Everyone looked at you curiously as you walked through the halls, sucker in your mouth and one hand in the pocket of your leather jacket. The girls watched you enviously and the boys watched you as if they were undressing you with their eyes.
As you turned the corner, you almost bumped into a guy, but you both stopped in time to avoid that happening. "Watch it, new girl."
You scoffed. "Watch your mouth, pretty boy."
You walked past him as he gave you a look, you laughing to yourself. You, being the new girl, were curious as to how he knew you were new, but you didn't care enough to ask. At one point during the day, you found that you had a class with him when he walked in five minutes late. He tried to sit next to you, but you put your foot up and didn't look at him, but you could see the smirk on his face as he walked away.
At the end of the day, you were walking out to your car when a girl from that certain class came up next to you. "Did you really stop Jung Wooyoung from sitting with you."
"Yeah." You shrugged. "What's your damage?"
She furrowed her eyebrows. "What?"
You sighed. "What's your problem?"
"He's totally cute, and he wanted to sit with you! It was just rude to shoo him away like that."
"And it's rude that you're telling me who I should and shouldn't sit with. Bye."
She scoffed loudly and walked away from you, so you got in your black Audi and headed home. You parked in your driveway and snuck into your bedroom window to avoid seeing your dad, locking your bedroom door. You changed out of your clothes and laid on your bed to look out your window. As you started to fall asleep, you heard a loud banging on your bedroom door.
"Open up, sweetheart!"
You shut your eyes and pretended to be asleep as he pounded on your door, harder and harder. Eventually you heard the door bust open and in stumbled your father. You did your best to act like you were asleep, but he knew when you were lying.
"You know it's rude to ignore your father, Y/N." He whispered. "Have some respect."
He grabbed your ankles and pulled you off of your bed, making you catch yourself with your hands. Something hard hit you across your temple and you gasped as you avoided eye contact with your father.
"Next time you better answer me, child."
He slapped your cheek, like someone would if they were trying to see if someone was conscious or not, and left your room. You forced yourself up and looked in the mirror, where a large red spot from where he hit you was forming. There would definitely be a bruise.
You sighed angrily and grabbed your keys, slipping your leather jacket on and slipping out of your window. Your father heard your car start from inside, but he didn't care enough to get up. You headed to a convenience store you saw while moving in and parked your car outside. You fluffed your hair to cover your temple as you walked inside, your hands in your pockets.
As you walked to the candy aisle to get a sucker, you saw a group of kids from school, including the boy you almost bumped into, Wooyoung. They all looked at you and you gave them a glance, turning your back to them and heading for the drinks. While you were checking out, you heard the bell to the store ring but didn't look up. After checking out, you walked outside to see everyone looking at your car.
"Is this yours?" Wooyoung asked.
You unwrapped your sucker and nodded as you put it in your mouth. You grabbed your keys from your pocket and poked him in the side with it, moving him away from the driver side door.
"You just came here for a drink and a sucker?" One girl asked.
"Yep." You replied as you opened your door. "Not for a conversation."
She rolled her eyes and you got in your car, locking the doors and starting it. You waved to Wooyoung with a sarcastic grin on your face and backed up, going in the complete opposite direction of your house. You'd be staying in a hotel.
For a week or so, you'd sneak back to your house to grab things you needed, then you'd go back to your hotel room. At school, everyone started asking about you. Who's the new girl? I wonder why she's so mysterious? Are her and Wooyoung a thing?
Wooyoung would give you these looks during school, ones that always made you roll your eyes. At lunch, you didn't really like sitting with anyone, but this time, Wooyoung and his friends decided to sit with you.
"Hey, Y/N."
You looked up from your food and gave him a curt nod. "What's up, pretty boy?"
"Why do you sit alone all the time?" He asked.
"Why do you always bother me?" You asked. "There is an abundance of people who would rather you talk to them than me."
"Who doesn't want to talk to Wooyoung?" Jinni, one of his female friends, questioned.
"I don't, you ditz." You sighed.
"See?" Jinni pouted. "I told you she talks weird."
You rolled your eyes and got up, throwing your trash away. Wooyoung followed and walked out of the cafeteria with you.
"How did you get that Audi?" He asked.
"With money, pretty boy. How else?"
"It doesn't look like you could pay for an Audi-"
"Watch it, Wooyoung."
He stopped in his tracks and grabbed your arm. "What makes you think that you can come to this school and act all high and mighty?"
"I don't. I just don't like people getting in my business." You pulled your arm out of his grip. "Don't touch me."
At the end of the day, you found Wooyoung near your car again. You walked up to your door and gave him a look, but he just smiled.
"Are you going home?" He asked.
"Yes?"
"Let me ride with you-"
"No."
He scoffed. "I'm trying to get to know you, Y/N."
"No, you're just trying to figure out what I'm about so you can gossip to your friends."
"Y/N, come on."
You looked at him for a moment, then sighed. "Whatever."
He clapped and ran to the passenger side, getting in your car. You drove out of the parking lot and wondered if you were really about to take him to the hotel you were staying at. It's not that you cared what he would say, you just didn't like people knowing too much information about you. When you pulled up to the nice hotel, Wooyoung looked at you with a questioning glance.
"You stay in a hotel?"
You nodded and both of you headed inside, up to your hotel. You opened the door for him and let him in, leaving the door cracked open just in case something happening.
"So, I never got to ask you," Wooyoung trailed off as he looked around the room. "What was that bruise on your temple from?"
You shrugged. "I probably fell or something-"
"Y/N!"
