Chapter 9

Hongjoong's body felt like it was weighed down by something heavy, his ears blocked as if he was under water. He tried to gather his thoughts, make sense of what was happening but all he could focus on was the pain in his head and his back. His vision was black and it took him a few seconds to realise that was because his eyes were closed. He tried to open them but it felt like they were held down with lead, no attempt managing to get them to open even a crack. He held back a whine, trying to move any part of his body but it wasn't cooperating with him. He felt helpless and the feeling of helplessness scared him. He tried even harder to peel his eyes open but it wasn't working, it just felt like he was trapped in an endless abyss.

'You can do it Joongie, I know you can.' Hongjoong's mind jolted at the soft voice, latching on to it desperately.

'Seongie?'

'You've got this, just open your eyes Joongie.' Hongjoong fought harder to move, to open his eyes until finally, they slipped open. He closed them almost instantly however as the sudden brightness hurt his eyes and he had to close them. He felt disorientated and beyond confused. What exactly was going on? Wasn't he supposed to be getting married? Why is he suddenly laying down. He shifted his head to the side, looking around the room he was in. He was on a bed, that much he had gathered from the feeling beneath his back despite the pain. He continued to look around but he couldn't figure out where he was. He didn't recognise the walls, nor anything else from the room and he didn't understand how he got there. He tried to sit up but he was hit by a sudden wave of pain, his head pounding and his back aching. He let out a whimper and flopped back down onto the bed, panting in pain. He was hurt and confused, not sure where the pain was coming from or what had happened but then the memories came back and he remembered.

It was his wedding. He and Seonghwa were getting married and Seonghwa looked beautiful walking down the aisle. But something happened, they never finished the wedding. There was a ship, it came out of nowhere. But why was there another ship? What was the ship there for. He remembered yelling for everyone to get down, the sounds of cannons going off. He was with Seonghwa but then he got flung away and it hurt, a lot. He was hurting but he could hear screaming, hear more bangs all around. He was in pain and alone but he saw the others, they were getting up, most of them anyway. He can't remember much after that, he had passed out so he didn't see anything else. He didn't see anything else so he doesn't know what happened, he doesn't know what happened to the boys.

He started to panic at the thought of not knowing what happened to the boys, his kids, Seonghwa, if they were ok. No one was expecting to have to fight, on account of the fact that they were on an island that was supposed to be a safe-haven. They didn't have any weapons on them which means they were already at a disadvantage. His heart started to race, his breathing quickening. He pushed himself up in bed, ignoring the pain shooting through his head. It hurt but he was far too worried about the rest of the boys to care. He placed his feet down on the floor, stumbling almost straight away with how dizzy he felt but he grabbed the side of the bed to steady himself. He whimpered, trying to calm himself down but he couldn't help it, he was scared. He needed to know that they were ok, he needed to make sure none of his crew was hurt. He glanced around the room, noticing the doorway at the end of it. He quickly let go of the bed and stumbled out, hurrying towards the doorway. He smacked the curtain away, tripping and falling to the floor as he hurried through.

"HONGJOONG." Hongjoong glanced up to see San rushing over with wide eyes.

"Oh my god, Joong, you're up," he said in shock, grabbing Hongjoong's arm and tugging him gently to his feet. They had all been taking it in turns to keep an eye on Hongjoong but he hadn't expected him to just come crashing out of the room like this. Hongjoong gasp, his hands shakily coming up to cup San's face. He's ok, one of his boys are ok.

"S-Sannie," he stuttered out, his knees giving out as he collapsed. San yelped but tightened his grip around Hongjoong to hold him up so he wouldn't crash to the ground.

"I've got you, I've got you. You're ok," San rushed out, slowly lowering them to the floor so as to not allow Hongjoong to get hurt more.

"N-No, the others. Where are the others," Hongjoong rushed out hurriedly. His heart was still racing and he desperately tried to stand up to go search for the others but he couldn't get his legs to co-operate. He needed to find them, to make sure they're ok.

"Joong, Joong, you need to calm down," San said quickly.

"San, where are they? What happened," Hongjoong begged with a sob. He needed to know. He needed to make sure they were ok. Why aren't they here?

"Hongjoong, I will explain everything to you in a little bit but first of all, I need to get you back into bed. You are hurt and you shouldn't be straining yourself like this," San said quickly.

