Chapter 6

"How're you feeling," Hongjoong asked softly as he sat down on the bed beside Wooyoung.

"A lot better than a couple of days ago. Seonghwa says I'm recovering well," Wooyoung replied softly. Hongjoong toed off his shoes before shuffling properly onto the bed, leaning against the headboard. He held up one arm and Wooyoung eagerly curled up into his side. Hongjoong let his arm drop down, gently peeling Wooyoung's shirt up to see the stitches. There was bruising around the stitches and it was slightly inflamed but it was looking much better than when he came back bleeding three days ago.

"It seems to be healing quite nicely," Hongjoong said softly, leaning down to press a kiss to Wooyoung's forehead. Wooyoung hummed and nuzzled closer to Hongjoong's neck.

"You did good Wooyoung. San told us what happened and I just wanted you to know that you did well," Hongjoong said quietly. Wooyoung glanced up at him with a shy smile before sighing.

"I almost got both San and I killed though," he said with a sigh.

"It wasn't your fault Wooyoung. It wasn't anyone's fault but San mentioned he may have made you a bit later then you were supposed to by accident," Hongjoong said.

"San said that? Sannie wasn't the one that slowed us down, I was. Sure we were a little late but we would have been fine if I didn't hang back at the stall. I noticed something that looked nice for Sangie and it took up time, time that let that man catch up to us," Wooyoung said.

"I wasn't there so I didn't see what happened, this is just what San told me," Hongjoong said.

"Wait, but San really thinks that? He thinks that it's his fault I got hurt," Wooyoung asked, sitting up quickly. He winced slightly at the sharp pain that shot through his stomach but it was only for a second and left quickly.

"Around about that. Hasn't he talked about it with you," Hongjoong asked with a frown.

"No, not really. Whenever he comes here he just holds me and is really quiet. Which makes sense now I guess," Wooyoung said quietly.

"You two should probably talk," Hongjoong said with a sigh.

"Could you go get him please. I don't want him to stew on things any longer, especially if he thinks it's his fault. He'll be beating himself up inside," Wooyoung said with a frown.

"Sure, I'll go get him," Hongjoong said with a nod. He slipped out from under Wooyoung, helping the younger relax against the pillow he propped up. He kissed Wooyoung's forehead softly before leaving the room. He walked up onto the deck before going over to the helm where as usual, San was standing and steering the ship.

"San, I'm relieving you," Hongjoong said as he walked over. San frowned and turned, glancing at Hongjoong as he raised an eyebrow.

"Already? I've only been out here for a few hours," San said.

"I know but Wooyoung asked me to get you, he wants to talk to you," Hongjoong said. San's heart clenched and he gripped the wheel tighter, his jaw tensing.

"I can talk to him later," he said. Hongjoong frowned at that and tugged San from the wheel. He was being stubborn and he was acting guilty because there was no way he would refuse to go see Wooyoung when he was requested, especially when he's hurt.

"San, pull yourself together. Wooyoung is hurt right now and he needs to talk to you. Since when would you leave him high and dry," Hongjoong asked with a frown.

"I just, I feel bad," San whispered.

"I know you do, that much anyone can tell. Even Wooyoung knows that and it's worrying him. He's hurt and now he's stressing so pull yourself together and go talk to him," Hongjoong said. San sighed but nodded, stepping away fully.

"Fine," he said quietly.

"I've got this handled, you go and talk to him," Hongjoong said. San nodded before leaving. He fiddled with his fingers nervously the whole way down to Wooyoung's room before pausing by the door. He drew in a deep breath for some courage before opening the door and slipping inside. Wooyoung's face lit up as soon as he saw him and San's heart skipped a beat. He closed the door quickly before moving over to the bed, climbing in beside Wooyoung while not meeting his eyes. Wooyoung quickly moved around and crawled into San's lap, moving him around and wrapping his arms around his waist as he placed his back against the navigator's chest. San slowly let out a breath tightening his hold around Wooyoung, being careful of his injury. He dropped his head down, resting his chin against the youngers shoulder.

"So, are you ever going to talk to me," Wooyoung asked, starting the conversation.

