Three.
I was sitting down worried about what would happen if someone found out the dirtiest secret in my diary when I heard a familiar voice behind me.
"Hey, church girl." The person called, recognizing the voice as none other than Folu, my first and only crush.
"What is it?" I groaned not bothering to turn around and get lost in his light brown eyes.
"You look at me when I'm talking to you." He hissed, arrogantly puffing out his chest a little. Unfortunately, I was alone so I prayed one of my smart mouth friends would come in soon.
"What do you want?" I ask now turning to face him with the hardest glare I could muster.
"Hahaha, stop the pretense. We all know you like me." He said loudly gaining the attention of the rest of the class which had not been on us before as I felt like the ground should just swallow me.
"Excuse me, what are you on about?" I ask, faking a disinterested face as my heart beat heightened. I was very sure it was running faster than a newborn.
"Cut the pretense, I got your letter." He said.
"What letter?" I ask now thoroughly confused as he brought out a familiar over worn page of my diary from his pocket.
"Ooh fuck!" I exclaimed as I stood up and tried to collect it from him but he just raised up his arms hence I became too short to reach it. Out of desperation, I climbed a chair but all he did was stand on his toes and I still couldn't reach it. He starts to read as the whole class listened.
"Dear diary.
I still cannot fathom the fact that I have a huge crush on Fola Adeniyi..." He stopped reading for drama purpose as I cringed on how stupid I was to have written his full name and some of my classmate including him started laughing.
"...He's like a dream come true, I mean he's cute, handsome, kinda intelligent and OMG, he's so tall. My ideal type of guy. I have heard the rumors that he doesn't date and all but wouldn't it be nice to have him fall in love with me. It would be just like a movie (lol) so sweet and romantic but really, would I be up to his standards." He stops reading again and by now, I was already bowing my head from shame and my classmate's laughter made it all the more humiliating.
"Okay, baby girl. I'm so sorry to break this to you but you are so right. I don't date girls like you." He said, the "You." said tauntingly.
"What's wrong with me." The stupid me blurted out, hurt from being insulted by her crush.
"You have no shape like an amoeba, Too thick with no shape. Besides, you are too childish." He said and that was when the tears started flowing on its own free will.
"see what I was saying, crying for just a few words. So childish..." he muttered but I was already out of the door, running blindly not seeing clearly through my tears.
Fortunately for me, the hallway wasn't really crowded and I was almost at the field where I had meant to cry in peace when I bumped into a wall.
"Or a chest." I thought as I felt myself falling.
Waiting for the impact of my fall, I realized it never came because a stranger was holding me and preventing me from falling. A handsome stranger, might I add.
"Hey, are you alright." He asks as I blinked twice at his unusual accent. It took me a while but I finally formed a reply.
" Yeah, thanks." I said moving away from him, clearing my throat.
"You are welcome, you weren't looking so you bumped into me." He said as a way of explanation when he sees the still confused expression in my face.
"I'm sorry." I said.
"It's okay, why were you running like your life depended on it." He asks handing me a handkerchief which I didn't realize till later was meant to be used to wipe my tears.
"Running away from humiliation." I said sighing deeply.
"Happens to most of us." He said chuckling as I noticed his light unusual accent again.
"I know right. You have an accent, which country is it?" I ask
"Ooh yeah, it's Aussie. I grew up in Australia, just got back some months ago for some important things." He replied.
"ooh okay." I said.
"Yeah. so where were you headed?" He asks
"The field." I said.
"Why there?" He asks
"I was going there to cry peacefully." I said.
"You are going to a field to cry peacefully." He asks to be sure while I nodded positive and he started laughing.
"I'm glad I amuse you." I said dryly.
"No, please don't take offense. I'm just wondering why you will cry in a field where everyone and anyone can see you." He said as I finally saw his point.
Facepalming, I groaned and realized I was about to make one of the stupid mistakes I make again if I hadn't bumped into him.
"Let's go to the hall. No one is rarely there anyway." He said.
"Okay, let's go." He said as we walked into the hall which consisted of just a few students In different angle so we went to a quiet corner and sat on one of the empty desks.
"So are you a student In our school." I asked since he was putting on house wears instead of the schools usual Orange and brown Tuesday wears.
"Kinda, I'm here to write WAEC (West Africa Examination Council.)"
"Ooh okay, so indirectly you are my senior." I said
"Actually no, my mom wants me to join school for a year before writing the exams. That way, she thinks I'd be more prepared. Now to the big question, why were you crying." He asks as I sigh again, realizing how much Fola words hurt over again.
