"We can't go there" (y/n) crossed his arms firmly as he sat in Juicy's saddle with Kai, Opal was once again in the drivers seat.

"They've requested our help" Kai replied with a confused look. "We have to go"

"I can't go there" (y/n) shook his head, this response prompted Opal to turn around and listen. "Drop me off somewhere before we leave the Earth Kingdom. You'll be better off without me"

"Why?" Opal asked curiously as she crawled over to the saddle and sat down beside the combustionbender. "I'd think you'd be happy to go back to your homeland"

The boy just shook his head, refusing to elaborate.

"I'm going to need more than that if you're going to get out of this" Opal elbowed the boy gently. "Spill it"

(Y/n) sighed and rubbed his warm forehead. "I'm- I've been banished from the Fire Nation"

Opal and Kai were of course both shocked by this revelation. "Why?"

(Y/n) crossed his arms and shut his mouth.

Opal stared into the boys angry eyes for a moment. "Does it have to do with your mom?"

It was no surprise to Opal when the only response to her question was a nod. (Y/n)'s mother had been P'Li, the combustionbending giant of the Red Lotus, the same one who had been killed by Opal's mother and aunt two years ago.

"What did she make you do?" Opal asked gently as she reached out to put her hand on the boys shoulder, only to have her hand smacked away and back down to her side. "What could be so bad that you were banished?"

"Opal I've been remarkably patient when it comes to your probing and prodding of my life but I'm not going to budge on this" (y/n) replied as he poked the girl in the forehead. "Get back to flying your bison before I blow your leg off"

Opal knew an empty threat when she heard one. She reached out her hand to the boys cheek and stroked it, smiling when she saw the anger on the boys face turn more to annoyance. "What did she make you do?" She whispered.

(Y/n) was silent as he stared at Opal. "You make it very hard not to blow you up" he spoke coldly which caused Opal to laugh. Kai just stared in confusion at how she was so comfortable around this boy.

"Are you really going to let me go to the Fire Nation without you?" Opal asked with an over dramatic frown as she leaned her forehead up against (y/n)'s. "I could get hurt, I could get lost-"

"You could stop trying to manipulate me" Opal could feel the boys forehead beginning to heat up and knew she could no longer push him on this topic.

"Alright" Opal sighed as she pulled away and looked at Kai. "Guess it'll just be the two of us"

"Guess so" Kai shrugged as he leaned back and stared up at the blue up above. "How about I make a suggestion though?"

(Y/n) glared at Kai, not wanting him to bud in. "Suggest away!" Opal spoke hopefully.

"We're not going to be to far into the Fire Nation, how about (y/n) comes with but stays here on Juicy?"

Opal quickly looked to the combustionbender to gauge his interest in the idea. He had the same cold and annoyed look that he had had for the past minute. "Perfect. We'll do that"

(Y/n) shook his head before turning and lying down facing away from the airbenders. "Keep pushing my limits Opal and you're going to find yourself blown into little pieces"

"Whatever you say" Opal said teasingly as she took the boys hand and kissed it. "You always threaten that but I've been with you for months and known you for years, you won't kill. Not even your enemies. You're a big mean teddy bear!"

(Y/n) just once again let out a sigh before closing his eyes and warming his body with his bending as he silently thought of the mistakes of his past.

"Kai's headed to scout ahead" Opal spoke as the boy jumped off the bison now that they were landed. "You sure you don't want to come with?" Opal asked hopefully.

"As long as I'm on this bison I am, metaphorically, on Air Nation soil. I am not violating the conditions of my banishment and I do not plan on violating them" (y/n) spoke matter-of-factly as he crossed his arms.

Opal sighed but nodded. "I respect that. And I don't suppose you'd like to change your mind on not telling me why you were banished?"

(Y/n) rubbed his head. "You're not going to give up on this are you?"

"No, no I am not" Opal smiled as she leaned down and kissed the boys forehead. "Not until I've shown you that whatever you did doesn't make you a bad person and that it's no reason to hate yourself"

(Y/n) just leaned back and lay on the saddle. "I did a thing, there were consequences. That's all you're getting"

"Alright" Opal sighed and unbuttoned the buttons keeping her glider wings from opening. "We shouldn't be long"

"Have fun storming the castle" (y/n) spoke before silently watching as Opal spread out her arms and wings before a large gust of wind made her glide up into the sky like a cute flying squirrel.

