Chapter 09

Arielle Nelson

A few days had passed since I've talked to Jake, I wanted him to spend his time with his family. He doesn't need to be buried with my problems. He shouldn't even waste his time I thought everything was going just fine until I found myself slowly going back into my old habits.

I've been skipping just a few meals,

just taking a few pills,

no biggy,

there's nothing to worry about right?

I know I brought this up by myself after searching through Facebook. I should've known better. I stared at my reflection in the mirror. Once again the nagging voice came again.

lose some weight you fat pig

too big

hideous

you leave the house looking like this, what a shame

not flat enough

One boob is bigger than the other

You still have so many rolls

You're never going to find a boy who loves you especially looking like that

I looked away from the mirror but the voice continued to nag. I walked to my bag and got my little container which contained the few pills I have left and placed one in my tongue and took a sip of water before I laid back down in bed.

One day I will be beautiful.

One day I will not cause so much pain to myself.

One day I will be truly happy.

Until then this cycle will continue.

I heard my phone ring but I made no attempt to answer it, whoever it is can wait. The person on the other line did not get the memo that I was not going to answer because they kept calling over and over again. On the last ring I finally answered the phone "hello," I said tiredly.

"Arielle, what's up? You have been MIA lately, I haven't seen you at school is everything ok?" David's voice said from the other line. I desperately wanted to say "hey David no I'm not fine everything is totally not fine. You are dating Heather when I have this massive crush on you. Oh, and did you know I'm slowly trying to lose some weight in the most dangerous way and I so desperately want you to notice me and like me more than a friend. Bet you did not know that huh?"

Instead, I answered with a "hey, David of course everything is fine. I've just been helping my mom around the house it's just a lot for her to do by herself,"

"I get it it's tough I just feel like we are not as close ever since I've started dating Heather you feel. You hang out more with Jake than me, your best friend. We should catch up, what do you say want to stay in and watch some movies just you and me?" David offered.

I liked the sound of that just him and I. No third-wheeling, nobody else, just the two of us.

"You know what I will really like that. Say come over around six?" I said getting out of my bed.

"Ok I'll see you there can't wait to catch up with you," and that was the end of our conversation. I started picking up my messy room.

Was it bad I was secretly hoping he will make a move on me tonight?

I shouldn't be thinking like that this is Heather's boyfriend, she's my best friend. I can't do that to her.

July 16th- Miami, FL

I reached the airport, checked in, and went to the waiting area to board the plane. Still no sign of Heather nor David. I saw the plane pulling up and parking where we need to board. The plane is here and I guess it's leaving without them. I stopped calling and sending them messages a while ago. I'm tired of being ignored. They are probably having too much fun that they are forgetting about the world.

I'm not going to lie I'm very bitter about this whole situation. That should be me with David. I was always there for him since the beginning of it all. It was always me helping him out in the toughest times he had to face especially during his parent's nasty divorce, helping him with school and giving him advice when he needed some. I was always there and somehow I was overlooked.

That should be me

I saw two lunatics running towards the boarding area where I am sitting. As they got closer I realized it was Heather and David.

Great

"Now boarding plane 218 to Savannah, Georgia." The announcer said I quickly got up and gave the attendant my ticket and found my seat quickly, not wanting to talk to David nor Heather. I raised the volume on my iPod all the way up and looked outside the window. From the corner of my eyes, I can see all the passengers quickly settling in their seats. I felt the someone sit beside me.

I totally forgot I was going to sit beside the one and only David. I felt my headphone being pulled. "Hey Arielle, that was a close call we almost missed the flight," He said out of breath. I nodded my head what was I supposed to say to that when I wanted them to miss their flight.  "Heather and I went to some fancy restaurant, then to some park and beach where we met cool people. Time flew by so fast and before we knew it, we were rushing to the hotel then to the airport,"

"That was a close call, huh, you guys got lucky," I told him bitterly deciding to speak up.

You should have noticed the time a little bit later and actually missed the flight I wanted to say. The flight attendant soon made her announcement telling everyone the procedures to follow in case of an emergency.

Soon after the plane took off, less than an hour left to arrive in Georgia, I saw Heather walking towards David and I. "Hey Arielle sorry I didn't come earlier with your food David and I just lost track out time," she said.

Shut up I wanted to tell her.
I don't need to hear another story.

"It's fine," I told her. "Do you think it will be possible to switch seats for the rest of the trip I have to talk to David," She asked quickly before I placed my ear bug back in. "Listen, Heather, I had a very tiring day today I really don't want to move," she nodded her head and walked back to her seat. "What was that about?" David asked me.

"Nothing David I'm just tired and I don't feel like moving she can talk to you once we land," I told him then placed my ear bug on and closed my eyes.

I got an extra blanket from the closet and dropped it on my bed as I made my way to the kitchen to get some matches to turn on some candles which brought some light to my room.

My phone rang again this time it was Heather, speak of the devil. "Hey girl it's been a while let's meet up and hang out," she said loudly. "Hey, Heather I already have some plans for tonight maybe tomorrow?" I told her not wanting to mention that I was going to hang out with her boyfriend.

This is wrong

"Oh ok have fun and totally tomorrow is a must right after school," she responded. "You got it," we said our goodbyes and I quickly took a shower and changed into a nice pair of leggings with a thin sweater. Around 6:30 the doorbell rang and I hurried to answer the door like a silly school girl whose date is coming to pick her up.

Relax Arielle he doesn't want a girl who can't take care of herself.

Take a look in the mirror hun, you're not cute.

Hideous creature

I opened the door and saw David along with Heather and Jake.

Sweet how nice

"Change of plans, I heard Heather called you and wanted to hang out so I thought why don't we all hangout. I also brought Jake so won't feel like a third wheel. I hope you don't mind," David said.

Just lovely

"No, I don't mind this is great. The more the merrier right? Come in," I said giving a fake smile once again.

Back at it again with the fake smiles Arielle

They all entered and I grab the blankets from my room and extra from the closet and brought them to the living room. I made sure to turn off candles because it was obvious no move was going to happen.

No David no Arielle

We all settled in front of the t.v. and began watching Now You See Me 2. It was going to be a long night.
