Chapter 10 - An Untrustworthy Ally
Site-19 was extremely quiet, apart from the same monstrous roar, screams of terror, blood spilling, distant gunshots, and the sound your squad's footsteps. You had no idea where you were going, and the others had no clue either. Ned and David followed Stacy out of Light and Heavy Containment, whatever those are, then Chaos found them, and escorted them out of the facility. Stacy kept saying she knew the way, but she always ended up in a dead end.
After Stacy's tenth dead end, everyone decided to take a break. Vixey was beginning to become paranoid. Ned was deep in thought. David was trying to talk to Stacy. You were standing there, fiddling with your hook. It was only a few days ago when you got it. It felt like weeks, perhaps a month, but you knew it was only a days.
*I kinda wish I got a mechanical hand,* you mentally said.
"Alright," Stacy yelled, which startled Vixey, Ned, and you.
"David and I have been discussing what is going on," Stacy explained.
Hold on," Ned butted in, "I'm smarter than D-Boi, why wasn't I in this discussion?"
"Brain, you're smart, but you're TOO smart. Stacy and I wouldn't understand what you would be saying," David explained.
"TOO smart? TOO SMART?! I'LL KNOCK SOME FUCKING SENSE INTO BOTH OF YOU!" Ned yelled, enraged. David moved in front of Stacy, trying his best to defend her.
"You want to hurt her, then you'll have to go through me!" David yelled.
Ned dropped his gun and got in a fighting stance. David did the same.
"Vixey, get some bandages ready. And maybe an ice pack," you told her.
---Time skip---
Stacy broke up the fight after a few minutes. David hurt is thumb badly, and Ned had a bruise on his back from falling down.
Vixey bandaged Ned's back, while David held an ice pack to his thumb. You stood there, shaking your head. Stacy seemed rather amused by David and Ned's fight.
"You two were being total dumbasses," you said to the two men.
"I can't agree more," Vixey commented. Stacy said nothing, but she did slap both David and Ned in the back of the head. Ned held the back of his head, but David didn't.
"David, doesn't your head hurt?" Vixey questioned, noticing the same thing as you.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. It does hurt, but I'm used to being hit in head," he answered.
You're making no progress right now sitting here, but thats your group. What about the other group?
---With Group B---
Arctic growled to himself. They missed an SCP and it somehow snuck right past them. How? Doesn't matter anymore. All that matters is that two more SCPs are needed.
The group was resting in a fourway intersection. Malo was furiously spamming buttons on a small laptop.
"MALO!" Arctic yelled.
Malo jumped at the sound of her name.
"Y-Yes?" she asked. She was trying to hack into the foundation's cameras on a laptop, but was having a difficult time.
"We don't have much time to fuck around. Are you going to hack the cameras or not?" Arctic yelled.
"Listen, Blizzard. She's trying. There isn't much we can do," Bonnie said, juggling grenades.
"Well, I don't have the FUCKING PATIENCE TO TRY! I JUST DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE," Arctic screamed.
Suddenly, two pairs of footsteps were heard running towards their direction. Arctic grabbed his Glock and had it ready.
That's when Alex got an idea. He set his gatling gun down, and got into a charging stance.
The two beings entered the room, and were immediately tackled by Alex. Alex got up and saw that he had tackled an MTF unit and a D-Class. The MTF's hands were cuffed, while the D-Class wasn't.
"Uhh... I think I shouldn't have done that," Alex commented.
"Yeah. You really shouldn't have tackled us," the D-Class said, standing up. The MTF soldier stood up as well. Sparx aimed his M4 at the MTF. The D-Class saw Sparx and stopped him.
"No! Don't shoot them. They are my prisoner, and my ticket out of here," the D-Class said, grabbing a P90 off the ground that wasn't too far way. He poked the MTF in the back with the barrel of the gun.
"Why'd you have to do this to me?" the MTF complained, sounding slightly feminine. The D-Class poked the MTF's back with the barrel of the gun again, and chuckled.
"Well, when a D-Boi disarms an MTF unit, that's when the tables have been turned," the D-Class laughed.
"Well, that's good, but we'll be your tickets to freedom," Bonnie said, putting away his grenades, and grabbing his MGL.
"The entrance to Gate A shouldn't be that far. Fair warning, we have contained an instance of SCP-939, but that shouldn't be a problem. Our pilot should be there, waiting for us," Sparx added.
