Part 43
Admin;;Me,Aria): hi it's me! This chapter is going to be a bit different. But later on, depending on how long I have to write and edit, hopefully you'll see that this is pertinent to the story. Let's get onto it)
(the flashback of the late 1800's fades and its back to the present the year 2020 A woman presumed to have a youthful appearance lays on the cold marble table of the animus machine with something covering her eyes. She's allowed to get up from the marble table. A man comes over to her in a lab coat with a clipboard.
Man: Subject 25. West, Elayna.
Elayna: Am I free to go?
(Elayna West has brown hair mahogany eyes stands at five feet four inches and wears baggy clothing that isn't particularly her size. A tomboy)
Man: For now. But don't expect for us to leave you alone Ms. West. We're almost close. I can feel it.
(Elayna shakes her head and leaves the building)
Elayna: What a waste of time.
(She gets into her old beat up car and drives back to her college at the university. There, she is stumbled across by the dean of the university a female)
Dean: Elayna. Could you come into my office real quick?
Elayna: Um... ok?
(They both walk into her office and the dean folds both her hands on the table and Elayna sits down)
Dean: Ms. West. People are starting to talk about the fact you're seeing someone at an important business.
Elayna: Its nobody's concern but mine.
Dean: i understand. But the point is, for your sake...I don't think it's safe for you to be on school grounds. For your reputation.
Elayna: Mine? ....or yours?
(The dean changes the subject)
Dean: You'll have your belongings removed from the premises. We can't have something like this affecting our school. You understand right?
Elayna: If this is exactly what you want, then fine.
(She shakes her head and leaves the dean's office and goes over to her dorm to clean out some stuff to take back with her then a girl comes inside the dorm)
Girl: I forgot my---Ho, what's all this? What are you doing?
Elayna: I have to leave Karleigh. Sorry I can't explain.
Karleigh: I can guess. Everyone is starting to talk about what's up with you.
Elayna: I know and people should mind their business.
Karleigh: As your friend I think that---
Elayna: You're not my friend Karleigh. I'm your roommate. You even said at the beginning you didn't want to be friends. So quit acting like a friend. Because we both know you're not.
(And Karleigh puts a hand on her hip)
Karleigh: You know Elayna maybe this is why people don't want to be around you. You're so distant, you're so anti social, and you push people away. Why?
Elayna: Stop trying to get to know me. I don't need to explain anything to you or anyone else for that matter. You don't know me. And I don't want you to get to know me. You're just like everyone else.
Karleigh: How?
(Then she changed the subject)
Elayna: You can have the rest of my items. I'm just taking my books and clothes with me. Nothing else matters. Whatever I leave in this room is yours now. Do with it what you will.
Karleigh: Elayna!
(She takes out her luggage and doesn't look back)
Elayna; Take care Karleigh.
(She drags her luggage with her walking down the main hallway hearing everyone talking about her)
person: I hear she's some type of rat experiment at some unknown place.
Person: Even so she doesn't belong here.
Another person: I knew there was something wrong with her the second she stepped foot into this school.
"Did you hear that she talks to imaginary people? You'd think that someone like her would outgrow something like that. But that happens to children who outgrow that. Clearly not her"
(because she lives in a small town and goes to a university college,it isn't the first time she's been prone to people talking to her. She puts her luggage in the back of her trunk and she begins to drive away from the campus. She drives about half an hour away to one of those houses in a poor neighborhood. She gets out of her car and takes her luggage out and goes on top of the stairs where the front porch is at. She rings the doorbell and waits a moment. Then the door is opened.
Man: (smiles): Hi honey.
Elayna: Hey, dad. Long time no see.
(The man has dark black hair brown eyes about 6 feet and is dressed somewhat messy. His name is Daniel West)
Daniel: Come inside. We have much to catch up on.
(Then when they walk into the living room, she sees empty alcohol bottles on the coffee table and looks deep into his eyes)
Elayna: Are you drunk in the middle of the day again?
Daniel: No...I'm buzzed...
Elayna: Fine. We'll talk about it later. I'm tired right now. I'm not having a good day.
Daniel: Then you should get some sleep. Your room is just how you left it.
(She goes over to the other room and goes to her bedroom. It's an empty bedroom, empty closet, and an empty shelf with some small holes on the walls and uncolored, just a bed by itself sheetless)
Elayna: Great. Just what I need.
