The Sim | 2003 x Robot Reader
A/N: Yea this first one shot is pretty crusty. But don't worry, they'll get better (hopefully). This just happens to be my very first Astro Boy fanfic so I still have to get used to it, ya know?
-----------
"Dr. Oshay? We're here!" Astro called out to the head of the Ministry of Science.
"Oh, how wonderful! Please come in, the simulator has already been set up. All we need to do is get you in the equipment," Dr. Oshay nodded as he went over to one of the lab desks to get the machinery there.
"Oh boy! This is gonna be so cool!" you exclaimed in a gleeful tone. Astro chuckled a bit at your excitement, but a blush started to dust over his cheeks when you grabbed his hand to drag him to the location of the simulator.
"Thank you so much for volunteering, (y/n). You will be helping us save many lives; with this machine, instead of risking the lives of humans and robots, we will be able to take care of dangerous events without leaving the safety of the buildings."
"It's really no problem, I'm glad to help," you said with a big smile.
Astro nodded and glanced at the equipment a bit warily. He usually would not have let you be the test subject for these kinds of things, in fear that something bad will happen to you, instead he would be the one volunteering. But this is Dr. Oshay's invention and he trusted him; he said it was safe.
Dr. Oshay came back from the lab desk with a white helmet and a pair of white gloves and boots with cool blue futuristic patterns on it and handed it to you.
"Okay (y/n), before you put it on, I need you stand on this platform so that when you move, you won't be crashing into things over here."
You nodded and got onto said platform and put on the things. They were comfortable and had a snug fit on your body. Astro followed and watched as Dr. Oshay and some other scientists started to type commands on the large computers. One of the scientists went over to the simulator and flicked a switch, which made the whole thing whirr to life.
"Woah," you gasped, "This is amazing!"
You started to move your arms and legs in awe. Then you started to skip around on the 'grass' you were on.
"So, um Doctor... how does this work?" Astro asked.
"Well, the system uses (y/n)'s eletronic brain waves and movements to transfer them to a large machine in real life. Right now, she is controling a small robot-like machine in a clear section outside of Metro City," Dr. Oshay explained.
Astro nodded again and gazed at you in a loving way. The awestruck and child-like manner of which you were treating this situation made his insides melt. He's known you for a year or two now, since you were created a bit recently, and a couple months after he met you, he realized that he was absolutely crazy about you. You were so beautiful and graceful, so optimistic and friendly, how couldn't he fall head over heels with you?
Flashing red lights from the computers startled him from his daydreaming.
"H-Hey guys? What's going on?" You called out nervously.
"There's something wrong with the simulator! It's not responding!" A scientist shouted.
"What? Impossible! What about the protection systems?" Dr. Oshay asked.
"They're down! Some type of virus took control!"
"What? But who could have sent out this virus?"
"Why hello there, Astro Boy."
A video of the villain showed up on the main screen.
"Skunk!" Astro exclaimed angrily.
He cackled before speaking, "Thanks for creating a new toy for me! It sure will be fun to play with!"
You tried to stop moving so that you could remove the equipment, but no matter how hard you tried, you couldn't do a thing.
"I've lost control! I can't move the way I want to!" You yelled.
"Astro, go over to the location of the simulator robot and shut it down. There's no telling what could happen if Skunk gets to the city!"
Astro gave one long, last glance at you and nodded. But before leaving, he asked, "(y/n) will be fine, right?"
"I'll try to remove the things from her body, of course, but I can't guarantee that I'll be able to accomplish it."
Even though that didn't really reassure him, he decided to just follow directions, although the thought that something terrible was happening to you plagued his mind.
_ - _ - _
Astro had finally arrived to the location of the robot, although it was at the border of Metro City. He blasted towards it and took it by surprise by giving it a big blast with one of his arm cannons.
The thing was stopped in its tracks and was pushed away from the border. It stood back up and shot an array of bullets at Astro. Astro gritted his teeth and dodged them all, while giving another blow to the robot.