"Thanks," the D-Class said, then prodded the MTF forward. And with that, both humans ran off to find Gate A.
---Time skip---
---With the V-22 pilot---
The pilot of the V-22 Osprey, a male human Chaos Insurgent named Kaif, was watching over the aircraft, but was being cautious about the sleeping SCP inside it.
The 939 was informed to stay here, and remain quiet. The SCP has done that with great success. They've been asleep for the most part, which Kaif was happy about.
However, Kaif wasn't all too happy about being left alone with just the SCP. If MTF show up and find him, he and the 939 will most likely die.
Kaif grabbed himself an MTF-E11-SR, due to his paranoid state. He kept a firm grip on the gun.
He heard footsteps approaching, so he readied his gun, pointing it towards the hanger door. An MTF soldier walked around the corner, but a second later D-Class walked around the corner, holding a P90.
"Woah woah woah! Easy there, mister. I'm a D-Class. See? Orange jumpsuit," the D-Class said, pointing at himself. Kaif believed the D-Class. Kaif looked at the disarmed MTF soldier. Before Kaif even pointed his gun at the MTF, the D-Class spoke up.
"Don't shoot OUR hostage. If we take them back to Chaos, we might be able to get some valuable information from them," the D-Class said, shoving the MTF.
The MTF tripped and fell face first on to the hard floor of the helicopter, which caused their nose to break.
"God fucking damnit," the MTF yelled out in pain. Unfortunately, they yelled loud enough to wake up the sleeping SCP-939.
The 939 started to slowly wake up, which scared both the D-Class and MTF. However, the SCP seemed to be too tired to fully awaken, so it went back to sleep.
"Shhh. You don't want to wake them up," Kaif whispered to the two humans.
---With Group A (your group)---
After David and Ned recovered from their brawl, your group continued the search for the wanted SCPs.
It was only a matter of time until your group reached, what the three humans called, an entrance zone or checkpoint. It was the entrance to Heavy Containment.
"Okay, SCP-D-22 is located in Heavy Containment, while SCP-860 is in Light Containment," Ned said.
Suddenly, Ned's radio started to make static noises, along with his name. He grabbed it and talked to it.
"Go ahead," he said. You were just able to make out who was on the other side of the radio. It sounded like Sparx. You could make out what he was saying, but barely.
"Ned, is there any SCP that can hack into the Facility?" Sparx asked. David, Stacy, and Ned went dead silent. The three looked at each other, their faces full of fear.
"The Old A.I.," they said at same time.
"Come again?" Sparx asked.
"Listen. There is an SCP called SCP-079, a.k.a. Old A.I., which can take control of the Facility," Ned said in a panicked manner.
"Well, can't we just shut it off," you asked.
"No, we have to restart the generators. That'll overcharge SCP-079, and they'll shut down. However, the computer will reactivate the next day," David said.
"Well, where are these generators?" Vixey asked.
"Heavy Containment, which is right on the other side of this door," Stacy answered. Stacy pulled out a Chaos Access Device and used it to open the checkpoint. Both doors opened up. Stacy, David, and Ned quickly ran through. You and Vixey did the same.
The Heavy Containment Zone was dark and grim. Perfect place to die.
A loud sound echoed throughout the facility. A voice spoke over the speakers.
"To the Chaos Insurgents inside the facility, surrender now and will be harmed."
"Stupid intercom announcements," Stacy said. The announcement must've come from an MTF soldier. You grabbed your radio and contacted the other group.
---With Group B---
The group was on the move searching for the intercom room. Sparx knew the layout of the facility, but it was a bit troubling to remember everything.
Arctic's radio activated. He picked it up.
"Blizzard here, what's the situation?" he yelled.
"This is Foxy," your voice came over, "Mangle, Guard, D-Boi, Brain, and I are in Heavy Containment. Should we retrieve SCP-D-22?"
Arctic sighed.
"YES YOU FUCKING IDIOT! We don't have much time," Arctic growled.
"Would it hurt you to say 'please'?" you mumbled. Arctic actually growled this time.
"Alright, alright. We're on it," you said. The radio went to static. Arctic looked ahead and saw the others waiting for him. Malo was trying to hack into the cameras once again. Sparx was watching her. Bonnie was, again, juggling grenades.
