Chapter 6
Yeosang sat down on the edge of Hongjoong and Seonghwa's bed, leaning over and gently laying a cool cloth on Hongjoong's forehead.
"How's he feeling today," Yeosang asked, glancing over at Seonghwa who was laid behind Hongjoong, the younger lying on his chest.
"I think he's starting to feel better. His fever peaked last night and started coming down, he should be better by tomorrow," Seonghwa said with a sigh. Hongjoong had been sick for two days since Seonghwa had found him unconscious by the helm so Seonghwa and Yeosang had been looking after him and making sure he was ok.
"He should be ok by the time we make it to the island," Yeosang said. They decided that before they go after this new ship, they should go to a remote island to bond some more and have a chance to relax before setting out.
"Hopefully. I'm going to stay with him at the moment though, make sure he's alright. We'll come out when he wakes up," Seonghwa said softly.
"Ok. How're you guys going," Yeosang asked quietly.
"We're good. We both said some stupid things and I wasn't as understanding as I should've been," Seonghwa said with a frown. He sighed and glanced down at Hongjoong's flushed face, brushing his hair back softly and rearranging the cloth.
"When he's feeling better you can talk. Use the few days we have at the island to reconcile," Yeosang said.
"We already kind of did but he wasn't feeling great so yeah, I'll talk to him when he's better. How's San going? I talked to him yesterday and he seemed to be alright but you and Wooyoung are the ones that will know better," Seonghwa said.
"He had a nightmare last night but he's feeling a lot better. It isn't uncommon for us to get nightmares unfortunately," Yeosang said with a sigh.
"I might check in on him again today, make sure he's alright," Seonghwa said nervously.
"You should stop feeling so guilty Hwa, you didn't do anything wrong," Yeosang said.
"I was one of the people that was telling Hongjoong off for looking after San. I didn't even wait to be try to find out what had happened and then after finding out what happened, I still yelled at Hongjoong for it," Seonghwa said guiltily.
"Yeah well none of us care, it's all in the past. San actually wanted me to tell you to stop being so uptight and skittish and that you remind him of a frightened animal at the moment," Yeosang said, making Seonghwa chuckled lightly.
"He should be enjoying this, I can't say no to him at the moment," Seonghwa pointed out.
"This is San we're talking about. He's not one to take advantage of other people," Yeosang said.
"True. Tell Wooyoung to cook something nice tonight, we'll all eat together," Seonghwa said. Yeosang grinned and nodded before leaving the quarters. Seonghwa let out a breath and tightened his grip around Hongjoong's waist, hugging him softly. He snuggled down and let his eyes slip closed, relaxing against his boyfriend.
~~~~~
"Hey Sannie, mind if I join you," Mingi yelled out as he walked over to the bottom of the crows nest. He chuckled fondly as San's pink haired head peaked out over the top of the crows nest.
"Come up, I need my Mingi cuddles," San said with a grin. Mingi quickly went over to the ladder and climbed up, jumping into the box and sitting down beside San. He opened his arms and San leaned over into them, cuddling into his side.
"You've been up here for a while. Are you ok," Mingi asked softly.
"I'm fine Mingi, it's just relaxing up here," San said with a chuckle.
"Come on, get up," San said, standing up and grabbing Mingi's hand, tugging him up as well. Mingi has never been too keen on heights but he knows he's safe and he doesn't really have a fear of them.
"Look at how beautiful it is," San said softly, grabbing the edge and leaning gently as he looked out across the sea. Mingi glanced at as well, seeing the water sparkling as the sun shined down on it.
"It does look pretty," Mingi agreed with a nod.
"Is that why you come up here so often," Mingi asked.
"One of the main reasons but I also have to come up here sometimes to make sure there's no danger around us, which you already know," San said.
"Do you ever get lonely up here," Mingi asked him gently.
"I usually try to get Yeosang and Wooyoung to come up here sometimes but most of you aren't too keen to come up here," San said with a shrug. Mingi frowned at that, noticing the slight hint of sadness in San's voice. He quickly stepped up behind him, wrapping his arms around his waist and resting his chin on his shoulder. San smiled softly at that leaning back against Mingi's firm chest. Mingi smiled softly and tightened his arms around his waist, starting to rock him gently.