"Sannie please," Hongjoong begged, curling up slightly in the young navigators arms. San fought back tears as he tried to calm Hongjoong down from his panic, knowing full well that panic would increase tenfold once he found out the truth.

"I know but I need to get you into bed first. We aren't in danger right now," San said.

"No, I need to find them," Hongjoong resisted.

"Captain please. I need to get you into bed and then we can figure everything else out," San begged. Hongjoong wasn't happy about it and continued to resist but San managed to drag him back into the room while he cried. San grunted slightly but tugged him up and managed to pull him back onto the bed. Hongjoong cried out in pain and clutched firmly to San's shirt as his head pounded and San did his best to try and soothe him.

"Where are they," Hongjoong sobbed in worry.

"What's going o-. Hongjoong," Yeosang gasped as he rushed into the room. He had heard crying and sobbing and rushed in to see what was going on.

"Oh my god, you're awake," he said as he hurried over.

"Sangie, baby," Hongjoong sobbed, reaching out to him. That's one more, one more of his crew that are ok.

"Sangie where are they, is ev-everyone ok," Hongjoong cried out, the tears continuing to stream down his face. Yeosang's eyes widened before he quickly schooled his expression. Hongjoong is clearly panicked enough, he doesn't want to scare him even more.

"I need to know what happened, I need to make sure they're ok," Hongjoong said.

"What you need right now Hongjoong, is to let me check up on you to make sure you're ok," Yeosang said firmly, his eyes nervously flitting to San. Hongjoong continued to cry but San managed to half hug him to stop him from moving too much while Yeosang did his best to check over the elders back and head but Hongjoong just wouldn't calm down.

"STOP IT. WHERE ARE THEY? I WANT SEONGHWA, WHERE'S HWA. SEONGIE," Hongjoong screamed before sobbing harder, clutching both of San's shoulders with his hands.

"I want Seongie," he whimpered shakily. San quickly pulled him into a hug, trying to calm him down but it wasn't working.

"Hongjoong, please try to calm down," San begged.

"Seonghwa," Hongjoong whimpered weakly. He wouldn't calm down and San panicked.

"Yeosang, go get the others," he said quickly.

"Wh-What," Yeosang stuttered out, his head snapping up to look at San in panic. Why the hell would he tell him do to that. They both know full well that Seonghwa is gone and when Hongjoong realises that, he's going to be even more devastated than he is now.

"Go get them Yeosang," San repeated. Yeosang was still apprehensive, not knowing what to do, his eyes flitting between San and Hongjoong. San quickly pulled away from Hongjoong who whimpered but San continued on. He grabbed Yeosang's arm and tugged him to the doorway before lightly pushing out of it.

"He needs them," he whispered. Yeosang was still apprehensive but he nodded before running off. San drew in a deep breath before going back over to the bed and sitting down. Hongjoong immediately sniffled before lunging forwards and hugging San tightly.

"Thank you," he whispered with a sniffle, calming down slightly as he understood the others were coming. He would see them and make sure they're ok and then he can cuddle with Seonghwa and calm down.

"You're going to be ok," San whispered, trying not to showcase the intense panic he was feeling. He just told Yeosang to go and get everyone else and that has calmed Hongjoong down but he knows full well that Seonghwa isn't going to be there. Seonghwa is gone and Hongjoong doesn't know but when he finds out, he's going to absolutely freak. He just hopes his idea to have all of the other boys there might help soften the blow a little bit. Hopefully having them all there will help him feel supported and allow him to feel some form of comfort. Hongjoong sniffled and cuddled closer to San, holding him tightly. San shakily hugged him back, drawing in a deep breath to calm himself down.

They remained as they were for a few minutes before San started to hear hurried footsteps and his stomach dropped. This was it, this was the moment where everything would come crashing down. Hongjoong looked up quickly, his hand clenching in San's shirt as his heart continued to race. They're coming. They're ok and they're coming and he's going to see that they're all fine and everything will be ok. The curtain was shoved to the side as Wooyoung rushed in with tear filled eyes, hurrying over. Hongjoong instinctively let go of San, holding out his arms as he let out a sob. Wooyoung rushed into them and hugged him tightly, bursting into tears. The tears were both from the relief at finally seeing Hongjoong, their Captain awake but also due to the fact that Hongjoong's world was about to be shattered. Yeosang had said Hongjoong hadn't been told about Seonghwa which means they're going to have to tell him now.