(She puts her stuff down and lays down on the bed she stares at the window and begins to have some flashbacks)
(a woman is seen lying on the floor with her eyes purely white and her eyes in an abnormal angle)
Daniel: Honey!? Are you okay!? What happened!?
(He looks at the pills on the floor)
Seven year old Elayna: Mom!
(Then an ambulance comes and takes the woman away.
Paramedic: I'm not getting a pulse. Are you getting anything!?
Pandemic: None so far.
Paramedic: Get her to the hospital! Quick!
*****
Doctor: I'm sorry, Mr. West.
(Daniel rubs his eyes with his index finger and thumb not knowing what to do. His heart is completely broken seven year old Elayna looks over from the chair over to her father who is sobbing and distraught. She already knows her mother isn't here anymore)
********
(A couple months go by for Elayna. She's back at school. She sits at the playground. A couple of girls come over to her.
Little girl: You wanna play with us?
Elayna: Yeah.
(She smiles and gets up)
little girl 2: As if we wanna play with you!
Little girl 3: Freak!
(They throw playground woodchips at her and walk away Elayna looks back and sees an adult who turned the other cheek the second Elayna looked at her)
******
(Elayna is seen in her bedroom in tears talking)
Elayna: Your stories always keep me coming. That's one of the reasons you're my only friends. I feel like whatever is happening, you're always there when I need you.
(The scene pans out to her talking to no one. Absolutely no one. Then she wipes her tears away smiling)
I will never let you go.
(Next day at school. The teacher notices something off about Elayna. She's in the corner talking to no one again. Then he calls the school psychiatrist)
Teacher: I don't know. I could be wrong. Elayna keeps having these abnormal conversations. I have a bad feeling and I'm starting to worry for her....right...alright...thank you.
(Then he looks again at Elayna who is seen hugging a teddy bear in the corner of his eye)
*****
(Elayna and Daniel go wait outside of the therapist office. Then a woman comes outside to them)
Therapist: Elayna? Hi sweetie! Why don't you come in? Let's talk Hmm?
(Elayna looks back at her dad)
Daniel: Go on.
(He waits for her and she goes with the therapist)
Therapist: Alright, Elayna. How is school going?
Elayna: Good.
(She gives a half smile to her)
Therapist: Any trouble at school?
Elayna: mm-mm.
(Then she thinks of something)
Therapist: How about you draw with me Hmm? Do you like drawing?
Elayna: Y-yeah.
(She hands her a blank sheet of paper and drawing utensils)
Therapist: Now, a friend of mine has always said to draw with whatever is on your mind. So Elayna that's what I want you to do.
Elayna: Okay!
(She goes ahead and draws on the blank sheet)
And...done!
Therapist: Great job! Let me see.
(Elayna hands her the blank sheet then the therapist gets confused)
Elayna, is this you in the middle? You sitting down?
Elayna: Yeah.
Therapist: And who are these people?
(She points to the picture of a girl and boy one with brown hair and one with blond hair)
Elayna: My friends...
Therapist: I see. Tell me. Do they talk to you?
Elayna: Yeah.
Therapist: What do they talk to you about?
Elayna: Their stories...about back then.
Therapist: Back then?
Elayna: Yeah. Like princes and soldiers and stuff.
Therapies: Do they hurt you? Tell you what to do? Bad things? Good things?
Elayna: Nothing like that. They're very good people.
Therapist: When did you started seeing them?
Elayna: After my mommy died.
Therapist: Do they have names?
Elayna: yeah! They're both grownups. The grownup with the brown hair is Hilda and the grownup with the blond is Tristan.
Therapist: What kind of stories do they tell you?
Elayna: Tristan was a respected knight prince. And Hilda was a maid. Then she became...I don't know what that word means. But she had this thing on her arm and she would always take down the bad soldiers.
Therapist: Take down? What does that mean?
Elayna: She would take them down and they go on the floor.
Therapist: They die?
Elayna: I think so. They don't get up at all.
*the therapist shakes her head*
Therapist: Elayna, do you ever get scared they could turn on you?
Elayna: Sometimes. But they assure me everything will be alright.
(Then the therapist writes down something in her notepad)
Therapist: Wait here ok?
(Elayna nods. And the therapist exits out of the room and goes over to Daniel)
Daniel: Well?
Therapist: She could be experiencing symptoms of schizophrenia. That's all I could determine it as.
Daniel: I don't understand.