"Hey, can we have some real talk for a bit," Mingi asked quietly. San furrowed his eyebrows in confusion but nodded.
"I'm sorry, for what happened the other night," Mingi said.
"Gigi, it's ok. We've already talked about this," San said softly.
"No we haven't San, not properly. I apologised but we haven't had time to talk one on one," Mingi said with a sigh. San understood that this was something that was really concerning Mingi so he turned around and leant back against the side of the crow's nest, allowing Mingi's arms to continue to rest around his waist though only gently.
"What Wooyoung did was stupid, but I also went along with him. It was a really shitty thing to do to practically force you to come and then to just abandon you when it didn't suit us," Mingi said with a sigh. San remained quiet, knowing that Mingi still had more he wanted to say.
"I know the worst that could've happened didn't end up happening but it very well could have. I let you down when you needed it and that's on me. And for that I am truly sorry," Mingi said sincerely.
"I'm gonna be honest with you and say that what you two did was most definitely not ok but I'd rather not dwell on what ifs. But having said that, you two have definitely learnt your lesson and won't be doing it again and that's enough for me," San said with a nod. Mingi sighed but nodded, letting out a small, relieved smile.
"I'm glad you forgive me but I'm still going to do some things to try and make up for it," Mingi said. San smiled at that and nodded quickly.
"I'm never one to say no to some pampering," he said. Mingi chuckled and moved his arms up, wrapping them around his shoulders and pulling him into a hug. San went willingly and wrapped his arms around Mingi's waist, hugging him tightly and laying his head on his chest.
"Omg, Wooyoung stop it!" Both Mingi and San let go of each other in confusion and looked down at the helm to see Wooyoung in front of Yunho, giggling as he held the wheel to navigate the ship. Wooyoung turned to face Yunho and pouted.
"Sannie let's me help navigate all the time," Wooyoung whined. Yunho turned around and looked up at San who was grinning.
"You indulge him too much. He's spoilt and thinks he can get away with everything because you let him," Yunho said.
"Not my fault he's a brat. I do the same thing with Yeosang and he doesn't act like that," San said with a shrug.
"I am not a brat," Wooyoung said. The other three remained silent at him and just deadpanned.
"I hate all of you," Wooyoung said, pouting again. Mingi and San chuckled as they both climbed down from the crow's nest and went over to Yunho and Wooyoung.
"I'll take over Yun, you've been navigating for a while so you should have a break. I'll deal with Youngie," San said.
"Thank god. Mingi, can you come help me with something," Yunho said. Mingi and Yunho left, leaving Wooyoung and San alone. San turned around to face Wooyoung who was already looking at him and pouting.
"Go ahead," San said with a chuckle. Wooyoung grinned and turned around and grabbed the wheel, San stepping up behind him to help him steer. Wooyoung preened happily at how easily San caved.
~~~~~
"Jongho, can you go get Seonghwa and Hongjoong and tell them dinner is ready," Wooyoung said as he grabbed the pot off the stove and brought it over to the table. Jongho nodded and got up, leaving the kitchen and going over the Captain's quarters. He knocked on the door and opened it slowly, glancing inside to find them both awake and sitting on the bed, Hongjoong cuddled up in Seonghwa's arms.
"Wooyoung wanted me to tell you guys dinner is ready. How is Hongjoong feeling," he asked.
"I'm alright. The fever is gone I think but I'm just really tired," Hongjoong said quietly.
"Well if Seonghwa hasn't already told you, we're going to the island you were talking about so we can relax for a few days and you can have time to get your energy back up," Jongho said with a shrug.
"Thanks Jjong," Hongjoong said with a small smile.
"Do you two want some help," Jongho asked.