Your heart dropped and you shoved Wooyoung into the bathroom. He was asking what was happening but you just kept telling him to shut up. Your cracked door opened completely and your father came in.
"Who raised you not to come home, Y/N?"
"You."
He laughed. "I know where you're staying now, so maybe I'll crash here."
"No, you won't."
He raised an eyebrow and walked up to you, grabbing your shoulders. He pushed you into the wall with a force that knocked your breath away. His fist made contact with your face, busting your lip open again and surely leaving a bruise in its wake.
"You and your momma were so alike," he whispered. "I hated her, too."
You pushed him off of you. "Get out." He didn't budge. "Get out!"
He blew you a sarcastic kiss to you as he shut your hotel door, and Wooyoung slipped out of the bathroom. "Y/N?"
"What?"
"Look at me." You looked at him and his expression dropped. "Did he-"
"You know, I think it's time for you to go." You said. "I'll drive you home."
The drive back to his house was quiet and awkward. He didn't know what to say to you, but you finally spoke up when you parked outside of his house.
"Don't talk to anyone about that." You said. "Okay?"
He nodded. "I won't. If you need anything, you can call me."
"Thank you, but I'm good."
He got out of your car and headed to his front step as you drove off. His mom watched your Audi disappear and looked at her son.
"Who was that, Wooyoung?"
"I don't really know, honestly."
You got a new hotel room and new looks from Wooyoung. He was no longer making his teasing faces at you, but his sympathetic ones. You would rather his teasing faces, you didn't want pity from him. You never should have taken him to the hotel in the first place.
Everyone started asking about the bruise by your mouth, and you told them that you got in a fight with a friend. Only Wooyoung knew that was a lie.
"Hey, Y/N?"
You looked back to see Wooyoung walking up to you, so you slowed your pace to match his. "Yes?"
"My mom really wants to know who the girl with the black Audi is." He told you. "Do you wanna come visit?"
"Wooyoung, I don't need your pity. I'll pass."
"I'm not pitying you, Y/N. I'm trying to be your friend."
"Yeah, you keep saying that-"
He pulled you into a hug and cut you off. You weren't sure how to react, so your hand found his back and rested there.
"I keep saying that because it's true. I want to know who you are, not to gossip about it, but to be a friend."
"Fine, I'll come visit."
So, after school, you and Wooyoung drove to his house, him walking inside first. "Wooyoung, what did she say- oh, hello!"
His mother had turned around mid sentence and saw you, smiling sweetly. "Hi."
"I'm very glad you could make it." Mrs. Jung said.
You nodded. "Me, too."
"Wooyoung!"
You looked up to the stairs, where a little girl was running down them. She saw you and stood next to Wooyoung. You smiled and waved, making her smile and do the same.
"I'm Jinsol, Wooyoung's little sister." She said. "What's your name?"
"Y/N."
She grabbed your hand and started dragging you up the stairs. You looked back at Wooyoung, who was shrugging with a smile on his face. Jinsol took you up to her room, so you sat criss cross across from her. She started pulling out her dolls and toys.
"My brother doesn't really bring girls over." She said. "But him and my mom wanted you over for dinner."
"Well I can assure you that there's nothing special about me." You said as you picked up a doll. "I'm just the girl with the black Audi."
She pursed her lips. "I don't know, Y/N. The way Wooyoung talks about you is really different."
"How old are you, Jinsol?"
"Ten, but I know my stuff."
You laughed and leaned back on your palms. "He's a nice guy, we just bumped heads for a little while."
"You guys don't have a problem anymore?"
"Oh, no. I'll still punch him if he steps on my toes." You replied.
Wooyoung smiled from outside his little sisters door, where he was quietly listening to the conversation. He fixed his hair and opened the door.
"Dinner's ready."
All three of you headed downstairs and sat with Mrs. Jung at the table. Everyone made their plate and began eating. You couldn't remember eating an actual home cooked meal ever since your mother passed away. Wooyoung's mom asked several questions, but you didn't mind.
Towards the end of dinner, she finally asked. "Can I ask what that bruise is from, honey?"
"Oh," you paused. "My friend and I got into a bad argument."
Wooyoung looked down at his plate, and his mom took notice of that. "Is that the truth?"
You nodded, but Wooyoung shook his head. "Her dad did that. I heard all of it."
The room got quiet.
You put your fork down and sighed, slowly standing up as Mrs. Jung looked at you. "Thank you for inviting me for dinner, but I should head out."
Jinsol pouted. "Bye, Y/N."
You mumbled a bye and walked out of the front door, finding that it was raining. As you were about to get in your car, Wooyoung came outside and ran over to you.
"Y/N, I'm sorry-"
"That wasn't you're business to tell."
"I know, but lying about it isn't going to make it go away." He said.
"I don't like people knowing, Wooyoung." You told him. "I don't want anyone's pity. I can handle myself."
"It doesn't matter if you can handle yourself or not, abuse is unacceptable. You need a place to stay where you know you're going to be safe."
You looked at him, searching his eyes for something. "Are you asking me to live with you?"
"Yes."
"No. I'm okay."
You opened your car door, but he shut it. "Stop, Y/N. Do you really want to be drifting from hotel to hotel, hiding from your father? Or would you rather stay here and know that you'll be safe?"
"I want to be safe." You whispered.
"Then live with us." He said. "Plus, my family already likes you."
You closed your eyes as the rain soaked your hair even more. "Okay, but just for a little bit."
He smiled and grabbed your hand excitedly. "Who knew the girl with the black Audi would end up living with me?"