Back at the Ministry of Science, you were being thrashed around and feeling immense pain wherever Astro hit the robot. Dr. Oshay noticed this and immediately contacted him.
"Astro! Don't destroy the robot! You need to stop! You're hurting (y/n)!"
That made him freeze in his tracks, he was about to blast it again when he received the call.
"I'm hurting her?" He questioned.
"Yes, they're still connected because of the simulator. Every time you hit the robot, you hit (y/n). You're going to have to find a different way to defeat it."
Astro dodged some more attacks from the menace and asked the doctor, "Is there an off switch?"
"Yes, actually, there is! But it's hard to get to. You need to somehow get the robot to expose its inner chest, like during a powerful blast, perhaps, and swoop in last minute to press it," instructed Dr. Oshay.
"Okay! Got it. Let's rocket!" Astro cried out.
_-_-_-_
You shrieked as you felt a bolt of electricity pulse through your head. The head of the Ministry of Science was attempting to remove the helmet, but it released electrical shocks in response.
"I'm so sorry! I can't seem to be able to remove your helmet. And the gloves had a similar response..." He trailed off as he walked over to the large computers, "What if I try to reprogram it?"
You just laid there, with your hands on your head, trying to think of some way to get rid it. You're a smart robot, so why couldn't you come up with anything?
Dr. Oshay quickly typed something and instructed the others to help him come up with some kind of antidote code. They all quickly got to work and combined their efforts into some kind of super command code. Dr. Oshay immediately sent it to the simulator program, hoping to release you from its painful clutches.
As soon as the command reached the program, you screamed in pain as it seemed to change you.
"(y/n)!" Dr. Oshay cried out.
It hurt so much. It hurt too much.
You gripped your head in attempt to somehow magically stop whatever was happening to you, but it was in vain.
You felt yourself curl up into a fetal position, without you wanting to, and just laying there.
"Ah, ah, ah! Some lousy program won't be able to stop this!" Skunk teased from a video on one of the computers.
"What are you doing to her!" Dr. Oshay exclaimed.
"You'll see..." he cackled before zapping out of the screen again.
"(y/n)? (y/n)?! (y/n)!" Dr. Oshay called to you, but you didn't do anything, your eyes had an empty look and were kept wide open. You weren't responding, you were limp and your electronic brain had been stunned.
_-_-_-_
When the robot saw Astro stop dodging momentarily, it powered up its chest blast. It unknowingly exposed its button, and seconds before it was able to unleash the blast, Astro used his rocket powered boots to get to the robot quickly and click the button.
As soon as he had finished with the robot, he recieved an urgent call from Dr. Oshay.
"Astro! Come back quickly! Something is wrong with (y/n) and we can't fix it!"
At hearing this, Astro blasted frantically to the Ministry of Science to see what had happened to his love.
- - -
When Astro saw your limp, dead self on the floor, he quickly rushed over to you and held you in his arms.
"What happened to her?!" He cried out as tears were starting to fill his eyes.
"We don't know! We tried to get rid of the virus but this happened instead!" Some scientist cried back.
"(y/n)... No... If only I hadn't let you volunteer, this wouldn't be happening!" Astro whimpered as he started to cry.
"Oh please, don't get your feelings in a bunch." Skunk rolled his eyes.
"YOU! YOU WERE THE ONE WHO DID THIS TO HER!"
"I barely even scratched her. Don't worry things'll get better from here."
"How?! How are things supposed to get better?!"
He gave off a malicious smirk, "That robot you shut down? That was only the tip of the iceberg. My real robot, my most prized possesion, I have yet to show you. -Actually, no. You have seen it. In fact, you could say..." he paused, "she's right beside you."
Dr. Oshay and Astro's eyes widened as they looked over to your limp, empty form. Somehow, your eyelids were closed, which Astro clearly remembered were opened a few seconds ago, and when you opened them, your irises were a bright blood red. With a single punch, you sent Astro smashing against the wall. All the other scientists shrieked and scurried away while Dr. Oshay stayed to analyze you and try to find a way to exterminate the virus.
