Unexpected [Nagisa x Reader]
[Gift-Shot 1 of 8 I'm submitting for this years Christmas :D And this is written for the first Wattpad Friend I ever made :D Merry Christmas xoCANDYox :D I hope you enjoy this oneshot :D]
Christmas was one of those fun and festive time of years that you spend indoors, because it's too cold to do anything else.
Unless you lived in Australia or any other part of the world where it was Summer instead.
(F/n) had no idea how Summer Christmas' worked, or even if they were any fun.
The winter equivalent was perfectly fine for (F/n), however.
There was all the different Candy, made just for the season. And not to mention all the rest of the food, too.
Smoked hams, Christmas Cakes, and all the chocolate you could set your eyes on.
For (F/n), who had an insatiable sweet-tooth much like Koro-sensei's own, Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year.
She was often jealous of Koro-sensei, who had spent the last three days scanning brochures of different stores around the world, of all the different candy that were being produced just for the season.
(F/n) wanted Koro-sensei to share some of those foreign sweets with her too, but she felt like outright asking was a bit too much, really.
So, she instead went with the second option.
She had the suspicion that Koro-sensei was itching to do something flamboyant and out-there, so she decided to write a letter to Santa, leaving it on her desk as she left for the day yesterday.
In the letter, she asked Santa for any kind of sweet that you couldn't get in Japan.
She wouldn't be disappointed if nothing happened.
But if something came of it, she'd know in the morning.
Yes, today was December 24th.
Christmas Eve.
Right now (F/n) was sitting under the kotatsu, all nice and warm while watching the latest episode of her favorite anime of the season.
A whole range of different sweets sat on the kotatsu, untouched for the most part – She was in the process of devouring a jaw-breaker, so her sweets consumption was hindered at the moment.
Right now her Mom was working in the kitchen, doing the preparations for tomorrow mornings cooking. (F/n) had volunteered to help, but much like last year, she was told to go spend her time doing other things.
It was obviously because the Christmas Cake and many other sweets were being prepared, and there was no guarantee that any of it would make it to the table if (F/n) was allowed to help.
No problem, really.
The plan for Christmas itself was that (F/n) and her immediate family were having a quiet lunch in the warmth and comfort of their own home, before everyone went to spend the night hours of Christmas with whoever they wanted to at the time.
They did this every year – It just meant that they got to do their family thing during the day, and for (F/n) and her siblings, they could go spend the evening with close friends later on. Make the best for both worlds, as it were.
Last year, (F/n) spent Christmas night hanging out with her friends from the Main Campus, but since she had dropped down to Class E, she didn't talk with anyone from the Main Campus anymore.
The sudden cut-off had hurt at the time, but on her first day in Class E, she'd made a whole new group of friends, far kinder and more sincere than her old friends.
She'd also met her crush that day, too.
Shiota Nagisa, who preferred to be called Nagisa in general.
The light-built boy with sky-blue features had been the first person to greet her in Class E, and he was also the one that looked out for her the most.
It was just a matter of time before she'd develop feelings for him, but there were always times where it felt like on his side of things, they were just friends.
Nothing more, nothing less.
But if that was the way things were meant to be, (F/n) had no interest in jeopardizing it.
She'd rather keep the friendship instead of risking it for something that might not even be possible to begin with.
'(F/n)! Can you get the door?' (F/n)s Mom called out from the kitchen, catching her attention immediately.
Someone was at the door?
'Okay!' (F/n) called back, her voice slightly muffled by the jawbreaker candy she was still in the middle of devouring.
She untangled her feet from beneath the kotatsu, lifting herself to her feet as she picked up on the faint sounds of knocking at the front door.
So somebody really was here, and her Mom was probably busy keeping track of a multitude of things going on in the kitchen.
With a skip, hop and a jump, (F/n) stopped at the front door, and opened it.
On the other side stood the one person she did not expect to see, so seeing him there not only startled her, but had her feeling like she was in the middle of a dream. She was too surprised by the sight to have even noticed next-doors ten-year-olds rolling up a Penguin wearing a Christmas Hat in a giant snowball.
Shiota Nagisa stood on the front steps, dressed in cargo pants, a blue sweater and a long white scarf. A small smile was present across his face, with the smallest of a wry edge.
'Nagisa-kun!' (F/n) spoke up in surprise, taking note of the backpack he had slung over his right shoulder. 'H-hi!'
'Good afternoon, (F/n)-chan.' Nagisa greeted the surprised girl, his smile growing slightly. 'I umm ... I know it's really late, and it's Christmas Eve...'
She nodded to urge him to continue.
'But I was wondering ... if I can hang out with you?'
(F/n) was silent at first, blinking in surprise at his words.
'You mean downtown?' She asked curiously.
'N-no, not downtown... I mean here ...' He clarified, his smile fading just a little.
It was here that (F/n) realized that things must be a little uncomfortable for him at home right now.
After all, Nagisa had told her at least a little about his relationship with his Mom...