"Yes please," Hongjoong whispered. Jongho moved quickly, making sure not to draw too much attention to the fact that Hongjoong was accepting help so willingly as he knows he finds it embarrassing sometimes. Jongho helped Hongjoong down to the kitchens with Seonghwa beside them, hovering around worriedly. Everyone else was already sitting down and ready and they went quiet when the others arrived.
"I'm not dying guys, stop looking so uptight," Hongjoong said with a weak chuckle. The atmosphere with everyone has been quite tense the past few days so Hongjoong hopes that stopping at this island for a bit will help lose those tensions. There is no way he's going to let them go after a dangerous crew unless they're all working together seamlessly. He's not going to put them in a situation where they can't work together and many of them can get hurt. San got up from his chair and quickly walked over, directing Hongjoong to a chair and sitting next to him. San moved his chair closer and moved his head to rest on Hongjoong's. Hongjoong let it go without question, knowing San could very well be shaken up from previous events for a while and sometimes it's best to have that extra comfort.
"Wooyoung, what did you make for dinner," Hongjoong asked as Seonghwa and Jongho sat down.
"I made some soup, cos you aren't feeling well," Wooyoung said quietly. Truthfully he still feels really bad about how he acted with Hongjoong and he desperately wanted to make sure Hongjoong wasn't still very made at him. He hates being a disappointment, especially to Hongjoong.
"That's kind of you Wooyoung, let's all eat alright," Hongjoong said, reaching across the table to affectionately clip Wooyoung's ear. He can read Wooyoung like a book and he knows exactly what is going on inside his head. Everyone started eating and the conversation slowly picked up, everyone just chatting and relaxing.
~~~~~
When dinner was finished, everyone left the table to continue doing other things while Wooyoung took the dishes to clean them. Hongjoong was feeling a bit better and had a lot more energy after eating properly.
"Seonghwa, I'm going to go and check up on Wooyoung," he said quietly. Seonghwa glanced over from where he was sitting at the other end of the bed before nodding.
"I'll be here when you get back. We'll need to talk Joong," he replied gently. Hongjoong nodded and bent down, placing a delicate kiss to the top of Seonghwa's head before walking out of the quarters. He went back to the kitchens to find Wooyoung still working on cleaning the dishes.
"You know I'm still proud of you," Hongjoong said softly. Wooyoung jumped and spun around in surprise, not having heard anyone walk inside. He mulled over his words for a few seconds before looking down towards the ground.
"I didn't mean to hurt Sannie," he whispered.
"I know you didn't. You never would have done that on purpose but it was still a stupid thing to do," Hongjoong said.
"I know, I know," Wooyoung said, bringing his hand up to grab his hair.
"I don't know why I did it Hongjoong, I was just an absolute idiot. I'm so sor-."
"Wooyoung take a breath. You don't have to apologise to me, you didn't do anything wrong with me. The only person you needed to apologise to is San and I have no doubt you already did that," Hongjoong said, cutting him off.
"I did and he accepted it but I know it isn't enough. I'm still trying to make it up to him. I mean I don't know how many times he has risked his life to protect me, even when we were kids but I couldn't even make sure he got home safe," Wooyoung whispered.
"But you know that it was wrong, right and you aren't going to do it again are you," Hongjoong asked.
"Of course I'm not, it was stupid and I would never do it again," Wooyoung promised.
"Then that's ok Wooyoung. I was mad at you yes, but it was more just in the heat of the moment. I won't apologise for getting angry because it was valid but I do apologise for yelling at you without explaining things," Hongjoong said.
"It was valid Hongjoong. I know the others may have gotten annoyed at you but all you were doing was protecting Sannie," Wooyoung said.
"I appreciate it Wooyoung because I wasn't just trying to be angry at people. If I wasn't there then San could've gotten hurt. And I know that's a lot for you to bear but it's true," Hongjoong said softly.
"I know it's true," Wooyoung said quietly.
"I'm sorry for disappointing you," Wooyoung said quietly. Hongjoong's heart broke at the youngers words and he sighed. They all make mistakes, some big like this, others smaller but it's bound to happen. Wooyoung's always looked up to Hongjoong as a sort of father figure given that he never had a proper one that love him and Hongjoong does his best to look after the younger.