Astro groaned as he tried to stand up. That punch really took him by surprise.
"Astro! Skunk, he's controling (y/n)! And I can't find a way to get rid of it!" Dr. Oshay yelled out to him, "It's not responding to anything I do!"
You used an arm cannon and blasted it in Astro's direction. He quickly dodged and flew to another part of the room.
"Sure, she isn't as powerful as you, Astro, but I knew that you would never want to hurt her. I've seen how you act around her! You love her, don't you?" Skunk sneered.
Astro was too busy dodging your attacks, he knew Skunk was right, he would never hurt you, ever, which only made things worse. How was he spposed to get you back? He certainly didn't want to destroy you. He knew that the sweet, energetic, kind (y/n) he fell in love with was still in there.
As if reading his mind, you respond with, "This is who I am now. The old (y/n) you knew is dead."
"No she's not!" Astro grunted as he deflected a cannon blast, "She's still alive! I can feel it!"
You cackled; what a fool!
You blasted toward him and threw a punch, which he deflected again.
"Ugh!" You huffed. You couldn't land a single blow on him, besides the first one. Then, a twisted thought came into your mind that would surely leave him vulnerable.
You grinned and directed your arm cannon at Astro, but you quickly changed the direction and blasted in the direction of Dr. Oshay.
Astro gasped and threw himself infront of the blast, "Watch out doctor!" He yelled from the pain of the blast and dropped to the floor, "Run away!"
Dr. Oshay nodded and said a quick thanks but before he left, he said, "Astro! Try to do or show her something that reminds her of something important to her! It might be able to reset her electronic brain and get rid of the virus! Also, I have the location of Skunk now, so I'll alert the authorities and get him arrested."
Astro nodded and was about to get up when he was blasted again. He groaned and tried to get up, but was thrown back to the ground by your kick.
"Please, (y/n)... It's me, your best friend! Don't you remember the good times? Please say you remember me!"
You stared blankly at him and repeatedly blasted him, until he was strewn on the floor, damaged.
"(y/n)! Please! Don't! I-I-"
You giggled and got closer to his face while holding up the final blast, "Any last words?"
Then an idea came to him, an idea so absurd and crazy, that if he weren't staring at the beautiful face of death itself, he would have blushed like crazy.
He took a deep breath and leaned into your face, kissing you.
You froze, you weren't expecting this. Astro took this opportunity to hold you and lean more into the kiss.
Your eyes start to tear up and flicker from red to (e/c) until you close your eyes and lean in too. You wrap your arms around his neck and you both stayed in that position for a while. Eventually, you let go and start to cry.
"I-I'm so sorry... I never meant for any of that... I felt trapped, I couldn't do anything!... I'm so sorry," You sobbed into his beat up shoulder. Astro made peaceful shushing sounds and stroked his hand through your hair.
"It's fine, it's ok. I know," He whispered soothingly to you.
Finally, you let go again and looked into his eyes. He took ahold of your hands and interwined his fingers in yours, saying, "I love you."
You smiled and leaned your forehead into his, whispering, "I love you too."
• • •
"WHAT? How was that even possible?! The plan was perfect! How did this happen!" Skunk cried out as he was being put into a police car.
Dr. Oshay stood there with his arms crossed, "You underestimated the power of love."
"Blech! You're making this sound like some crusty soap opera or kid's show."
Dr. Oshay shrugged and turned around as Detective Tawashi shut the door to the car and got in the driver's seat to bring him to prison. He walked to Astro and you and smiled.
"Congratulations, you two!"
"Thank you!" You both said at the same time. You giggled and placed a kiss on Astro's cheek, which only made a bright blush dust over his cheeks, which only made you giggle some more.
A/N: Ok so yea, sorry for the crusty ending, I didn't know what to write. Sorry it's also really long, this was just super planned. This is the most I've written for a fanfic actually, around 2461 words. Wow!
So um, I hope you enjoyed it! I'll have another one sooner or later, I already have a vague idea for it, but I need to plan some more.
Welp, that's it! See y'all later!
;)