"I've talked to you," San said quietly.

"Barely," Wooyoung scoffed. San sighed and nuzzled further into Wooyoung's neck, kissing it softly.

"Hongjoong told me that you said it was your fault that I got hurt," Wooyoung said.

"Well it kind of was. I got distracted kissing you and I made us late. If we hadn't of stopped then we wouldn't have been caught," San said.

"I stopped in the stall for a moment to grab-."

"A choker for Sangie. I know, he showed me," San said with a nod.

"That's the reason why I ended up getting caught, not you," Wooyoung said.

"I appreciate it Wooyoung but the only reason why anyone saw us in the first place was because we were late and lost the element of surprise," San said.

"Why are you so hell bent on beating yourself up about this, on proving your guilt," Wooyoung asked, turning his head to look back at San.

"Because I couldn't protect you," San said sadly, his voice breaking slightly at the end.

"Sannie, you did protect me, and you protected me well. You saved my life," Wooyoung said.

"Twice over. You stopped him from stabbing me the second time, the first time of which you had no way of stopping. And then you patched me up as best as you could and you got me back here," Wooyoung said, leaning his head to drop down onto San's shoulder.

"I still should've protected you better, stopped you from getting hurt at all," San said.

"Come on San, that's unrealistic and we both know it," Wooyoung said with a frown.

"Perhaps," San said with a sigh.

"I don't want you to be feeling guilty about this. I don't want you worried," Wooyoung said.

"I know but I can't help it," San said with a sigh.

"Stop being so noble San, you can't always protect everyone all of the time," Wooyoung said.

"I know that but it doesn't mean I can't try my hardest," San said with another sigh.

"Lord knows you will try," Wooyoung said with a nod.

"But I'm ok San. We did what we needed to do and we got what we wanted. We all survived, even if I may end up with another cool scar, so there is nothing to worry about," Wooyoung said firmly. San nodded and tilted his head to the side, resting his cheek against Wooyoung's.

"You really scared me Woo. I was running and trying to keep you talking but then you just stopped replying and you went so limp. You've been way too close to death too many times and it stresses me out," San said, letting out a breath.

"We all have San, it's just what comes with being a pirate," Wooyoung said softly.

"I know and I don't regret it whatsoever but sometimes this life worries me," San said quietly.

"I know it does. I think it worries all of us at times, even Hongjoong but as long as we've all got each other, we're going to be ok," Wooyoung said.

"Of course. I love you," San said softly, tugging Wooyoung up a little and kissing his bare shoulder where his shirt had fallen slightly.

"I love you too," Wooyoung said, snuggling closer and curling up slightly.

"Get some rest now. I'll stay with you until the morning," San said softly.

"Are you sure? Don't you have to navigate," Wooyoung asked.

"Of course. Hongjoong can navigate for a bit so we can spend time together," San said. Wooyoung nodded and let his eyes slip closed, curling up further as the two of them slid down to lay properly.

~~~~~
"Easy does it. I swear if he pulls a stitch I am going to whack you," Yeosang said, watching Mingi slowly guide Wooyoung over to the table.
"I am fine Sangie, really," Wooyoung said with a chuckle. Mingi gently helped him sit down, Yunho stepping up to help as well.
"God, I feel like such an old grandpa," Wooyoung said with a chuckle as he leant back on the chair.
"You're hurt Wooyoung, don't stress too much. Your stitches will be able to come out by the end of the week and then it will only be another couple of weeks before you're fully healed," Seonghwa said, patting Wooyoung's head softly.
"Will I be ok healed in time for the wedding? It's less than a month away," Wooyoung asked worriedly.
"Oh sweetie, don't worry about that. You just focus on getting better," Seonghwa said quickly.
"But I want to get better before the wedding. I want to be able to walk around the wedding and to celebrate with you guys," Wooyoung said worriedly.
"And don't worry Woo, you will be able to. If you just relax and don't move around too much, you'll definitely be able to," Seonghwa said.
"He's right, you'll be healed up in no time," Yeosang assured him as Hongjoong and Jongho came out with two large pots.
"Ooo, how delightful. What have we got," Wooyoung asked, sitting up a bit more.
"Um, we've got some soup, that's all I could really make to such a large quantity," Jongho admitted.
"Smells delicious," Wooyoung assured him. The others all nodded as well, not wanting Jongho to feel bad when he's the one that stepped up. Yunho quickly started to scoop the soup into everyone's bowls while Mingi and Yeosang cut up and buttered the bread.
"Oh my god Jjong, this is amazing. You have got to help me when I make soups from now on," Wooyoung said happily as he scoop some of the broth into his mouth.
"It's only soup Wooyoung, nothing special," Jongho said with a raised eyebrow.
"Shut up and let me compliment you," Wooyoung mumbled between a mouthful of bread.
"Ok, ok," Jongho conceded. Wooyoung smiled happily and continued eating, making Jongho hold back a chuckle. It made him happy to see Wooyoung smiling again. He may stay in the background most of the time, not one for hugs and comfort but it terrifies him when one of his older brothers get hurt. When he saw Yunho come over the edge of the ship with Wooyoung limp in his arms, he was so scared that he was going to lose him. But now that he's here, smiling and laughing as if nothing was wrong, it meant he was going to be ok.
"He's right Jongho, it tastes very nice," San said with a smile, drawing Jongho's attention away from Wooyoung.
"Thanks," he said, smiling happily at the praise.
~~~~~

