because i love you
Yeosang held Wooyoung close to his chest, rubbing his back. He knew his boyfriend got sad or felt like crying at times, so he tired his best not to bother Wooyoung, even if Yeosang's days felt forced and empty despite having Wooyoung boyfriend living with him.
"Shhh, I feel you. I really, really understand what you mean. Let it out," Yeosang shushed, rubbing Wooyoung's back as the younger curled on his side, closer. He didn't want to cry at all, Wooyoung was already feeling bad. Wooyoung's cries quietened after a few more minutes later, and Yeosang buried his face in the pillow to stop his own tears.
"Can I be honest?"
"Hmm?"
"My baby, I... I often feel like ending my life, most nights... but when I come home or just see your face, my day gets better. Even if just a bit. Not because you're always smiling, because even if you're sad and cry, I know that you're safe with me and that gives me strength to hold on a little bit longer," Yeosang confessed, hiding his face in Wooyoung's hair.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make it about m-"
"No, no," Wooyoung interrupted softly, tilting his head to look at Yeosang. His eyes glimmered with unshed tears, though he attempted a weak smile. "It's okay. I’m glad you shared that with me."
Yeosang’s heart ached at Wooyoung’s bashful reaction, but he pressed on, knowing how important it was to be open. “I just… I want you to know that I feel like you see me. Not just the happy moments, but everything—the darkness, the doubts. You remind me that it's okay to feel this way.”
“I do see you,” Wooyoung replied, bridging the gap between them to intertwine their fingers. “You’re not alone in this. Ever. Remember that.”
A few heavy seconds passed, and both boys ensconced in the warm cocoon of their shared vulnerability. The space felt sacred, as if they carved out a safe haven just for themselves amidst the chaos of their thoughts.
Yeosang took a deep breath, grounding himself in Wooyoung’s warmth. “It’s hard. Some days feel unbearable, but I try my best to make it through because I love you.”
Wooyoung's grip tightened around their hands. “I love you too. And I want to be there for you, just like you are for me. We can face this together, okay? No more hiding how we feel.”
“Okay,” Yeosang said, letting a small smile break through the remnants of his sadness. “Together.”
With renewed resolve, they settled back into each other, the weight of their confessions hanging in the air like a comforting blanket. In that moment, both knew that while the path ahead might be fraught with challenges, they wouldn't have to walk it alone. Through the storm, they had each other—two souls navigating the darkness, hand in hand.
