Part 38
Templar goes over to the Dungeon and opens up one of the cages for the prisoners its Man and Man 2 from earlier)
templar: Roman Lahzar summons you.
(Templar and the other templar take man and man 2 before Roman Lahzar and they have shackles on their hands and feet)
Roman: Ah. Finally. Now we can have our little chat.
Man: We have nothing to say to you.
Roman: Now now you haven't heard my proposal.
Man 2: Why should we listen to you?
Roman: Because it may be the only time you'll be alive much longer. So listen carefully. I have a job for you.
Man: Never.
Roman: If that's what you wish. You'll be sent to the scaffold then since youre no longer of any use to me. Guards.
(Then Man 2 speaks up)
Man 2: What is it?
Roman: Interested eh? Alright. I'll tell you. You go into town and you pursue those tyrants. The WANTED posters should tell you everything.
Man: The prince and the girl?
Roman: And there's a third one too.
Man: But he was the former prince.
Roman: Who's side are you on!?
Man: No one's.
Roman: Then you can shut your mouth and begin your research. Get out.
(Then they leave. Cue back to Harper with his job search around the village. He sees a small bank revenue worker arguing with someone)
Banker: How much is it gonna pay!?
Architect: You heard me.
Banker: But that's not in the budget!
Architect: then I guess you're gonna lose your precious building.
Banker: You money grubbing bastard!
(Architect leaves then he turns over to Harper)
If you're here for your money, forget it. It won't be available anymore.
Harper: Hold on. Maybe I could help. What's the problem?
Banker: I hired one of the town's architect to upgrade my revenue but at last, they want to rip me off!
Harper: Maybe you could take a look at my blueprints?
Banker; Are you a skilled architect?
Harper: I'm in learning.
Banker: Then beat it. I'm looking for someone who has experience.
Harper: Say good bye to your revenue then. All of the workers are gonna say the exact same that the other one said to you. With me, it's a take it or leave it kind of deal.
Banker: You don't say?
Harper: What do you say?
Banker: Give me the bloody blueprints.
(Cue back to the penthouse that Tristan is in Bridge checks Tristan's wound)
Bridge: Looks like the bruise is going down. Do you still have some discomfort?
Tristan: A little bit.
Bridge: I'll prescribe you with a little bit more but that's all you're getting. These pills can become highly addictive.
Tristan: Of course.
(Bridge writes it down and hands him small orange bottle)
So since my bruise has gone down, how about an answer to my question?
Bridge: I didn't find any abnormalities but I wouldn't put it past that. You can be able to fight in battle again. But if it comes back again, there's only so much i can do for you.
Hilda: What about surgery to correct the problem?
Bridge: It does seem effective I'll tell you that. But because Roman Lahzar is in power right now, all of Electus will have all our money disappear. Sooner even. So we're in a tough economy right now. I'm not saying we haven't been before Roman came into power. But it's much worse now and its going to get worse unless something is done about it.
Tristan: Well, from now on, I'm gonna have to be more careful then.
(Cue back into town Tristan and Hilda are walking back to the manor but are stopped by a public physical altercation between Roman Lahzar and what looks like a worker from the castle)
Worker: No. No. Please spare me. I don't know anything! I've got a family! Please don't do this!
Roman: You know what I want so spit it out.
Worker: I don't know what you're talking about.
Roman: Let me refresh your memory. The assassin, the prince, the servant boy. You're associating with them aren't you?
Worker: No I swear!
Roman: I have ways of making you talk.
(He takes out his cigar from his mouth and burns the worker with it. He let's out a screaming noise)
Well!?
Worker: I would never associate with them! I only worked there I always kept to myself! Please! Let me go!
Roman: I'll let you go...forever.
(Roman gets his dagger out and stabs the worker in the chest three times making the worker fall to the ground dead)
Let this be a lesson to you townsfolk! If my guards or I catch you associating with those tyrants you're gonna have me to answer to! And if you think I'm not gonna rid the bad, think again! Those people are poisoning our town with their crimes! And I will not stand for it! Go on with your business!
(They all walk away and Hilda and Tristan look at each other)
Tristan: Let's go!
(He grabs her hand and they both run back to the manor removing their masks)
Hilda: that man is as sly as a fox!
Tristan: We can't help them, Hilda. Our army isn't equipped to handle all of those templars and Roman.
Hilda: There has to be something we can do.
Tristan: Let me handle it.
(Leighton and Harper)
Harper: There is still some hope after all!
Leighton: You got someone?
Harper: Yeah! This banker guy!
Leighton: How much is he going to pay you?
Harper: I told him I'm desperate...
Leighton: Okay. Well maybe you shouldn't of said that. Its giving him an opportunity to take advantage of you.
Harper: It is?
Leighton: Yeah. Don't take this the wrong way Harper. But you're just too nice to be honest. If you want them to take you serious, you should be a little tougher.
Harper: In what context?
Leighton: Tough guy. In and out. And if someone hits you in the kisser you do the same thing back.
