Marjorie woke up late. As usual. "어떻게 잤어요, 마조리?" (How did you sleep, Marjorie ?) Marjorie often met up with her friends at the cafe they often hung out at. Marjorie smiled weakly. She was still a bit tired in general, "I slept fine, I guess."
This answer obviously concerned her friends. They only wanted Marjorie to take some much needed rest. This wasn't the first time that Marjorie was questioned about her sleeping habits. She either got little sleep or was highly caffeinated to stay awake. "걱정할 것 없어요. 잘 지내요." (You have nothing to worry about, guys. I'm fine.)
Truth was, Marjorie was stubborn & determined. Her father had died when she was young prompting her mother to raise her alone. Well, until she remarried eventually. Marjorie was a great daughter & older sister to her step siblings. However, this gave her no room to find out who she really was without the labels as someone' sister or daughter.
"Still saving to move out ? 너무 말랐나 봐요, 마조리야." (Still saving to move out ? I worry you're wearing yourself too thin, Marjorie ah.) Marjorie wanted her own space. A place where she wasn't defined by labels or expected any sort of way. She often worked countless shifts at the local library, tutored, & babysat to save up money. She would just ask to move out, but she didn't want to trouble anyone.
It was already pitiful to her that her mother completely disregards her late father & barely talks about him. Till this day Marjorie has no real idea of how her father died. Don't get her wrong, she loved her step family with all her heart. However, that didn't mean she wanted to erase her father from her life completely.
"I am. After a few more weeks I will hopefully have enough to get a place," Marjorie asked in a somewhat excited tone. A few more weeks & she'll be out of her mother' house. She could last that long, right ? Currently Marjorie had saved enough over the years from her various jobs & monthly allowance in her banking account.
Soon she would be free. Free to figure out just who exactly she was without pressure from anyone.
