Chapter 81: Sea and Skies of Loss
Tenshia and Arian watched Ruben and Kayla surrounded by monsters. Despite her fatigue, she picked up the giant spiked club, demanding her ally to swing her into the water against her protests.
"I guess dying with honor only applies to you then," ensnaring Tenshia with her chains and hurling her around until the air.
Forgetting to say "not out of depths" as a comeback left her miffed before she took a massive slam into the onyx sea after a diving flex, powering through the sea to save her teammate's flirtmance from the stray sealife turned toxicant army surrounding them.
"Uh thanks," shooting an air bubble for her.
"You'll need more power than that to break it."
"Sorry I'm not super trained like you all," recollecting her training with Austrina and shifting it around to target the base of the glass, finding more holes to break through the glass while seeing Tenshia's momentum drag several beasts with her, exposing two glowing portals.
"A Starlight and Nightshade? That's where the switches are headed. Then, think, what would Lorena do? Ah. Ruben, push me to the water, Tenshia, hold onto your club! Trust me!"
"Fine! Leo Art: Quadrupel Hunt!" They blasted down as light spheres propelling Kayla further to Tenshia and the facility, using the momentum to aim her Toucannon blasts and accelerate Tenshia's mace all the way to the facility, cracking the glass barrier.
"Now," pouring all her magic into destroying the tube and forcing the essence to rise. She blasted it away, but with her depleting magic, Ruben's clones captured most of the switches underneath.
Proxim's head titled, closing the portals before he could investigate, as the creatures went to eat all of them.
Rocket fire from above passed the three of them, blowing most of them up, while Yessenia and Delphine grabbed the trio and got them to the shore, where Kayla's lungs needed air.
Ruben blushed, letting the phone float above him as he gave her mouth to mouth, spitting the water corroding her lungs from the depleted magic that should've been empowering them, blaming the polluted essence and pumping her chest until she coughed out all the water.
"Ouch," her stomach growled. "That's the closest thing you ever got to a kiss?"
"Shut it, you hooked up with a teacher."
"I could teach you how to get that horn out your butt if you want," snickering and planting a quick on his lips. "Thanks, goat boy."
He looked red, stopping himself from wiping his lips. "Tch, sure, Toucan-twee, whatever. We'll share credit for this one."
Delphine hugged her. "Don't do that again."
While Nyla nodded side by side to her, Yessenia left them all to look at Favela, half of which was destroyed from the rubble. The citizens fought off as best as they could, but the Argo Navis trio was quick to leave them, sighing.
"They still need more room to grow," calling Starz, Gaku, and her mother, letting them know about her decision, responding to all of them with a sorrow tone. "But I have too."
Pushed back from Wali surfing on Austrina's opening, and the Shadow Brawlers regrouping to prevent Easel from getting pulled away, Proxim stared from afar but flew backwards into a portal.
"My son," transferring energy to wake up Taylor, hugging him once he gained consciousness.
"Mommy, I'm okay," yawning.
Solomon and Calypsa had the footage recorded.
"He didn't give into the DeVoid form?"
"Proxim must've miscalculated, or Taylor was able to resist the effects. If at one's lowest point, their resolve can turn the Scope Switches into a genuine augmentation, like a certain someone's sacrifice and awakening."
"Or a cure for one's life force already polluted if we can purify them," staring at Lorena and Easel. "But they'll have to face their own demons to get stronger."
"Even you'll have to take that road eventually," leading Calypsa to stare at herself, wondering if Twin was truly something she'd have to fight one day.
"Don't sweat just yet. For now, we'll have Mechion use the data from both events. We'll win this proxy war eventually. Besides, your plan hope worked, hasn't it?"
She watched Sehki and Ainsley watch over Taylor and Austrina with a tender smile, nodding.
The Umbra heir still wondered, they couldn't keep Easel anywhere.
After everyone regrouped and was heading back to Celestial, his answers got concerned when Delta teleported into the ship.
"I'll take her all to the fortress. That should give her time to heal and protection from Proxim's surprise attacks. Do you mind?"
"Uh no."
"You'll let us stay with her?"
"And keep you all fed. Last I checked, you all haven't had a stable life in quite some time."
Sehki wanted to ask Delta something, but she looked down at him.
"I know, but we'll talk about it later," taking them with her.
Lorena let her thoughts ponder out loud. "Those portals have to lead to either Shugoda or Saiban," with Ruben checking reports to find the former was having a series of random Scope Switch users going berserk, causing a ban and warrant for any information.
"Let's get some rest and figure it out in the morning," only to see Mechion's avatar against several Scope Switches and Cassie flying at Akilah shooting at her.
"Cassie, stop this nonsense! Don't increase your crimes for Akilah's! Easel and Fari have had their vices used against them. Think, you've never been arrested, you have a home and board now!"
"You can blame me for the Malora Invasion, can't you?"
"A Void attack can't be blamed on the victim. Someone used your feathers to make you all take the blame. Losing with all your medical conditions isn't healthy, and you Proxim knew that! They have Fari, but we have Easel's safe, you saw the broadcast."
Cassie looked hesitant. "Even if it wasn't mean, she killed my brother. Either she resigns and expose the truth to the world, or I'll take down everyone she loves as well!"
