Chapter nine
(A/N up there is Splashi6 creature, inspired by my creature. Its a three-tailed-fish-fox. You can make your own if you like :)
I walked down the sidewalk towards the school. My creature walked by my side, like a well trained dog. I tried to not pay to much attention to it, someone might think i'm staring at the sidewalk. I don't need to be embarrassed right now. I walked onto the school campus, and I felt the burn of someones eyes.
Then i heard some footsteps nearby, and my creature hissed.
"Alexander," John said, and i felt his heat next to mine. I sighed in relief, it was not Thomas.
"Hey," I said, looking forward as we walked.
"I don't see Mr.Washington anywhere. does that mean you can make your way around the school alone now?" John asked.
"Yeah, I think i'm fine," I said, now that my creature was here, walking in the darkness, It might help me get to class.
"Okay," John said, he seemed disappointed.
I walked on in silence. John kept making little noises, like he was about to say a word but thought better of it. We reached the front doors quickly, John held the door open for me.
"Ah, Johnny boy," Said a slightly familiar voice. "See you are hanging with the nuisance?"
"Alexander is not a nuisance," John said.
"Oh? then why does he not say that himself then?" The voice said.
I gritted my teeth, and looked away.
"Aw, Johns little pet needs someone else to talk for him, is that it? Come on Alexander, come with us and ill teach you how to talk on your own. you don't need to be in Johns shadow," The voice said.
I heard my creature growl. i trust my creature. I shook my head politely to decline the offer, then began to walk away. My creature walked with me, by my side. I felt someone grab my arm.
"Where do you think you're going?" The voice snickered.
My creature bared its teeth, and hissed at the person. Then my vision came on. I realized that it was Thomas Jefferson, with James Madison and Aaron Burr at his side. There was someone new as well, I had heard Thomas call this new guy 'Charles Lee'. A moment later another person came to stand beside the boys, he had a limp. Thomas's voice sounded a bit strange, maybe he was getting sick. Then my vision disappeared. I bit my lip and tried to walk away again.
"Leave him alone," John pleaded.
"You're cute," Thomas said, touching my face.
"Jefferson, leave him alone," Came a new voice.
"This is none of your business, Jay," Thomas practically hissed.
"Leave Hamilton alone," Said this 'Jay' guy.
"Ugh, whatever, I'll be back," Thomas said, and i heard him walk away.
"You okay?" Jay asked.
I nodded.
"I'm John Jay, you're Alexander Hamilton and John Laurens, correct?" The new guy asked.
"Yes," John said.
"Hamilton, you really need to stand up for yourself," Jay said, i felt him smile at me.
"I'll try it sometime," I said.
"Good, well, I'll be off now," Jay said, and walked away.
"Hes nice," John said.
"Yeah i guess," I said, and continued to walk on.
"You know, sometimes you can be a real pain," John commented. "I should not have to be your babysitter."
I rolled my sightless eyes, and walked beside John all the way too the first class. I entered the classroom and John held the door open for me. He acts like I cant tell there's a door there.
"Alright class, today we have a special visitor! Mr.Washington's friend has come to teach us about slavery. Say hi to William Lee," The teacher said as we sat down and the bell rang.
"Hello!" Someone shouted.
"Hello to you too," The William Lee guy said.
Mr.Lee began his lesson, talking about the slaves in history. I listened intently, especially because he was George's friend. After a while, Mr.Lee left the classroom with a polite farewell.
"Wow, what an inspiring figure," Someone said sarcastically from the back of the class.
"Benedict, that's no way to treat someone," The teacher said.
"Maybe if you would convince the principal to let me onto the basketball team i would have a better attitude," Benedict said.
"Benedict, you cant even run right. If you can get rid of your limp, sure," The teacher said.
"I will get my way!" Benedict said.
"I heard hes going to join the other schools basketball team if he is never allowed onto our team," John whispered to me.
"Like a... Turncoat?" Lafayette said, overhearing.
