Four.
"Let's just say my diary got me in trouble with my crush." I said.
"Wow, sounds juicy. Please tell me more." He said, a big smile on his face.
"Don't tell me you also think keeping diaries are childish and immature." I said groaning.
"Nope, in fact I kinda do also. I don't buy diaries though but I have lots of jotters and there I write about how I feel or stuff's I don't want people to know and since it's a jotter, people don't suspect it but a diary screams secret hence piping people's curiosity making them always want to check it behind the owners back." he said as I nodded.
"True but that makes the secret scattered nah." I said.
"Yes but it still better when cases like yours happen. Besides, there's ten percent probability that a lost jotter will be picked up and flipped through while there's ninety percent probability of a diary being picked up. And if eventually the jotter is read, there's just a few secrets in it unlike a diary." He said as I shook my head in denial.
"Too stressful. I still think a diary is better." He said
"However ma'am. Anyways, I'm Mide. What's your name?" He said flashing me a bright smile again.
"Atinuke." I replied also smiling instantly.
"I will call you tinu, I hope that's fine?" he ask.
"Yes, it is." I said as the bell was rang signifying the free period was over, I groaned.
"Well, if this was in the movies. Something cliche will happen but this is real life so no." He said smiling.
"I know right, movies eehn." I said chucking as he started laughing.
"Our story starts now." He said after his laughter subsided but we both burst into laughter again at his cliche line.
"Abegi, abi it ends here." I said
"Nope it doesn't, I will see you around." He said as we both stood up.
"I enjoyed your company Tinu." He said as he stood up finally, pocketing.
"Thanks for cheering me up." I said as we finally parted ways, I was all smiles as I entered the class, Folu forgotten but the smile flew off my face as I saw Mrs Agbaje, our strict English teacher already in the class.
"Yepa." I thought as I began to look for a visible lie.
"Young woman, where are you coming from?" Mrs Agbaje turned to me, her glass perched on top of her nose, her forehead creased as I began to sweat.
"I haven't been feeling too well ma so I went to the sick bay." I lied praying she won't ask me to go the sick bay for a proof of being a little Ill.
"Okay, go to your seat and bring out your note." She said as I breathe a sigh of relief quietly, joining my friends who were both looking at my face from their seat, trying to decode what made me sick probably.
I brought out my grammar book and notebook and began to take notes as Mrs Agbaje went on with the class and when she finally stepped out, we all sighed.
"Come here right now. "
"Spill." Ife and Shade said at the same time as they both shifted their chairs closer to mine so I gave them the full gist.
"That useless boy, if I catch him eehn. He will regret ever been born into this world." Shade said angrily.
"But how can that boy just humiliate you like that, I don't even know what's so special about him that you like him. He needs to learn his place." Ife, the usually calm one said and I could feel the anger in her voice.
"May God help you." I offered a silent prayer for Folu because I knew my friends were going to get their own back even if they won't tell me, they will.
"But really, we need to find out who is with that diary." ife said.
"Why do you say it is with someone, I think she lost it." Shade said.
"Why would a lost diary get to Folu, you said he told you "He received your letter." Which means, either someone dropped it into his locker or bag." Ife reasoned.
"True, that page wasn't torn so how did he get a torn copy." I thought out aloud.
"Unless he had the whole diary." Shade piped In.
"I don't think so, if he had the whole diary. He would have been willing to use all to annoy her." Ife said again.
"Exactly. I can think of more embarrassing and humiliating secrets he could use." I muttered as my friends got quiet, they knew and understood it was one of the things I never wanted anyone to know.
"It's okay, they will never find that out." Shade said comforting me.
"We need to find who took that diary." Ife said
"First, we need a list of all the students in this class and those who doesn't really like you, that would make it easy to find those that might want to blackmail or stress you." Shade said already bringing out her jotter, she had just finished writing the names when our chemistry teacher entered.
"Argh, I almost forgot this man never misses his class." I groaned, Turing to stand up and greet the man I had thought would not be coming because he was running late.
"You wished but you forgot, it's Mr Ayo." Shade chuckled as I groaned again.
"Are you guys not happy to see me?" He ask as we all muttered that we were.
"I know you are not but that's okay. Everyone, tear a sheet of paper. We are having a test." He said as we all started a commotion because ninety percent of us weren't ready and we know he always uses his test. No matter how little the scores.
"I'm not prepared at all!" I screamed internally.
