park seonghwa.
"Y/N, the prince is looking for a wife today!" Your mom announced as she ran into your bedroom.
You looked up at her. "That's nice, Mom."
"Well? Don't you want to go and be a candidate?"
"Mom, you know we don't come from a wealthy family. Besides, there are better candidates than me."
Though you did take a liking to the prince of your kingdom, you knew he wouldn't pick you as a wife when the time came, but you were understanding of that. You had talked to him a few times, since he wandered around the kingdom. He's a very nice prince, he's respectful, he's funny, and he's extremely handsome.
"Just go anyways." She sighed.
"Fine, only because I want to get out of the house."
And you wanted to see the prince.
She clapped as she left your room, making you chuckle. You started getting ready to go to the Palace, picking out your best dress to wear over there. After you were completely ready, you grabbed your belongings and headed out.
As you walked down the street, several people said hello to you, as you were fairly known around the kingdom. When you reached the Palace gates, you bowed to the guards and headed inside the large open doors of the royal residence.
"Y/N!"
You looked down to see one of the younger children that you played with in the town center.
"Hello, Miyoung. What are you doing all alone?" You questioned.
"My sister is off in the front somewhere, trying to make the prince fall in love with her. Are you here for the prince?"
You chuckled. "I just came to watch, really."
"I bet the prince would love you. You're so sweet and pretty."
You grabbed Miyoung's hand and headed to the snack area. "Thank you, Miyoung."
By the snack table, there was a group of three smaller kids, children that you knew.
"Y/N!" They yelled once they saw you.
They attacked your legs, making you laugh. "Hi, guys. Are your sisters here for the prince?"
They all nodded sullenly. "Well, why don't I make you guys some food and we sit at one of the tables."
They all nodded excitedly as you made their food, handing their plates to them so they could go sit down, and you gladly sat with them.
Little did you know that the prince watched the whole thing. He smiled to himself watching you care for the children that were left behind by their older sisters. The few times he spoke to you, he really could sense how caring you were for other people. He really liked you, and felt that you would make great princess material, but he didn't want to put you in that position if you didn't want to be.
He made his way down the stairs, toward the table you and the four children were seated. "Good evening, Y/N."
You looked up and smiled brightly, bowing your head at him. "Hello, Prince Seonghwa. How are you today?"
He smiled at you. "A bit worried that I won't find my princess in that group."
You and the children followed his gaze to the large group near the thrones, where Seonghwa would sit and choose his wife. Miyoung frantically tapped your shoulder.
"Y/N, you're not in that group! Maybe you're his princess."
Your cheeks got hot, knowing that the prince heard that.
You shyly looked up at him and laughed. "Sorry about that."
"No, it's quite alright." He replied, checking his watch. "So sorry to end the conversation, but I should make my way to the throne."
"Oh, absolutely. Good luck."
He smiled at you kindly, and when you looked away, he glanced at Miyoung, nodding his head at her. She covered her mouth with her hands and kicked her feet excitedly. He chuckled as he put his index finger to his lips, telling her not to tell you.
When you heard the trumpets start playing, you and the kids turned to watch as the event began.
"Ladies and gentlemen. We welcome you to Prince Seonghwa's marriage event, and good luck to you all." The King announced.
There were at least one hundred girls lined up for Seonghwa. He would speak to them for a moment and ask them a few questions, and he would give them a sweet compliment before kindly rejecting them. You could tell he felt bad by the way he pouted slightly, but when the next girl came up, he would smile at them.
After he rejected the last girl in the group, you were slightly confused. You weren't sure why he didn't pick someone, there were tons of sweet and beautiful women in that group that would surely make a wonderful princess.
The prince sighed as he sat back in his throne. "Son, why didn't you pick anyone?" The Queen questioned.
"I already have my eyes on someone." He replied.
The King leaned forward. "Who?"
The Prince directed his parents attention to you and the children at the table, cleaning up the mess you all made.
"She obviously isn't from a wealthy family. Why would you fancy her?"
Seonghwa looked at his father. "Would you rather have a stuck up princess that makes everyone in the kingdom miserable, or a princess that's absolutely wonderful and brings joy to everyone in the kingdom?"
"He's right. Look how happy those children are around her." The Queen spoke up.
The King sat back and observed as the sisters of the smaller children came up to you. The royal family watched as you hugged the four girls that had just been rejected, and hugged the little ones as well.
"She's very caring, and I think she'd make a fantastic princess." Seonghwa said.
The Queen nodded. "I agree."
"Well, go to her then." The King smiled
Seonghwa smiled and hopped off his throne, making his way down to you. When he reached you, he tenderly grabbed your hand, making you turn around.
"You scared me!" You laughed.
"Sorry, Y/N." He smiled. "Can we step in here for a moment?"
He gestured toward big doors. You nodded and he opened the door for you once you got there. You stepped inside, seeing you were in a beautiful hallway with lush carpet and beautiful chandeliers.
"The reason I didn't pick anyone from that group was because," He paused, making you tilt your head. "I really like you."
Your eyes widened, and you couldn't stop the blush on your face. "I like you too, but you're the prince, Seonghwa-"
He cut you off by gently pressing his lips to yours in a sweet kiss, which you gladly returned and indulged in.
He pulled away and put his forehead against yours. "And I want you to be my princess."
You smiled and pulled away, just so you could look at him. "Okay."
His jaw dropped slightly. "Really?"
"Yes, really." You laughed.
He giggled and pulled you into his chest, just as the doors opened. You looked over and gasped, pulling out of Seonghwa's grip so you could bow at the King and Queen.
"I take it she said yes?" The Queen asked.
Seonghwa nodded happily and The King walked over to you. "Congratulations."
"Thank you, sir."
The Queen walked up and put a hand on your shoulder. "Honey, call us Mom and Dad."
You were shocked as you nodded. They walked off and Seonghwa came up to you, grabbing your hand. He kissed your cheek, making you look at him and smile.
"Welcome to the royal family, Y/N."