Therapist: I could be wrong, Mr. West. But I highly think she should see a doctor at a hospital to be sure what is going on. But for all we know for sure, this may be a phase she's going through and eventually she'll come back again. .
Daniel: Thank you, doctor.
(Then Elayna comes back out with Daniel)
Elayna: Can we go home now, daddy?
Daniel: Yeah, ok.
(Elayna narrating; But little did I know, it would only get worse):
******
Daniel: I don't know what's going on with you Elayna! Why Elayna? Why are you like this!? Why are you talking to these people who don't even exist?
Elayna: I can't make them go away dad!
Daniel: You're scaring me. You're not the little girl I thought you were, Elayna. You're very distant, you're very anti social, you don't even have any friends.
Elayna: But daddy---
Daniel: We're gonna take you to a doctor and have you tested more I can't do this anymore I just can't. I'm just done...
(he walks away from the living room leaving Elayna in tears with an unknown presence touching her shoulder)
(Elayna narrating: Nobody took me serious then. What makes them think they could take me serious now?
(When she was in her teen years)
Elayna continues to narrate: Middle school years weren't any better. Word had spread around quickly about my talking to imaginary people who didn't exist in front of them and I didn't have any friends growing up because I couldn't help myself to talk to Tristan and Hilda. But I guess it came at a cost, was I wrong to be doing something like this? Who were these people that were getting into my head and talking to me so vividly?)
Girl: Hey freak! Are you still talking to yourself?
Girl 2: Why don't you get out of here?
Boy; Its clear you don't belong here. Maybe you should end up like your imaginary friends.
(They all laugh walking away from her. Then when she walks down the corridor she hears more people talking about her)
"She should really leave. Its obvious she isn't well"
"I heard she's some Guinea pig experiment for some company who tests on people like her for research but no one knows what it is"
"if I was in her position I would literally want to kill myself"
then everyone starts laughing amongst themselves staring at her and then looking back to one another gossiping.
(When she was seventeen)
(Elayna goes over to one of the workers in the main office)
Elayna: I'm here to pick up my diploma.
Worker: Oh. You're not going to graduation?
Elayna: No.
Worker: Okay. Let me go get it. What's your name?
Elayna: Elayna West.
Worker: Alright hang on.
(She goes and comes back with her diploma)
here you go. But you're missing out.
(Elayna takes it and goes out the door and leave the school never coming back again)
(Cue back with Elayna getting out of bed for the day. She gets an unknown call from her android phone)
Elayna: Yeah?
Worker: We need you down here again. And if you cooperate, nothing bad will happen to you.
Elayna: Fine. I'm on my way.
(She hangs up the phone and exits out of her old bedroom she goes over in her car and goes back to the company using her as an experiment)
Lab coat worker: Change of plan. You're gonna stay here for a while, subject 25.
Elayna: You've gotta be kidding.
Lab cost worker: One of our head doctors already discussed it with us. You're not leaving the facility.
Elayna: You're not telling me what to do. No. Are you serious? You can't do that to me.
(Then the Head doctor comes out)
Doctor: But we can, Ms. West. Nobody can help you. And even if they did, everything will be pinned on you. So it's your choice. The cops will be after you and everything will get worse. Now get in the animus. We have much to do.
(Then one of the doors slides open. Its Elayna's father)
Daniel: This is where you've been this whole time!?
Elayna: Dad? How did---
Daniel: I followed your car. I knew something was happening. What are you doing to my daughter?
Doctor: Not your concern. Gentleman. (He beckons some doctors to come to forcefully escort Daniel out but he refuses for them to touch him)
Daniel: Don't touch me. This is my daughter. You can't just keep her here and expect me not to know what's going on.
Elayna: Dad...you know those voices in my head from when I was a little girl?
Daniel: Yes.
Elayna: They were real people...
Daniel: So all this time...you weren't lying...
Elayna: Yeah...
Daniel: So what does all this mean?
(Before she has a chance to say, it's the doctors turn to speak)
Doctor: Get him out of here.
Daniel: This is my daughter. I want to be with her.
Doctor: You can't be in the test area. Escort him back to the front.
Elayna: I'm sorry dad!
(The doctors forcefully escort him out and Elayna has tears in her eyes and looks back at the doctor)
Doctor: I don't give a shit about what just happened. Get back in the animus. Now.
(Elayna does as she's told and goes back inside)