"You're ok," Hongjoong cried, clinging tightly to the back of Wooyoung's shirt. Wooyoung whimpered and buried his head into Hongjoong's shoulder, wanting to try and block out what was about to happen. Once Hongjoong consoled Wooyoung a little bit more, he looked up to see the others who had walked in. Yeosang was bag, his head downturned and his shoulders hunched slightly but he was ok. Yunho was standing up straight, his posture tense but his gaze firm. Mingi was next to him, his eyes sad and his hand fisting Yunho's sleeve but once again, ok. Hongjoong's gaze then flit back to Jongho who was leaning slightly against Yeosang. His face was pale but other than that, he seemed mostly ok. Hongjoong felt himself with every face he saw, relieved that his crew was ok. His eyes continued to search the room, looking for the person he most desperately needed to see but he couldn't find him.

"Where's Seonghwa? Is he out doing something," he asked slowly, trying not to panic. It's fine, he's fine. He's going to be here, there's no need to panic. Everyone went silent at that and Hongjoong searched their faces quickly.

"Guys, where is he? Where is Seonghwa," he rushed out, hearing Wooyoung whimper against him. Yunho was the one that stepped forwards, walking over before sitting down slowly on the side of the bed. He wasn't happy about it but he knew it was his responsibility to inform Hongjoong about what had happened as he is the next in command over the others.

"Yunho. Yunnie, where is he. Where is Seonghwa," Hongjoong said, his voice going higher in panic with every word.

"He's alive Joon-."

"WHERE IS HE. WHERE THE FUCK IS HE," Hongjoong screamed in panic as he shoved Wooyoung from his arms. Wooyoung yelped and crashed to the floor before beginning to sob. He hates seeing the boys hurt and he hates hearing them cry, but it's worse when it comes to Hongjoong because he always to try and control his emotions and keep up a strong front. San slipped off the bed quickly, knowing right now it was a good idea to steer clear of Hongjoong and give him some space. He quickly tugged Wooyoung up and tugged him away, hugging him tightly to try and calm him down.

"He was taken Hongjoong. He wasn't hurt to my knowledge but they took him. Half of us were hurt and there were too many of them so we couldn't stop it because he was so close to the shoreline," Yunho explained.

"No. No, no, no. No, you're lying. You're lying. We were, we were getting married. It was a beautiful day, a day of happiness. He, he can't be gone. He can't be gone," Hongjoong rambled out, shaking his head as he stood up. His head was pounding so harshly but the fear was gripping his heart more.

"We're going to get him back Hongjoong, we're going to find him. They won't kill him, they can't. They're going to use him as leverage," Yunho said quickly.

"He's gone? Why didn't, why didn't any of you stop them. Why didn't you save him," Hongjoong cried out. Yunho stood up and reached out for him but Hongjoong smacked his hand away, backing up until he hit the wall and he broke down. He collapsed to the floor, harsh sobs escaping his lips as he cried and screamed. His hands came up to grip his hair, grasping it tightly.

"Hongjoong, we tried. I promise we tried," Yunho said quickly.

"Captain we're going to get him back," Yeosang added.

"YOU DIDN'T PROTECT HIM. HOW COULD YOU," Hongjoong screamed. San quickly grabbed Mingi's arm and tugged both him and Wooyoung from the room, knowing the two didn't handle distress like this well. Yunho wasn't happy with the anger but he understood it completely and knew better than to say something about it. Hongjoong needed to let it all out rather than internalise it.

"We're going to get him back," Yunho said firmly. Hongjoong didn't listen, just curled up more, turning his head into the wall as he continued to sob and scream.

"Wh-What do we do," Jongho asked nervously, not used to seeing the Captain this distraught. Yunho sighed and knelt down slowly, keeping a safe distance away from Hongjoong.

"Hongjoong, try to take a deep breath for me," he said softly.

"GET AWAY FROM ME," Hongjoong screamed. Yeosang's heart broke as he heard the pain in Hongjoong's voice. He couldn't imagine how he would react if he woke up one day and San or Wooyoung were suddenly gone and they weren't even getting married.