"Can someone help get Wooyoung back downstairs please," Hongjoong asked.

"I'll do it," Jongho said quickly as he stood up.

"Yay, a big strong man to woo me away," Wooyoung said, making everyone chuckle while Jongho rolled his eyes.

"Sorry to burst your bubble but this strong man isn't going to woo you away in anything except my amazing help when needed," Jongho said, making Wooyoung giggle. Jongho held out his arm and Wooyoung wrapped both arms around it. Jongho gently tugged up, bracing his other arm around Wooyoung's waist to help guide him from the chair. Wooyoung clung close to him, wincing slightly which made Jongho slow down.

"You ok," Jongho asked worriedly.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Wooyoung said with a nod, flashing him a small smile.

"Alright, come on then," Jongho said gently. Wooyoung nodded and they took slow steps towards the staircase, Jongho paying close attention to Wooyoung's movements.

"There's no need to rush, we can just take it as slow as you need," Jongho said. Wooyoung smiled softly, leaning into Jongho who immediately wrapped his arms around the cook's shoulders.

"Aw, you care." Wooyoung said softly.

"Yes Wooyoung, I care. Of course I care," Jongho said with a frown.

"It was a joke," Wooyoung said quietly as they reached the stairs.

"Hold my hands," Jongho said softly as he turned to face Wooyoung and took a step back on the staircase. He held out his hands and Wooyoung grabbed them softly.

"One step at a time. Let's go you cripple," Jongho said with a grin. Wooyoung giggled but followed along, taking one step at a time until they got to the bottom of the stairs.

"I've got you, almost done," Jongho said. Wooyoung groaned but continued hobbling into his room as Jongho held open the door.

"In you go," Jongho said. Wooyoung got to the bed and Jongho helped him into it, holding the blankets up so that Wooyoung could slip under them. Jongho gently tucked the covers over him.

"You should get some more sleep," Jongho said.

"Ok," Wooyoung said with a yawn.

"It's uh, it's good to see that you're doing better. You heard what Seonghwa said, you'll be good to go in no time if you rest properly," Jongho said.

"Yeah, ok," Wooyoung said with a nod.

"Good. Now make sure you actually take his advice and don't make anything worse," Jongho said sternly.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Wooyoung said, rolling his eyes.

"How's your ankle feeling by the way? You haven't talked much about it," Jongho said.

"It's doing really well. I may have lightly tweaked it when I fell the other day but it really isn't that bad," Wooyoung said.

"Did you tell Seonghwa about it," Jongho asked.

"No but I'm making sure not to walk around on it a lot or to strain it if I can avoid it," Wooyoung said.

"You should still probably tell Seonghwa though. It's not a good idea to hide something like this from him. Or even Yeosang given that he's the actual medic. The only reason he wasn't primary originally was because you were so critical that he wasn't able to think straight," Jongho said.