(F/n) always wondered how he could be so nice, when people picked on him all the time. It made her want to give them all a stern talking to, maybe shove a couple bags of candy down their throats to see if it would sweeten their bitter personalities a bit better.
'Oh, Nagisa-kun! Hello!' (F/n)s Mom spoke up from the door of the kitchen all of a sudden, catching the attention of the two teens at the door.
(F/n) looked over in surprise, to find that the woman was smiling brightly, almost mischievously.
'Good afternoon, (L/n)-san.' Nagisa greeted the woman.
'Mom, can Nagisa-kun hang out, today?'
(F/n)s Mom blinked momentarily, before she smirked slightly and began to head back into the kitchen.
'Of course he can. He can keep you out of the kitchen for me!' She called back over her shoulder.
In response, (F/n) pouted at those words, though the chuckle that escaped Nagisa drew her attention back to her guest.
'Your Mom's really nice, (F/n)-chan.' Nagisa remarked.
She can be your Second Mom, you know?
That was what (F/n) was about to say, but she stopped herself quickly with the frantic shake of her head.
No no! There's no need to make things awkward, now.
'Come on, Nagisa-kun! I have snacks and the Laptop in the lounge-room!' (F/n) announced with a child-like grin, grabbing the bluenette by the wrist and pulling him inside, much like always when he'd turned up and stood awkwardly on the front steps like he was now.
Nagisa laughed slightly at (F/n)s amiable personality.
'I don't think candy should be consumed like snacks, (F/n).'
'Lies and slander!' She announced as she shut the door with a loud thud, leading the way to the well-supplied kotatsu. 'You consume it, it provides sugar and glucose! It's snacks! It's food!'
'Sometimes I worry about you, (F/n)-chan.' Nagisa spoke under his breath, the smile still in place.
(F/n) pretended to miss that string of words, though she felt the blush begin to appear all the same.
'And Sliiiiiiiide!' (F/n) called out as she threw herself into a foot-slide towards the kotatsu, a grin spread across her face as she snuggled in.
'... (F/n)-chan, that can't be considered snacks anymore...' Nagisa spoke up, standing in the doorway as he stared at the mountain of candy sitting on the kotatsu – Some had even overflowed onto the laptop sitting in the middle of the kotatsu.
'Huh?'
'... You're going to make yourself very sick if you eat that much.' He deadpanned, fixing her with a matching look.
'But it's –'
'And it being Christmas doesn't change anything.' Nagisa cut her off, a sigh in his tone of voice. 'You're always eating so much candy, you can't really use Christmas as an excuse.'
(F/n) tilted her head to the side slightly in response.
'If that's how you feel about it, why don't you help me eat it?' She offered.
At the rather uncertain look that flashed across Nagisas face, (F/n) felt rather proud of her success in stumping him.
At least until another voice spoke up in response to her offer.
'Oh? Well wonders will never cease.' (F/n)'s older brother spoke up, appearing all of a sudden to reach down and lift the bag of her most favorite candy from the table.
'NOOOO!' (F/n) exclaimed in shock, retrieving the bag of candy from the pile before (B/n) could grab it. 'I said Nagisa-kun could! Not you!'
(F/n)s brother smirked slightly as he straightened up.
'You didn't specify, and I want that bag you've got.'
'No way!'
'Come on, (F/n), don't be stingy.'
'I said no!'
'(F/n)-chan?' Nagisa spoke up all of a sudden, catching the girl/s attention.
She turned her head to look at her friend as he sat down at the kotatsu as well, when all of a sudden the bag of candy was tugged right out of her grip.
'Hey what the--?!' She yelped out, whirling around just in time to see her brother sprint out of the room, her bag of candy in one hand. 'Nooooooo! My candy!'
All excitement gone and a sense of heartbreak falling upon her, (F/n) stared miserably after her brothers retreating form, tears beginning to well up in the corners of her eyes.
Her favorite candy ... all gone ...
(F/n) now knew for certain that there was no God.
'Cheer up, (F/n)-chan.' Nagisa spoke up after a few seconds, however (F/n) couldn't muster up the energy to smile.
She was looking forward to devouring that candy, too.
'Umm, (F/n)-chan? Here...'
(F/n) turned her head glumly towards Nagisa, to find that the bluenette was holding a bag of her favorite candy out to her, though the wrapping told her immediately that this wasn't the same one.
Nagisa had gotten her candy?
'Oh my god! I love you!' (F/n) exclaimed, her depressed mood long-since forgotten as she flung herself over the corner of the kotatsu to tackle Nagisa into a hug. Other not-so-important candy went flying, scattering across the floor in the wake of (F/n)'s sudden tackling hug, some even landing over the two teens.
'E-eh!?' Nagisa had managed to get out, staring down at the giggling girl that was currently hugging him.
'Thank you soooo much, Nagisa-kun! You're totally awesome!' (F/n) announced as she finally untangled herself, looking down at the bag of candy that Nagisa still held safely in one hand.
