✮ Astro Boy (2009 Movie) x Reader // Night In Japan
You sat on a small sofa in your loungeroom, looking through channels on television. Most of the channels were for food, making your stomach grumble. Even if you couldn't yet understand the language, you didn't need to hear how good they were, you could see it. You frowned and turned off your TV. "Ah jeez.. I could really go for some Miso soup." You thought aloud to yourself.
"Do you want to head out?" A familiar robot peaked his head out the side of your bedroom door. "We could get some late dinner." He looked up at the clock placed above your TV, it read 9:00.
You perked up from the couch and nodded. "Yes please." You grinned making him chuckle.
"Alright, get some warm clothes on, it's cold outside." He warned you while grabbing his own blue jacket and putting it on. You looked over to the other side of the couch and there lay a coat of your own. You tried to reach it but it was too far away.
"I can't, my jacket is too far away." You tried to reach it again and failed. Astro came around the couch with his hands in his pockets and rolled his eyes at you.
"Come on," He took your jacket and opened it so you could put your arms through it. "Aren't you starving?" He cocked up his brow at you. You nodded slowly and fake pouted while getting up. You placed your arms through the armholes of the jacket and Astro put it over your shoulders.
"Where should we go to eat?" You asked, snuggling into your fluffy jacket.
"Erm... There's a small restaurant a few stop away from here." Astro told. You smiled.
"We're going to catch the train then?"
"Well yeah, I'm not flying you there." He chuckled. "At least- not this late at night." You beamed.
"I haven't been on a train yet!" You told him.
"Oh really?" He smiled at you while walking towards the door.
"Mhm. I haven't been in Japan long enough to try everything yet." You shrugged. He opened the door for you to walk out of and you did. "But I'm excited to go to some temples!"
"I know a few temples we could visit." Astro walked out of your apartment behind you.
~~~
"The trains are really fast, so when you get on, be sure to grab hold onto a pole," Astro informed you. You didn't listen though, you just spent all your coins on a vending machine. "Y/N!" Astro turned to you, "Are you even listening to me?"
"No." You reached down and picked a drink out of the vending machine. You smiled and popped off the cap. Astro sighed and rolled his eyes.
"You know, drinks from vending machines in train stations are usually pretty gross." He waved his finger at you while walking up to the vending machine you bought a random drink from. He looked at the drinks behind the glass. "Which one did you get?" He questioned.
"Number.. two." You told him while moving the yellow drink to your lips, taking a sip. Astro squinted his eyes at the second drink in the machine and read the Japanese label in English to you.
"You bought.. Curry lemonade," As soon as he said that, your gag reflex kicked in from how disgusting the drink tasted. You spat it out, coloring the dirty vending machine glass a dull yellow. Astro cringed. "Nice one..."
Your tongue hung out of your mouth. "fhats sow gwoss." Astro shook his head and moved towards the vending machine. He bought something, but you were too busy trying to get the taste out of your mouth to see what it was.
"Here, let's do a swap." He held out a purple and pink drink to you. You took it and passed the curry lemonade to him. You looked at the label, which of course you couldn't read, due to it being a completely different language. Astro saw you trying to figure out the label and said it was grape flavored. You frowned and took a small taste. Your eyes widened once the juice hit your tongue.
"It's so good!" You took a long chug to get the horrid taste of curry out of your mouth. Astro came back after throwing the curry lemonade out.
He smiled and said, "I thought you would like it."
"Thank you! How much do I owe you?" You dug around in your pocket for change.
"Don't worry about it Y/N, you're a guest in my country, so I have to take care of you." He puffed out his chest. You nodded and turned back to the vending machine.
"Then I want another!" You tried to find the grape flavor. Astro sighed and shook his head no.
"Come on. Our train is here." He took ahold of your hand to take you into the train that had just arrived.
"But it was so good!" You cried.
"We can get better drinks at the restaurant." The electronic doors closed behind you and Astro.
"Okay..." You reluctantly agreed. Astro moved to a pole and held onto it, you didn't though, you stood in front of him while looking out the glass doors to the vending machine you desperately missed.
"Y/N, hold onto something before-" Before Astro could warn you, the train sped off, making you fall backwards.
"Wah!" You cried out, losing your balance. You started stumbling back and you were sure you were going to hit the ground when a hand quickly wrapped itself around your back and pulled you up. Your body was firmly pressed up against Astro's as he tightly held your waist.
"I told you to hold onto something, these trains are way fast." He gripped tighter onto the pole. "Are you okay?" He questioned, looking down at you. You nodded.
"Y-Yeah! Thanks, Astro." You leaned on him, your head resting on his shoulder. "I guess I should listen more."
"Well, at least you know next time." Astro pat your back and sighed.
The two of you stayed close for the rest of the trip. It was really only a few stops until you both reached the small town. You were dozing off on Astro's shoulder until he whispered 'time to go, we're here' and pat your head gently to wake you up.