"You haven't disappointed me Youngie. You just upset me a little ok," Hongjoong said.
"I'm sorry. I don't want to be a disappointment," Wooyoung said sadly, feeling his eyes well up with tears. He didn't want to cry again but the fear of disappointing his captain was overwhelming him.
"It's ok Woo, you aren't a disappointment," Hongjoong said quickly, noticing how the youngers eyes were watering up slightly.
"I'm sorry Captain," Wooyoung whimpered. Hongjoong's eyes widened and he quickly shook his head.
"Wooyoung, you didn't do anything wrong by me, you haven't disappointed me. You upset me as your brother, not as your Captain," Hongjoong rushed out quickly. Wooyoung whimpered again and shook his head, curling up slightly and Hongjoong cursed internally.
"Wooyoung come here and give me a hug," Hongjoong said quickly. Wooyoung sniffled but slowly shuffled over and held out his arms. Hongjoong stepped forwards and hugged him tightly, tugging him into his arms and holding him tightly. Hongjoong stepped backwards to lean against the bench so he could rest there while holding Wooyoung. Wooyoung tried not to cry but a sob choked out before he burst into tears. Hongjoong sighed and tightened his hold on Wooyoung, lifting one hand up to the back of the youngers head to brush his hair softly.
"Shh, just breathe Wooyoung," Hongjoong whispered softly. Wooyoung tried to breathe and calm down but he couldn't so he just held onto Hongjoong tightly.
"Come on, let's go lay down in my quarters alright," Hongjoong whispered. Wooyoung sniffled but nodded and Hongjoong quickly slipped his arm under Wooyoung's knees and scooped him up. Hongjoong was instantly hit with a wave of pain in his body from the exertion, but he pushed it away. He's just walking to his quarters, he can survive. He carried Wooyoung quickly, nudging the door open with his hip. Seonghwa looked up as soon as the door opened and he gasped when he saw Hongjoong walking in with Wooyoung in his arms. One because Wooyoung was obviously crying but two because Hongjoong barely has enough energy to walk let alone carry one of the boys. Hongjoong moved over and placed Wooyoung on the bed before stumbling as his energy levels lowered but Seonghwa was right there beside him in an instant, helping him onto the bed as well. Hongjoong quickly shuffled over and pulled Wooyoung into his arms against his chest and rubbed his back softly. Seonghwa glanced over at them before deciding to stay back and let them work it out, moving over to sit on the chair by the desk.
"Just take a deep breath Wooyoung, it's ok. I promise I'm not mad at you anymore and you haven't disappointed me," Hongjoong said firmly. Wooyoung choked out a sob and clung tighter to Hongjoong, burying his head into his neck. Hongjoong just sighed and continued to hold him, allowing him to cry it out. After a few more minutes, Wooyoung finally managed to calm himself down so he was just letting out a few more sniffles.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't be crying like this," Wooyoung whispered.
"That's ok, you can cry. What do I always say about discipline and when I tell you guys off," Hongjoong asked.
"You tell us off when it's needed but it's only so we know that we've done something we shouldn't do. It's never to make us feel worse off afterwards," Wooyoung said quietly.
"That's right. I never like seeing you guys upset or hurt. What happened has been dealt with and you have learnt your lesson so now it's just a matter of making sure you don't continue to be overrun by guilt," Hongjoong said softly, brushing Wooyoung's hair back from his forehead gently. Wooyoung sniffled before letting out a breath and nodded.
"I don't think that's going to be happening any time soon, I feel awful," Wooyoung admitted sadly, his eyes welling up once again. Seonghwa stood up and walked over to them, having been listening in from where he was sitting.
"We don't want you feel awful Wooyoung, no one wants that and San certainly wouldn't want that," Seonghwa said.
"I know that and it's what makes it worse. I love Sannie so much and what I did was awful," Wooyoung said.