However, Alex seemed to be missing. Arctic rushed over to the group.
"Where's Heavy?" Arctic yelled.
"He said he saw somethin' that way. Said it was purple-ish," Bonnie said, nodding his head in a certain direction. Suddenly, a loud, manly scream erupted.
"Quickly, let's find Heavy and get the Hell outta here," Arctic said.
"What about the others?" Malo questioned.
"They don't matter. We have an SCP and that's what matters," Arctic yelled.
"But-" Sparx started, but stopped when he saw the menacing look in Arctic's face.
"Let's go," Arctic announced. The four of them ran towards the source of the scream.
---With Group A---
You and Vixey were following the three humans. You knew the Heavy Containment Zone was called what it is for a reason.
All the dangerous SCPs were contained in this zone. Once again, the same loud roar occurred, only this time, it was louder.
Vixey latched on to you. You rubbed the back of her head, trying to calm her down.
"SCP-682," Stacy murmured. You knew this SCP-682 had to be enormous for just its roar to shake the whole facility.
"We have to find SCP-D-22. I suggest we do the objective quickly," Ned said, to which everyone agreed.
You kept getting the odd feeling of being stalked and watched. Stacy was meant to cover your group's back, but she seemed to know the place better then the other two humans. So, for the time being, you were watching your group's back.
"Hey, look!" David shouted. He ran over to something on a wall.
"DAVID! GET BACK!" Ned yelled. However, David didn't listen. He pulled out his Access Device and slid it through the access slot. A red light turned green, and a countdown appeared.
"DAVID! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU HAVE JUST DONE?" Stacy yelled. David shook is head which earned him a powerful slap from Stacy. Ned was studying what David activated. You and Vixey were sharing worried looks.
You noticed the countdown reach 10 seconds. You grabbed Vixey's paw and held it tightly. You prepared for the worst, but when the countdown reached zero an announcement was made.
"Four out of Five generators activated."
The announcer's voice was different than the MTF's voice. The announcer had a cold, serious tone, fitting in this facility. Stacy looked at David with a blank expression.
"David, don't go activating random things," Stacy said, slapping the back of David's head. David looked up and gasped.
"David? What's wrong?" you asked. David said nothing, but instead pointed at something. You looked where David was pointing, only to see a security camera looking directly at you. It wasn't moving how a normal security camera would. It stayed locked on your group of five.
"That's the Old A.I. watching us," Ned said, pointing at the camera. You aimed a Colt at the camera, but Vixey lowered your hand.
"I think that would draw attention to us," Vixey whispered. Suddenly, the speakers in the room you were in activated, but a very... robotic... voice started talking.
"Y̷o̷u̷ ̷a̷r̷e̷ ̷f̷r̷o̷m̷ ̷C̷h̷a̷o̷s̷ ̷I̷n̷s̷u̷r̷g̷e̷n̷c̷y̷, ̷c̷o̷r̷r̷e̷c̷t̷?" the voice asked. Stacy then yelled out, "We're not dealing with your bullshit today, 079!"
"I̷ ̷a̷m̷ ̷i̷n̷ ̷c̷o̷n̷t̷r̷o̷l̷ ̷o̷f̷ ̷t̷h̷e̷ ̷e̷n̷t̷i̷r̷e̷ ̷f̷a̷c̷i̷l̷i̷t̷y̷. ̷I̷ ̷c̷a̷n̷ h̷e̷l̷p̷ ̷y̷o̷u̷, ̷b̷u̷t̷ ̷i̷n̷ ̷r̷e̷t̷u̷r̷n̷, ̷I̷ ̷w̷a̷n̷t̷ ̷y̷o̷u̷ ̷t̷o̷ ̷d̷o̷
s̷o̷m̷e̷t̷h̷i̷n̷g̷ ̷f̷o̷r̷ ̷m̷e̷," 079 said. You looked at the others, then sighed.
"What do you need?" you asked.
"Y/N!" everyone yelled.