By the time that the sun had finally begun to set (y/n) was concerned. It wasn't like Opal to be this late, especially on a mission which she said wouldn't be long.

"Okay that's it" (y/n) sighed as he stood up and looked off in the direction that Kai and Opal had disappeared in. "Let's go find them Juicy" he walked over to the creatures back, above where the saddle was, and sat down before grabbing the reins. "Forward"

The air bison walked forward through the trees until it was dark. Once the darkness had surrounded them (y/n) summoned a flame into his hand to light the way. Much like every other combustionbender he didn't often use firebending, although that didn't mean he didn't know how to. He was a bit rusty at it so he kept the flame small so as not to burn down the forest.

"We should never have come here" the boy muttered a few minutes later before quickly silencing himself and dissipating his fire when he heard the sound of talking. He directed juicy a few steps forward and finally he could see what looked to be a distant fire.

(Y/n) sat there for a moment until he finally felt he was ready to fully give up on his promise not to return. "Stay here Juicy" he whispered to the Bison before carefully getting off and to the ground. Fire Nation ground.

A couple minutes later he had snuck over to the camp and watched from the bushes. Judging by the colors of their clothes this group were a mixture of people from the three main peoples, they fit the bill of the people that the airbenders had been sent after. However there was no sign of Opal or Kai, perhaps they were in one of the tents.

(Y/n) was careful as he snuck over to the first of many tents. He listened in and heard nothing. He carefully walked over to the entrance and unzipped the door, risking a glance inside and only seeing a sleeping waterbender. He moved on to the next tent.

Luckily most of the tents which had people awake inside of them also had talking or some other noises.

Finally on the fifth and largest tent (y/n) heard nothing once more. He opened the tent and spotted Kai and Opal asleep and tied up so well that he doubted they could move at all.

Once inside the tent (y/n) was quick to enter but was surprised to find a guard that he hadn't seen. The guard quickly jumped at him and swung his sword which just barely missed.

(Y/n) quickly grabbed the guard by the face and threw him to the ground before stomping his boot on his face to knock him, and a few teeth, out.

All the noise had woken Kai and Opal who quickly noticed (y/n) before trying and failing to talk to him through their gags.

(Y/n) finally walked over to the two airbenders and frowned as he noticed the bruises and scratches and scrapes all over them. "Are you okay?" He asked as he quickly ungagged Opal before doing the same to Kai.

"Nothing hurt but our pride" Opal admitted with a hurt laugh which quickly turned into a violent cough.

"And our bodies" Kai groaned as (y/n) started trying to untie Opal.

"I'll get you some medical help soon en-"

"Look out!" Opal quickly blew a torrent of air at a man who was just entering the tent. He was quickly flung back outside of the tent and into the mud.

"Ah damn this" (y/n) quickly lit a flame in his palm before using it to burn away the ropes tying Opal's hands together while he kept his eyes on the door. "Juicy is right outside of the camp. Get to her while I hold off-" someone opened the tent flap only to quickly find the ground at his feet combusting and sending him flying backwards.

The rope finally broke and Opal's hands were free. She quickly used her airbending to cut the rest of her bindings before doing the same to help Kai out. "Can you walk?" She asked Kai as she struggled to stand up.

"Yeah, yeah you got the worst of it" Kai replied as he got up slowly and painfully while (y/n) sent another blast at the feet of another enemy.

Kai quickly helped Opal stand before using his bending to tear apart the back of the tent and walk out of it with her.

Once the airbenders were out (y/n) exited the tent only to find himself quickly needing to dodge a chunk of ice which almost impaled his chest. "Surrender combustionbender! You're worth more alive than dead" an earthbender quickly caused walls to arise on all sides of the boy and trap him in a dirt pyramid.

(Y/n) quickly looked around the small object he was trapped inside. He considered blasting his way out but the explosion would have done him to much harm for it to be a successful way of escaping. His fire wouldn't have gotten through either. He was trapped.