"Benedict Arnold, the boy who left our schools basketball team to join the other side because he did not get exactly what he wants. Sounds like him," John laughed quietly, Lafayette laughed as well while i stared without emotion at my desk.
The class went on like normal, and ended like normal. I walked over to Mr.Knox's class with John at my side. Hugh Knox, or Mr.Knox, was my favorite teacher. he was kind, supportive and understood me. He payed special attention to me, not because of my blindness, because of my intelligence. He gave me extra hard challenges and made sure the class knew i could be more then just the blind kid.
"Alexander," Thomas said from somewhere behind me as i was almost at Mr.Knox's class.
I kept walking forward. I did not want anything to do with Thomas right now, not ever.
"Alexander~" Thomas said, i heard him following me.
"Leave him alone," John said from my side, grabbing my hand and pulling me onward.
"Where do you think you're going?" said an unfamiliar voice, it was probably Charles Lee.
Someone grabbed my arm, and I really hoped it was John, preparing to drag me out of there. But then I heard Thomas's voice right next to me.
"Come on Alexander. You know you want to come with me. you don't have to hang out with that idiot, we can teach you to become the person you want to be. we can give you a voice," Thomas said. I felt his breath on my face.
"LEAVE HIM ALONE," John shouted.
"Aw, and what are you gonna do about it?" Thomas said. I heard more footsteps coming down the hallway. One set of footsteps was odd, like they where limping. Crap.
"The reinforcements arrived," I heard Benedict and Aaron snicker at the same time.
Aaron used to be a okay guy. why have they all turned evil?
"Get off me!" John shouted, and i heard something crash into the wall.
"Don't hurt him!" I pleaded.
"Oh, you can talk," Thomas snickered, and i felt his finger stroke across my face.
That is when i remembered my creature. I looked around and saw the little fox-deer-bird, politely staring at me. I stared back at it. It was waiting for something... I could tell. Bite him! I shouted inside my head at the creature. And somehow, with some magical force, the creature walked up to me, and i saw its teeth sink into something in the darkness.
"OW!" Thomas shouted.
I stared at my creature. It sat on the ground in front of me, looking like an innocent little cinnamonroll. I saw a bit of red blood on its teeth. It... heard me. Then i felt something hit me hard in the stomach. I fell to the ground.
"STOP!" John's voice sounded from somewhere. He sounded desperate, and in pain.
I felt Thomas punch me, and I tried to stop myself from crying in pain. I needed to fight back, but I just... couldn't. He kept punching me, over and over. Please.... help me. I pleaded to my creature inside my head. I watched it tilt its head at me, then it spread open its wings. the creature flapped into the air, and then flew out of sight.
"ARGH," Thomas shouted a moment later, and the punching stopped.
I struggled to sit up, and i quickly felt someone hugging me.
"Are you okay?" John asked, he was hugging me tightly.
"Are you?" I asked him, using his arms to help me sit up.
"Yeah, they didn't do much to me. We need to get you to the nurse," John said, helping me stand up.
"What scared them off?" I asked.
"I dunno. All of the sudden, Thomas was bleeding, He thought you stabbed him and started to beat you up, but then Thomas got all these scratches on his face. It looked like his entire face was bleeding by the time he sprinted away, his friends chasing after him," John said as i leaned on his shoulder, limping badly.
I need to get back to those other creature-people. They must know why my creature can hear my thoughts... and can inflict real pain. I thought as i staggered down the hallway. A moment later I saw my creature fly down the hallway and meet up with us. It trotted next to me like nothing ever happened. the only evidence was a bit of blood left on its teeth, but it quickly licked it away.
I heavily leaned on John all the way over towards the nurse's room. And along the way, I think I actually felt some emotions. Pain from the punches, Pride in my creature, Embarrassment for not standing up for myself and most strangely... that weird feeling Lafayette described as Love, towards John. I pushed the feelings away.