She failed to notice the rather vivid blush that covered the boys face.
'Oh right! I have the whole new season of (favorite anime) to watch!' An oblivious (F/n) announced with a grin, looking up at Nagisa again. 'Wanna watch it with me?'
'S-sure...' Nagisa agreed.
'Great! Then I'll sit here on this side with you so we can both see the screen!'
'O-okay, (F/n)-chan...'
It was here that (F/n) finally noticed the distinct colouration across Nagisa's face.
'Umm, is something wrong?'
'No! Nothing at all!' Nagisa responded quickly, setting the bag of candy in (F/n)s hands as he shuffled over so she could sit next to him.
(F/n) watched silently, before she shrugged it off and settled into her new spot at the kotatsu, pulling the Laptop closer so that they both could see it.
Before long however, (F/n) realized just how awkward the situation had gotten.
Sitting side by side with Nagisa like this, their shoulders nearly against each other as they watched the anime playing on the laptop...
And furthermore, the blush across Nagisa's face hadn't once disappeared.
She found herself before long trying to figure out what could be ailing her best friend, to the point where he looked rather uncomfortable to be sitting there with her.
Was it the anime choice?
Or was it the fact that they were sitting so close together?
It couldn't be the anime – Nagisa was usually happy to watch anything she was interested in.
And she'd sat next to him like this before too ...
She was so lost in thought that she'd even stopped eating the candy Nagisa had brought her.
What was it? Not knowing was going to drive her insane.
Nagisa was just too nice to tell her if she was making him uncomfortable, so she had to figure it out herself, so she could remedy the situation.
The last thing she wanted to do was alienate her best friend because she was being thoughtless.
Minutes passed, and (F/n) was drawing a blank.
Nothing came to her at all, and she was scouring every inch of her brain to try and figure this out.
So she tried recalling when he'd started looking uncomfortable.
Another few minutes passed as she carefully retraced backwards through her collective memory of the past half hour, right up to when she'd tackled him in a hug.
And then she realized a fatal flaw of hers that made the most sense.
In her excitement of the candy he'd brought for her, she said she loved him.
She realized that she'd confessed to him, and she didn't even know it at the time!
Immediately, her face turned bright red and her form turned rigid, and a cold sweat began to overcome her.
Oh no, she did it. She did the one thing she was trying so hard not to do.
That had to be why Nagisa was uncomfortable sitting with her right now – Especially if he didn't actually have any feelings for her.
What could she do to fix this? Was there anything at all that she could do?
(F/n) started to panic, though she tried her best to stop it from showing across her face.
She wasn't smooth with these kind of things – In fact, she was probably the most clumbsy girls when it came to these things. Innocent, to the point were just the word smut could reduce her to a nervous wreck with her hands over her ears if used around her.
However she didn't have too much of an opportunity to wrack her panic-stricken brain for an answer to this question.
She felt something warm close around her hand between herself and Nagisa, realizing a couple seconds later that he'd just grabbed her hand.
It officially became impossible for (F/n) to watch what was playing on the laptop, and the candy all around them was the furtherest thing from her mind.
Nothing else happened though – They sat like that for minutes that felt more like hours, lost in an awkward silence that was almost suffocating.
If Nagisa was feeling as uncomfortable as she was, then he had a brilliant poker-face.
His expression hadn't once changed, though the blush had darkened just a little.
'...Did you mean it?' Nagisa eventually spoke, reading the tension in her well enough to know what was on her mind.
(F/n) dared a glance at him for a second, before she lowered her gaze to their linked hands.
Well, the cat was already out of the bag, and avoiding the question was just going to make things even worse, so she decided to just bite the bullet and admit it to him.
He wasn't the sort to throw a persons feelings in their face, after all.
Ever so slightly, she nodded, her blush darkening to an even worse shade of red.
In response, the grip around her hand tightened.
It was a few seconds later when Nagisa turned his head towards her.
However instead of rejecting her feelings, he did the one thing she didn't expect.
He leaned towards her, kissing the side of her face for just a second.
'I ... feel the same way.' He whispered as he pulled away, turning his head back to the laptop with a much brighter blush across his face.
(F/n) remained frozen, her eyes wide with shock as she stared blindly at the laptop in front of them.
And then it all clicked into place, and a startled squeak escaped her as she flinched away from Nagisa.
'Wait – You what?!' She exclaimed, earning an amused smile from Nagisa as he looked at her.
He didn't say anything at first though, instead tossing her the leftover candy that he'd brought for her.
'(F/n)-chan, you've barely touched the candy.' He remarked, lifting one of the butterscotch from the table and popping the unwrapped candy into his mouth.
After a moment, (F/n) let out a giggle as she settled back into her spot next to Nagisa.
She'd never say it to his face, but she was thankful her brother had stolen the bag of candy, now.
He didn't need an incentive to steal more from her in the future.
