Eventually Jason's parents called. They wanted to know if Linda knew anything about Jason taking drugs. They blamed her various times for his disappearance.

Linda repeated time after time that she had absolutely no idea where Jason had gone, and whether or not he'd been taking drugs or feeling suicidal or spending time with "the wrong sorts of people".

The parents continued to blame her. Linda began to feel guilty. So did I, a little.
