Beauty And The Beast Part 3 (Opal Beifong)

Part three of the last two chapters. As always appreciate it if you comment throughout.

(Y/n) sat in silence in silence in his cell as he stared at the door, hating himself for not convincing Kai and Opal that the mission to the fire nation had been a bad idea.

After being captured the boy had been brought to the Fire Lord's palace and turned in for the bounty that was on his head. Fire Lord Izumi had been merciful enough to let him live but she had also thrown him into the Fire Nation's most infamous prison, The Boiling Rock.

(Y/n) wanted to hate the woman but he knew he would have done the same if he had been in her position. He had been banished after all.

Opal was silent as she lay in the healing room of Air Temple Island, her eyes closed as a water bending Air Acolyte healed her wounds and bruises that she had attained on her previous mission.

She could feel herself getting better by the second but she could also feel her grief and regret growing at the same time. She had passed out once they arrived on the Bison and since Kai had no control over Juicy the animal had elected to take off and fly home a moment later when a firebender attacked them. They had left (y/n) behind.

Opal didn't blame her Bison of course, she blamed herself. (Y/n) had tried to convince her that the mission had been a bad idea but she hadn't listened and now she had no idea what had happened to him. For all she knew he could be dead in a ditch somewhere, his corpse being burnt so badly they'd never identify it.

"All done" Opal opened her eyes at the words and looked down, realizing that she was no longer in pain and there were no longer anymore visible wounds.

"Thank you" Opal spoke quietly. The Air Acolyte nodded before leaving so that Opal could get dressed again in private.

Soon enough Opal was back in her airbender clothes and walking through the halls of the air temple. She already knew what she needed to do, and she planned to do it.

Unfortunately Asami was already waiting for her in the stables when she got there. "Figured you'd be coming here" the girl spoke as she pet Juicy who was currently eating a bale of hay.

"I need to get (y/n) back" Opal spoke as she flung herself over Asami and onto her Bison's back with her bending. "I'm not just going to sit here and wait to hear something"

"You don't have any information on where he may be" Asami spoke as she looked up at the airbender. "There's no way he's where you had been anymore"

Opal shook her head. "Doesn't matter. I'll look anyways"

Asami shook her head. "But you don't have to, there are better ways of going about this" that gained Opal's attention. "Let's assume the criminals captured and turned him in for the reward money-"

"There's a bounty on him?" Opal frowned with a confused look.

"The Fire Nation pays for people who come back and ignore the fact that they're exiled" Asami explained. "But let's say they turned him in, that should be big news. We can probably find some info on him"

"And what if they didn't turn him in?" Opal asked with a frown. "What if they killed him? Or if they're keeping him as a captive?"

"They won't kill him" Asami spoke surely. "He's a combustionbender. They can make to much off of him. We will find him"

Opal sighed before getting off of the bison. "Fine. You lead the way"

(Y/n) stood alone, staring down at the ground, as he enjoyed the bit of time outside that the prison allowed him. If this were any other prison he'd be thinking up escape plans, but this was the boiling rock. Only one escape attempt from this place had ever been successful. Instead he thought about what he had done.

—————————————————————

The young (Y/n) was silent as he stared at Fire Lord Zuko, walking through the streets as if he were any normal person. He wasn't a normal person, and he shouldn't have been stupid enough to come here. This was one of the people responsible for the imprisonment of (y/n)'s Parents, and he'd pay for that.

The once Fire Lord seemed to sense it as it happened. He moved to the side just a moment before the explosion occurred. It hit the wall right behind Zuko instead of hitting the ex-ruler himself.

It was at that point that (y/n) knew he was in trouble. His eyes locked with Zuko and he decided to take another shot. This one was on track to hit but Zuko suddenly held a hand out and seemed to absorb the shot.

(Y/n) was to stunned by what had just occurred to realize that he was about to be tackled to the ground by the guards.

The days were a blur after that. Fire Lord Izumi, having been young back then, had wanted to have (y/n) executed or at the very least thrown in prison for his attack on her father. It was Zuko himself, having discovered the reason for the boys attack, who decided that he deserved mercy. It was Zuko who had convinced his daughter that banishment was the right decision here.

Zuko had saved (y/n)'s life, even after he had almost lost his own life to the same boy. It took (y/n) a long time to understand and come to terms with that.

Asami had been right. Opal could see the boiling rock now as they flew over it. They were very high up, doing their best to avoid the heat. "(Y/n) is down there" she whispered, tempted to jump off the bison. He had been there for a decent length of time now, all because of her.

"We'll get him out of there" Asami spoke as she took Opal's hand. "Don't worry"

Opal frowned but nodded. She didn't think this would work. "Alright" she took the reins again. "Faster" she asked her bison quietly.

The bison sped up and Opal watched the prison in silence until it was out of sight. A breakout would have been her preference, but she knew they'd probably have failed.

—————————————————————

(Y/n) sat in his cell, carefully burning away his facial hair with his bending in a way that he had been taught once he was old enough to need to shave. They weren't supposed to firebend in the prison, but what the guards didn't know wouldn't hurt them.

There was a sound from outside the door and the boy quickly stopped his bending just a second before it opened. "Let's go" a guard spoke as he motioned to the prisoner.

(Y/n) frowned but nodded. He stood up and followed the guard. "Where are you taking me?" He asked quietly. He got no response.

Soon enough they found themselves at the cable cars that lead off of the island. (Y/n) was shocked to see Opal and Asami standing there, seemingly waiting for them. "(Y/n)!" Opal waved.

(Y/n) looked to the guard, confused. He just motioned for (y/n) to go to his friends before turning and walking away.

Still baffled, (y/n) walked over to them. "What's going on?" He asked before he suddenly found himself holding Opal as she forced him into a hug.

"We got you pardoned" Opal said as if it was no big deal. "Well, this time. You still have to leave the fire nation, but we told Fire Lord Izumi what happened"

"That worked?" (Y/n) frowned as he hugged Opal back tightly.

"She's a nice woman" Asami smiled as she watched her friends. "And she knows through Zuko that we're trustworthy"

"Oh" (y/n) smiled and Opal broke the hug. "Thank you"

"Of course" Opal stood on the tips of her toes and leaned her forehead against the boys. "I wouldn't leave you here. Not after you saved me"

(Y/n) smirked. "I would hope not. That would be horrible of you"

Opal laughed a bit at that. She stared at the boy for another minute before pressing her lips against his briefly. "Let's go home, shall we?"

(Y/n) frowned, looking back at the prison. Could it really be this easy? He had tried to kill a man who once ruled this land and then come back after his banishment. How could they just let him go.

Opal frowned as she saw the expression on the boys face. "Whatever you did, do you really think I'd have changed the Fire Lord's mind if she didn't believe you were worthy of forgiveness?"

(Y/n) was silent as he contemplated that. "No, no I suppose not" he began walking towards the cable cars.

Once they were all inside they began the ascent up from the crater. (Y/n) stared at the prison still until finally looking to Opal again. He offered her his hand and she took it.

He couldn't forgive himself for what he had done, not yet. But if the Fire Lord could forgive it then he was sure some day he could too.
