Chapter 10
Aureole
"What do you..." Eira asked. I could tell. Something bad happened to her, I could see the darkness gathering in her eyes as tears fell, those weren't normal tears... even if I had no memories, there were those certain things I could tell. I didn't know how but I knew I but I felt it.
"They're trying to find their way inside, no time to explain, hurry, there's still a bunch of them outside," The dirty blonde girl said.
"We're on it," Eilian said, not giving it a second thought. Was this another trap? I couldn't tell. Only one way to find out, I missed out on the action of the last one anyways, and I nodded in agreement. We told the two girls to stay in the room and take a break as we walked towards the hall, Altair leading us. I'm surprised that even the black and purple haired girl came with us.
"Hey, Eira," I said, she looked at me but in an almost annoyed way "Watch those two. This could be a trap. First signal of betrayal, get away as far as you can, and set this." I handed her a small remote looking thing with one single red button. "Press it in the toon of the first 'jingle bells' but no farther than that."
"Where did you get it?"
"As a reward the teacher, Mrs. I Forgot gave us these for being able to see through the trap."
"And you're trusting me with this?"
"Yep."
I left without saying another word, and caught up to the rest of them. "Was it okay to leave her even with how much her leg hurt?"
"She should be fine," Altair said, his voice not sounding confident though. Just as suspected there were six corpses, moving, frail, pail, and ugly with bloody clothes from cuts, and more trails of blood from wounds, all the life looking like it was drained from them. Well technically it was...
They had weapons. We didn't. I looked around desperate to find something as the corpses moved closer. They weren't moving fast, but you could tell they were capable of it. This was a trap wasn't it. I shouldn't have agreed, fear fell, rushing through me but I swallowed it. If I was going to stay alive, I couldn't have time for fear. That only scared me more, but it somewhat calmed me. My eyes blurred, and I strained myself to find something. They were coming, and if they got inside, that's it.
"Slam the door," I yelled, bringing people back from stun. They did I as I asked, not seeming to question anything. "There has to be a kitchen somewhere around here. Hurry. Each of you, find a weapon, or something that you can use to defend yourself. I know, they're kids just like us, people who were brought here just like us, but trust me. They're dead. We can't change that, so go with all you have so we won't lose you, too."
That was the most inspiring thing I had ever said, and I was surprised at myself for taking leadership at such a time of crisis. Go me. I obviously know what I'm doing...
"Why should we listen to you?" the purplehead retorted. Gosh, she was getting on my nerves.
"I really do not care if you do or don't, honestly," I replied, and walked away. There was a pounding on the door and it got louder each time. It was starting to scare me, but I couldn't get any more scared than I was at the moment. I have reached the point of fear when I am so terrified I'm calm.
We all moved as fast as we could, trying to find a sharp or good object to use. We I found a shard of glass that was left from when I had accidentally dropped. See? It was on purpose; I am just that cool. Or at least I wish. I held on to it as everyone was still spread out around the room trying to find something.
Another knock enough to almost break the door down. I almost froze, but I couldn't now. There would only be more to be scared of, I told myself. The twins found a stick like rod thing under the couch, and we all looked around. Altair and I had a weapon, there was no one else.
"Go looked for something, We'll stay here," he said, looking at me for approval. I nodded. My stomach clenched in terror, how much I would've loved to go with them...
We both moved closer waiting for them, with a stick and a long shard of glass. Ideal for fighting, right? Two more knocks and the door would collapse. One more. "Get ready I whispered." And just like my calculations predicted the door came crashing down. There were only four. Where were the rest? I didn't have time to think. They were coming with remarkable speed, and just like I said, without thinking I went at them.
