4 [Meeting]
About half an hour ago, I never would've dreamed to a part of one of my boss' meetings. Even though I was his personal assistant, all I did during his meetings was stand beside him and give him whatever he needed whenever he needed. It was exciting, really, but it wasn't what I had hoped it would be.
"Are you certain that your office is safe?" Hanji Zoe, a person I had only met just an hour or so before spoke with a suspicious tone. They were an interesting person, if I was being honest: very loud and messy, from what I could make of. I wondered how Mr Ackerman ever came to meet such a person; him being so quiet and clean. I also wondered how I had never met them before. "No cameras, or even secret agents hiding behind paintings?"
Mr Ackerman scoffed, "Of course my office is safe, and no, there are no cameras - well, there are but they've been turned off," He paused, "And there are no fucking agents hiding behind paintings. Heck, I don't even own paintings!"
I smiled awkwardly, not sure of what I was supposed to do, or even why I was given permission to partake in such a private meeting. I had chosen to take a seat fairly close to the exit, if ever I was asked to leave, as I thought Hanji had lost a screw to allow me to be there.
Hanji laughed loudly, "Okay, okay, if you're so sure." They then regained her composure, their face and tone twisting into a serious one, "Now, I would like to discuss with you the reason why I have come to you today. This also involves Eren over there, so that's why I've asked him to be here as well. Though before I begin, I'd like to ask - no, demand that anything that has been said in this room, stays in this room."
I nodded, understanding, and gulped out of nervousness, not entirely ready to hear what she was going to say. My stoic boss, however, just sat at his desk chair comfortably, glaring as if to say: "Just get on with it already".
"I found something," They spoke dramatically, as if to create a mysterious atmosphere, "I found something that you'll never have believed existed!" They started to jump up and down excitedly while exclaiming, "Can you believe it?!"
I would've been lying if I said I wasn't curious as to what this eccentric person had found, and it looked like Mr Ackerman was the same as well, "Well, go on then. Don't keep us waiting. What did you find?"
"A map!" They yelled loudly. I was confused. A map? What was so special about a map? "But this isn't just any old map! It's a," They paused for dramatic effect, their eyes widening and twinkling in pure excitement, "Treasure map."
It's amazing how one little thing - a decision or even a single movement - could change the outcome of the event in so many different ways. When you think about it, it honestly blows your mind away. Well, at least for me it does. Never would I have known that befriending the notorious Levi would bring me to this point.
I gulped and fiddled with my hands, a little hot from the suit I was wearing. I glanced around at the people around me. It was crowded, extremely so. Nerve wracking was what it was, I didn't feel comfortable at all.
"Jaeger, get your head out of the clouds already," A cold voice spoke, seemingly annoyed, but I could not detect any malice in them, "Hurry up now, or else we'll miss our flight."
I nodded stiffly, "Yes, sir. I apologise, sir." I walked around to the back of the black cab we had taken and opened the trunk to bring out our luggage. I then proceeded to pay the cab driver, handing him a twenty dollar bill, "Don't worry, keep the change, sir." The man nodded and drove off.
And then the two of us walked into the airport, two fairly large suitcases dragging behind me.