"Wooyoung, it was a bad judgement call but we all know that it wasn't something you did deliberately. If it was deliberate then it would be a totally different story and I would be pissed but it wasn't," Hongjoong said. Wooyoung shook his head and lifted his hand up to wipe the tears away from his eyes. Seonghwa sighed and leaned over, patting the top of Wooyoung's head softly.
"Have you talked to San about this," he asked softly.
"Yeah but San is too forgiving. He just tells me not to worry about it. It sounds so bad when I say this but he just says it's fine and it makes me feel even worse," Wooyoung said quietly.
"I understand that but you need to talk to San about this. What he is doing is just trying to make you feel better and not worry as much but he's doing the opposite. You need to talk to him about it and tell him how you're feeling," Seonghwa said softly.
"He went through a lot, I shouldn't be making things worse," Wooyoung said shaking his head. He shouldn't bother San with this because he doesn't have the right to.
"Come on, let's go and see San," Seonghwa said.
"No, it's fine, I'll be fine," Wooyoung said quickly.
"Nope, it's obvious you're feeling horrible about this and we're about to stop at an island to relax. You can't relax when you're feeling so bad about this," Seonghwa said. Wooyoung sighed but nodded in resignation. The three of them got up and left the quarters, Seonghwa staying close to Hongjoong to make sure that he's there if he starts to feel faint. They walked down below deck and Hongjoong knocked lightly on San's door. There was some shuffling around but a few seconds later the door opened.
"Joong, what's wrong," San asked.
"This little one isn't feeling too great and needs some extra reassurance," Hongjoong said, nodding to the side. San glanced behind him to see Wooyoung standing there with teary eyes and he frowned.
"Don't worry, I'll look after him. Thank you," San said quietly, holding out his hand. Wooyoung reached out and grabbed it and San tugged him inside the room, nodding to the two eldest before closing the door. He tugged Wooyoung over to the bed and sat down, dragging Wooyoung to sit beside him.
"Talk," he said quietly.
"It's fine," Wooyoung replied quietly.
"No it isn't. If it was fine you wouldn't be crying right now," San said, cupping his cheek and brushing the tears still on his face with his thumb.
"I'm so sorry San," Wooyoung whispered.
"Oh Wooyoung, we're back to this again? I've already told you I forgive you Wooyoung," San with a sigh. San's tone seemed harsh and his stomach dropped slightly. This was the last thing he wanted, to annoy San even more.
"I-I'm, it's fine. I was, I'm jus-."
"Wooyoung I'm not angry right now or frustrated. I'm sorry, that came out sounding harsher than I meant it to. I'm just worried that this is going to weigh on you far too much. It was a mistake you made but it isn't the end of the world. All of us have made costly mistakes Wooyoung, you can't hold onto that alright," San said gently.
"I know but it's you San. You and Sangie are my family, have been since I was a child. I just can't believe I would do that to you," Wooyoung said quietly.
"We've talked about it Wooyoung and we both have acknowledged that it was a silly mistake that you won't do again," San said.
"Yeah I know but I just hate that I did that," Wooyoung said quietly.
"Come on, give me a hug," San said softly as he held out his arms. Wooyoung let out a small smile and leaned forwards, falling into San's arms and hugging him tightly.
"I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too Woo, so much. Give yourself some slack now ok," San whispered, leaning down to kiss the top of Wooyoung's head.
"Can I sleep here with you tonight," Wooyoung asked quietly.
"Of course you can. You can sleep with me whenever you want," San replied instantly. Wooyoung smiled softly and quickly took off his shoes, socks and coat before lying down on the bed, San following him quickly. The candle was still burning softly in the background but they decided to leave it, curling up against each other. San gently pushed Wooyoung's head to rest on his shoulder, buried against his neck.
"Just get some rest Woo, everything's ok," San whispered.
~~~~~
Hongjoong and Seonghwa went back to their quarters after making sure Wooyoung and San were going to be ok. Hongjoong flopped back down on the bed, letting out a breath of relief to finally be off his feet.
"You sound like an old man," Seonghwa said as he sat by Hongjoong's feet, making the younger chuckle. Seonghwa pat his lap and Hongjoong quickly moved his feet to rest on it. Seonghwa gently took off Hongjoong's shoes and then his socks before massaging his calf's gently.