"Please Joong, you need to try to calm down. You're going to pass out," Yunho said desperately. Hongjoong's head snapped over to face him, his eyes red as tears streamed down his face though they were narrowed with anger.

"Did you just tell me calm down," he asked, his voice scarily level. Yunho stood up quickly and stepped back, knowing he had just messed up with what he was saying.

"MY HUSBAND IT GONE YUNHO. YOU LET HIM GET TAKEN SO DON'T YOU DARE TELL ME TO CALM DOWN," Hongjoong screamed, grabbing the closest thing to him which was a shoe and threw it at Yunho who swiftly dodge it before turning to the other two.

"Leave, I'll call you back once it's settled down," he said quietly. Yeosang wasn't too keen but he also didn't want the youngest to continue watching their Captain to have a melt down. He grabbed Jongho's arm and gently tugged him out of the room, leaving Yunho with Hongjoong. Yunho drew in a deep breath to brace himself before walking towards Hongjoong. He dropped down beside the older and wrapped both his arms tightly around his body. Hongjoong screamed and struggled, trying to get out but Yunho just held him tighter. Hongjoong continued to scream and struggle for another minute or two before finally calming down slightly. He let out another whimper before losing some of the tension in his body, sagged back against Yunho as he sobbed quietly.

"There we go, just let it out. I've got you," Yunho said softly, tugging Hongjoong closer. Hongjoong turned his body, leaning into the comfort Yunho was showing him. Both his head and heart were aching so he needed the comfort. He turned his head into Yunho's shoulder and cried. Yunho sighed and tugged Hongjoong up into his lap, wrapping his arms around his waist and continuing to hold him close.

"I've got you," Yunho whispered, resting his head against Hongjoong's lightly. He rubbed his hand up and down his back, trying to give him as much comfort as he could though he knew it wouldn't change anything. Hongjoong just continued to cry and cry for another 10 minutes until they slowly went quiet and he relaxed in Yunho's hold. Yunho lifted his head and glanced to the side, finding Hongjoong's eyes closed and his face lax. It was only then that he finally let out the tears he had been holding in for so long. He cried and cried while hugging Hongjoong tightly in his arms. Once he let the first tears fall, the rest were quick to follow and wouldn't stop. He made sure to remain silent while he cried, not wanting to wake Hongjoong up. He allowed himself to cry quietly for a few minutes before pulling himself together. He slowly and gently sat up, holding onto Hongjoong as he got to his knees before standing up. He carried Hongjoong over to the bed before gently laying him down on the bed and pulling the blanket over his body. He went to pull away but Hongjoong whined in his sleep, clinging tighter to Yunho. Yunho murmured a gentle reassurance, rubbing Hongjoong's side before slowly removing his arms from around his neck. Once he was done, he let out a breath and stepped back. He quickly left the room, going out into the other open space to find the others. They were all sitting on the couches, Wooyoung cradled in Yeosang's arms.

"He calmed down a bit but he's asleep now," Yunho informed them.

"Should we give him some space or do you think it would be better to be there with him," Jongho asked.

"Be there with him. He needs to know that he's got support," San said immediately.

"Ok, come on," Jongho said, standing up. Mingi got up as well and followed him while San glanced at Yeosang and Wooyoung.

"I've got him this time," Yeosang said quietly, nodding to San. He knew that San needed to be there for Hongjoong, Hongjoong needed him there.

"You've got this," San asked back quietly and Yeosang nodded. Yunho watched the exchange curiously, remembering what he saw earlier with Wooyoung and San. San quickly turned and walked towards the room, Yunho following behind him after one last glance to Wooyoung and Yeosang. San paused in the entrance and turned to Yunho.

"Your eyes are red, you were crying," he said quietly.

"I know but I'm ok. I just needed to let it out briefly," Yunho said. San nodded before slipping his hand into the olders and tugging him into the room. Yeosang watched them leave before tilting his head down to look at Wooyoung in his lap. Wooyoung was still sniffling and crying quietly, his hand fisting Yeosang's shirt. Yeosang sighed and dropped his head down, lightly nuzzling his nose into Wooyoung's hair. Wooyoung whimpered and tightened his hold around his neck.

"It's going to be ok," he whispered.

"We don't know that Sangie. For all we know, Hwa could be dead right now. We don't even know who they are or where they're going," Wooyoung cried.

