Chapter 8: Phoenix Rescue, Sealed Sapiens
Arian panicked.
"They'll blast all of us without my control!"
Sehki grinned. "Now you're getting it!"
After clapping hands, through the whisper Andromeda, Calypsa fired a chain over to Sehki, who enlarged it with his own shadow. Their opponent covered her legs and torso to block it, only for them to jump and yanked her off the ground on their own with the help of Ainsley's golem.
The two of them clapped hands together.
"Asterism Art!"
"Gorgophone's Lash!"
Calypsa's magic summoned a black chain out of the linking shadow Ainsley's body and Sehki's, with his contribution doubling the speed of the attack. As the DeVoids' mouths unleashed their deadly fire blast, Damien pooped fire on Arian's eyes, dispelling the chains on the earth heir.
The hound pushed Ainsley away as Sehki and Calypsa's joint attack smacked Arian straight in between both giant hellhounds, turning them to one another. Her brain peed itself as the blasts incinerated her, overwhelming and self-inflected the other two.
Taylor flew up and fired a bubble of water to catch her body as Rigal took advantage of Vena and Vital's wounds to dive down and conjure two tornadoes from his fists.
"Aquila! Skyfall Smash!"
His fists dived and drilled into the chests of the beasts, howling in pain as the humanity in Vena and Vital's voice cracked through, begging a simple cry for help. Ainsley summoned a rock storm to continue damaging their actual bodies, leaving them open.
"Sehki!"
He dashed, pulling out his shadow to rip out the Void essence from both bodies. The trio of heis fired attacks to stop their limbs from reaching him while Calypsa joined him.
"Can I give you that picker-upper?"
"Whatever helps!"
After whispering Equuleus, a surge of strength lifted through his body, including another one when her lips touched his cheek as she spoke Andromeda to get a chain out around their arms, and Perseus. Though flustered, they ripped the Void essence out, reverting Vena and Vital back to fae.
The two landed on top of each other. He yawned.
"Thanks, but what was all that for?"
"Perseus and Andromeda's magic gets stronger when they're used in close proximity and the user's romantic drive is high. The little horse boosts all physical stats, with a few quirks depending on the horse you choose."
"Oh, interesting."
"I didn't think we'd form an Asterism Arts this fast," covering their faces from the other heirs. "We should merge way more in the future," she whispered in his ear with coy.
"Huh, combo attacks would be pretty cool," rolling off to spot Vena and Vital side by side a charred Arian. Calypsa waved over her staff, shouting Hercules, slowly using them to heal until the burns lifted off the Rising Twelve's face, while the sibling's eyes awakened.
"The Divine Heirs? Calypsa? But you-"
Calypsa immediately dived down to embrace them inside of her arms, while Damien licked up, instinctively activating the flames they used to play fetch with him.
"Sehki? You saved us? But - we - everything we've done to you - why?"
He laughed and snickered in their face before holding Damien.
"You promised me you'd take care of him. You had him hide when you and Xia were forced to come back here, didn't you?"
Damien's eager bark spoke for all of them while Calypsa apologized.
"I tried my best to convince your dad the loss wasn't your fault. I snuck in to limit the essence caused, but I didn't think he'd get you to Level Four this quickly."
"Wait, her dad experimented with them? That means...oh shoot. Taylor's DeVoid form required way too many people to take down. We can't handle Xia with that power! Come on!"
When they got to the third floor, they found themselves entering what seemed to be a cafeteria, where they encountered four others, including a particular figure: his jet black-purple hair, rivaling a peacock's feathers and violet eyes glared with a skin complexion that mirrored Xia's.
"The remaining members of the Divine Heirs," spotting Hyuga on a different monitor, Vena, Vital, and Arian in their hands while the tension in his eyelids grew.
"Sehki Shakuheld. To what do I owe the unexpected visit?"
The aura around him flustered with feathers dancing around his body, unleashing a violent force of magic power that left the despised heir intrigued and the others disturbed.
That power - it's not as dominating as the heirs, but -
"Mako?"
"That magic power is on par with us!"
"You've gotten stronger?"
His smirk feigned appreciation, cracking into arrogance.
"While you've collectively become a disappointment. With the right modifications, I'm sure I could surpass you based on your performance last month."
Five feather blades hovered alongside the heirs.
"This will be considered an invasion."
Calypsa was about to step forward when Sehki smacked the air forward, unveiling his own mana level, walking forward.
"Don't take a step further!"
Sehki clapped fire and water whips together to form mist around the room, which the others tried to clear quickly.
When it settled, the blade enlarged by the other Rising Twelve's shadows laid an inch from their head while a blade made of violet feathers swung close to the unknown StellArt user. Sehki and Mako's heads barely tilted.
"The Obsidian Prince shrouded in shadows and regret."
"So you must be the Predominant Peacock, the elder family member constantly overlooked by their chosen sibling."
Mako's blade tilted slightly.
"Did I strike a nerve?"
"If you think fighting her was a challenge, you'd best not invoke my wrath."
"She lost to me. So what makes you think you stand a chance?"
As Mako was about to swing, Calypsa's staff stopped in front of his face.
"You asked to hear him out. Let him."
"Hmm. Continue."
"I'm not here to fight you or Xia - we're here to restore her honor."
Mako's eyes rose with curiosity.
"How?"
Sehki smiled.
"To stop the person manipulating her: including your father."
