Chapter 21. ♠️
Kesiena Uloho POV
She ran off stage. Tomiwa ran off stage. I don't even know her last name. I knew something was wrong with her the minute she climbed the stage to perform for her team. First she wore too much make up and that is very unlike her. She didn't even appeal to me as someone who uses make up at all so why was she wearing it all of a sudden. Something was definitely up with her. In as much as it had nothing to do with me neither is it in my place to find out, I just could not help it.
WELL THAT WAS SOME PERFORMANCE BY DOWEN ACADEMY. I DEFINITELY DID NOT SEE THAT COMING, BUT AS YOU TEENS SAY IT THIS DAYS, WE MUVEEEE!! NOW WE HAVE A POP UP ROUND WHERE WINNER OF THIS JUST CONCLUDED MUSICAL WILL GO HEAD TO HEAD.
No!
I mentally screamed. This is not what we planned. Well it's not like I planned it or anything but still I didn't imagine it to end this way. Gawd... damn it! Why did Tomiwa have to run off like that? If she hadn't, maybe she or Ebuka would have won squarely. Obviously there won't be a need to create this impromptu stage, at least that is how I see it. Ebuka, winner by default and Rebecca winner by right. They had to go head to head as they danced their heart out to the song Mamasita by Jason Derulo. This was to see who would be the last person standing. I stood up to go and find Tomiwa but Donald stopped me saying.
"And where do you think you are going?"
"I'll be right back. I just want to check on something real quick."
He glared me a bit and I gave him my signature smile, before he could speak I was already out of my seat. It was when he saw I was truly leaving that he said in form of a whisper yell.
"Pssh! Hey get back here. Urgh...you stubborn girl ! make sure you are back before it is our turn to present for the academic competition."
I just ignored him and I went in search of Tomiwa. She couldn't have gotten too far I thought. I quickly looked round the first floor which was where I suspect SS1 students stayed. I checked the toilet of the next floor, including the classes there but no sign of her.
"Where are you Tomiwa?" I whispered to myself. Just when I was about to give up the search and head back to the hall. I heard it. I heard the faint sound of someone crying right above me and I automatically knew it was her.
"Hmph...bingo!"
I rushed up the stairs to the third and last floor and I found her in the first class which was few feet away from the stairs. I entered the class and went to meet her, Of course she was shocked to see me. It was written all over her face that I was the last person she was expecting. Regardless, I was there and I wasn't going to leave, at least not anytime soon. I smile at her as I approached her. She just stared at me, tears still trickling down her face, messing up her make up. I took my seat beside her and rubbed random soothing cycle on her back, the smile never leaving my face.
"I am sorry. Sometimes it hurt a little too much."
"What...what are you talking about?" She asked sniffing. When I noticed that her hands were going to her nose that had already accumulated muccus, I stopped her. There was no way she was going to clean her nose with her bare hands and not have half of her concealer smeared on her hands.
"Wait, here use this." I gave her a toilet roll and some face wipe. It's a good thing I decided to move around with them today. Who knew I would need them like this? She wiped her nose first and then proceeded to use the face wipe to clean of the make up on her face.
"Now care to share why you ran off stage like that? You look like you saw a ghost."
" Hmm...well, I did see something that was worse than a Ghost." She paused and blew her nose. I gave her an encouraging smile and she gave a wary one. It was obvious she was deeply hurt and she was finding it hard to confide in me. I kept rubbing soothing cycle on her back and she spoke again.
"Those two guys. The one on the left, is my elder brother who just disappeared without a trace, the other one, is his friend who has refused to get that I am not his girlfriend."
This was another sexual assault case, one I would have loved to take upon myself but alas it is my cross to carry. I gently removed my hand from her backs when I noticed she had calmed down and stopped crying.
"My captain once told me if I wanted to be a real fire fighters, I would have to accept that bad things happen and there is nothing more I can do to change it. And you have to let it go. Maybe this is one of the bad things, maybe it isn't but it's up to you to decide whether or not you want to do something about it."

Ebuka POV
I was confused, perplexed, and a little disappointed. I knew something was up with Tomiwa but I didn't think it was bad enough to make her abandon the show. It's all because of those two guys that showed up out of nowhere. One looked a lot like Tomiwa and I guess that's her elder brother she always talks about.
What I didn't understand was why they looked like they just survived a street fight. So much was on my mind. So much I wanted to ask but I needed to dance my way to victory. Hence immediately the song came up I began to dance like my heart depended on it, competing against Rebecca of Forrester Academy.
And I am ɡᴏnna ᴡanna
Wanna lᴏᴠe yᴏᴜ like this all niɡht
Tanɡled ᴜp ᴜntil the sᴜnrise
Girl, yᴏᴜ shininɡ in the mᴏᴏnliɡht
Why yᴏᴜ danᴄinɡ in here sᴏlᴏ?
Say yᴏᴜ frᴏm Santiaɡᴏ
Anyᴡhere yᴏᴜ ɡᴏ, I fᴏllᴏᴡ
I ᴡill eᴠen learn a little Spanish
Dímelᴏ, nena, tráeme tᴜ ᴄᴜerpᴏ ahᴏra, baby (Shh)
I swug my hips and danced like I have never danced before. I twisted my hands to make the right move and gave a smuggled smile toward the end. I knew my voice when it comes to singing wasn't as great as Tomiwa's own, but at least I can get a few notes right. Regardless of my voice I sang in the parts and the notes I could sing. I needed to win this, if not for me at least for Tomiwa.
Bájalᴏ, mami (Uh, ᴜh)
Bájalᴏ, mami (Uh, ᴜh)
Mᴜéᴠelᴏ, mami (Uh, ᴜh)
¿Qᴜé lᴏ qᴜe, mami? (Uh, ᴜh, ᴡhat's ᴜp, ᴡhat's ᴜp?)
Baila-la-la-la (Tra, tra)
Whine yᴏᴜr ᴡaist fᴏr me (Uh, ᴜh)
Yeah, let me taste, mami (Uh, tra, ᴜh, tra)
¿Qᴜé lᴏ qᴜe, mami? (Uh, sí)
Baila-la-la-la (Mamaᴄita)
Baila-la-la-la (Mamaᴄita, pri-yah, yeah)
As I sang and majorly danced my heart out, I remembered my dad, more like my step dad. He always hated me dancing or singing. He believes that those are for girls and as a man you can never earn much from music. The truth is I might never be a fire men or in this case a good musician but I know that I have the fire in my heart and no one can change that, not even my dad.
Wᴏrk it slᴏᴡ, yeah
On the flᴏᴏr, yeah
Make me ᴡanna say, "Baila-la-la-la"
Shᴏᴡ me salsa and bachata
Whine it ᴜp fᴏr me (Oh la la la la)
Mamaᴄita, bésame
Mamaᴄita, tóᴄame
Mamaᴄita
Dímelᴏ, nena, tráeme tᴜ ᴄᴜerpᴏ ahᴏra, baby (Pᴜm-pᴜm-pᴜm-pᴜm)
As the song was slowly coming to an end, I made a mental note to find out who those guys were, and why they were here. It's a good thing the security in charge of this place was quick to action, they apprehended them before anything got out of hand.
I put on the big finish just as the song ended. Everyone of the audience was on their feet. They were all clapping for us because they knew it was one challenging song. Rebecca too was panting as well as she did put up a fight in this short impromptu challenge. Now was the moment of truth we were waiting for. Was it me or was it Rebecca? It was time we found out who won this musical competition .