"Hey, don't think like that. We're going to find him, I just know it. Sannie mentioned he recognised the inscriptions on the side of their ship so that's a start," Yeosang said softly.

"I'm scared. We've never had anyone get taken before. We've never not known what was going to happen to them," Wooyoung said.

"I'm scared as well but we need to be strong ok, we need to have hope," Yeosang said.

"Sangie he has trauma with this though. Out of everyone, getting taken will hit Seonghwa the most. He was captive for three years before we got him out. He was so bruised an thin, don't you remember," Wooyoung said sadly as he lifted up his head to look at Yeosang with teary eyes. Yeosang sighed at that, remembering just how bad of a condition Seonghwa was in when they first found him.

"If anything that makes him stronger. He survived three years under the tyranny of that monster. He is strong, we all know he is strong. He's been through it before but this time he knows we're going to be here waiting for him on the other side. He has hope this time Wooyoung," Yeosang said firmly, cupping Wooyoung's face and gently wiping his tears with his thumb.

"We will find him," Yeosang said. Wooyoung could tell he was trying to show a strong front for him but he could tell from the look in his eyes that he was just as scared as he was. Wooyoung sniffled before reaching up and hugging Yeosang tightly again.

"We will find him," he said with a nod.

"Come on, we should go in and make sure we're there for Hongjoong when he wakes up again," Yeosang said, tapping the back of Wooyoung's thigh lightly. Wooyoung nodded before slipping off Yeosang's lap and standing up. Yeosang stood as well, grabbing Wooyoung's hand and gently guiding him back to the room.

~~~~~
The boys were taking turns in switching who was laying down with Hongjoong. It was when it was Mingi's turn and he had the small Captain cradled safely in his arms that he started to stir slightly. Mingi's eyes snapped open and he glanced down, finding Hongjoong's face in the darkness. Hongjoong peeled his eyes opening, noting the body behind him so he turned slightly and looked up, making out Mingi's frame.
"Hey, you doing ok," Mingi asked slowly, not really knowing what to say in this situation. Hongjoong raised an eyebrow, feeling the need to say of course he is not ok but he already knew how badly Mingi handles situations like this so he let it go. He shook his head and rested his head on Mingi's shoulder as he burst into tears, trying to keep it quiet as he knew the others were sleeping.
"How long has it been, since he was taken," Hongjoong asked quietly. Mingi tensed at that, biting his lip nervously.
"A week," he whispered. Hongjoong shot up with a gasp, looking at Mingi with wide eyes.
"A week? They took him a week ago," Hongjoong whimpered.
"Why haven't we gone after them yet," he added quickly.
"We couldn't Hongjoong. We had half our crew down, two of which were our Captain and Quarter master," Mingi said. Hongjoong frowned at that, glancing over at the boys surrounding the bed. He loves Seonghwa and he always wants him safe and unharmed but he also loves the rest of his boys.
"Who else was hurt and how bad," he asked quietly.
"Uh, Yeosang got a slice on his arm that healed up pretty quickly. Jongho got stabbed in the shoulder and lost a lot of blood but Enhypen helped to stitch him back up. I was only mildly hurt but I'm fine now," Mingi said.
"That left only three. It's understandable but I still hate it," Hongjoong said quietly, leaning his head back down onto Mingi's shoulder with a sniffle.
"And that is understandable as well," Mingi whispered.
"We didn't even get to finish our vows. Why did this have to happen. Why to us? Why to my love," Hongjoong whimpered, letting out a small sob. Mingi's heart broke and his tightened his grip around Hongjoong's shaking shoulders. He felt his own eyes get watery but he held it back, just allowing Hongjoong to cry into his shoulder and neck. There was some movement in the room and a few seconds later the bed dipped.
"Shh, we'll get him back and we will redo the ceremony," San said softly as he cuddled up to Hongjoong's back, wrapping an arm around his waist.
"You promise," Hongjoong asked shakily.
"I promise. We're going to get him back, no matter what," San said firmly. It may be a wishful promise but it is a promise he is going to do everything in his power to keep. He loves both Hongjoong and Seonghwa and he can't bear to see Hongjoong in this state nor to sit by while knowing Seonghwa was somewhere all alone probably getting tortured or not being treated right.
"We're going to get him back," he whispered.