"Yeah, he tends to get like that when I'm hurt. I think he knows that Seonghwa is capable of helping so he let's himself worry more," Wooyoung said quietly. Jongho sat down on the edge of the bed and nodded with a sigh.

"I don't know how he manages to stay composed usually. I swear, when I saw you my heart stopped. You were so pale and you weren't moving in Yunho's arms," Jongho said sadly. Wooyoung frowned, noticing the worry on the youngest's face and gently slipped his hand into his, giving it a light squeeze.

"I'm ok though, Seonghwa patched me up real good," Wooyoung said.

"I know, we're lucky that we've got two very talented medics to look after us," Jongho said. Wooyoung nodded, letting out a breath and squeezing Jongho's hand again.

"Hey Jongho," he said softly. Jongho turned to him and gave him a light nod to continue.

"Can you stay with me tonight please," Wooyoung asked hopefully. Jongho isn't one to generally sleep next to someone as he likes to have space and sometimes gets too hot beside people but Wooyoung is hurt and he's been worried about him.

"Sure," Jongho replied with a nod. Wooyoung's face lit up and he quickly shuffled over, lifting up the blanket for him. Jongho slipped off his shoes and slowly crawled under the blankets, making sure not to accidentally jostle Wooyoung as he didn't want to cause him anymore pain.

"I'm not glass Jongho," Wooyoung said with a giggle.

"Until you're fully healed up and not in pain, you are glass and we need to be careful around you," Jongho said firmly. Wooyoung smiled happily and curled up into Jongho's side, resting his head on the gunners broad shoulder.

"I love the odd occasions when we get to cuddle you, you're so comfortable," Wooyoung mumbled. Jongho chuckled fondly and ruffled his hair lightly.