Harper: Oh I don't want to go back to do the same thing again.
Leighton: This isn't the first time? Whar happened to your toughness?
Harper: When I was abandoned here in the village, I made friends with some boys my age and I would manipulate them to do petty crimes around the city. Thieving, hitting, and stuff. I was pretty bad as a child. Until i did time at the castle to work. And I stopped my ways.
Leighton: And you're afraid you're gonna resort back to being that way?
Harper: Basically.
Leighton: Be tough for your own good, Harper. Don't do it because you were hurting back then.
Harper: But how else could I do it?
Leighton: Just do what you did back then, minus the hurt. If you don't stand up for yourself in this world, you'll never learn anything.
(Hilda is seen sitting on the couch by herself in her own thoughts then Tristan comes and sits next to her)
Tristan: How are you holding up since all this?
Hilda: I still can't believe this is happening.
Tristan: Yeah. I still keep thinking this is a dream and we'll wake up from it soon.
Pause silence
Hilda: I think I'm ready to tell you my story.
Tristan: We don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. If its too painful.
Hilda: No. I want to.
Tristan: I'm listening.
Hilda: Well to start...
(She tells him everything. From her dream, from the man and woman, her torture, the kidnapping, and the nightmares that came with it and then when it's over Tristan nods)
Tristan: You were an orphan.
Hilda: Yes.
Tristan: Your father was murdered.
Hilda: Yes.
Tristan: And they took you and hurt you for days then it turned into years.
Hilda: Yeah...
Tristan: What became of your village?
Hilda: Its extinct. It's a mere lake now with the wooden seat.
Tristan: It must have been hard for you not to tell anybody about it. To be alone like that.
Hilda: Yeah. It is.
Tristan: I hadn't realized that.
Hilda: Things happen I suppose.
She shakes her head)
Tristan: How are you doing since all this?
Hilda: I'm going insane. I just want to escape it all with bubbly or something but I know it's not good for me.
Tristan: Yeah. It's not.
Hilda: I don't know what to do about it.
Then he gets his index finger and thumb and lifts her chin up to him
Tristan: I'm sorry about all of that. You going through something traumatic as that. You didn't deserve that to happen to you.
Hilda: Tell me about the day you found me.
Tristan: I thought no one would speak a word about it.
Hilda: Tell me?
Tristan: My knights and I found you in the forest. You looked like you were barely breathing. Everyone kept saying you were gone and it was too late but I insisted we take you with us. You were just a child. Like eleven or something.
Hilda: And you guys took me back to town to get better?
Tristan: (he nods) because I was a teenager at the time, there wasn't much I can do for you. But looking back I wish I could've done more. You were in pretty bad shape.
Hilda: Sometimes I wish you hadn't of saved me.
Tristan: Why do you say that?
Hilda: My life isn't going anywhere. I'm not worth saving. I'm just a serving girl. I'll always be that for the rest of my life. It's all I've ever known.
Tristan: Don't say that. You do have potential.
Hilda: I don't feel it though.
Tristan: Don't say such things like that. Your life is going somewhere. You're skilled in combat, you have a good heart, you're in the right place, and you mean well. I don't ever want you to feel you're not worth anything.
(He moves her shoulder length hair out of her face making her look at him)
You understand?
(She nods. Then she wraps her arms around his neck hugging him tightly he returns her hug with both arms)
Hilda: You're the reason I'm alive right now. And I appreciate everything you're doing.
Tristan: Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere.
(Then she lets him go and comes sitting back on the couch then looks at him)
Tristan: What?
Hilda: So...are you still mad?
Tristan: No not really.
Hilda: Maybe we can be friends again.
Tristan; .....
Hilda: I know we can't be friends again in the same way but I'm willing to try if you are.
Then Tristan laughs
Tristan: I can be stupid sometimes.
Hilda: Yeah you are. See? I knew you wouldn't stay mad at me for much longer!
They both chuckle in agreement
Cue night time. Tristan comes outside seeing Harper gather his thoughts
Tristan: Can't sleep?
(Harper shakes his head)
Harper: Sleep is useless.
Tristan: I hear ya.
(He sits outside on the steps next to him)
harper: I still cant believe Brad. He was a good man to me.
Tristan: Yeah I know. I cant believe it either. Psh. Money can do bad things to a person.
Harper: He had a choice not to turn his backs on us.
Tristan: That may be, but he was probably sweet talked by the templars gas lighting him into believing were the bad guys and they're the ones who will guide him.
Harper: He got me out of a bad situation recently. I never knew he would turn his back on us.
Tristan: Its not your fault Harper. None of us saw this coming. Sure we could've opened our eyes but even if we did, we would be living in denial.
Harper: Why ever not?
Tristan: We're only human. Sometimes things that happen on the inside may not be what it is on the outside. We just have to look for ourselves.
Harper: Maybe.
(Tristan gets up)
Tristan: Well I better get back inside. You should too.
(He pats Harper two times on the shoulder)
see you.
