

"The Military Police are here too!" Conny says as he points to them.

"I never thought they'd ride along the wall" Armin says as he looks at them.

"That's probably the quickest route!" Historia says as she looks at Armin.

"Krista. I'd prefer you stayed back, but..." Armin says as he looks down.

"No matter what you say, I won't" Historia says as she looks at Armin, "I refuse to wait here when Ymir was taken away. You two should know how I feel".

"Krista has a point, Armin" Conny says as he comes over to them, "we have plenty of reasons to chase after them. One of which I still can't believe. That Reiner and Bertolt are our enemies. I've got to hear it straight from their mouths".

"You made it, Commander Erwin" Moblit says as he goes over to Erwin who gets off of his horse.

"Is the situation the same?" Erwin asks as he looks at the soldier.

"Yes, sir!" Moblit says with a nod.

"Good. Deploy the lifts!" Erwin orders as Moblit feels something grab his ankle.

"Section Commander Hange?" Moblit asks as he looks down.

"Moblit. Give me a map" Hange manages to make out.

The other soldiers start to work on getting the lifts working and the horses over the walls as everyone else gather around with Hange.

"It might be a long shot, but there's a giant forest here" Hange says as they spread out the map, "we should head straight for it. Though, it's not like they have a way to hide the Armoured titan's footsteps, but I think that's where they're headed".

"Why's that?" Erwin asks as he looks at Hange.

"It's a gamble, but even if they have the strength to change into a titan, the other titans outside of the walls might still be a threat" Hange explains as they look at Erwin, "especially after all that fighting. They might not be as bad off as Eren and Evelyn, but I'm sure they're still exhausted. Like how Annie was out cold for a while. Let's assume for now that their destination is somewhere outside of Wall Maria. Considering the distance they'll have to cover, we can assume they'll need to recover their stamina. Which means they'll want to reach somewhere the titans are unable to reach them. At least until night time when the titans can't move".

"How badly was Evelyn injured?" Erwin asks as he looks at Armin, "Levi's worried. He's also annoyed that I'm not letting him come with us".

"She was impaled by a large plank of wood after protecting Eren when Bertolt transformed" Armin explains as he looks at Erwin, "she managed to use her powers to hold Bertolt and throw him like it was nothing. But Reiner threw her into a tree and smashed her into the ground. I doubt she'll be waking up for a while".

--- in the giant tree forest ---

Eren finally wakes up and sits up as he looks around.

"Oh, Eren" Reiner says from a different branch, "you're awake?".

Eren looks to his left and sees Evelyn sitting there, the large piece of wood still impaled in her stomach, her complexion pale, her breaths short and wheezy.

--- back with the Scouts ---

"We have until night" Hange says as the Scouts all group together, "if we reach the forest before nightfall, we still make it in time".