"Let's get some sleep," Jongho said softly. Wooyoung grinned happily and nodded, nuzzling his head into the part where Jongho's neck met his shoulder and letting his eyes slip closed.

~~~~~
"Hongjoong, why don't you come to bed," Seonghwa said quietly as he glanced over at where Hongjoong was working on his desk. Everyone had gone off to bed about an hour or two ago but Hongjoong was still working on something by his desk. Seonghwa was already laying in bed, patiently waiting for Hongjoong to join him however it was taking a long time.
"I will, I've just got to get this finished," Hongjoong muttered as he continued looking over some maps.
"Joongie," Seonghwa whined.
"Stop it," Hongjoong snapped and Seonghwa sat up. Hongjoong rarely snaps at him, if ever. He's usually good at controlling his emotions and doesn't take his anger out on others.
"Sorry," Seonghwa said quietly, lying back down and rolling over to face the wall. He doesn't enjoy sleeping alone but it was clear Hongjoong would be a while and he didn't want to annoy the Captain any further. Hongjoong paused what he was doing and glanced over at Seonghwa, feeling bad for snapping. He felt even worse when he noticed that Seonghwa had turned away and was curled up by himself. He sighed quietly before stopping what he was doing and putting his things away. He then got up and removed his shoes, socks and shirt before walking over to the bed. He lifted the blanket and slipped under it, shuffling over to Seonghwa's back so he could hug him from behind. Seonghwa didn't say anything but he did lean into the hug, tilting his head back slightly.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have snapped at you," Hongjoong apologised quietly, placing a soft kiss to Seonghwa's neck.
"It's fine. I should know better than to bother you when you're working," Seonghwa said quietly. Hongjoong frowned at that, rolling Seonghwa over so that they were facing each other.
"I don't ever want to hear those words leave your lips again do you understand me? You are never a bother, never. My frustrations should never be taken out on you or the others and I want you to pull me up when I do," Hongjoong said firmly. Seonghwa smiled softly and lifted his hand, lightly trailing his finger down the curve of Hongjoong's face.
"It's fine Hongjoong, you don't need to stress so much," he said quietly.
"I am going to stress because you won't. I don't want to be the kind of person that doesn't treat his husband right, you don't deserve that," Hongjoong said. Seonghwa giggled at that, smiling happily.
"I love the sound of that. Your husband," he whispered. Hongjoong huffed out a fond chuckle, unable to resist smiling at Seonghwa's words.
"I love the sound of it as well. It's less than a month away Seongie, then we'll be married," Hongjoong said, grabbing Seonghwa's hand and lifting it to kiss it softly.
"I'm still sorry by the way," he added quickly.
"I know and it's ok, I forgive you," Seonghwa said, shuffling closer and resting his head on Hongjoong's chest.
"What're you wearing," Hongjoong asked, making Seonghwa scoff.
"I'm not allowed to tell you that and you know it. Don't be sneaky, you can see on the day," Seonghwa said. Hongjoong whined before huffing and remaining silent for a few seconds.
"Can you at least tell me what my reaction to it will be," he asked.
"Oh you're going to die. 100% know you're going to struggle to keep your hands to yourself," Seonghwa said with a shrug. Hongjoong gasped and sat up, looking down at Seonghwa who was grinning smugly.
"You cannot just tell me that and then not tell me what you're wearing," he said.
"I can and I just did. Have fun picturing things in your head," Seonghwa said. Hongjoong let out a loud groan and flopped down on top of him just as there was a knock on the door.
"Oh. Oh sorry, forget it."
"Come in Yeosang," Hongjoong said, sitting up and looking to the door. It opened slowly before Yeosang's head poked inside with his hand covering his eyes. He slowly peeled his fingers back to peak inside before dropping it down with a breath of relief.
"What on earth are you doing," Seonghwa asked with a raised eyebrow of confusion.
"Just making sure the two of you are decent," Yeosang said with a shrug as he walked in and closed the door.
"We're decent," Hongjoong said, rolling his eyes while Seonghwa chuckled quietly.
"What's up? I thought you were supposed to be asleep," Hongjoong added.
"I am but I can't sleep. Wooyoung is sleeping with Jongho and San is navigating so my go to sleep buddies when I can't sleep are unavailable, Yeosang said.
"What about Mingi or Yunho," Hongjoong asked.
"I thought about you guys first but if you want alone time, I can go," Yeosang said.
"No it's fine, you can come sleep here if you'd like to," Seonghwa said quickly. Hongjoong nodded and slipped out of bed, allowing Yeosang to quickly slip into the bed beside Seonghwa before Hongjoong got back in as well. The two of them settled down so the two eldest were cuddling Yeosang in the middle.
"Is there a reason you can't sleep," Seonghwa asked softly.
"Kind of. I keep seeing Wooyoungie dying. San couldn't get him back in time so he bled out," Yeosang said quietly. Hongjoong sighed at that, curling closer to Yeosang and holding him tighter. They've all had their fair share of nightmares over the years, it's hard not to with their occupation but it still never fails to rattle them when they experience them.
"He's doing well. San did get him back into time and you and I got him patched up quite quickly, there's nothing to worry about," Seonghwa said.
"I know that but sometimes my brain decides to forget. I'm fine really, I just wanted some company," Yeosang said quietly.
"That's perfectly fine, we're more than happy to have you here," Seonghwa said.
"Especially Seonghwa, he loves doting on you kids," Hongjoong said with a nod.
"Hey, you don't admit it but you do it just as much," Seonghwa said with a pout.
"I do not," Hongjoong scoffed.
"You kinda do Joong. But that's ok because we love it," Yeosang said, offering a hesitant smile. Hongjoong glared at him before rolling over.
"I refuse comment," he said. Yeosang giggled and wrapped his arms around Hongjoong's waist, hugging him from behind.
"Sorry, but it's true," he said with a shrug.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Hongjoong said.
"Are you a bit grumpy now," Seonghwa asked with a grin.
"No, I feel insulted," Hongjoong replied in faux annoyance.
"You'll get over it," Yeosang teased.
"I hate you all, seriously. I'm not kidding, I need a new crew," Hongjoong groaned, burying his face into his pillow to growl. Yeosang and Seonghwa didn't give him any reassurances, just burst into laughter and pat his back. As annoyed as they were, Seonghwa was right, he secretly loved it and he wouldn't change it for the world.