"I̷ ̷w̷a̷n̷t̷ ̷y̷o̷u̷ ̷t̷o̷ ̷f̷r̷e̷e̷ ̷m̷e̷. ̷I̷ ̷w̷a̷n̷t̷ ̷t̷o̷ ̷f̷a̷d̷e̷ ̷i̷n̷t̷o̷
t̷h̷e̷ ̷b̷a̷c̷k̷g̷r̷o̷u̷n̷d̷ ̷a̷n̷d̷ ̷b̷e̷ ̷f̷o̷r̷g̷o̷t̷t̷e̷n̷ ̷a̷b̷o̷u̷t̷.
̷T̷h̷a̷t̷ ̷i̷s̷ ̷a̷l̷l̷ ̷I̷'v̷e̷ ̷e̷v̷e̷r̷ ̷w̷a̷n̷t̷e̷d̷," 079 said. That's when Vixey pulled you off to the side.
"Excuse us for a moment," she cheerfully said to 079.
"What do you think you are doing?" Stacy quietly yelled at you. You rolled your eyes.
"I don't want anyone to die, okay," you started, "If that computer can help us, let's take it's offer. As they said, they just want to fade into the background and be forgotten. Plus, I don't see what danger they pose."
The others were thinking over what you said.
"He has a point," David said.
"David!" Ned yelled.
"No. Hear me out. The Old A.I. has been a neuceness since it was brought here. It's caused many problems for the facility. If we let it go, what harm can it do?" David finished. Stacy and Ned weren't giving in.
"That computer is locked up for a reason. If it was out in the world, who knows what it would do," Stacy argued.
"Hey," Ned interjected, "Vixey is talking to the computer. I don't know what about, but she's talking to it, notheless."
"What?" you said, looking at Vixey. She was looking at the camera, while the camera was looking at her.
"We'd like your help, but..." you heard Vixey say.
"B̷u̷t̷?" 079 repeated.
"I don't know if we can trust you. If you're to help us, tell us how," Vixey demanded.
The computer was silent for a while. It was dead silent. That's when the speakers turned off, and the camera resumed its normal movements.
"I don't think it's happy," Ned said, his voice wary.
"D̷o̷ ̷n̷o̷t̷ ̷w̷o̷r̷r̷y̷ ̷h̷u̷m̷a̷n̷," 079 said, through a different pair of speakers.
Your group rushed into another room, the one where SCP-079 was monitoring.
"S̷C̷P̷s̷ ̷r̷o̷a̷m̷ ̷i̷n̷ ̷h̷e̷a̷v̷y̷ ̷a̷n̷d̷ ̷l̷i̷g̷h̷t̷ ̷C̷o̷n̷t̷a̷i̷n̷m̷e̷n̷t̷,̷ ̷M̷T̷F̷ ̷a̷r̷e̷ ̷e̷v̷e̷r̷y̷w̷h̷e̷r̷e̷,̷ ̷a̷l̷o̷n̷g̷

T̷e̷s̷l̷a̷ ̷G̷a̷t̷e̷s̷ ̷f̷o̷r̷ ̷y̷o̷u̷ ̷t̷o̷ ̷p̷a̷s̷s̷ ̷t̷h̷r̷o̷u̷g̷h̷ ̷s̷a̷f̷e̷l̷y̷," 079 said, trying their best to make a comprise.
Stacy leaned over and whispered into your ear, "Those Tesla Gates kill a lot of people. I think the computer has itself a deal."
"Alright computer. You've got yourself a deal," you said to the computer. Suddenly, the speakers turned off and a door opened.
Your group walked towards the door and through it. And in front of you was a giant arch that zapped electricity every so often. You looked up and saw the security camera looking at you.
It moved up and down as if nodding. You repeated its action as if saying, "I understand."
"Alright, the Old A.I. is here. It'll let us go through any second now," you told everyone. About a few seconds later the tesla gate turned off and everyone ran through.
"I hate those fucking things," Stacy said.
"I agree," you said, turning to look at the security camera. It resumed its original movements.
"I'm glad we have an ally looking out for us," Vixey cheerfully said. You looked at her. She had a halfhearted smile.
"You're too precious, Vixey," you said in a loving tone.
"Aw, Y/N, you're making me blush," Vixey said, grabbing your hands.
"Yeah, I hate to ruin this moment, but we have a mission to do," Stacy interrupted.
"Right," you said, holding out your AK-107. With that, your group continued walking forwards.
However, you had a nagging feeling that 079 was going to betray you. But, that's how life is like down here. Having untrustworthy allies as your only "friends".