"You don't have to do that Hwa," Hongjoong said quietly.
"I want to so I'm going to. Can't let you get cramps you old man," he said. Hongjoong laughed at that and shook his head.
"You're so mean. I'm your boyfriend, you should be nice to me," he scoffed. Seonghwa sighed and bit his lip nervously before looking up.
"Am I still your boyfriend," he asked with a small voice. He hasn't talked to Hongjoong properly when he's been in the right state of mind and he knows he overreacted and upset the other. He loves Hongjoong with his entire heart and it would be devastating if Hongjoong didn't want to be with him anymore. Hongjoong sat up in an instant, startled as his heart pounded.
"Are you breaking up with me," he rushed out quickly.
"What no, I love you. I'm asking if you're breaking up with me," Seonghwa replied.
"No, are you stupid? I love you more than anything, why would I break up with you," Hongjoong asked with a frown. The day he breaks up with Seonghwa is, well, never.
"Because of how I acted. I yelled at you unnecessarily," Seonghwa said. Hongjoong groaned and ran his hand through his fair. This is why he doesn't want the kids going to taverns because it always seems to cause other issues. He has half a mind to ban them from taverns after this. He shuffled forwards and wrapped his arms around Seonghwa's neck, crawling into lap and bending down, connecting their lips softly. Seonghwa let out a breath of relief and kissed him back softly. Hongjoong tilted his head to deepen the kiss and Seonghwa reached up and placed his hands on the smaller hips, drawing him closer. They kissed for a few more seconds before Hongjoong drew back and rested his forehead against Seonghwa's. He smiled softly and pecked his lips one more time before drawing back more to look at Seonghwa properly. He reached his hands up to cup Seonghwa's face, looking into his eyes.
"I love you, so damn much. We argue sometimes just like we did a few days ago but that will never ever change the way I feel about you ok. Never," Hongjoong said firmly. Seonghwa smiled softly and nodded, rubbing Hongjoong's circles into his hips softly.
"Don't you ever even let the thought that I would break up with you cross your mind again ok my love," Hongjoong said softly.
"I was just worried," Seonghwa said quietly.
"Well don't be. I thought we talked about this the other night? You said some arguing is healthy. I apologised to you remember," Hongjoong said.
"Well yeah, but you were also quite out of it so I didn't really take it all to heart. Plus I had time to think about everything and I know for sure that you weren't in the wrong and I was," Seonghwa says.
"That doesn't mean I wouldn't want to be with you Hwa," Hongjoong said.
"I know, I just kind of panicked about it," Seonghwa whispered. Hongjoong hummed softly and leant down, leaving a delicate kiss to Seonghwa's neck. Seonghwa relaxed at that and slipped his arms around Hongjoong's waist, drawing him right up against him before flopping back to lie on the bed with his head against the pillow and Hongjoong lying on top of him.
"How're you feeling," Seonghwa asked.
"I'm tired but I think the sickness has passed. I can't wait until we get to the island and relaxed for a couple of days, we really need it," Hongjoong said with a sigh.
"Should we ditch the kids to go to the cave and relax in the rockpool," Seonghwa asked with a grin. Hongjoong giggled and nodded into his chest.
"I think a bit of adult relaxation time would be nice without the kids nagging us. We can relax in the warm water and enjoy the silence," Hongjoong said. Seonghwa nodded and pulled Hongjoong back down, allowing the younger to tuck his head under his chest and lay his legs on either side of his body.
"Have I ever told you how comfortable you are," Hongjoong said tiredly, yawning softly.
"You have but it always makes me happy to hear it," Seonghwa said with a small smile.
"Well you're really comfortable. You're my own personally pillow," Hongjoong whispered making Seonghwa chuckle.
"Get some sleep you dork. We should make it to the island tomorrow," Seonghwa said. Hongjoong yawned again before nodding and letting his eyes slip closed. The two of them quickly drifted off to sleep, wrapped up in each other's arms.