You groggily stood up straight and shot him a tired smile. "Yayyy, food."
"Are you too tired? Do you want me to take you back home?" Astro asked. He let you lean on him as you both got off the train.
"Nah, I was just having a nap." You put your arms up and leaned back, stretching your muscles. Astro smiled.
"Then let's get going." You continued to lean on his side and walk with him to the restaurant
Once the two of you got into a nice store, warmth hit you in the face. You blinked a few times and then looked around. Astro had taken you to a family restaurant, also known as a Shokudo.
You rubbed your eyes and looked around, the restaurant only had about two or three people in it. It was lit up by orange and red lanterns that mixed nicely with the pale brown wood used for the tables and seats. The smell of meat hit your nose, making your stomach react. Astro took you to a table and took a seat next to you.
"What would you like to get?" He asked.
"You should choose for me." You told. He nodded and looked down at a menu.
"How about we share a bento box?" He looked back up at you.
"I don't know what that is! But yes!" You nodded. He laughed.
"If you don't like it, there's an American restaurant next door," Astro informed you. You sighed in relief. He sat up and tried to catch the attention of the chef. "Sumimasen!" He shouted in Japanese. You drowned out the sound of his Japanese since you couldn't understand anything. You looked down at the menu, trying to spot any English words. There were some words like 'Cheap!' 'Good taste!' or 'Yummy!' They didn't make much sense, but you got the message.
"How was your trip to Japan?" Astro questioned. He had finished the order.
"Tiring." You admitted, putting down the menu. "The plane was cozy and neat, but I couldn't get to sleep." You rubbed the back of your neck.
"How come?" Astro tilted his head to the side.
"Ah, I can never really sleep on planes." You admitted.
"Are you still feeling sick?" Astro frowned, feeling bad for you
"Nah, I had a day or two to get over it." You smiled, he nodded in relief.
Soon, your meal had arrived. It was sitting inside a black porcelain box. Each bit of the meal was in its own little area. There was some pork covered in some honey, there was some sushi, rice, chicken, and prawns. It all had such a sweet smell, making your mouth water. Astro took a piece of sushi and poured a little bit of soy source onto it. You did the same as him.
"Is it good?" He asked. You nodded and chewed with closed eyes.
"Yush, its sow good." You swallowed the food, and quickly took another bite. Astro chuckled at your eagerness.
"So, what do you plan to do in Japan?" He asked. You swallow your food again.
"Hm, I'm not sure. Maybe go to the hot springs, or look at some cherry trees!" You started eating some other bits of the bento box.
"You might need to learn some Japanese if you want to get around on your own." He uttered.
"Learn Japanese? Ah jeez, who would I ask?" You thought out loud.
"You can always ask me!" Astro grinned and pointed to himself.
"No way. You're so smart! And I'm so slow at learning, I'd be too embarrassed." You shook your head no. "Maybe I should ask another friend to teach me a few things."
Astro shrugged. "I'd help no matter how slow you were."
After some more eating and chatting, it had become very late. You began to get more tired and Astro noticed. You both finished your meal and began to pack up your things. You both walked out of the restaurant tired and full.
"Want me to walk you back home?" He looked at you.
"I think I'll manage." You stood up. "Thanks for the meal." You blinked slowly.
"I'll take you home." Astro linked arms with you and began walking to the station you both came from.
"Thanks Astro. To be honest, I don't actually know where I live yet." You giggled a little. Astro rolled his eyes and shook his head.
"Come on, you need to get back to bed."
~~~
"Are you sure you'll be alright?" Astro asked, standing in the threshold of your apartment.
"I'll be fine, don't you worry about me." You waved him off. "All I need to do is tuck myself into bed, I'm sure I can manage that." You smiled at him.
"I wouldn't be so sure." Astro joked. You laughed.
"Well, thanks for the nice night Astro." You bowed, trying to copy some Japanese behavior. This just made Astro laugh.
"Come here you." Astro leaned over and pulled you into a hug. "Make sure to call me if you have any issues, okay? I'll be over to help you in a jiffy."
"Yes Mom." You hugged him back tightly. He then pulled away after a minute or two.
"Goodnight, Y/N." He smiled softly at you and began walking down the stairs of your apartment house. You quickly tried to think of a small bit of Japanese you knew.
"Sayonara!" That did mean 'goodbye' but you didn't pronounce it very well. Astro chuckled and continued walking.
"Sayōnara!" He waved.
You closed your door and let out a breath of fresh air. You turned off your loungeroom light and waddled to your bedroom. You opened the door and expected to see your messy room, but you were faced with a tidy room and a perfect bed. No wonder that robot was in your room for so long, he had made your bed and set up your room while he was over at your house. You collapsed onto the freshly made bed and didn't bother getting changed, you just closed your eyes and drifted off to sleep without a care in the world.
