Chapter 11

Aureole

My hand just went sideways, like it was instinct and I felt something do against the blade of my glass, and I turned sideways to see nothing but a wide eyed Altair. "How?" I could hear him mutter. I didn't know what he was talking about, but I looked around to see where the other one was. This was a trap... Three were left and they were surrounding us.

"They're tricks," he said. I didn't understand what he meant until he charged at one and pushed his rod into a girl's stomach. Ghosts. Or were they holograms? That means I didn't have to worry as much, luckily. They couldn't hurt us, and we could just touch them for them to disappear.
I charged at one, and I felt a pain erupting from my shoulder, I stopped to look as at the same time my glass slashed forward. I missed. And also, there was a huge gash on my arm, definitely caused by the disappearing people... So they could harm us.
"You okay?"
"Um... If you call this okay, sure." It actually didn't hurt that bad. I surprised at how bad at looked but the pain was only the amount of you scraping your knee.
I moved my shoulder and winced, and Altair looked at me, eyebrows raised, and a smirk fixed. "I'll take over, leave everything to me now."
That angered me. "Did you just assume that I can't fight?" I found this as a challenge. "Just cuz I haven't done this before doesn't mean I can't now," I said. But then I realized that I didn't know if I had done this before or not.
"No, I just can fight better," he said his smile growing.
"Who just saved you like two minutes ago?"
"Is that a challenge?"
And we raced off, to see who was better. There was one left, and to see which one could destroy her first.
I noticed that while we were arguing she had gathered something, another piece of broken glass. Oh... No go me.
Altair had the advantage here, with his rather more distant tool, so I let him go for her as a distraction. As he got I frog of her, and tried to swing his staff looking thing, and decided to go from behind.
What I didn't expect though was that she could duplicate her shard of glass, and that she would throw it at him. He dodged them just slightly and even hit one with his rod, causing it to shatter and give him small cuts. I stabbed through her just as she threw her last one. It almost hit him, but he moved away. "You win," that same smirk coming.
I winced again, trying to move my shoulder, and he said, "come."
I didn't know where we were going, but he seemed to know. We were going up those stairs we used to go to our rooms, but instead of how I took a right at the stairs, we took a left. We were going to his room...
"What are you..." My voice trailed off and we walked inside.
"Sit down," he said pulling out a chair. His room was much more different than mine, dark blue with golden dots representing stars, a huge sun on one side, and a moon on the other. There was a compass on each wall, pointing to the repetitive position, north, south, east, or west.
My heart slightly started to beat faster, and I asked, "what about the others?"
"You won't be any help to them if you don't get your shoulder fixed, you know." He returned, a medical kit in his hand, and sat next to me. "Your sweater."
"I can do this by myself," I said pointing at the bandage roll.
"How?" He laughed. True... I took my sweater off, biting my lip at the pain. I looked down to see I was wearing a Mickey Mouse t-shirt, a slight blush came on my face, and he raised his eyebrows slightly, not saying anything, though. It seemed as if my black shirt was completely ruined, and there were trails of blood still rolling down my arm. He gently tried to push my sleeves up, and I let out a shriek. Then he let go, and slightly frowned. "I might need to cut it off."
My arm? No, wait, he meant the sleeve. He moved towards the medical kit again, this time coming back with scissors. He looked at me for approval first, and I nodded, my shoulder still burning. He held my arm straight, and cut through the already ripped fabric. I let out another yelp as the scissors slightly came in contact with my cut. I didn't want to stare at my cut, since it was so disgusting, but it seemed that Altair had no problem with it.
"This is going to hurt," he muttered, and disappeared into a small room. He arrived, carrying a wet cloth, something I dreaded during injuries. He placed it around the would first, not coming near it. He just cleaned up all the blood that was farther away. Then he went back into the same room which I suppose was the restroom, and came back with a different wet cloth.
"So you cut won't get infected," he explained, and looked like what he knew what he was doing. With a finger he dabbed around the wound, getting closer to it with the cloth.
"I'm just going to put the cloth on the whole thing so it's not going to be slow and painful, okay?"
In added again, mentally preparing myself. I bit my lip again, as the cloth came in contact with my skin, as it started burning. He pay my clenched hand, and gave me a smile.
After that, he went to the kit again and held out the roll of cloth, and a spray. He first sprayed the cut, which burned a lot, and then took the roll. He wrapped my arm in it, instantly a red splotch showing, and cut it. He tapped the end, and than put another layer of the cloth on. I hurt, but not as much as before, surprisingly. I didn't understand why, though, but I was glad it was almost over. Finally, he put tape around it, and I exhaled deeply. I instantly started to poke at my bandage, and Altair slapped my hand away.
"You'll end up making it worse," he scolded, but in a gentle manner. "Now, please try not to move your shoulder so much."
"Y-" there was a piercing scream, and this time, it wasn't mine.
