Athena scrambled over Markaira's paws. She snapped gently at her mother's ear, before letting out a soft whine. Markaira opened one of her dull green eyes before turning her head away from her daughter.

Athena barked but Markaira ignored her. Athena whimpered as she looked at the den entrance.

She was born 4 days ago and has never seen daylight yet. Athena wanted to do it with her mother, but she was being so stubborn.

Athena started for the entrance at full speed. She was nearly there when she had tripped on a root. Athena yelped as she fell down, she bit her tongue hard as she fell. Whimpering, Athena tried to pry herself out of the root's grasp.

Athena whined as she bit at the root, but it still had a tight grip around her back paw. Soon she started to bark out of frustration. 

Abruptly Markaira's fangs sank gently into her back leg. Swiftly the mother Wolf pried it free of the root. 

Athena barked in delight as she continued her charge to the outside world. Though Markaira grabbed her scruff and held her back some, telling her to slow down.

Markaira's tail flicked at Athena's ear in a authoritative manner, basically saying stay here.

Soon, the mother Wolf went out of sight and outside into the world. Athena was anxious to see the world outside the den but Markaira had explicitly told her to stay there. Ears folded to the back of her head, Athena crouched down and began to creep to the entrance.

Afraid of disobeying Markaira's orders and getting caught, Athena poked her nose out the entrance. Sniffing for Markaira or danger, but she couldn't figure out what all the new smells were.

Athena became too curious to bare no more so she poked her entire head out. No sign of Markaira but there was a mouse.

She snarled and leapt at the mouse, missing it. The mouse ran off quickly with Athena right behind it. Athena barked at it as the mouse abruptly darted into a crevice. 

Athena whined as she clawed at the rock and dirt, trying to reach the mouse. She barked out of agitation before giving up and sitting out of disappointment. 

She stayed there for a few moments, until something hit her head hard. Athena whimpered as she looked up.

The sky was covered by branches and limps overlapping each other. Athena looked for what could've dropped onto her head. 

She scanned the trees until she found grey squirrel that appeared to be chewing on a acorn. Athena barked at it angrily, the grey squirrel perked up and looked down at her. It looked like it was mocking her rudely.

Athena whimpered as she stared at it. The grey squirrel finally quit and scampered farther up the tree. She growled in frustration and barked at it.

Abruptly Athena was pinned down. Her body was yanked up harshly back onto her feet, Athena growled a warning at her attacker and turned around to see her mother, Markaira giving her a hard cold stare.

Athena instantly became submissive and lowered her body to the ground. Markaira nudged her onto her feet and began to run off. 

Athena looked back at the crevice where the mouse disappeared to. Now it was sitting there staring at Athena, with a 'I told you so' look.

She barked at it until she looked at where her mother disappeared to. Athena raced after Markaira, barking frantically until she finally found her. 

Markaira was crouched down, she seemed focused on something so Athena followed her example and crouched down, then crept to her side. 

There was a warren of rabbits! Athena got excited and her tail thrashed wildly, the rabbits looked up and apparently saw the two she-wolves.

The rabbits ran for it. Athena chased them eagerly, barking like she had rabies of some sort. She was chasing one until it darted into a hole. Athena tried to dig after it but her mother gave a calling bark. 

The pup looked up to see a rabbit in her mother's jaws. Athena tilted her head to the side in a confused manner. 

Markaira began to walk off and Athena looked around to see all of the rabbits gone. She whimpered until she heard a squeak. 

Athena looked over and saw the mouse from earlier, it looked up at her curiously. Athena sat down and curled her tail over her paws, she got into a staring contest with the mouse. 

She soon got another commanding bark from Markaira and Athena ran after her mother.
