Chapter one

(A/N There are no swear words, smut, anything like that. If there is art i ever post in this book, its art i made on my own. please dot steal it. Enjoy the story! :)

Alexander Hamilton sat on his uncomfortable dirty bed while all the other orphanage children played outside. He was never much of a... social person. he decided to stop trusting people when he told his best friend he was bisexual, because his friend had told everyone and his life went south from there. Alexander desperately wanted to be free, to go to america, to get an education.

I stopped trying to narrate my life in third person.

I used to be able to sneak out the window, I could feel the roof on the other side. but one day when I tried to escape i felt bars blocking the way out. someone had put jail bars in front of the window. Now i could never roam the streets of Nevis again, being all trapped in this dusty room.

"Alexander get your mangy butt downstairs supper is ready," Someone said loudly from the doorway.

I stood up and walked carefully down the stairs. I had almost memorized each step of the way down to the cafeteria area now, but there could always be loose nails or traps set for him by the other kids, so I walked down very slowly. I should start my escape plan today. I thought, the plan running through my head as it had a million times before. Suddenly I tripped on something and went tumbling down the rest of the stairs.

"Oops, didn't see you there," Came the familiar voice of Lloyd, the bully Alexander had to deal with for his entire life.

"Get some glasses then," I retorted, getting up on my bruised legs, this had happened way to often.

Lloyd just laughed, and i heard more laughs with him. I sighed and carefully walked down the long hallway towards the cafeteria. I could already hear the talking of many children in the cafeteria, that was my usual sign that i was halfway down the hallway. Once i reached the end of the hallway, i took a left turn and was inside the cafeteria.

"Oh, look who has arrived," Someone laughed.

I could sense another trap set up somewhere. So i walked carefully around the edges of the large room. Nothing dramatic happened as i reached the food station, where i grabbed a tray and felt it get heavier as people dumped chunks of mashed potato on it, then slapped on a couple  full carrots and then pushed me away for the next person. I walked down towards the table furthest away from everyone, it used to be where i sat with my friend before he was adopted.

I also used to sit with my brother here, James. He was adopted before me. Everyone underestimated me as well, i was likely never to get adopted because people never spent time with me. they look one look and decided i was not worth it. They never asked how advanced i am in literature, they never asked if i could write. nobody thought I'd be able to write, but My friend had taught me by saying the letter out loud, then moving my hand in the shape of the letter. That friend was gone now.

Once everyone i was close to got adopted, life became three times harder. But i managed. and now i'm ready to escape, today hopefully, with my secret plan. From word on the streets there was a large ship headed towards New York tomorrow at noon, if I could sneak on i could make my way to freedom. But there was the problem of people in the hallways, that's why ill be sneaking out the vents.

The orphanage had vents, I discovered one time while being pushed to the floor and felt the wind current, And one day I had finally discovered one large enough for a small body. I had explored it, and realized it went to the exterior of the building. The only problem was timing, and enough food for the journey on the ship.

I stuffed my carrots into the pocket of my jacket. That was to add to my collection of fifteen carrots, three apples, five applesauce containers, and two boxes of Cheerios i had smuggled from Lloyd.

"Yo Alexander," a female voice said.

I ignored them, and proceeded to eat my mashed potatoes with bacon in it. the bacon tasted very... raw.

"Alexander," They repeated.

I just continued to eat.

"Dude I have important news, it could help with your future escape," The voice said.

That got my attention.

"How do you know about my escape?" I asked.

"I have my sources. but whenever its happening, i expect within the week, I found the stash of weapons. you may want a gun...? I'm selling them away for five dollars each," The voice said.

"What type of guns?" I asked, turning my eyes in their direction.

"Pistols," They replied.

"Sure, ill take one," I said, knowing they could be selling these guns for at least sixty dollars each.

"Alright, can we have the trade right now? nobody's watching," They said quietly.

"Alright," I said, fumbling through my pocket for my money i had gotten for sweeping around the orphanage.

I handed her the cash, and he handed me a small gun that fit perfectly in my hand. I quickly hid it beneath my jacket, hoping nobody would see it. I stood up and walked as calmly as i could back up to my room. This had better not be a prank. I thought as i reached my room.

I knew something was wrong the moment i stepped inside. I could hear the faint breath of someone nearby, someone just off to his left. someone was looking through my stuff, and they thought they could sneak past me.

"I know you're there. what are you doing?" I said.

No voice came in return, but i heard the breathing quicken and slowly start moving towards the door.

"Don't try to escape, i know you're here," I said calmly.

"H-how?" a squeaky little voice said.

"What do you want?" I asked, ignoring their question.

"I-I just wanted something to read. i'm sorry, i sneak in here and i-i read what you write. I'm sorry! i don't rip the paper, or tell anyone, i'm so sorry!" The voice said.

"Its okay," I said.

"Y-your writing is really good. Its better then all the books I've read," They said.

"whats your name?" I asked.

"Oh, i go by Jack," They said.

"Well, Jack, what if we make a deal. I will personally write a story for you, at the best of my ability, and you bring me a book i can read," I said.

"What type of book?" Jack asked.

"Something non-fiction would work, but it has to be the type i can read," I said.

"Alright. Deal. see you later, ill get you that book today!" Jack said, and i heard their footsteps disappear into the hallway.

I sat down on my bed, secretly excited on the inside to read a new book instead of the same old one he was used to reading over and over. To bad i wont actually be able to write him a book, i'm escaping tonight. I thought. I hid my new gun under my bed. I usually don't get wrapped up in all the orphanage black market. that was Lloyd's thing. The orphanage had an intricate secret black market only the children knew about.

Certain orphans would steal things and sell them there, some are payed to steal things from other people. I used to make some money stealing for Asher, my already adopted employer. I had blown all the cash on the only book i can read and someone to teach me how to read it. It was easy to steal for someone like me, even though it may seem like its not. But looking innocent and weak is a specialty of mine.

People take pity on me, and offer me free things when they can spare them. And honestly, they should take pity on me. After all, its pretty hard being a blind orphan.
